Reviews for Hôtel Cavalière Surplage

Review 1:Nothing bad. New ownership is gradually upgrading the rooms. Nicely improved since 3 years ago.

Review 2:Excellent beach front location, very close to the water. Private parking lot just a few feet to the side. Handy "Spar" grocery within 5 minutes walk. Nice views from balconies.

Review 3:There was a sour smell in the room. It was so unpleasant we had to buy an aid freshener. As many other guests have commented the hotel was somewhat tired and needs a refund. It has great potential but first they need to do something about that sour smell in the rooms.

Review 4:The location on the beach was great. The room was large and had a nice terrace overlooking the sea. The Irish receptionist was really pleasant and helpful.

Review 5:Location is not the best if you're planning on visiting other places... Decor is a little worn and in need of updating..

Review 6:Beach location is great, you literally could not get closer...the views from the balcony are great... Staff very friendly and helpful..

Review 7:The smell!! Its awfull and its everyvwhere - in your room, at the lobby. After we l couldn't get rid of the smell. We have a not bad room on the first floor, but in order to get to this room you need to go throue kitchen. It's so unprofeccionaly.

Review 8:The beach in front of the room is very nice, but location.... It's a small village. You can't find there even the dissent restaurant. The stuff is very nice! Super nce cary people.

Review 9:We were on the top floor and the lift stopped at the floor below. Curtains and blinds in the room were very tatty so didn't keep out the light.

Review 10:Private beach (but you need to book a sun lounger in advance, and they're quite pricy)

Review 11:Found the bedroom a bit dated and balcony chairs very uncomfortable There was an unpleasant smell in the are with the indoor pool.

Review 12:The location was terrific so close to the lovely Beach

Review 13:It is hard to find out entrance way by car. Navigation is guided. But narrow way and one direction prevent to go in for the first time.

Review 14:In front of beautiful beach.kind and friendly service.Nice restaurant. Not so much formal style is comfort for family stay.

Review 15:Very Bad wireless connection. Weak signal on varies places. Didn't work with my laptop windows 8.1 .Another problem was that they change my booking sea view room without my knowledge, Without trying to solve payment problem that i had with my credit card before making some changes and of course Didn't advice me about this move before.

Review 16:Tird floor room with the sea view i can say was amazing. Breakfast very good, staff excellent.

Review 17:On arrival despite booking ahead by 6 months the rooms booked weren't ready and the first night our party had to share and be in a room type not booked.

Review 18:Location

Review 19:The first night in restaurant dog poo under the next table to us, so we didn't eat there again. Far to many dogs in hotel for our liking won't be going back.

Review 20:The location was brilliant

Review 21:No bad experience. Wifi was no great, extremely slow and you had to ask for a code for each device but we were not there to be stuck to our tablets anyway.

Review 22:We likes the big rooms with large balconies and the amazing sea view. The breakfast was very good and copious. Great to have a heated indoor pool.

Review 23:Tired looking interior that has seen better days. Could be a fabulous hotel with some time, attention and money spent on it and still cost a reasonable price. Very basic room facilities, no tea and coffee in the room. No complimentary shampoo, conditioner or bathing equipment. I booked this on a deal but would have been extremely disappointed if I paid full price.

Review 24:The comfort of the bed, pillows and the location, step out of your room straight onto the beach. Easy to find, right on the edge of town but within easy strolling distance to restaurants and bars.

Review 25:It is quite old, needing renovation.

Review 26:Excellent location. A very impressive hotel reminding splendors of the past. Very nice balcony. Very spacious room. Right infront of the beach. Parking ...with a wonderful view. Excellent price.

Review 27:Communal areas a little 'dated', some facilities not available (late in season?) and the mosquitos!!

Review 28:Location, room size, large balcony, very good breakfast and varied evening meal choice

Review 29:The hotel was right on the beach. The views from our room were spectacular and the balcony was a good size. The breakfast was good with a variety of food.

