Reviews for Château Le Cagnard
Review 1:No bad comments
Review 2:The character of the building set in the beautiful old town blended perfectly. The hotel is decorated and furnished extremely tastefully and combined with the first class attitude of the staff created a great experience
Review 3:The price of dinner (but there are numerous alternatives available locally).
Review 4:Spacious and comfortable room. The setting and overall style is wonderful and the staff are both helpful and friendly.
Review 5:Would have liked an open space area to sit in to have a drink as once dinner was under way there is only inside to sit.
Review 6:We really enjoyed our stay here and the beds were so comfy! The building is amazing and the lift is an experience
Review 7:The treacherous pathway in and out of the hotel made logistics an issue for us on our last night in France. I wish I had been better warned.
Review 8:Charming, small hotel
Review 9:nothing bad to say! Just be prepared to pay for parking below, and they'll pick you up.
Review 10:Most beautiful and dreamy castle in the cutest hilltop medieval town with views of the sea. Stunning rooms, comfy beds, quaint location, it was the most luxurious last night of our trip after traveling around the south of france. Convenient to the airport.
Review 11:The location is such that there is no parking, and we are not told this until after the reservation is booked. There are options that were closed or full or highly inconvenient - however, they did pick us up and drop us off at the distant lots. It is a hassle though and we would not ever stay there again because of this issue.
Review 12:The staff was pleasant, accommodating and helpful. The bed was one of the most comfortable - ever.
Review 13:Room carpets were not vacuumed whilst we were there and the tiled floors were dirty and hotel supplied slippers are recommended. Wi-fi was very slow and hit and miss.
Review 14:Wonderful Location Fantastic big rooms and views Very Comfortable beds Excellent Friendly staff
Review 15:A couple of the staff members where not professional. The waiter was "too familiar" and one of the junior girls had a negative and not service minded attitude.
Review 16:The charm and intimacy of the hotel and the location.
Review 17:Breakfast was bit of a lottery. It was neither "good continental" nor "good cooked" and often what you wanted had run out - sometimes to be replaced and sometimes not !! Service varied greatly at breakfast - from the very good to the non-existent. Failure of hotel booked taxi to arrive at Nice airport.
Review 18:Superb hill top location in a "Medieval" environment of narrow passages and flights of stairs. A fascinating conversion that had been done very well - but stairs everywhere Dinner was good. Helpful staff.
Review 19:Our 3 night stay was absolutely a highlight of our 11 days in France. Freda and Kevin made sure we were well taken care of and answered all of our many questions regarding various subjects during our travel. If I get back to France I would re-book at the Cagnard without hesitation!
Review 20:The room where we stayed was in a not very well conserved building, the accesses are a nightmare in general. Getting to the place is just not doable unless you are driving a Smart or a bike, especially if the car is a rental and you don´t want to pay extra on the insurance. However, the hotel has a person that picks you up if you park nearby at the cemetery or in the town. Also, I still don´t understand why some nice hotels like this one keep using ceramic tiles on the floors of the bedrooms, no rugs or carpets whatsoever.
Review 21:The general feeling of the building and the history. Its good value for money
Review 22:no pool and a bit difficult to access by taxi
Review 23:charming medieval chateau, beautiful vues -walking around ancient cobblestoned, narrow alleyways, free navette to access downtown shops and beach
Review 24:Very beautiful but location with access issues by car difficult but hotel driver fantastic and very accommodating!
Review 25:View, balcony, food staff overall and old medieval village charming!!
Review 26:bear in mind that this place is on top of of the hill near the chateau. It was quite a far walk down so we decided to just stay where we were and just explore the neighborhood. If you do not have a car, its going to be very difficult to go down to the town and come back up so make sure you are packed for everything etc water unless you want to pay four euros for a bottle of evian.
Review 27:I loved this place. It is a bit hidden from the main touristy place so loved the fact that we could get away from all that mass and one comfort night at this gorgeous chateau. We were first worried bout how to get to the hotel from the station, but when we called the hotel, they sent us a ride for free of charge! This was not a shuttle bus, small manual car of a staff but did the trick.
Review 28:Situated right at the top of the old town "Haut Cagnes", it can be a little inconvenient for access if any problems with mobility.
Review 29:Wonderful old-world charm but recently renovated for impeccable modern polish.
Review 30:just breakfast at $20 but breakfast really good.
Review 31:Everything from the personal touch of rose petals on the bed to the nespresso coffee in the room to the unbelievable view from the room and this was the cheapest room.
Review 32:Not a great welcome- girl at reception not very welcoming-more interested at looking at computer..
