Reviews for Domaine de Joinville

Review 1:room was cold - although I altered the heating nothing happened. I was told by the staff that the heating is on a single boiler and that the room controls did nothing. lacking in ambience. dinner menu was expensive compared to even La Matelot in Boulogne. Pool was closed by the time we arrived and not open very early so not able to have a swim

Review 2:location was lovely

Review 3:Unfriendly staff, not willing ( or able or knowledgable ) to help or do anything when asked somethings simple like getting eggs sunny side up for breakfast or a hotter Irish coffee ( the first evening our Irish coffees were cold and the beers were hot , so was the one from the guy on the table next to us btw , who told us he gave up even asking for anything and the next day advised us some nicer places he'd check out in the area ) Breakfast costs 17€ and isn't worth it at all !!! ( we are in France and they didn't even get the croissants right ; they weren't baked enough and again the staff doesn't give you a warm welcome nor even bother to say anything to you, not even a 'good morning' .. Instead they treat the guest in a very pretentious manner.) There's a house cat climbing on your breakfast table to share your plate. The place is old and feels like it too, rooms are not sound proof at all, and although on picture they present nicely, it feels uncomfortable to move around much or even fill yourself a lovely bath and play some music while relaxing in it because you'd fear of disturbing the neighbouring guests )

Review 4:The location is nice

Review 5:At first I was told they were fully booked for dinner and could not fit me in. This was disappointing as I was hot and tired after worry about being able to get to France because of ferry strikes so I really did not want the hassle of going elsewhere. Eventually they were persuaded to give me a table and dinner was very good. It did not seem over busy!

Review 6:Very nice location. Good clean room and good dinner.

Review 7:We were looking forward to using the pool - and found it closed on Mondays. Bathroom grubby and very dated - no proper shower Food terrible, We had an hour and a hlaf wait at 9.30 pm - when it came vegetables were cold. when reheated meat was then overcooked - and meat was chewy (COTE de Boef) and served with mushed vegetables in an uncooked curry sauce. Inedible. Stater was bee trot with a goats cheese sauce made from what seemed to be cream from a can. Had to send main course back - meant really had no dinner and was now 11.15 at night. Offerd us cheese - which I assumed would be complimentary given we had waited for nearly two hours for a meal we could not eat. we were offered a plate each. Luckily I only took one as they then charged us 12 Euros for the plate of cheeses. Dreadful

Review 8:Pretty house and grounds

Review 9:lack of professionalism in all the staff staff not at the level of a "relais & Chateaux". need some improvement in some of the rooms.

Review 10:nice property. restaurant is nice and the quality of the food and the menu are perfect.

Review 11:We paid £20 extra per night for a third bed which turned out to be a few cushions pushed together. This was not a bed and was not acceptable for our daughter to sleep on. I would not re-book with this arrangement again - very disappointing.

Review 12:Location, very pleasant grounds and views, good breakfast, stylish decor of common areas.

Review 13:Our jacuzzi bath didn't work at all. Not a problem but felt we should have been told at checkin. Menus all in French . One with English transalation would have been helpful.

Review 14:Superb nights sleep. Loved the comfort and decor. Room was large and opulent . Loved the hotel cat .

Review 15:Family room unpractical with separate toilet in second room but with no wash basin Kids slide and swings all broken and unusable Quite pricey for quality of room No air con or fan

Review 16:Location Staff friendliness Furnishings in communal areas

Review 17:Send the waitress home (not customer oriented: no no no, instead of I'll see what I can do). Absolutely not worth the money, but unfortunately not many other hotel options in the area.

Review 18:The surroundings and the birds.

Review 19:Arrived at midnight in the pouring rain due to major problems at the Eurotunnel. Pleased to note that the keys had been left in a prominent position with directions to the room. Breakfast was good. Can't say much more as was in the hotel for less than 8 hours.

Review 20:Service at dinner was a little slow - they were very busy.

Review 21:The position and buildings

Review 22:Quitness

Review 23:Short stay not enough Turkmen to fully assess

Review 24:Location, restaurant, peacefulness,

Review 25:Service - no restaurant service, bar shut prematurely

Review 26:Quietness, space, historical

Review 27:lack of professionalism from the staff even from the management

Review 28:dinner and breakfast were delicious nice property

Review 29:Having to pay for use of the spa pool

Review 30:Staff helped with IT. Very pleasant.

Review 31:When I arrived late after a long drive from Nottingham I was told the restaurant was fully booked so no dinner was available. When I asked about the possibility of room service I was told that this was not available either. I was told where some other restaurants were in a neighbouring town. I ought to have been made aware of this prior to booking so that I could have arranged to stay elsewhere.

Review 32:Nice building very historic externally and internally very well presented.

Review 33:Evening meal in restaurant very good but quite pricey. Not many other choices locally at this time of year and specially not on a Monday night.

Review 34:Beautiful surroundings. Restful and quiet. Room and bed very comfortable. Great combination of old and modern. Spotless. Lots of choices for breakfast.

Review 35:The Spa (which is not fully a part of the domain) was quiet disappointing. First of all, the swimming pool wasn't very clean. The edges of the pool were unfinished (the top layers of the floor were visible), also the water hose was still inside the pool. The hamam was working the way it should. Then there was the sauna, which didn't function due to a short circuit. A few employees tried to get the electricity back on, but the fuse jumped of instantly. Then there was the massage shower which didn't work at all. The only issue we had in the hotel was that the heating didn't work at one point (this was in the evening), but the next morning this issue was fixed.

Review 36:The staying at the hotel was really satisfying. The employees were very friendly, the environment is beautiful, the hotel has something magical and the coast is only 5 minutes away by car. The dinner and breakfast were delicious.

Review 37:nothing to dislike. In our view EU was a convenient stop on the return leg to Calais

Review 38:No nonsense attitude was really refreshing when we checked in. The room although in the annexe was fantastic. We didnt eat in the hotel although the menus looked good.

Review 39:black bathroom suite

Review 40:Spacious bedroom Attractive reception lounge

Review 41:No tea or coffee facilities in room. The Wi Fi was down

Review 42:Superb building and surroundings Attentive staff in Reception and Restaurant

Review 43:One felt one had to whisper in dining area, library type atmosphere.

Review 44:Room and comfort of bed. Breakfast. Pool.

Review 45:No pool except in the Spa, but this was small.

Review 46:The building and location.
