Reviews for Hotel Casablanca

Review 1:No parking as advertised, only on street parking. Restaurant was closed.

Review 2:Location was good. Easy to find. Basic but good value. Good eating at a local beach restaurant

Review 3:Heating did not work - control unit came off wall, too. So room 7-10C. Bath in cramped space, water not hot enough. Only one member of staff on duty, except mid-day (2).

Review 4:Superficially, an attractive building and main floor decor.

Review 5:My room faced the sea and the balcony, sunlit almost all day, gave a fantastic view. Breakfast in sunshine was brought with the friendliest of smiles.

Review 6:End of season in an (almost) empty summer resort. Not suprisingly the hotel was not serving meals but there were enough possibilites in walking distance. In southern Spain you don't eat grand meaqls but lots of small freshly prepared snacks (Tapas)

Review 7:It's an old building and not terribly well soundproofed - a bit noisy when other residents were turning in for the night. It's also next to the tropical bird park. We had a room around the other side, but there might be some parrot disturbance elsewhere.

Review 8:We've been eating at Hotel Casablanca's restaurant for a few years - the best oven baked fish in Almuñecar - but this was our first overnight in the hotel. It's a gorgeous old building on the seafront square by the Islamic-era wall, and we loved the Moroccan touches in the sparsely decorated, but lovely room.

Review 9:The air conditioning didn't seem to work well but in October the air is cool enough to open the windows so we didn't see a negative in that.

Review 10:Great location and rooms, made me feel like I was home away from home. The restaurant downstairs is amazing. Breakfast is light (for Irish standards) but filling enough. Great big coffees! I really enjoyed staying here and will stay again, next time with the terrace!

Review 11:We just had a look at the breakfast-tables of the other guests and decided NOT to take it.

Review 12:Close to the beach. Outside of season free parking in the area (season=easter and July, August). We had Chosen a bigger room with view and balcony instead of the offered and pre-paid Standard room, which was a great decision!

Review 13:we only had one card to access the room so unable to charge a tablet or mobile. The electricity supply was not great coming in..low voltage and took all night to give only 30% charge but overall a pleasant stay.

Review 14:location,the staff..good food

Review 15:Room was too small even for a 'standard'. Felt claustrophobic. Although bathroom was better, the edges of the sink and towel rails were in dangerous proximity to your waste or head respectively when passing or using the toilet. No place to store a regular sized suitcase without infringing on the room. Wardrobe depth was too narrow to hang shirts without having to tilt the hangers at an angle to be able to close the door. One window didn't lock lock although moot point as it was top floor without any joining access platform. While furniture was nice, it was marked by several bright stains making it appear dirtier than it actually was

Review 16:Quality of Food was excellent. Lamb Chops, grilled Octopus and Paella highly recommended. Staff were friendly and helpful

Review 17:Needs a little 'love'. Odd light bulb out, toilet seat loose etc. nothing that a handy-man couldn't fix in a day or two

Review 18:Great location. Quiet. Good food. Lots of character.

Review 19:Poor value for money. Lack of facilities. Charged extra for transfer from noisy claustrophobic rear room to front room. Staff somewhat sombre.

Review 20:Location excellent. Balcony in front room provided good view.

Review 21:bed very hard.... should have hand raíl over bath to use shower. service at times indifferent in the bar area

Review 22:hotel quirky and interesting:.good position. excellent bathroom

Review 23:1) As people recommended here I booked a room and asked for a room with Balcony. On check-in they were able to offer me such room, but asked to pay +21 EUR per day for the balcony room. It is way too much. However the room with balcony was very old and everything was broken starting from air conditioning and finishing the toilet seat. Reception refused to move me to some other room the same day, but was able to offer another room without balcony the day after. After all I would not recommend booking balcony room. Mine was very old and expensive as for two stars hotel. I would rather recommend to spend saved 21 EUR on a dinner in a nice restaurant on the beach. 2) Rooms have only two power sockets is near bed and another is used for hairdryer in bathroom. Definately not enough! 3) Hotel doesn't have a lobby area to sit in a hall. All the space is used for hotel restaurant.

Review 24:1) Very good location - close to beaches 2) Just 100m from a great observation point of the city (a hill with a cross on the top) 3) Very fair price for standard room booked for one person (45 EUR). 4) Very well working Internet in rooms and in a hotel hall.