Review 33:Luxury of bedroom and general. special character of beautiful chateau
Review 34:The breakfast did not have a great selection, and on our second morning we had to wait so long for coffee that in the end, we gave up waiting. Parking nearby was difficult, but the hotel had a very useful free shuttle service. We could hardly ever connect to the wifi.
Review 35:The room was wonderful, very comfortable with fantastic views
Review 36:the access to this hotel is absolutely horrible. If you want to stay in, you must leave your car in a public parking which is few hundreds meters of the hotel, if you do not you take the risk to severely dammaged your car.
Review 37:It is a little tricky to get to; & if you have a large car do not try to drive right up to the hotel. The hotel do offer to pick you up from a car park located down the hill side. The reviews saying it is hard to find nearly put us off from booking, however I am so glad we decided to give it a try as the fact it is tucked away in a hillside in narrow cobbled streets adds to the charm of this hotel.
Review 38:we stayed in a deluxe room which had amazing views . The food was also fabulous I would definitely recommend the steak.
Review 39:The castle is situated at the top of a hill, which was difficult to manage walking, especially with luggage or souvenirs, but the view was exquisite and made it worth the exertion to climb daily.
Review 40:My partner and I were on our honeymoon when we sojourned at Chateau Le Cagnard. We were quite impressed by the wonderful hospitality demonstrated by the staff in their direct and customer-focused approach and the overall ambiance they created. The view from our window was palatial and the cuisine offered in the dining room was delicious. We isn't realize that breakfast was included on our first day, but certainly enjoyed it on our second and third mornings there. The concierge went above and beyond in her outreach to us as she drove us personally to the train station as we departed for our next French city to explore. Incredible experience all around!
Review 41:Because of the unique geography of Haut de Cagnes reaching the hotel by car is not possible through the narrow streets. Parking a car in the nearby public carpark is expensive and this fact is not obvious in the hotel information. Free parking is available outside the Haut but you have to get lifts from the hotel to and from.
Review 42:Character of the property and the friendliness of the staff - nothing is too much bother for them.
Review 43:The inconvenience of not being able to drive all the way to the hotel with all the packing. Sure the staff was friendly and helpful but it was still a hassle. We will actually never go back. Dirty floor in room. The smell of old humidity in room.
Review 44:There was no drape or shade for the bathroom window.
Review 45:The staff was excellent. Gregory was wonderful!!! He helped us park the rental car and drive it out of the narrow streets. He even came in early as we decided to leave earlier in the morning than originally planned. Enjoyed the dinner with wine, too. Service was superior.
Review 46:Most taxis can't get to the entrance so it's a 200m uphill walk, all part of the historical location, just wouldn't suit elderly or infirm customers
Review 47:Fabulous staff, beautifully refurbished property
Review 48:The breakfasts could have been better. Sometimes service was slow and not the best selection or quality for such a lovely and romantic hotel.
Review 49:I loved this hotel. I had stayed there 30 years ago. It is less charming and more modern with the most recent renovations but beautiful. The setting is an oasis from the busy, hustle and bustle of the region.
Review 50:There is no on site parking and having a car in Cagnes sur Mer is essential. They will take you to the car garage but waits is involved.
Review 51:The beds are exceptionally comfortable. The rooms are spacious and having a Nepresso in the room is a added touch of luxuary.
Review 52:Nothing
Review 53:Beautiful place. Wonderful scenery. Great ample room. (Jr suite) spotlessly clean brand new. Updated Must have very smAll car to maneuver tiny streets excellent location
Review 54:Invisage problems for disabled guests due to the nature of the building and surrounding area. (We had just left friends, one of whom is disabled, so this was what occurred to us).
Review 55:Location to die for set in an old medieval town above Cagnes sur Mare. High standard of facilities and service.
Review 56:Ok, the streets are narrow but it isn't such a big problem if you have a small car. Its a little bit expensive, but its worth it.
Review 57:We went to this hotel during our honeymoon trip. It was the best hotel i have ever been too. Friendly staff, clean, quite. Breakfast was delicious but don't forget to book a dinner table. Unique hotel.
Review 58:Nothing!!
Review 59:The hotel oozed with charm, from its romantic medieval location, the gracious staff, the luxurious rooms, the lovely view and hidden nearby plaza, the fantastic breakfast withthe best coffee and croissants in all of France!
Review 60:Distance from sea, difficulty of getting around without a car, steep slopes, no pool or outside relaxation area.
Review 61:Medieval village was wonderful and hotel very beautiful.
Review 62:Go for the car parks on the outskirts of the village and arrange collection by the Hotel if you have any quirms about navigating the very narrow and twisting streets. The Hotel make this option very easy.
