Reviews for Hotel Helios - Almuñecar
Review 1:Hotel not suitable for younger traveller I noticed SAGA do a lot of trip for the riper aged traveller and a lot of retirees there so wouldn't recommend it for those wanting vibrant hotel
Review 2:Room was clean big bar area
Review 3:Bit disappointed that the Gala Meal was buffet, last Christmas it was served. Food still great but everybody going up at once was a bit chaotic. Had to ask for extra pillows as they were hard and flat. Such a small thing for them to rectify!
Review 4:The hotel is excellent, don't know why it isn't four star. Like the large rooms, quiet air con/heating, and excellent food. Easy parking and delighful terraces at the front and on the roof.
Review 5:There were a lot of tour groups and the restaurant was manic. The hot food was ok, but could be better.
Review 6:Super comfy bed and a lovely private sun deck as we had a corner room on the top floor. The outdoor pool is heated so we were able to swim in November.
Review 7:From the warm greeting at reception to the helpfulness of the staff at breakfast and everything else in between it would be difficult to stay in a better hotel
Review 8:We booked B&B but only went on the first day, no table's set up no cups and the coffee was awful went next door for breakfast
Review 9:the Location was great
Review 10:Poor WiFi signal in the room. Please be aware this hotel is used extensively by tour companies.
Review 11:Lovely junior suite with two balconies overlooking the sea. Nice touch was the welcome bowl of fresh fruit. Spacious well equipped and very clean room. Fridge in the room was very convenient. Very spacious bathroom.
Review 12:Wi-Fi reception was rubbish. Bed in room was most uncomfortable. Choice of food in restaurant was limited.
Review 13:The hotel itself and the decor was very impressive, and in an excellent location. All the staff were very pleasant.
Review 14:No hot water reported it fixed then no hot water again had to shave and shower in cold water lady on desk says let water run for 7 min (daft)
Review 15:Location scenery nice people
Review 16:There was nothing not to like about this hotel,it was very very clean, friendly and food was of a high standard and catered for all tastes.Rooms spacious and although we had a side sea view it was stunning especialy at dusk with the sun set view from our balcony.
Review 17:Nada! Nothing!
Review 18:What didn't we love!!! The location, practically on the beach, the room had everything we needed ( just be aware that hardly ANY hotels in Spain provide tea or coffee making facilities so we always bring our own). The mini bars are empty, which suits us as we never use them but the facility for a small fridge to keep drinks cool is a must! Breakfast is vast and varied and freshly cooked in front of you. The cafe do excellent toasted sandwiches (although only about 5 to choose from) with loads of garnish (and very reasonable). There are a wide selection of bars and restaurants along the seafront and all the ones we visited gave free tapas with each drink purchased. Fresh towels, room cleaned daily. Phone in our room not working on arrival but fixed within the hour. Will most definitely will return.
Review 19:it was very noisy in the evening, you could hear every toilet flush in that hotel
Review 20:the food was amazing, great variety for breakfast and dinner. really good
Review 21:Internet slow and air cond sometimes wasn't cool enough.
Review 22:The Staff was great and very friendly. I stayed in room 505 absolutely awesome for a 3 Star hotel. The views were magnificent.
Review 23:Buffet in the evening could have been better but with care you could find yourself a four course meal. Nothing really to dislike about it but couldn't say it was great either.
Review 24:Great location and clean. Staff friendly. Great place full of spanish holidaymakers. Not a greasy spoon in sight. Great views from the 10th floor terrace.
Review 25:The bed was too soft. Room was tight for space ( front facing room)and a bit dated. The breakfast room even though it was very big felt claustrophobic due to the lack of windows or natural light. Maybe it was the time of year (early June) but it felt like an old folks home!
Review 26:the view from the room and close proximity to the beach
Review 27:Lack of entertainment, and little English spoken by staff. TV channels could include some English speaking channels.
Review 28:Our room (no 903). Excellent sized room/balcony, with terrific views over beach/bay.
Review 29:Wifi had to stand by the room door to be able to get it, and sometimes outside the room "Room 409"
Review 30:Friendly Staff, Good Breakfast choice & Location. could not be closer to the beach
Review 31:Would have liked the swimming-pool to be open and accessible later than 18:00. Since it is well heated, one could have enjoyed a swim as late as 19:00, just before dinner.
