Reviews for Hotel Hacienda de Abajo
Review 1:There is nothing to complain about overall. I do prefer gluten free, vegan, and non-alcoholic options but the chefs and wait staff were very accommodating.
Review 2:Amazing staff especially Alba at the front desk, she is very knowledgeable, kind and professional. We were well taken care of by all the staff members and the restaurant accomodated my dietary requests with no problems. What a memorable, comfortable, historic paradise.
Review 3:The menu in the dining room did not change often enough, although food and drink, including tapas, were always very good.
Review 4:The discrete competence and charm of the staff. The elegance or rooms, garden, pool and chapel, all with many antiques of distinction was very relaxing. This has won recognition in the Spanish hotel listing system. The owner's vineyards provide some good wines as well!
Review 5:The staff was very friendly, our room spacy and well furnished with antiques, the food and atmosphere in the restaurant was fantastic, the garden was beautiful and the pool area was nice and quiet.
Review 6:Beyond the location and facilities it is the fantastic staff that make this hotel so wonderful - thanks to all for making our stay great once again. Back next year for TV and already looking forward to it! Chris & PK
Review 7:View from my room was not outstanding; a banana-tree in front of a wall.
Review 8:Perfect service, outstanding interior, beautiful hacienda with botanical garden, historic building and an overwhelming amount of museum-worthy art-pieces, not to forget the quality of the cuisine!
Review 9:Slightly strange smell in our room every now and again . Could have done with hot drinks available in room (I know that's not very Spanish!) . Not very impressed with the veggie meal I had on the first night although we were very lucky to be able to get food at 10.30 at night.
Review 10:Loved the staff and breakfasts. Pool great bedrooms super. Fantastic setting.
Review 11:The restaurant does not match the excellent quality in the rest of the hotel. We ordered two different fish dishes. They were both overcooked with the same chicory and bitter aubergine on both, which was most unpleasant. The dishes bore little resemblance to the menu description.
Review 12:Beautiful and luxurious facilities with extremely comfortable beds. Excellent service, especially sorting out the personal WiFi in our room. The staff are very polite.
Review 13:No wifi in bedrooms
Review 14:Everything, the style of the hotel, the food, the service. Excellent
Review 15:Do stay in a museum with no view. The most expensive room is like a prison !!
Review 16:Wonderful garden
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:Everything - just perfect
Review 19:Had to move rooms due to problem with stench from sir con. Apparently this wasn't the first time
Review 20:Beautiful place, lovely, helpful people and the most amazing breakfasts
Review 21:The breakfast selection was okay but the coffee was not hot and the waiter did not explain or offer us a menu for the additional cooked items that were available. We had dinner in the restaurant on our first evening but found it expensive and the food was not exceptional.
Review 22:The hotel is unique with individually decorated and furnished rooms with lots of lovely antiques throughout. It is very clean and on the whole the service was good. It has a nice pool area and a lovely garden.
Review 23:manic breakfast organisation, really awful concrete showers
Review 24:Superb staff, awesome antiques, comfortable beds, good food at dinner (sometimes), good breakfast coffee, terrific gardens
Review 25:Breakfast was a bit fawlty towers - there was too much for the staff to do ie there were not enough on duty . This meant a lottery as to whether you got orange juice at the start or end of breakfast, the hot food orders were slow and not always what was ordered, we had a coffee pot with no lid one day - everyone took this in good humour as the staff were trying v hard but it's not acceptable at this level of hotel
Review 26:The staff were very friendly professional and helpful, the room we had was spacious and full of interesting furnishings and artefacts, the gardens in the grounds beautiful
Review 27:Critically, there is a lack of manager on site which at times was reflected in the service delivery. Service in the dining room upstairs was extremely slow on the one occasion when we ate there. The food although good did not vary so I agree with a previous reviewer that it would be a problem if eating there every night; most people do not and instead frequent the extremely well-run local German restaurants (Carpe Diem and Altamira). It must be soul-destroying for the chef to be cooking the same menu night after night. Breakfast is served in the bar area and courtyard - the buffet is extensive but smoked salmon only appeared once and one particular breakfast was extremely poorly delivered, with several guests arriving with nowhere to sit; I had to completely clear a table for us, which should not happen at these prices. The rooms should definitely have tea and coffee making facilities. Tissues and cotton wool balls and cotton buds in the bathroom would have been appreciated.