Review 63:So glad we booked as concerns about the location made us doubtful but we squeezed our small car up to the Hotel and it was stunning. Beautiful building with rooms full of character. Helpful and friendly staff. We had a wondefully cooked evening meal on the terrace with spectacular views to the coast where we also had a super continental breakfast with lots of choice. Looking forward to going back!
Review 64:We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Chateau. Staff were very friendly. Loved the quaintness of the area. Our 'petit maison' named Wery!! was superb. Loved having our continental breakfast on the open terrace every morning. We parked in the two local car parks and walked to and from the Chateau which is straightforward once you know where your going. Would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return one day.
Review 65:- hot meals at breakfast at extra charge and only on weekend. No hot meals at week days - was impossible to park nearby, but the hotel staff picks you up with luggage upon request within 10 mins. - the description of the room at booking.com was wrong in comparison to the reality. I booked "luxe" with seaview, but got a garden room with no view at all. Manager claimed we were upgraded to a better room (which they only explained at the check-out) and told that in the future I should state in my booking request what exactly I need to get what I want (which is kind of weird as i'm choosing hotel by the room description and everything's what stated there is important).
Review 66:- unusual "chateaux" rooms, spacious, two-level room with bed on the first floor - good speed of wifi (though not in all parts of the room) - good quality rooms, recently renovated - some rooms have fantastic view and a terrace with sun loungers (we booked two rooms - one of them was like that)
Review 67:This hotel is simply amazing! We loved our room and the location. Parking for us was not a problem because we have a small car but it is do useful to pay attention to the hotel stuff's advice. The breakfast was superb as well, fantastic cheese etc...
Review 68:The neighbours from somewhere close by keeping us awake all night partying, not necessarily other guests. No pool. The taxi we asked for to take us to the airport was in fact a limousine transfer which we weren't told about, we expected a Cab. The cost of a 20 minute trip to Nice airport cost us 45 Pounds, ultra expensive. The Hotel should have informed us of this cost.
Review 69:View Courtesy bus Local bars and restaurants Great staff
Review 70:Wifi :((
Review 71:Hotel and whole historical area around the old castle and mountain is very romantic with wonderful little restaurants etc..... helpful and friendly staff bringing us up and down the narrow roads, ask for Gregory and Romi "the cagnard mcgyvers" :))
Review 72:Minor comment. Driving to it is difficult but worth it when you get there and they will come and pick you up from a lower car park. Had to keep re logging on to wifi.
Review 73:Rooms, dining area, staff, building and architecture, views and ambience
Review 74:we did not like that our aircondition went off on the last night and there was no one in the hotel to respond to our calls to attend to this. spent an awfully uncomfortable and sleepless night.
Review 75:liked its decor and the staff who were helpful. views were good from terrace of breakfast room and some of the rooms.
Review 76:The location is magnificent, in the heart of a beautiful fortified medieval village. The rooms are spacious, with balconies or terraces with great views over the hills and the sea. Breakfast was, also, good. Varied cheases, juices, jams, meats. The only comment: unless you have a really small car and you are an experienced driver, do not even think of going with the car inside the medieval village. The streets are very narrow, with sharp turns. There are two parkings just outside the village, one with a fer, the other one is free, but a little further away. And the hotel staff was very helpful with the luggage transfer
Review 77:To park the car is a bit of a dilemma. A big car cant make it up and have to park down in the village. Breakfast does not include eggs or hot food.
Review 78:The hotel in general is beautiful. Great old Chateau with fantastic rooms and a great view. Very relaxing.
Review 79:Room was smaller than expected and a little bit worn in places (table stains).Wish there was a bath -- only shower.
Review 80:Location and staff.
Review 81:Everything - thank you so much to all concerned! View from the Picasso suit was amazing. Blue sky and sunshine. Hotel superb.
Review 82:All good.
Review 83:The staff are super friendly and very helpful. The property is beautiful.
Review 84:Room did not have a view
Review 85:The location and standard of hotel.....quaint and has character
Review 86:The receptionist was very helpful and friendly and the view of the property is magnificent
Review 87:Terrible food at the restaurant
Review 88:Fantastic hotel
Review 89:I like the very soft bed and duvet very much.
Review 90:Noise from party downstairs on second night
Review 91:Ambience
Review 92:Waiting for the pickup at the parking lot more than 30 minutes
Review 93:Stunning restoration
Review 94:Tough location to get car into but hotel was very supportive and 24 hr driver was great.
Review 95:Excellent accomodation, very comfortable.
Review 96:Attentive staff and a great view of the Mediterranean from the dining balcony.
Review 97:The character and charm of the hotel and the very helpful staff
Review 98:The quiet surroundings and beautiful location. The service was always top class.
Review 99:The entire staff was great... Gregory even drove our car out. Thank you!
Review 100:Wifi was not so good in some part of hotel.