Review 25:I have spent about 300 nights in hotels but these 3 days were the worst. On Internet they states that they have sound proofed walls but this is a simple lying. You can hear every noise from the floor, from other rooms, from the kitchen. You can hear every door closing from the floor like a bomb. You can here if somebody is having shower in other rooms or switching the lights or just walking. The most annoying thing is the kitchen noise. There are different very loud noises coming from the kitchen until 1:30 am! It is impossible to sleep. I have complained about the noise at midnight but the answer was: do not worry, the restaurant will close at 1:00 am. The noises from the kitchen is starting at 6:30 again. So i have to pay a full price for the room but I can sleep only a half night? The hotel is also stating that they have private parking. When I asked for parking at check-in, the answer was that the parking is full. But the parking garage seemed out of service. If you are lucky then you can find a place on the street for 3.60 per 20 hours or the closest parking garage is 600 m far but it cost 30 euro for a day! The neighborhood is full with trash, the beach is pebble and rocky and hard to go in the water. Stay away from this place. I just wonder how people can rate this hotel for such a high value.

Review 26:Nothing.

Review 27:Location was fantastic at this well run family hotel. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. We asked for a sea view which we got for an extra charge but so glad we did as the area comes alive in the evening and was great to see. Breakfast was toast/croissant, coffee and orange juice but was sufficient for us. Lovely family who spoke great English and were very helpful. Would definitely go back - loved Almunecar.

Review 28:Breakfast was big disappointment! We were offered tea/coffee and roll with jam or a croissant.... For that we were charge €17.95!!! So if your breakfast is not included, get yourself real nice breakfast elsewhere.

Review 29:The area is great, most comfy beds

Review 30:Try to purchase an upgrade to a room with a balcony. We were not so lucky and would have loved a view.

Review 31:Great location on a little square very close to the beach. Clean and nice room for the price. Enjoyed a morning swim before having coffee and toast outside the hotel.

Review 32:All the noise in the hotel could be heard at night. Every slamming door and the adjacent room's television. The location on the square is wonderful in the daytime, but the nighttime market noise kept us awake.

Review 33:Amazing location near several beaches, restaurants, and the corniche. A comfortable base to go exploring, walking, to the beach, and near good restaurants.

Review 34:We had a room with a balcony, nice view over the square and to the Mediteranian Sea. Very nice and helpful personnel - clean rooms and good beds. Value for money with hospitality at its best.

Review 35:Minor quirky plumbing issues in the room!

Review 36:Best location in Almuñécar, superb staff and quite possibly, consistently the best fish I've had in any restaurant in Spain.

Review 37:Requested a room with a balcony but on arriving were told a balcony costs extra. Fortunately there was a balcony room available.

Review 38:Brilliant location. We like Almunecar

Review 39:"everything" really enjoyed our stay, staff were friendly and helpful, spotlessly clean, the sea bass was exceptional, loved it will definitely be going back

Review 40:Smokers had used our room before our arrival & it took a while to get rid of the smell. In fact our bed covers could have done with a change as smell of smoke stayed.

Review 41:Staff were wonderfully helpful, cheery & smiley which is infectious. Great location. Would definitely stay again.

Review 42:No rooms with double bed. There was a drip in the bathroom, condensation from the ac unit in the ceiling after we turned it on. They had a repairman in to fix but as we didn't understand / realize the problem yet unknowingly turned him away as we headed into siesta. Staff were still very helpful in getting it cleaned up so we were content.

Review 43:Beautiful building & lobby, superb location for exploring. Nice room, which we used mostly for sleeping. We were attracted by the busy bar & restaurant but ended up eating elsewhere.

Review 44:Good location ,plenty of restaurants nearby . Staff were really pleasant and helpful. Rooms clean and A/C effective. Can't believe only rated 2 star .

Review 45:missing mini-fridge in the room was huge minus in those temperatures, the ornithological park next door very loud all day and night, you really need to close the door to balcony. Staff nice but only one person had good English.

Review 46:The view from the balcony is amazing room was nice and staff friendly and helpful.

Review 47:Would have liked a small fridge in our room.

Review 48:Wonderful terrasse and interiour decorations in marroccanstyle. Very friendly staff, the girl who waited upon us always with a smile. Kind to animals like little kittens outsider.

Review 49:We had to pay 12 euros extra per night for a room with a balcony; this was not mentioned anywhere and we only learned it when checking in.

Review 50:The location was excellent, the staff were friendly and the room was clean. The balcony was large and offered great views.

Review 51:Not all staff speaks English.

