Reviews for Auberge De Jeunesse

Review 1:Difficult to find reception. Bad sound insulation between rooms. Personal speaks only French. In spite of the fact hot water was out of order for several days there was no warning before coming and no price reduction.

Review 2:Peaceful place. Room was rather spacious. Parking.

Review 3:It was about 8 or 9km out of Orleans, but on the bright side there is a bike path the entire way from the hostel to downtown. Also the hot water was not working.

Review 4:The woman working there was very kind and helpful, spoke pretty good english and went out of her way to answer all of my questions. The place was very unique, room was clean, and breakfast was quite decent. They also have a locked bike storage shed.

Review 5:The beds were small, in poor condition and creaked very loudly. The rooms were very hot but had no fans. The showers were in poor condition and the hot water was off for the whole month.

Review 6:The hostel is in a university football stadium which is fairly unusual and impressive.

Review 7:Located in football stadium, so in a time of a match it must be noisy.

Review 8:Near to a university campus and to a tram station to center of Orleans. If you have booked your stay, then keys are accessible even when there is no personal on reception (you have pins to a door and a to a key box).

Review 9:We ended up in a room at the very front of the hall, and our room was very noisy from the people in the stairwell / game area.

Review 10:The location was convenient and the price was very low.

Review 11:Poor pre-arrival communication, no code sent for opening doors.

Review 12:Inside the stadium! Unbeatable for soccer fans! Tennis table and table soccer in excellent standing, great fun!

Review 13:The place was quite hard to find as it is hidden inside the sports stadium. It was also quite far from the centre so you probably will have to take the tram. The breakfast is nothing fancy, just some cereal and bread.

Review 14:The place was clean and had all the necessities. Each room had it's own toilet and shower and they were spacious and clean aswell. There was a big locker for each guest which you can close with a padlock. If you don't own your own padlock you can borrow one from the reception (you need to pay a 5 euro deposit though).

Review 15:The location is a bit far out (though admittedly I was on bicycle, so it might have just seemed this way). There is not much in the way of nearby restaurants or amenities. Bunk beds were fine for me, but could be off-putting for some...

Review 16:The breakfast was decent and the rooms were clean. There was a small games area which would be nice in the busier season. The staff were very pleasant and helpful - staying late at reception to welcome me, and providing me with a space to lock up my bike. It's dormitory style, but overall good value for money when traveling on a budget.

Review 17:We booked one night as a stop-over for our young family. We did not even stay for that one night. The description of it being "ideal affordable accommodation" is misleading. The general state of the accommodation was dirty & unmaintained. The room was disgusting with damage & filth everywhere. Broken ceiling tiles, chewing gum on the floors, holes in the walls, filth in every crevice. The bathroom was even more unpalatable, dirty & vile. You have to pay upfront. When we complained & requested a refund all we were offered was an equally bad room. Even if you can stomach the room, it is also miles from the city centre & in a grey, dismal area. Fortunately we found an alternative nearby & stayed there. We are used to "basic" accommodation in the UK (PGL), which is basic, but it is also clean & well maintained. This is not. We recommend you avoid at all costs....

Review 18:Told 2 family rooms + connecting bathroom: implied private but sharing with a man, did not have bedding for all beds, exposed fibre-glass above bed where ceiling panel broken and big hole in door, noisy, shabby, 133 Euros for 7 (5 children) poor value.

Review 19:Friendly staff and interesting location at University football stadium, clean bedding. Breakfast was fine and Orleans was beautiful.

Review 20:there aren't any towels but I think it's normal in a auberge de jeunesse, just to let you know

Review 21:a very good service for the price we paid, kind people and comfortable bed, good breakfast

Review 22:The 'walls' in between rooms are some kind of cardboard that don't even reach the ceiling, so everyone heard every single thing. It was no fun trying to keep our kids completely quiet and not moving after they had been on the car all day.

Review 23:The kids loved the fact that it was in a soccer stadium, there was parking, and it was cheap.

Review 24:Being blocked in, in the carpark by a football player. Club staff weer very helpful in finding the player who was in a training session.

Review 25:Being in a stadium Ample parking Excellent WIFI Breakfast Helpfull staff.

Review 26:Building dated and in poor state of repair. Access via stairs. Bike lock up was away from building in an old porta cabin. Shops and restaurants in local area limited at best

Review 27:Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast good

Review 28:The main objection was the ablution and toilet facilities. Firstly they were shared with an adjacent room through separate doors. This severely restricted access. I would not have used the shower had I been the sole user. The toilet resembled something in the back yard of a pub in the 1950s. There were 46 steps to get to the accommodation level. We had to negotiate our way past a number of what I assume to be local children who were larking around, smoking and making quite a degree of noise, Bearing in mind that my wife suffers from lung cancer and has breathing difficulties, suffers from a hip problem it would have been nice to have been warned of these severe drawbacks. Please bear in mind that both of us are well into our seventies and and it was all my wife could cope with to get herself up and down then the steps. Taking into account that we had to go out for a meal in the evening my wife had to traverse the steps no less than four times whilst I had to go each way eight times. I should like to point out that it was less than four weeks since I had undergone heart surgery.