Review 28:The hotel is situated on the sunniest side of the island and the local town and port area is good. The magnificent antique collection is amazing. The gardens are beautifully kept. The pool when warm is gorgeous. The staff are delightful and try extremely hard to help.
Review 29:If I have one small criticism it is that the a la carte menu in the restaurant is not very extensive and for those staying for two weeks or more can become rather repetitive. The food quality is good but perhaps does not match the excellence of the other facilities
Review 30:The location in Tazacorte, is excellent, especially so as this is one of the sunniest locations in the whole of the Canary Isles. Moreover, the hotel is very quiet and peaceful. The rooms are all beautifully furnished with period furniture. The staff are all extremely efficient and very helpful.
Review 31:Appalling chaotic breakfasts, dirty glasses left by pool for days, no poolside service (honesty bar sparse), had to dig out staff to get drink/snack. Lack of management care, interest. A few small touches would bring a 70% experience up to 100%.
Review 32:Style, decor, pool, staff
Review 33:First room offered (superior room for which we had paid extra). It wasdark with a huge (4 metre high) wall towering over the 2 metre deeppatio. We requested to be moved and happily accepted a very pleasantordinary room (no refund of the premium we had paid for the first roomthough!). Food quality and service in the dining room and breakfast areavaried wildly. Occasionally very good but often not, many items on thelimited and standard menu (same every day) ran out including, amazingly, coffee at the beginning of breakfast one day. It took 45 minutes to geta boiled egg (on the menu) one day. Next day was fine. It is a shamebecause the cooking was usually good but by the end of the week very fewguests were using the dining room as the service was so slow.
Review 34:Pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, gardens, staff, furnishings, the room (ordinary)which we moved to.
Review 35:Uneven food offer at breakfast. Poor directions to hotel. Limited amount of common areas to relax. Lack of wifi in rooms.
Review 36:The location, building and interior antiques and fittings. Staff friendly and knowledgeable.
Review 37:The staff are lovely but breakfast is a mismanaged event ! There are not enough tables/crockery etc. if all the guests decide to breakfast at once. The staff are continually chasing their own tails trying to accommodate everyone's needs and there is sometimes a long wait ! What a shame !!
Review 38:This is a most beautiful hotel with fantastic gardens, a lovely pool and beautiful spacious rooms. Tazacorte is a great place to stay - always sunny even though it may be raining elsewhere in La Palma ! A wonderful place for chilling out ! Despite problems with the service at breakfast I would definitely stay here again !
Review 39:NO PROPER SITTING AREA TO READ AND THE BASIC BAR WAS THE BREAKFAST ROOM WITH NO ATMOSPHERE.THE BEDROOMS HAD NO ARMCHAIRS ,NO TEA MAKING FACILITIES.SORRY BUT FOR THE PRICE WE PAID I WOULDNT RETURN
Review 40:THE GARDENS AND POOL AREA
Review 41:Food in the main dining room not of a quality to match the hotel, our only slight dissapointment.
Review 42:Lovely hotel finished and fitted to a very high standard including some 2,000 antiques. The staff could not have been more helpful.
Review 43:The food was not of the quality we were hoping for. We ate there twice but to be honest we had a much better meal at Carpe Diem in town and in a fish restaurant down in the Puerto. They are missing a trick there because potentially it could be a destination restaurant. As another reviewer has mentioned the room would benefit from having a sofa or an armchair in it. The pool is not heated and was very cold (we were there in December)
Review 44:The bed was comfortable. There was a lovely terrace area outside the room with two chairs which were in full sun for most of the day. The gardens are lovely and very well kept. The sun beds by the pool were extremely comfortable (and the weather was superb). The jacuzzi was very good. The breakfast area outside was lovely.
Review 45:The pool was freezing (but this was very refreshing on a hot day so not really a 'negative') :-)
Review 46:Exquisite location Staff were wonderful and so friendly and helpful, especially Claudia and Pia. Restaurant food was very good and portions were generous. We stayed in a Standard room, which was very luxurious. Very close to both the town and port of Tazacorte. The collection of antiques makes the hotel truly unique and very special - there are some wonderful pieces on display.
Review 47:We would have liked to have a comfortable chair or sofa in the room. Thebeds are very high (not necessarily a problem)
Review 48:We had a pleasant room with balcony overlooking a lovely swimmingpool. The room and common areas have antique furniture, paintingsand chandeliers. We ate in the restaurant once; the food was goodand reasonably priced. The other days we ate at the port (about amile away).
The Fine Print