Review 52:The view of the Mediterranean from our room was great, and we had the fun of a couple of seagulls living with their offspring (three mini-seagulls) on the roof of the hotel next door, so we could also see them very well :-)

Review 53:Restaurant menu prices do not include tax, (though it does say so on menu, it is easily missed). This is unusual in Spain in our experience. Private parking for the hotel is very limited and the garage has not been available on the last three visits (there a couple of reserved spaces in the street).

Review 54:Staff helpful and friendly. An attractive building in a good location. Serves good food at reasonable prices. Nice room with balcony and view. There is always someone around who speaks English.

Review 55:We were made very welcome and given a free upgrade to a sea view room, which was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed and smart bathroom. We loved it!

Review 56:The owners and staff are really nice and passionate in what they do. Everything is well taken care of and they go out of their way to please the guests. The hotel doesn't look like anything I've seen before, but one thing is for sure. You get way more for your money than expected!

Review 57:The bathroom was very badly laid out. You had yo squeeze past the sink to sit on the loo. However that wouldn't mean I wouldn't stay there again.

Review 58:Staff friendly and welcoming. Lovely well kept building. Excellent value for money

Review 59:When we arrived it took us an hour (!!!) to check in because the receptionist is also a waitress at a hotel restaurant and it was near dinner time. They have us keys and sent to a room where someone was already living in which we obviously only realised when already entered the room. There was no parking available either.

Review 60:Location is good, close to seaside restaurants, nice walk along the sea

Review 61:A fridge in the room would be nice.

Review 62:We paid a bit extra to have a sea view, which was well worth the money. Friendly, helpful staff in this slightly quirky hotel.

Review 63:The walls are a bit thin and the doors almost have to be slammed to shut.

Review 64:The staff were helpful and let me leave my bag there for the day on my departure day. Decent sized room with a big bathroom. Nice entry hall and restaurant area. The location is perfect, next to the beach and old town.

Review 65:I have stayed at this hotel every year fo the past 10 years. I used to live in Almunecar and know the esort very well. I really think that the hotel is worthy of a higher rating than that of 2stars.

Review 66:The location of the hotel and the friendly and helpful staff. Loved the family run restaurant in the centre of town. Had an excellent meal at a reasonable price.

Review 67:Nothing.everything was lovely, very peaceful area of Almuncar, with lots to see and do close by.

Review 68:We arrived late traveling to our property in the mountains and decided to stay here as we had admired it for a long time, Manager waited for us to arrive, assisted us to park, showed us to our room, which although wasn't on the front as requested, was very nice, told us where to go to get a drink and something to eat, gave us keys to get back in, and made sure we had everything we needed. He was there again in the morning doing breakfasts, we didn't take breakfast but it all looked very nice, very polite, helpful, and cheerful, couldn't ask for more.

Review 69:No complaints. A bottle of water in the hotel room would be one small improvement.

Review 70:Excellent restaurant, nice clean room, fantastic view from balcony, helpful hotel manager, friendly staff, top location.

Review 71:The noise of the squawking birds from the adjoining ornithological park, but a small price to pay for the excellent location.

Review 72:Upgrade to a front facing balcony room if not already booked, great views and a lovely place to relax after a day's sight-seeing. We enjoyed a pleasant light dinner with good service.

Review 73:We stopped for lunch while touring and decided we would come back and stay for the last two nights of our holiday. The staff are friendly and the food was good. The rooms were very comfortable

Review 74:Bedrooms Definitely not soundproof.shower cold in the morning.owner Quite miserable perhaps he doesn't like February Food ok as long as you like a lot of salt.breakfast, poor choice

Review 75:The situation was perfect Beds were comfy,

Review 76:Bathroom is OK but to sit on the loo you are almost under the basin!

Review 77:Rooms are small but comfortable with wonderful views of the beach. Beds comfortable but not the pillows.

Review 78:Architectural attractive old Building Central Location second line from sea, some rooms with direct ocean view. Old fashioned, in a charming way, clean rooms. Decent, free WiFi Great value for money

Review 79:Hard to find. Badly sign posted through the old town. Room a little small for the size of furniture. Either needs to modernize the furniture or turn the room into a single. We were located at the side of the hotel.

Review 80:Location of hotel between the 2 bays. Friendly staff. Great for an overnight stay. If staying longer ask for a front room with balcony.