Review 101:Hotel staff were helpful and very friendly. Location is excellent. Room is quiet and clean.
Review 102:No bad experiences
Review 103:Location, surroundings, views, very friends staff
Review 104:The hotel is tastefully decorated in every nook and cranny. The staff was superb.
Review 105:A little hard to find but, really, not a thing.
Review 106:The reception staff were exceptional. Meals on the patio were as wonderful as the view.
Review 107:Amazing location, right in the heart of the medieval town, wonderful restaurant and exceptionally helpful staff. The whole stay was perfection.
Review 108:atmasphere ...cleanliness...well everything :)
Review 109:1. They don't have a chef at breakfast to make eggs. 2. The roads leading to the hotel are very narrow.
Review 110:1. The rooms were big and comfortable.
Review 111:Parking a nightmare and very costly. Very hilly, be prepared Dinner/wine was expensive and very slow coming but breakfast excellent
Review 112:Somewhere different with main attraction the view
Review 113:Wi fi was slow and kept dropping in and out so was difficult for my husband to check his business emails.
Review 114:We were made to feel so welcome by all the staff. We had booked a suite but were upgraded as we were celebrating my husbands 50th birthday. The room we had was luxurious. The bed was like a big fluffy cloud. We stayed in 8 different hotels on our trip and the bed in this hotel was by far the best and most comfortable. Restaurant was lovely and the chef created some amazing food. Also loved how the roof opened up to see the night sky.
Review 115:Unfortunately my husband became very ill on Saturday night after eating in the restaurant and although we cannot be sure was most probably from the scallops he had...
Review 116:The beds/rooms were very comfortable and the location is breathtaking.
Review 117:It's hard to get close to this great hotel with your car, so park out of the old city and call the hotel and they come to pick you with their car
Review 118:The service was great, especiali Gregory who helped us with the car and was very warm and helpful
Review 119:The staff were very professional, genuinely friendly and helpful. The food was first class, beautifully presented and very well cooked. The location presented problems which the staff overcame, collecting us from the car park and leading us to the motorway on our last morning.
Review 120:Very tough to access by car, better to leave it in Planastel parking down the hill. Breakfast is a bit too limited in choice, could be also some warm dishes (like omelette), more choice of vegetables and cheese.
Review 121:Great place (old chateau) with beautiful rooms, we had a Valloton room with big terrace, nice views, helpful reception employees.
Review 122:Wine in restaurant rather expensive @42 euros for 75 cl of Entre deux mers .
Review 123:Very comfortable bed, spacious room with a seating area + a small balcony with sea views. Very helpful & friendly staff, made our stay very enjoyable, especially as they collected us from train station in Cagnes-sur-mer, on Sunday afternoon.
Review 124:Perhaps a bit of choice at breakfast would have been nice, rather than everything brought at once. I don't really need meat and cheese at breakfast, or yogurt in fact, so it was wasted. I would have liked more choice of breads/ pastries. no other negatives.
Review 125:The location is superb. The hotel itself is beautifully renovated. The staff are efficient and friendly. The bed was comfortable. The room and bathroom were very clean. I would definitely go back, in fact I asked to look at other rooms and began planning another stay.
Review 126:the hotel is on a cliff and roads to it are very narrow so a regular car can't get close to the hotel. (Small cars don't have that problem)
Review 127:The hotel sits on a cliff overlooking the sea so the views are great. The dining room is excellent: breakfasts on the terrace were beautiful-dinners outstanding albeit pricy. The old city around it is endlessly colorful.
Review 128:bed linen not changed during 4 day stay no prices for mini bar which resulted in our presuming that water was free v unpleasant odour in lift
Review 129:location
Review 130:We had a large car as we drove from England I wish we had read the small print as it gave my partner a mini heart attack as to how narrow the roads were!!
Review 131:It was the hotels first season and we were very impressed at the standard. The owner was a lovely young lady who has with her father restored this lovely building to a very high standard. The staff stayed up till midnight to guide us onto their premises and couldn't have been nicer. The breakfast was stunning with lots of locally sourced produce which is always lovely to see and checking out was quick but very personable. All in all a pleasant but unfortunately short stay
Review 132:For a 250€-per-night room, it's so utterly ridiculous to ask 1€ per coffee capsule to use the espresso machine provided in the room it's almost insulting. It's also a bit weird that there's no convention for a parking spot: leaving your car at Le Planastel is very convenient, but also quite expensive.
Review 133:The location. The staff friendliness. The atmosphere. The room. The soft pillows and great bed. Everything was in line with our best expectations. Haut-de-Cagnes is really charming and staying at Le Cagnard was the perfect complement for a blissful weekend.
The Fine Print