Review 32:Hassle-free stay, in late March 2015. Staff were efficient and friendly; and room service was excellent.
Review 33:Long queues for the elevator (10-15 mins). Buffet food with many varieties, but exactly the same taste, not child-friendly food. No play facilities for children, no training centre
Review 34:Very friendly staff. Great location
Review 35:The restaurant where they serve breakfast; at floor -1, below ground with no windows. Felt like a big noisy school canteen.
Review 36:Big spacious room, balcony with an excellent seaview facing the sea, Small fridge. Good faciliites. The breakfast included in the room rate was hearty and had a nice selection of foods..
Review 37:Disadvantages: No safety box in room, no tea/coffee making facilities and surprisingly no room service. You have to pay extra for freshly squeezed juice. Pillows a bit on the hard side.
Review 38:We booked a junior suite (room nr 405) and it was well worth the extra expense. Nice bubble bath, Jacuzzi type, with a sea view, large balcony also facing the sea. The room was spacious and clean, two flat-screen television sets, fridge – and a nice touch was the welcoming hamper with fruit and cakes. The room was very quiet: only the soothing sound of waves rolling onto the shore. Location excellent: right at the beach, obviously, and a short walk to everything the town has to offer. The breakfast buffet is well worth the price: hot and cold dishes, fresh fruit. But you have to pay extra for freshly squeezed juice. However, they make you an omelette to order at no additional cost.
Review 39:Nothing bad all good
Review 40:Before we arrived we upgraded to a double room with full sea view. When we arrived other members of our party were in a twin rm with partial sea view, in our opinion they were much bigger and nicer rms so we asked reception if we could change, they were so helpful nothing was too much trouble and we moved within a couple of hours which made our stay even more enjoyable. We have family living in Almunacar so will definatley be staying at the Helios again.
Review 41:There was an overpowering smell of detergent/perfume which would not leave the room even with the balcony door open.
Review 42:Almost everything. The location was wonderful, we had a balcony facing the sea and a comfortable spacious room. The breakfast buffet was excellent, as was the bar.
Review 43:Breakfast is not quite up to scratch as you have to wait for the hot food and that leads to queueing. However lots of nationalities in the hotel so they have to offer a wide range of dishes; salad and cakes etc. Sometimes there were no potatoes except chips on offer, but the chips were always hot and freshly cooked.
Review 44:This hotel is easily four star, as it has everything. All they need is to upgrade the choice in the dining room, the actual food is good and well cooked. Large rooms and we had a lovely view, very comfortable bed. The most marvellous Christmas Eve Gala dinner, we usually avoid these but it was great. Staff flew about and everything was hot and lots of wine included.
Review 45:We booked this hotel to enjoy there heated swimming pools. The day after we arrived, we ask the staff were to find the pool and they told us that the swimming pool is "under construction" we pay well to stay at this hotel and the only reason we went to Hellios was the swimming pool. The room was old and wallpaper fell down on us in the shower. We will never go back to this hotel :-(
Review 46:Nothing for sure. But the dining room had no windows to the outside world (semi basement), and we would probably have chosen not to eat there regularly on a longer visit (although the food at breakfast was vg).
Review 47:Just about everything, although we were only there for two nights and only had B&B. In particular our room was spacious, well appointed and clean, and the sea view across the bay was great.
Review 48:Clients and entertainment bit old for younger people, but perfect for pensioners. The pool is definitely unusable for older people who inevitably have movement problems or anyone with a disability.
Review 49:Food, location, on site parking (although uncovered and pricy), free wifi (although unfortunately not in rooms), nice staff.
Review 50:Pool is very small for the size of the hotel thou the sea is literally on the other side of the road. Breakfast was chaotic and whilst a good selection I thought the actual food quality (in particular the English style breakfast) was of average standard
Review 51:Great location. Very comfortable and modern room. Was more like 4*
Review 52:The coffee at breakfast was abhorrent. The guy working the main terrace cafe was lazy and rude, giving preferential treatment to Spaniards and I speak fluent Spanish. The rooftop terrace bar (the nicest part of the hotel) was advertised as opening at 8 p.m. But it opened when they felt like it, maybe at 10 p.m. Don't plan your evening around it. Lots of large, pushy, rude old people who were there for two or three weeks at a time. We felt like we were crashing their party.
