Reviews for Parador de Zafra
Review 1:The room was very hot and it didn't have an outside window for ventilation. The room was very dark and we needed the lights on all the time.
Review 2:The central area of the hotel
Review 3:Most of the staff were very nice. At dinner the staff were very impatient with us as we could not speak Spanish. Lots of wonderful restaurants nearby.
Review 4:We have a large car and parking was excellent. The concierge was most helpful he came outside and got us a space right outside the front entrance. This Parador is amazing and our bedroom was fabulous with a huge balcony. Very convenient to shops restaurants and the beautiful whitewashed houses.Excellent value for money.
Review 5:There was a very bad sewerage smell in the corridors as soon as leaving the reception and courtyard areas. The smell was even worse in the room and seemed to come from the bathroom drains despite our efforts to block it. We had to leave the bathroom door shut and the bathroom window open in an attempt to reduce its affect, which began to make us feel nauseous. The was no mention of this by the staff and thankfully we had only booked 1 night there. We really should have been warned of the problem or these rooms should not be in use.
Review 6:Breakfast, location, courtyard
Review 7:The hotel provided a high standard of cleanliness and comfort. The restaurant was excellent and we had our best meal in Spain there. The swimming pool was very good and well maintained.
Review 8:This beautiful marble palace/castle is a very special place. We loved it! We had a large 1st story room with two huge balconies (room 305) where we sat drinking a bottle of local white wine (from the bar) watching the sun go down. Staff helpful and friendly. Great dinner and lovely breakfast...we did not want to leave....
Review 9:As in most paradores, the atmosphere is more chain than boutique and rooms are a little tired.
Review 10:A wonderful patio in which to eat dinner, at a price but with attentive service. If the room is a bargain then the value for money is good.
Review 11:All very tired. Dining used to be a highlight here, now very average food, poor wine list and worn out furniture means we would not rush back.
Review 12:Lovely old building, but in need of update and refurb. Very good breakfast
Review 13:Parking is extra but reasonable indoor restaurant lacked ambience
Review 14:The parador had a great atmosphere very old yet very modern with air condition and all mod cons you would need
Review 15:We had no hot water the evening we arrived nor the following morning, and no wifi in the room. When we complained we were told it was our fault as we had booked a superior room (304) and hot water should but doesn't always reach there, and wifi is poor. However, 'there should be hot water now', at 11.45 am as we were checking out!
Review 16:Fantastic building in a good location for an overnight stay
Review 17:Rooms a bit dated but good size and spotlessly clean. Large bathroom with separate shower room
Review 18:Location, right in the centre of the town. Short walk to the old town streets. Beautiful medieval building with impressive inner galleried courtyard.
Review 19:didn't know where to get pool towels but when i asked at reception they handed me some. the tissues in the room weren't the quality you would expect.
Review 20:LOTS! the staff were very friendly. room spacious and comfortable as well as toiletries. room and hotel everywhere was clean. pool fantastic and restaurant served great food. convenient location to shops etc
Review 21:Found over the past few years that Paradors are cutting back on staff so service isn't as good as it was.Luxury
Review 22:Reception staff very helpful. Room comfortable. Attractive interior of parador.
Review 23:The room was freezing cold. The staff was rude. The key would not open the door and when we asked for help, they were rude. There was a trick to the lock that was not explained. There is no sound proofing. You can hear everything and at 7am there was construction right out our window with a jack hammer. It was impossible to talk much less sleep.
Review 24:Courtyard
Review 25:Why oh why did they have to close the pool for cleaning all Saturday afternoon. Couldn't it have been done at night ( it was an automatic cleaner)
Review 26:Great location and lovely palace with pool and garden to relax, also near to shops and bars for convenience
Review 27:We were disappointed that on May 20th the pool was not available. We purposely came to this parador & town and increased the number of nights to two to have some time around the pool at 25c weather. I found the bed to be too firm but that could be said about a lot of European hotels. The restaurant & bar staff were very pleasant but we have found the staff in the hospitality industry in Spain to speak very little English except for the front desk and this was true for Parador Zafra. It can be quite trying at times with our limited Spanish.
Review 28:The courtyard was stunning, very palacial and with comfortable seating. Our room was very large and nicely decorated. The front desk was pleasant and offered the room I requested. The rate of 80€ for the room was exceptional value and the 15 € for brakfast & 25€/person fixed 3 course menu was reasonable. Our meals were very good. The town of Zafra was very pleasant and pretty with some nice shops.
Review 29:Food not quite up to standard for the price. Expected freshly-squeezed orange juice for breakfast but got the usual watery stuff. No tea/coffee in the room
Review 30:Staff are brilliant, very helpful and obliging. Room was comfortable and clean. The building - a 15th century palace - is quite peaceful and atmospheric. Located in quiet square, next to town centre bars and shops.