Review 81:The windows to our room wouldn't lock. The bed had one giant pillow that spanned the length of the bed which is not comfortable for 2 people and the linens didn't seem clean. The closet doors were off their runners and couldn't be opened. The chair was broken and could even support light luggage. Also the bathroom doorknob seemed about to break off so we didn't every close the door all the way. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Review 82:The location wasn't bad being about 50 yards from the sea but that was the best thing about this place. The bathroom was pretty good too, although it looked like it belonged in another hotel.

Review 83:The restaurant at the hotel was closed during my time i november. It opened again one of my last days. But the the food i got was not at all good. I left and find another good restaurant. Breakfast ok but not cheap.

Review 84:A very nice hotel right to the beach. Very comfortable big rooms and good beds. Good service and kind staff. Very helpfull. Many thanks especially to you Pablo for your help. The hotel is expanding in wintertime..If I come back to Almunecar I will absolutely stay here again. Hasta luego amigos

Review 85:Parking costs extra, but you might be able to find a space for free in the residential streets behind the hotel.

Review 86:Amazingly kitsch imitation-moorish building with great views over sea. Nice town to walk around or spend an evening. Clean and comfy room. Pleasant cool interior and pavement terrace for a drink. Pleasant, helpful staff.

Review 87:small detail, but the breakfast that was on offer was only croissant or bread, fresh orange juice was a real bonus

Review 88:location was great for us. But being next to a bird park might but some people off. For us it was like being back in Africa with the morning bird calls

Review 89:breakfast from 09 to 11, no good for early risers like me, but the staff helped us leave at 08:00, I would highly recommend this baby, i will be coming back on my next tour

Review 90:great location great staff, bike in garage for safe keeping, super wifi which was free. super bedroom and shower room.

Review 91:Do Spanish hoteliers Think we are A caming there to inhale fresh maritime air? B their perfume?Answer is A.Polluted air by perfume gives lower points for stadning -cleaning.I had to take my valuables for promenade and leave even doors not only windows opened for this to ventilate out

Review 92:Wow seaside property, what a nice architekture from outside and inside.Nice staff. Not much English spoken.Fine location at great beach and near centre of Almunecar.Walking dostance to stores, nice restaurants.

Review 93:We would have loved to have had coffee/tea making facilities in our rooms, but this is because we are early risers, and found it hard waiting until 9.00am for breakfast!! However we did find a cafe not far away where we were able to have one

Review 94:Our rooms were spotless, very comfortable with the basics, the bathroom was very nice with loads of hot water, and the views from one of our balcony front rooms was amazing. One of us had a room at the back and that was lovely and quiet. The restaurant was fabulous on a terrace on the grond floor overlookung the square. The food we had was delicious.

Review 95:The only downside was on a Friday night where some of the local youths were noisy outside, at varying times of the night, causing a virtually sleepless night!

Review 96:The staff were friendly and efficient, the room very clean and well appointed. Any visitor must eat in the hotel restaurant for an excellent, good value meal. The location of the hotel is unbeatable. Will certainly visit again!

Review 97:Not enough electric sockets. Not enough bedside tables. Not enough bedside lamps. No air conditioning in our room.

Review 98:Excellent location, top class friendly staff, easy parking, restaurant, good wifi and very clean.

Review 99:Barely enough room to turn round in the bathroom. Lift was slow & only took 2 people & their luggage at a time, so when checking out we had to wait a long time for the lift to be free to take us. Nobody at reception for several hours after lunch, so no help there if needed.

Review 100:Location & having a room with a walk in shower & not over a bath. Not bad for the price.

Review 101:Our room (105) looked straight onto the neighbouring hotel and had limited privacy. The shower leaked. The hotel has very few balcony rooms but most side rooms would have a better outlook than this one. We left early but would have happily stayed if we had had a better room.

Review 102:Helpful staff, beautiful hotel close to sea and old town. Good breakfast on terrace overlooking square.

Review 103:Only one complaint, guests banging room doors first thing in the morning and last thing at night, typical of holiday makers abroad!!

Review 104:Stayed 2nd to the 11th Sept 2014, Nice welcome on arrival, good sized bedroom with lovely balcony, bedroom and bathroom very clean. Maid service every day, again no complaints. Don't be put off by the Official 2 Star Rating, this place is better than some of the 4 star Hotels in the area. Would we come again, YES we would.

Review 105:the breakfast is quite poor, but enough for a quick morning snack ... the choice of TV channles is quite limited, mostly Spannish channels ... the area is mostly for elderly people, not suitable for young clients willing to go out ... the single room was very small and the airconditionning was placed right above the bed, thus, impossible to use at night ... difficult to park the car arounfd the hotel ... even if the general hotel rate is over 8, please, mind that it is still 2* ...