Review 53:Location right across from the beach. Breakfast buffet was plentiful, fresh and tasty. Very clean room and lovely friendly chambermaids.
Review 54:The restaurant was a bit busy at times (no wonder, see '+'). The advertised 'partial sea view' is really partial, the room description on the booking site would benefit from a photo/details of what is meant by 'partial view'. Yet the above downsides do not affect the overall impression of our stay, which was splendid.
Review 55:One of the best hotels we've ever been staying in, I have no idea why they only have 3 stars. The staff was really welcoming and friendly, the room was quite big and comfy, and the facilities included everything one would expect from a family sea holiday hotel and even a little more. The restaurant (which is of a buffet type) was fab - normally we prefer not to eat at hotels, tasting local cuisine at small independent restaurants, but here we just couldn't resist to have all our meals at the hotel. The adult swimming pool is of good proportions, convenient both for adults and kids. A beach is right opposite the hotel, just 2-3 minutes walk, and there is a good selection of shops/restaurants/heladerias nearby. There is also a large underground parking facility and some on-street parking bays next to the hotel. A really great overall experience.
Review 56:The buffet was not at all worth the money we played for it.
Review 57:The hotel was separated from the beach with some 50 meters, so the views from the rooms is amazing and the walk to the beach is extremely short. The hotel lies very close to the boardwalk as well so it's surrounded by restaurants and small shops. Personnel was helpful but not in any major way, the rooms were big enough to spread your things around it, with a balcony. The rooftop is worth at least one visit each night you stay there. The view is magnificent over the beach and the mountains. They serve great sangria as well. About the food.. There is a breakfast buffet, one for lunch and one for dinner. The comfortable way is of course to pay extra and have at least two of the three, but if it's not that important, DON'T pay for the food. It's extremely tasteless, very poor buffet, looks delicious but tastes nothing, the breakfast is okay but the dinner was a huge disappointment.
Review 58:The staff made us feel at home. The hotel itself was very homely.
Review 59:The beds were VERY hard.
Review 60:No wifi in one room and in the other one there was a bad smell because of bathroom
Review 61:Nothing.
Review 62:Room was excellent, service very good, breakfast delicious, the town itself clean, calm and really wonderful.
Review 63:Full of OAPs big mistake to book this Hotel at this time .Food poor presumably for OAPs.
Review 64:position
Review 65:Sometimes I had to wait long enough the elevator.
Review 66:Location, view and in the evening drinking wine on the balcony.
Review 67:No hot water! Poor WiFi!
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:Everything
Review 70:Tea making facilitie in bedroom
Review 71:the buffet type food service was good
Review 72:Some ant was walking on the floor...
Review 73:Good resort type location and good cost performance.
Review 74:Pool extremely small for the size of the hotel
Review 75:Hotel close to the beach
Review 76:Stayed in the junior deluxe suite, and it was an amazing room with an amazing view!
Review 77:everything about yhe hotel
Review 78:Restaurant in basement and very noisy
Review 79:Nice large room, good view of the sea.
Review 80:Wi if a bit slow on the eighth floor
Review 81:The staff and the selection and quality of the food
Review 82:Lack of sun shades by pool and roof terraces Poor lighting in bathrooms
Review 83:Location, dinning room staff amazing and over stretched
Review 84:The buffet style restaurant was too anonymous
Review 85:The help & support given by the assistant hotel director was exemplary.
Review 86:Excellent location, great size room with large balcony overlooking the promenade and beach.
Review 87:Sea view poor.Room decoration poor, shower ceiling render fell down.No apologies had to ask for another room.
Review 88:Location of hotel
Review 89:Parking could be slightly difficult in the high season
Review 90:Staff very obliging, room large and very clean. Buffet food ok.
Review 91:nothing
Review 92:everthing
Review 93:everything more than we expected, in old Spain with 21St. centry.
Review 94:Room with sea view, very clean. Good meal choices for the price and excellent breakfasts. Pleasant hotel overall.