Review 29:Breakfast was very good albeit in a factory style canteen Bed was comfortable. Bed linen was supplied although we had to make up the beds.

Review 30:The main thing you should understand before booking it is that it is NOT a hostel it is just a rooms for sportsman to rest while their training, in the outskirts of Orleans near the local football stadium. It’ll take you about 40 minutes to get there from the railway station, and also about a half of this time to find this place and to believe that it is the place you were actually looking for. All comforts is like you’ll expect for the sportsmen’s dorms: plain metal beds, plain lockers. Toilet and bathroom are shared with the neighbors, and (as for me its just terrible, but maybe someone ‘ll like it, “It’s Sparta, baby!” ha-ha) shared bathroom without doors - wanna get a shower - ok, but all your friends and neighbors can watch you. Actually for this cost you can find some small hotel in the center of Orleans.

Review 31:The only thing we liked is that you actually live on the football stadium - its kind of romantic...

Review 32:The fact that you can join a training from the players. Great experience.

Review 33:Someone entered the room during the night. Not sure who or why.

Review 34:Access

Review 35:Helpfulness of people we met and management.

Review 36:Reception, room access, heat !

Review 37:The dorm size was ok.

Review 38:Friendly welcome and great budget option for a family. Generous simple breakfast.

Review 39:I was happy to learn there was on-site bike storage.

Review 40:did not realise it was a youth hostel. Wifi was poor and out the following day

Review 41:Helpful staff

Review 42:Dorm room experience near University. A city hostel, in the local Football stadium. Most guests were young and it was my first hostel experience.

Review 43:Quite hard to find and away from the city centre. The area outside the campus is not really nice.

Review 44:Cheap and unusual location

Review 45:No towels and had to make your own bed

Review 46:The price, if you are looking for somewhere to sleep it's fine if your looking for frills don't stay

Review 47:Value for money, security and services. Good access to City by tram. Parc Floral within short walk is wonderful.

Review 48:The bed!!! And they were very kind and helpful even with my late arrival!! Thank you, i had a great night and breakfast!!

Review 49:-no public kitchen -difficult to find in the evening

Review 50:-very open and friendly staff! -quiet location -parking available

Review 51:Nothing

Review 52:it was far away from the city centre

Review 53:the wiew of the football camp in the morning, the kindness of the staff, the towel was for free,

Review 54:Cold room, no hot water

Review 55:It is under the stands of a football stadium!!

Review 56:the price is very expensive for this area and service

Review 57:Any things

Review 58:Big hole in toilet door.

Review 59:Good choice for budget.

Review 60:No wifi.

Review 61:Big rooms, clean, cheap.

Review 62:Like in old time when i was student...

Review 63:Cheap basic accommodation good breakfast friendly staff. Tram station nearby therefore easy access to city.

Review 64:A bit difficult to find the main entrance as it is in a football stadium on a university campus.

Review 65:Great hostel and value for money. Shared toilet and shower were no issue to us. Worked out for us very well.

Review 66:Being locked out of the hostel. The lemon tea out of the machine

Review 67:It being in a football stadium, very good breakfast including surprisingly good coffee

Review 68:The bathroom shared both by men and women guests was perfectly clean, but the shower area was very small, without any obscuring barrier or hooks to hang things on. Because of this, it was impossible to take a shower without potentially exposing oneself to the opposite sex, and also water from the shower could get on your clothes. If they remedied this issue, the facility would've been an A+ from this traveler's perspective. Though the facilities were clean and accommodating, the hostel was a bit difficult to find if you didn't know you were looking for a place situated INSIDE a sports complex. That being said, once found, it was relatively easy to navigate through a very pretty wooded campus area to the nearby tram and bus.

Review 69:The staff was really incredibly accommodating. I was coming into town for a new job, and Christel, who was working at the desk, not only gave me advice as to where i might look for an apartment, but she then set me up closer to the centre-ville so i could look more easily. the other staff were also very attentive and kind.

Review 70:Arrived late, in the dark, none of the security gates or the Auberge were locked and it felt very unsafe. It probably wasn't but we were worried about the car in the car park as we had all our camping gear in it. Booked twin and double room and were given two rooms each with 2 bunk beds. Pillows were lumpy, mattresses looked a bit dirty (you make your own bed so you can see the mattress) and no towels provided.

Review 71:Rooms were clean, functional and breakfast overlooking Orleans football stadium was something a bit different. Price was same as motels but it included breakfast, shame you had to make the beds and towels not provided.

Review 72:Expensive as this is low budget style accommodation. No good restaurants nearby. Parking was difficult. Other residents were noisy and did not allow us to sleep.

Review 73:Plenty of space in the room. Useful to have connecting door with children's room. Good breakfast.

Review 74:The shared bathroom. We didn't know it was shared until somebody was taking a shower. We had left all our belongings on there and left the door open so our children could get to the bathroom through the night.