Review 30:My third stay at this hotel, but it has changed hands since my last stay. The new owners should invest more in the décor. For example, my bath had no plug and the enamel was coming off. No assistance whatsoever on arrival with luggage, not even a trolley to put it on. All you need after driving 800 miles.

Review 31:Location, friendly staff

Review 32:The decor is a bit tired and could do with updating, however for the price, it was really fine. An upgrade to the interior could lead to an uplift in price.. So leave it be!

Review 33:The location is perfect. All rooms face the sea. The staff were super friendly but not ingratiating as they can be in smarter hotels in the region. The food was excellent.. A burger on arrival was the best we've had in France!

Review 34:WIFI often works intermittently and is generally very slow, but well I guess that this could be a positive fact if you really want to disconnect from work and a hectic agenda! ;)

Review 35:We very much enjoyed hearing the sound of smooth waves from our room; needless to say that it is right by the beach and with amazing views to the sea from the balcony. Great food! Javier is truly an Excellent Chef & Frederic and his staff are all great too. We really needed a long rest after months of hard work so we stayed there for a bit more than a week, which was a really good decision

Review 36:Everything. We came to stay three nights and we left the next day. The hotel was very expensive for the conditions they offer. The room was dirty, the bathroom was dirty, the towels were dirty, the whole hotel needs complete renovation. The halls of the hotel look unpleasant. I would say it is a 1 star hotel.

Review 37:Nothing

Review 38:Service was terrible (hotel staff did not manage to get bathroom cleaned within 4 hours after repititive contact with reception! Rooms are poorly equipped (not even a chair or a hanger)..view "on mountains" is a view on the street..maybe this is all you can expect in that category and price range, but i would not recommend this hotel..

Review 39:Location, direct access to the beach

Review 40:The breakfast buffet had a lack of selection. The hotel was rundown and can use some repairs. Beach umbrellas and loungers cost money to rent above and beyond room and board.

Review 41:The location is incredible. Good wi-fi.

Review 42:A little bit grubby and lacking in modernisation wi fi was pretty useless as was the TV. Don't bother with the evening meals you can get much better food elsewhere.

Review 43:As it says in the hotel name right on the beach. Listen to the waves while you go to sleep. Breakfast was good.

Review 44:shower stall needs to be more watertight.

Review 45:location, views, rooms updated, breakfast, parking, staff

Review 46:Older dirty hotel in need of a major remodeling

Review 47:location

Review 48:Cramped room and disgusting smell of drains

Review 49:Location and free parking

Review 50:Elevator had a funny smell.

Review 51:Beautiful, large room with great mountain views. Right on the beach.

Review 52:place needs a very urgent facelift, very run down

Review 53:location, and view

Review 54:Very poor, unconfortable and dirty

Review 55:Location beautiful

Review 56:An average family hotel.

Review 57:The location was awesome, right on the beach

Review 58:No wifi in room Rooms, corridors and swimming pool in need of renovation

Review 59:Good breakfast and excellent location. Friendly staff

Review 60:Nothing, it was perfect.

Review 61:This was a lovely place to stay. I wish we had of stayed longer.

Review 62:Hotel is old and needs refurbishing

Review 63:location next to beach Friendly staff

Review 64:Inside and outside appearance of hotel

Review 65:Loved hearing the waves from the bedroom

Review 66:Rooms are old and

Review 67:The location of the hotel is amazing. You can sleep with the sound of waves. Excellent breakfast, helpful staff!..

Review 68:Wi-Fi connection is not good, dropping all the time.

Review 69:Very nice hotel on the beach. Nice and clean rooms. Very nice bar and restaurant on the beach.

Review 70:Cleaning - Facilities outdated - Service

Review 71:Great location

Review 72:dog on beach

Review 73:very close to beach, great breakfest

Review 74:3 friends in our group, but cost of single was high, so paid for 2 doubles. We booked half-board, but the choice was very limited and the 3 courses were very basic (main course: sole(excellent) with salad garnish, but no veg. at all not even 1 frite!)