Review 95:The bedroom lighting was poor
Review 96:Excellent location on the Playa
Review 97:The breakfast area downstairs was too crowded.
Review 98:Not enough info at hotel regarding Surrounding area and Almunecar itself
Review 99:Location closeness to the beach
Review 100:a bit noisey at night on the streets, but thats not the fault of the hotel...
Review 101:Everything about this hotel was great, will defo be going back....
Review 102:Great location, charming hotel with excellent value for money.
Review 103:Lack of activities for the younger generation
Review 104:The choice at breakfast, the location, the front of office staff
Review 105:Furniture on balcony very dirty and the floors on balcony and the room were dirty.
Review 106:Hotel was average and acceptable for the price paid.
Review 107:Loved the roof terrace
Review 108:Small rooms and bed.
Review 109:The location, view and friendliness of staff.
Review 110:There was no private parking at the Hotel but plenty of on-street parking close by. This might prove more of a problem in high season.
Review 111:The location was excellent as was the food and the service. We paid slightly more for a sea facing room which had a large private terrace with 2 chairs, a table and 2 sunbeds. Well worth the additional cost. The facilities, which included a Spa, seating and large sun bathing area on the top floor, were really very good for a Hotel which actually describes itself as a 3*.
Review 112:Don't expect the facilities and trappings of a 5 star and you'll be fine. Almunecar is not a town for the young and lively, better for mature people, sightseeing in the region and families.
Review 113:Booked this for my parents. Lots of senior holidaymakers there and my parents loved it. I think it's only a (good) 3 star hotel but very pleasant. If you can, get a room with a large terrace and a frontal view. Half board worth the money.
Review 114:Found beds very uncomfortable. Hard pillows. Food? Well, breakfasts ok but would not recommend dinners. |Very small selection and very bland:-( Over wise a good hotel.
Review 115:Excellent location. Good value for money.
Review 116:The ramp outside the hotel was too steep to push a wheelchair bound person up. I found the bed a bit hard
Review 117:The room and the food were excellent, the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Review 118:Bed was hard. Live music was somewhat monotonous, but Spanish guests enjoyed it.
Review 119:Warm welcome from experienced staff, lovely big room, newly refurbished. Food was excellent, not a huge choice but all well prepared and hot meals were hot. Lovely outside terrace bar. Nice part of town. Parked free on the street (not available in July/Aug). Room kept cool and quiet at night, with window open .
Review 120:Fantastic location right on the beach. Free parking on the streets around the hotel. Comfortable rooms with space enough for 2. Bathroom with shower. We had a room facing the see so we had a wonderful view over the beach. Breakfast was rather busy, but the hotel staff was very efficient so ther was always a table to sit at.
Review 121:The service in the restaurant was excellent, even though it was very busy. In addition the buffet had a wide selection of choices. the bedroom had a fantastic seafront view and was spotlessly clean.
Review 122:the reception could have given us the rooms on the sunny side, would have helped in February, the cold wind got through the sliding doors of the balcony,
Review 123:,spacious room, the sun deck on the 10th floor with jacuzzi, deck chairs and great view, excellent breakfast buffet, free parking, close to the beach
Review 124:I thought from the literature that there was an indoor swimming pool but it was outside just covered. I did not use the pool
Review 125:Lovely big room en suite with a sea view, comfortable beds and bathroom, very clean Friendly staff
Review 126:Our walking programme started in Nerja at 9.30am. Fortunately we had a car and could make the rendezvous time. This would not have been possible using local transport. From literature, we imagined the indoor swimming pool to be larger than it was.
Review 127:Other than the two points opposite, everything.
Review 128:The lifts. (But didn´t do so much to us - we had healty exercises on the staircases)
Review 129:Good value for a 3 star hotell. Helpsam and efficient staff. Breakfast was good. Location perfect. Easy to park the car.
Review 130:The food There was a large variety but breakfast cooked early and left to go cold try eating stone cold pancake. dinner, soup good but the popular dishes not replenished so don't be more than 10 mins late
Review 131:The hotel is small and intimate in a wonderful position, get a balcony room for the view, very clean, and well maintained . Only a short walk along a nice promenade to shops and tapas bars
The Fine Print
Please note half-board includes breakfast and dinner.