Review 31:My husband would have like tea/coffee facilities in the room.
Review 32:The Parador is in the centre of the town. A beautiful place to stay in. The staff was nice and discreet. Safe parking at the front of the hotel for 4.05€ per day. Delicious buffet breakfast.
Review 33:Only complaint and which the staff were going to look into was lack of hot water on both days when taking a bath. They were very apologetic.
Review 34:Friendly staff. Quiet at night. Very clean. Food in restaurant good. Breakfasts have been better in other Paradores we have stayed in, but good. Near tourist information, shops and concert venue.
Review 35:Superb location in an ancient palace. The parador is located right in the city center. Zafra is a very nice town with beautiful squares. The outside pool is great. The staff was helpful with parking and provided a quiet room on request.
Review 36:Staff were ok but no more than that. Didnt eat there not tempted by Menu.
Review 37:the ambience of Zafra as a whole. A little jewel, Parador a significant contributor.
Review 38:Nothing
Review 39:It had a great location to the Old Town..
Review 40:Unfortunately the wifi coverage and band width is not great.
Review 41:Impressive building, very personable staff, good food and perfect location.
Review 42:Not very easy to find without satnav.
Review 43:A classic parador in a lovely old town.
Review 44:Friendly staff peaceful secure location
Review 45:Poor water pressure in bathroom
Review 46:Bedroom
Review 47:parking fascilities
Review 48:Unable to connect to wi fi which was important for connecting to business emails
Review 49:Beautiful location and surroundings
Review 50:Almost everything
Review 51:location
Review 52:Great location, swimming pool and room very nice, cheap parking right outside.
Review 53:Nil
Review 54:Everything
Review 55:just what we have thought a Parador would be like in the middle of an old town - loved it
Review 56:Great location in this historical village. Lovely atmosphere.
Review 57:The whole experience of staying in Zafra and experiencing a hidden Spain
Review 58:friendly staff and building
Review 59:We love the courtyard setting for the restaurant.
Review 60:lack of real luxury
Review 61:fantastic hotel and place
Review 62:Not bad, but wifi was not good in the room, and only good in one particular point in an area out of the way.
Review 63:Location and our room.
Review 64:Construction work on the car park area, however only a mild inconvenience
Review 65:The location and style of the Parador in this wonderful little town
Review 66:the beautiful building and location and parking
Review 67:After hiking all day we came to his beautiful oasis.: beautiful, comfortable and a big welcome.
Review 68:No problems
Review 69:Good size room, good restaurant
Review 70:Unable to control the room temperature - not sure why!
Review 71:The main courtyard, the relaxed feeling and the peace
Review 72:Nothing.
Review 73:Everything! An amazing building. Everything immaculate. Good dinner and breakfast.
Review 74:Surroundings and Style
Review 75:We loved everything
Review 76:The look and feel of the place
Review 77:No secure parking at this Parador.
Review 78:Although located within a town centre this old castle has a wonderful atmosphere and well worth our 2nd visit.
Review 79:expensive breakfast
Review 80:Beautiful room, central location, wonderful building, good swimming pool
Review 81:Very expensive for mediocre experience - evening meal choice particularly poor. Pool not open .reception staff not even able to understand basic English. Room furnishings poor quality for what was meant to be a superior room. 200 euros was too high a price for a 3 star experience.
Review 82:Venue history and view within the courtyard
Review 83:The restaurant was closed when we were there but the cafe was okay.
Review 84:We had a suite so it was a big room and pretty special. The balcony is enormous with a great outlook. The central courtyard is attractive although noise tends to carry. We had no problem from noise in the street. Parking was easy and there was a traffic officer present. The storks on the rooftops.
Review 85:The information in the room was misleading. Food at the cafeteria was not available at the times stated which was disappointing. The curtain was broken on the day we arrived (it was fixed on the 2nd day) and there were hairs in the bath. I have stayed in paradors before and felt that in this case, corners were cut (for real reasons of economy I suspect). Maybe the cuts are not being well managed. The view from our room was poor.
Review 86:The building is wonderful and the location perfect.
Review 87:Absolutely delightful. Luxurious, excellently maintained parador with superb staff. Easy parking. Excellent restaurant, even if the menu is a bit sparse. The location, at the edge of the old town, makes it easy to explore the plazas and lanes. Rooms are spacious and everything is in pristine order. A great value.
Review 88:Not many staff around mid afternoon if you want a drink/snack from the bar.
Review 89:Fantastic building, lovely room full of traditional spanish character. Beautiful inner courtyard area to eat/drink in the bar. Excellent evening meal sat in the courtyard listening to spanish guitar under the stars!!