Review 75:Superb location. Had booked "hill room" (cheaper) but given "Sea view room" (fab view!). Spacious room. Heated swimming pool (useful if sea is cold). Open-air restaurant right by the sea. Pleasant reception staff.

Review 76:- meal in hotel restaurant was expensive but preparation was fair and the amount was definitely not worth the money - dust balls in the room and hallway - shower head was old and in terrible condition

Review 77:+ location on the beach + breakfast + good-sized room + friendly, helpful staff

Review 78:Dirty floor in room when we arrived. The hotel was closing for the season but that was no excuse for everything to look unkempt and unloved. The shower hadn't been used for sometime and we had trouble turning on the tap. Water then sprayed everywhere. Other reviewers were right about the hotel.

Review 79:Friendly receptionists. Sea view.

Review 80:The rooms and hotel was fine but the carpet in the hall ways could do with an update and a charge for the hotel sun beds required for the beach but worth at stop off .

Review 81:Beach was literally on your back door and was very clean. Small village with 1 spar shop and 3 restaurants and la lavandou is only 7 km away . Great stop. We booked for 1 night and stayed for 3 , great place to chill out on the beach !

Review 82:everything was fine - but i expected the facilities to be a bit "newer" - everything was clean but it seemed somewhat "older"

Review 83:great location - friendly staff

Review 84:Decor of corridors and rooms. General wear and tear of rooms- and building generally needs updating.

Review 85:Location, friendly staff, cleanliness of the rooms. relaxed atmosphere, breakfast.

Review 86:Noicy tractor cleaning the beach sand at 5 a.m.

Review 87:Excellent food, very friendly staff, nice indoor swimming pool, nice beach right downstairs from the hotel

Review 88:a bit cloudy on last day

Review 89:The hotel staff were excellent so friendly and kind making our short stay a real pleasure. the heated pool for the children was perfect and to cap it all a really good chef delicious Paella and Entrecote, we will be back

Review 90:This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel. Very little has changed in that time which in some ways is good as it keeps the price down but it does mean that there is an air of general shabbiness.

Review 91:The place is fantastic. Huge curving sandy beach. Not over-developed. The hotel is in a fabulous position right beside the sea with private beach area. The hotel is popular and has a friendly atmosphere. All the rooms overlooking the sea have private balconies. Good buffet breakfast is included.

Review 92:The hotel decor is a little dated and tired but this is made up for by the location and service. Beach loungers were charged as an extra which seemed strange. There is no car parking at the hotel although you can drop off and park nearby in a free car park. We didnt eat at the hotel other than breakfast as the evening menu looked overpriced and slightly unadventurous. However there are good restaurants nearby offering a variety of options.

Review 93:The hotel has a stunning location directly on the beach with beautiful views of the bay.We stepped straight from our ground floor room onto a terrasse which gave direct access to the beach. The hotel staff were friendly and efficient and the ffacilities good for a 3 star hotel . The inclusive buffet breakfast was good and varied. we wanted a later check out than 11am and the staff were very accomodating.

Review 94:Everything but the location. The hotel is shabby , dirty and with poormaintenance. People at the reception is nice but can't do much to fixunprofessional/lazy waiters or rooms with an additional child bed yousimply can't walk in or open the door (if you want to use the two bedsat the same time). We decided to leave immediately after our firstbreakfast: a kind of a barrack/hospital looking dining room, no onetable available cleared by leftovers and flyes banquetting on the hamand chese tray were definetively too much. We checked out after onenight instead of the reserved week and they didn't even ask me why....

Review 95:The location on the beach

Review 96:It's all a bit dated, harking back to the 60s, and could do with a makeover.

Review 97:Staff were fabulous and very helpful with our little one year old daughter.