Review 75:My boys loved the fact it was within a football stadium and that it had table tennis and table football free on site.

Review 76:- Old and dirty rooms, doors damaged - No private bathroom (not mentioned on site), no towels - Broken shower - Fence and doors not closen at night - Kitchen/Breakfast room closed before opening hours (7.15h)

Review 77:The maintenance was very poor. The painting fell off the walls, the ceiling was falling appart. The most we did not like was that the bathroom was shared with the neighboors and that they could not be locked out when using the bathroom.(When showering they could just walk in)

Review 78:Not much. The fact that it was situated in a soccer-stadium was nice.

Review 79:The facilities. As an example the bathroom was shared between 2 rooms and the isolation was very poor. It was hard to sleep at night I agree it was an Auberge but was offered by booking.com as a "normal" hotel. I found it expansive for the offered comfort

Review 80:The hotel was disgusting. I dont think you can even call that as hotel. It was more like a hostel then hotel. The rooms were very very dirty, no towels in the room. The beds were terrible! Free breakfat was a joke. Piece of bread and jam, that was your only choice and you can eat that standing as there was no space to sit.

Review 81:- Unexpectedly, my room was in a nearby University residence, which meant that I had to walk to the Auberge for breakfast in the morning and that I couldn't have any wifi connection in my room (wireless internet connection is available only inside the Auberge; this was quite annoying). - In the University residence where I was the showers weren't very confortable. - I happened to be in a room where a smoker must have lived, because the room had un unpleasant cigarette smell (but of course, the Auberge manager could not be aware of it, and I suppose the the rest of the rooms didn't smell that way).

Review 82:- Even thought the Auberge was quite far from the center (35 minutes by tramway from the railway station), I appreciated the location, because I needed to be in the campus area.

Review 83:If you're planning to spend time in Orleans, then it's a terrible location. The area is not particularly pleasant either...

Review 84:Staff were friendly and accommodating.

Review 85:Language barrier made it a little difficult. The beds/pillows notthe most comfortable. The shower had nowhere for you to change/dryyourself as it was a shared bathroom and someone could easily come in.Our room's floors were filthy. The cleaner barged into our roomimmediately after knocking which we thought was very rude we could havebeen asleep. It is located as like the dorm rooms in the stands of thesoccer ground and is quite far out of Orleans if that will bother you.

Review 86:Good accessibility to the tram line into Orleans. Bathrooms were clean, the room was set up well with good shades blocking out sun. Breakfastwas sufficient. Wifi worked well. Security and door code were good.

Review 87:Parking-Lack of spaceFlights of stairs No lift available Single beds were bunks which had to be made No facilities ie Kettle, Cups, Towels Shared Washing and Toilet room with adjoining room Inadequate information on website-not saying this was a youth hostel that was incorperated into the stadium. Difficulty in finding

Review 88:Security - someone walked into my (locked) room, asking if he could usethe shower! Shared ensuite with adjacent room. Poor lighting in room.Plastic covered matress, rather worn. Noise from next room preventedsleep until they had gone to sleep. Secure parking was not secure, soyou do not neeed the entry code

Review 89:Friendly reception. They sent in advance all the information you neededto find the place. Breakfast was good.

Review 90:Really a sporting team bunk room in lower part of football grandstand .just a notch better than camping, no tv ,vinyl covered matress to bunk beds, make your own bed, no towel or soap, noisy between rooms

Review 91:not much, good hot water, fair breakfast.great view of footy if it is on

Review 92:It is quite far from the centre of Orleans (even if it is easy to get there on the tram) and few shops or restaurants in that area.

Review 93:The staff where very helpful when I had some problems with my bike, and accomodating when I needed to arrive after the reception closed.

Review 94:Unfortunately, it is 30 min by tram to go to the city center.

Review 95:Great service staff, rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Breakfast is very good (juice, cereals, baguette, milk, coffe, tea..., and as much as you want).

Review 96:The only problem was the old-fashioned bunk-bed, which made so much ofnoise whenever one of the two shifted his position during sleep.

Review 97:First of all, the price. Then, although the walls were paper-thin andone could hear what was going on in all the other rooms and in thecorridors, (I was lucky to find that) the other guest respected thesilence policy between 22 and 7, so it was convenient.

Review 98:I felt like in an asylum with rubber matrasses and a rubber floor. Absolutely no appealing atmospheare.

Review 99:free parking

Review 100:smelly; grubby; unpleasant atmosphere

Review 101:Good clean linen. Compact but tidy rooms

Review 102:Quite simple, small breakfast, but clean comfortable and friendly staff

Review 103:Ok but we needed a cot for the baby x

Review 104:Great cheap stopover on route through France including Breakfast .

Review 105:the chocolate spread

Review 106:Too noisy, can't fall asleep when there are others talking in another room.

Review 107:The price is reasonable, with free Wifi connections.

Review 108:The room was dark, there is no enough light.

Review 109:A very friendly staff, and the price is reasonably good.