Review 90:parking car in front of parador with 40 degrees heat only sandwiches available before main restaurant opening hours
Review 91:good sized bedrooms with air conditioning historic building
Review 92:Occasional restaurant in a 4 star hotel...ridiculous. Room overcrowded with furniture and dark. Atmosphere stuffy
Review 93:Very pretty building and nice courtyard
Review 94:The bar tender seemed to have a bad day when I arrived and was grumpy, putting a damper on the friendly atmosphere. The breakfast room a bit small, but there was an option to eat outdoors.
Review 95:Parador atmosphere right in the centre of town. Tour of the castle by charming guide. Quiet and comfortable. Friendly reception.
Review 96:It was surprising the tour guide spoke no English. The wi-fi was irritatingly cumbersome to use with my iPhone.
Review 97:Great historical building, with quite helpful & professional staff. There was also a free guided tour of the old city. Good house wine in the restaurant.
Review 98:Our room had a broken glass in the middle of the bathroom floor from theprevious guests which was not cleaned until we pointed it out.The wifi did not reach our room. The restaurant was not as good as other parador hotels.
Review 99:Impressive castle.
Review 100:The bedrooms though clean and very large are somewhat tired and require a makeover. The beds need replacing with improved mattresses.
Review 101:The location is wonderful in a peaceful, friendly town. The actual Parador is full of history and has an enchanting palace patio. The food was excellent. Used this hotel to explore other towns/countryside for scenic & historical excursions well worth seeing such as Olivenza and Jerez de los Caballeros.
Review 102:Would really like the Paradores to include more English TV channels. Subtitle rather than dub.
Review 103:Beautiful building and the location very close to the town and other amentities
Review 104:The swimming pool was quite cold considering the high day time temperatures but nonetheless refreshing and well supervised.
Review 105:Spectacular Castle building and appropriate furnishings. Delightful bedroom and outlook. Atmospheric courtyard and pleasant Bar and Restaurant providing a charming ambience in which to dine. Lovely outdoor pool and private sunbathing area. Part of the old town centre of Zafra precisely what one would hope for from a Parador yet providing easy access to a quite chic and modern shopping venue.
Review 106:Pool was good for swimming, but not so great for sitting by as there was limited space at times.
Review 107:Hotel building was excellent with a lovely open patio inside. Food was excellent.
Review 108:I already had better dinner in other Paradors of Spain. Especially the"Solomillo" didn't close up to the quality - price - range. The qualityof meat was too poor and they served it "medium" instead of "very bleu- english "
Review 109:The old fashioned style, romantic flair
Review 110:Directions to parador not well signposted in the town.
Review 111:Good place to stay when travelling north. Comfortable rooms. Can getsnacks, sandwiches etc all day which is not possible in the parador ofsalamanca for example
Review 112:Everything about this place was excellent. Our room was large and had a small balcony and nice view of the City. We liked hanging out at the pool right beside the castle's walls. My only regret is that I booked this place for only one night.
Review 113:The sign to the hotel was not very clear for drivers. We had to park the car and search the entrance on foot. We stayed in numerous paradors during our vacation. All others had clear signs with big "P" logo shown along the way, except this one.
Review 114:It was wonderful that we could access to the roof of the castle in the morning. Suggest to dine inside the Parador: the food and the service were all good.
Review 115:Mid May and the temperature over 30, but the swimming pool was stillclosed for the winter! Considering the standard of the hotel, we thoughtthis was inconsiderate and significantly reduced the value of staying atthe Parador. The following night we stayed in a (inland) hotel where thepool had been open since 1 April and it was very busy, whichdemonstrates the demand for the facility.
Review 116:Location is excellent, within walking distance of the old town, two mainsquares, bars and restaurants etc. The building itself is impressive, with a relaxing courtyard and gardens. Staff efficient and helpful, although rather reserved as often seems the case at paradores.
Review 117:It is quite a distant from the main highway and the city of Zafra seemsto be mostly commercial including the area around the Parador. Most of the interesting areas in castle were off limits to visit. We requested a tour but apparently these areas are only available on weekends. Most of the rooms have small windows and limited views. Our room looked out on a city street and small city plaza. Clearly not representative of the quality and value we found in the other Paradors we stayed at.
Review 118:The opportunity to stay in a castle was our primary interest in Zafra.
Review 119:Room 217 big room and bathroom with wheelchair facilities but small high windows overlooking service yard.
Review 120:The converted castle building
Review 121:Thought meal was very average - especially main course - and really diminished experience
Review 122:Location, staff, rooms, facilities all fine
Review 123:Poor signposting. It was sort of obvious, but only when you had worked it out.
Review 124:Beautiful building, especially the courtyard restaurant.
Review 125:Wi-fi substandard. It kept dropping out, requiring re-logon.
Review 126:Plenty of outside areas for relaxation.
Review 127:poor wifi in room, but then again we were on holidays :) !! so better no wifi - lol
Review 128:superb place to visit
Review 129:Great courtyard dining area.