Review 98:The sun beds are extra and quite expensive at 28 euros per dayper couple.

Review 99:This is an excellent 3* hotel in a fabulous location directlyoverlooking the beach. It's the second time that we've stayed here andwe weren't disappointed. Hotel room was large, comfortable and with aircon. Bathroom very good and to a high specification. The buffetbreakfast was very nice and better than at many other places we hadstayed in France. Cavaliere is a special place with wonderful light ifyou are into art and photography. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 100:The location is superb if you love the beach right outside your door. Itis a superb beach which is cleaned and raked every morning. The hotel isvery informal and you can wander on and off the beach as you chose. Itsnot a 5 star so do not expect that, but the food is. Strong Iberianinfluence and top quality ingredients ( 5 year old mature Bellota andsublime Chorizo ) prepared by a master chef who is Spanish, and servedby very competent staff. Good wine list at sensible prices. This hotelmust be viewed from the beach not the road, and the initial road sideimpression might put some visitors off, but stay a while and you willnot regret this little beach haven. We had a ground floor room withpatio opening onto the sand, and a first floor with patio. Simplyfurnished and cleaned daily. Excellent value for money!

Review 101:The Hotel seemed to need decorating inside and out!! If this is how they begin the summer season I would be a little concrened to go late July/August. A pane of glass was missiing in our patio door and was simply boarded-up. The public rooms especially around the pool area had no atmosphere and the decking all around the pool was quite unpleasant - some comfy chairs and soft furnishings in and around the pool and some atmosphree would have been appealing and the costs to do so should be easily justifiable

Review 102:Location is excellent

Review 103:The hotel could use some paint and fixing up on the street side and inthe hallways, but the beachfront and public areas are nicely maintained.

Review 104:Friendly reception. Outstanding location on the sandy beach, on a smallbay with your feet almost in the water (les pieds dans l'eau). Everyroom has a nice balcony with beautiful views. Plentiful parking in afree municipal lot across the street. Short walk to a small convenientgrocery. This appears to be the only large hotel on this small andbeautiful beach.

Review 105:Facilities are outdated and especially bathroom needs serious fix

Review 106:Location, view and very friendly staff. Beach is absolutely stunning.

Review 107:Staff and Service Excellent! Great Price and Position! Beach and Sea Wonderful!

Review 108:Great location & facilities. Very nice rooms with comfortable bed.

Review 109:Breakfast Romm not clean

Review 110:sea view

Review 111:Hard beds

Review 112:Not clean and not comfort. Did not get even shampoo.

Review 113:Nice breakfast. Very nice location.

Review 114:a bit overpriced restaurant and bar

Review 115:good food fantastic view from the balcony great quiet location friendly staff

Review 116:Needs refurbishment.

Review 117:Outstanding location on a beautiful beach.

Review 118:The hotel is at last 40 years old and needs a thoroughly renovation.

Review 119:The location directly at the beach.

Review 120:The hassle with the paid sun chairs

Review 121:The location is fantastic - right on the beach. Nice breakfast.

Review 122:It was windy when we went there.

Review 123:I give 10 points for the amability of people (at the reception and at the restaurant). Breakfast was OK.

Review 124:Staff a bit arrogant (when in France ...) - and not one waiter spoke English!

Review 125:It's situated right next to the beach. Splendid view.

Review 126:Minor detail but the balcony chairs at the Sur Plage are really amazingly uncomfortable!

Review 127:Nude beach Friendliness

Review 128:it's slightly tired but the staff and indeed the food were better than the general appearance of the hotel

Review 129:The location right on the beach

Review 130:The location right on the beach, the balcon with sea view, the breakfast, the relax atmosphere and kindness of the staff

Review 131:Noisy rooms, spanish holiday hôtel, spanish food in Provence.... Toomuch expensive for this....

Review 132:Loved the location, the view, the spacious rooms and the excellent staff.
