Reviews for Westminster Hotel & Spa

Review 1:Unfortunately we were unable to use the pool, the brochure was unclear, saying pool was free for 2 hours but when inquired was told there was a steep charge. We only had a standard room so I think this was the criteria.

Review 2:The room had a wonderful view of the promenade. The decor of the hotel was beautiful.

Review 3:Only minor things , cosmetic really . -need a shelf in the shower recess to place shampoo , soap instead of on the floor . - need a magnifying mirror in the bathroom .

Review 4:The location was great ,the view outstanding ,the staff were very helpful and the room was one of the best in stayed in and very clean . Great hotel. We really enjoyed staying in this hotel with our sons visiting from Australia. Would highly recommend Westminster to anyone . My wife is originally from Nice ,and the hotel was in such a fantastic location we walked everywhere. We will defenatly come back.

Review 5:Room a little tired. Shower head was faulty, reported to hotel on second morning, but nothing was done during the rest of our 5 day stay. Hotel Staff, some seemed to lack the levels of service you should expect from this 4.5 star rated hotel.

Review 6:Great location Food in hotel was excellent

Review 7:Location excellent, sea view delightful, new bar area absolutely heavenly, it was always our first choice for a trip to Nice, now it's essential! Can't comment on the food or spa as tried neither, but this is still our number spot to stay

Review 8:Didn't like the traffic! Noise all night kept us awake. We had to move to an (inferior) room at the back of the building to get some sleep. Sadly, hotel 'unable' to provide a refund or an alternative. If you are a light sleeper don't bother paying extra for a sea view room.

Review 9:Good spot right across the road from the sea. Walking distance to centre, shopping, restaurants.

Review 10:The noise from street was a bit loud on second night.

Review 11:The staff were most helpful. Going to the spa was a delightful, relaxing experience! Location very central.

Review 12:Tea making facilities in the room would have been appreciated for UK/Australian visitors.

Review 13:The staff have been helpful and welcoming, the beautiful period building is being modernised yet retaining its charm and the accommodation very clean and comfortable.

Review 14:it would have been nice if there was a pool or spa area to relax in.

Review 15:the location was great, we had an amazing room over looking the sea. Even thought the hotel was under construction you wouldn't really notice, there was a lot of noise and everything was really clean.

Review 16:They promised that their Spa will be opened (what was main criteria for choosing exactly this hotel), but the renovation was not over yet. They did not offer any compensation for this. Actually, the whole hotel is under reconstruction and it's a bit messy at the moment.

Review 17:Location is superb, in the middle of Promenade Anglais. Seeview room has really wonderful view (although very noisy with windows open). The stuff is friendly and helpful.

Review 18:The old hotel was classy BUT was a building site at the entrance??

Review 19:The location was excellent to headf into activities on the prom or old town area /restaurants

Review 20:The renovation was a problem. When it will be over the quality and comfort will be back there.

Review 21:Location was good and so was the room we received after having a noisy one the first three days of our stay.

Review 22:I didn't like that we'd sent a mail to say our stay was the last night of our honeymoon and so we were hoping this would have been acknowledged in some way, which it wasn't. The view was absolutely amazing and the setting was lovely but the room was really small and we had been expecting something bigger.

Review 23:The location was superb and the staff were lovely.

Review 24:Horrible service, room was flooded and they changed room without informing us and offering breakfast as complimentary compensation. This hotel is a disgrace with incompetent staff, stay away.

Review 25:The location, sea view

Review 26:Being refurbished so building works ongoing. The front is covered in temporary hoarding. Interior could do with some redecorating. There is no hotel beach, and the neighbouring beach charges €25 per day.

Review 27:Great location, especially with the sea view room.

Review 28:Normal hotel, nothing original at all. If you go for business, then fine. If you come to French Riviera to enjoy vacation, choose other option.

Review 29:Good location.

Review 30:It smelled like unfresh air. Even in the second room that we got after the first one just smelled like someone hs smikes in there. Aweful. The interieur is old and not that comfortable. Value for money was ok but not more. I would stay there again

Review 31:Greatly located to the beach and close to the old town. 10min walking distance at most

Review 32:Repairs at the entrance - hope the project will finish soon to make the front entrance more pleasant

Review 33:Friendly staff, accommodating, very reliable and precise information when needed

Review 34:The worst junior suite we had in my life. We booked with my wife junior suite with see view for weekend break this nice hotel. We received junior suite without any sitting are (if two different chairs were not transformed sofas) and the balcony was right above the main entrance on first floor. You could sit there only if you wanted to great every hotel visitor :) really bad experience.