Review 106:the hotel is well situated near two wonderful beaches with bars and restaurants ... the staff is helpfull, but there are only 2 persons speaking english ... the rooms are quite clean and even if I was staying in a single room the bathroom is quite spacious ... quite decent for 2* and the price you pay for ...

Review 107:The noise from the restaurant bellow is rather disturbing until late at night. If you close the window and use the air conditioning, it's all right. Otherwise is a minus. Everything else regarding this hotel - excellent.

Review 108:the beds where not the best we have stayed in other hotels where the beds where loads better for less money.. the service for the breakfast was very slow they could of done with more staff

Review 109:the location was great close to all amenities and the beach close to a road but had no problems with sound in the bedrooms

Review 110:A/C wasn't the best in my room. No parking available. Breakfast charges were not €4 per person as stated on booking.com, they were FROM €4 per person. The room safe wasn't secured in place so could be picked up and moved.

Review 111:Great hotel in an excellent location! Very clean! Good wifi.

Review 112:Room is not soundproofed!! Hear everything.....opening and closing doors, people walking up and down the corridor, laughing, talking. All went quiet from 3am. Not good if you have to be up for 8am. Window was left open so room was full of flies. Parking is aweful in the summer. Parking in the hotel is €10 a day in August.... why they can't just give this as an option. Impossible for parking nearby in the summer. Car towing and ticketing is hot in this area, so make sure your ticket from the meter is displayed clearly in the window.

Review 113:Beautiful looking hotel Beautiful bathroom Mattress was a lot better than local hotels Fab shower Great internet connection in the room Underground car parking - wish I had this option when booking.

Review 114:Nothing really!

Review 115:Great location a few steps away from the beach and bird park and only a short walk to shops, museum and other attractions. Wonderful food - fresh fish, salads etc simply and beautifully prepared. Large comfortable bed, air conditioned room. Bathroom newly refurbished with gorgeous marble tiles (the real stuff!!) and large shower.

Review 116:Nothing all excellent

Review 117:Absolutely love this hotel. Staff are excellent . Food is superb and the ensalada de le casa is to die for . This is a must if you are wishing to stay in almunecar .rooms excellent . Next to the beach. All you could wish for .

Review 118:I know we don't go on holiday to watch television or the news, buthaving said that, I thought that one channel with either bbc, cnn or skynews would have been useful. It was 'interesting' watchingRussian and Chinese 24-hour news programmes.... ;-)

Review 119:The location is perfect, with either side of Almunecar at equi-distanceand right by the rock and bird sanctuary (if you're interested).More importantly, the hotel's location means it is very wellsheltered from any winds, which can be surprisingly strong even in theheight of summer. The room had a balcony which overlooked the rock andthe sea - very beautiful.

Review 120:If a light sleeper, the bird calls from the nearby tropical birds zoo can be a little penetrating at dusk and dawn.

Review 121:This was my fifth visit over seven years. Just a stone's throw from the (west) beach and a gentle stroll to the old town, the Casablanca is in an ideal location. We did not eat evening meals in the hotel as we had other arrangements but the restaurant was busy each night and the food on diners' plates looked to be of a high standard.

Review 122:I found it very noisy to sleep with doors opening and slamming shut repeatedly late in the night but I am unsure if this was one particular room on my floor or whether everybody except us was out late! I don't like the fact that Almunecar uses a fixed price for taxis which is not the norm elsewhere in Granada where taxi meters are used.

Review 123:The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate at the restaurant and enjoyed the fish. The bathroom is very nice.

Review 124:A real find , the hotel Casablanca was a real gem, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was spacious clean and comfortable. The cleaning service was as good as any 4 star hotel Ive stayed in. And the breakfast every morning was a delight , simple but done really well and great value for money

Review 125:The smell of fried food inside on the ground floor....and dusty curtains in room

Review 126:Staff and location were great.....and the breakfast was good value

Review 127:composition of the beds ! strange.

Review 128:the location, balcony and the quality of the chef Emiliano !!!

Review 129:Fanastic location and amazing views, the sta are very helpful and the food is excellent!!!

Review 130:clean is not enough.

Review 131:location

Review 132:Relaxing on the balcony and enjoying the ocean view. Walking along the Promenade. Safe free parking.

Review 133:No restaurant facilities whilst we were there

Review 134:Position and decor