Review 35:Great location and new refurbished lobby and restaurant. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 36:Porters were not there at curb to pick up luggage. Once in hotel however, one porter in particular was very helpful, giving us directions etc. Had to carry up steps. But that may have been due to ongoing construction. Will be beautiful when completed.

Review 37:Wonderful location, right on ocean, near to Old town, and yet very quiet.

Review 38:Traffic noise. However, you have to compromise given the location on the seafront. You should be aware you will get little sleep. Government should ban scooters and bikes after 11am thru 6am and this place would be paradise. Lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room given the "Luxury Rating",,,,,

Review 39:Hotel Location was very good and provided good access to buses and Old Town. Excellent Veranda's for breakfast and drinks with Stunning views. Junior Suite was well presented.

Review 40:Misleading information at booking.com made us think that the private beach would be free of charge for Westminster hotel customers. We were surprised to hear it was 25 euros extra. The money we paid for the hotel should have covered the beach.

Review 41:I chose this hotel as a birthday gift to my girlfriend and what a perfect choice. We loved the hotel. It was comfy. Scenery was perfect. Well designed rooms. Staff was very helpful. Especially Claire at the front desk.

Review 42:Had meal in restaurant one night of stay, worst meal of our stay in Nice, Both meal were disappointing, tough meat, minute portions. Starters and desserts poor too.

Review 43:Location

Review 44:- There is no parking, you need to park your car outside the hotel facilities (it's not convenient)- The staff is not proactive. If you have a pregnant wife and a baby, they must 'beg' for help otherwise no one will help them to carry anything - Restaurant: The waiter was unpleasant and during the dinner time he told us they were full although it was 21:30 there were SEVERAL empty tables. We returned less than 1h later and there were more available tables. I'm still waiting hotel's explanation if there was some discrimination. DON'T GO THERE, excellent options around

Review 45:Only the view and the receptionist was nice

Review 46:Our room was one with no sea view and therefore it was a bit dark! It could have been better if the hotel was offering a car park or a discount at the public parking.

Review 47:The location of the hotel is perfect, right on the main street (Promenade des anglais). It is walking distance to all activities (restaurants, old town, beach, etc..)

Review 48:Hotel still undergoes reconstruction - this wasn't made clear at the time of the booking.

Review 49:Excellent location opposite the very good "Blue Beach"

Review 50:Hotel is being refurbished so it looks like a building site at the entrance. There were no towels in our room when we arrived so we had to ask for them. One of the armchairs in the bedroom had a broken foot.

Review 51:Location and breakfast.

Review 52:Very disappointed with temporary street access, location of reception and renovation works in progress. Offer of a future discount to compensate renovation works should have been made now, not for a future stay. No rails for hanging bath towels or line for hanging clothes. Friendly staff but not trained properly - management issue.

Review 53:Location, ocean views, historical building.

Review 54:I had a perfect trip around nice, and I really owe to the staffs. they are so kind and helpful. The view was fabulous, either. The construction was almost over and the restaurant reopened during the stay.

Review 55:Shameless price, ongoing renovation that was unbecoming for the looks of the hotell, entrance and the normally so beautiful hall.

Review 56:Very polite and friendly staff that made us feel good and made it comfortable for us in a personal way. The hotell is perfectly situated just at the Promenade des Anglais, with a beautiful seeview from a small but "sittable" balcony. Full breakfast was wounderful and dinner good but not perfect.

Review 57:The hotel main door was under renovation, it is hard to find the entrance, the hotel facility was very old.

Review 58:The hotel location is good with right ocean view, a public car parking was just beside the hotel.

Review 59:As of July 2015 there are ongoing noisy renovations that will not be finished this year. Makes the entrance to the hotel look awful. No coffee or tea making facilities in the rooms so I bought a kettle. Breakfast at 20 Euros is overpriced so I used a café next door. No shower curtain in the bathroom.

Review 60:Fabulous location, extremely friendly and helpful (young) staff - A+. The hotel is comfortable but I do not think it is 4-star

Review 61:The hotel is under construction and the noise is absolutely unbearable - from 8am to 18pm.We were on the first floor and one of the workes outside was almost in our room. Also, the bathroom door does not close but nobody payes attention. The hotel must offer dicounts for the inconvenience they cause to customers. Very expensive hotel in comparison to value of money.

Review 62:The location and view.

Review 63:A pity about the renovations which are ongoing at the moment - really noisy during the day especially as we were on the first floor.

Review 64:Fabulous location and excellent value for money.

Review 65:Hotel renovation still ongoing causing minor disruption. Breakfast can be improved. Tea/ coffee making facilities in room are lacking.

Review 66:Excellent location, beautiful interior and spacious and comfortable rooms. Also, staff were extremely helpful and cooperative. Private beach reasonably priced compared to similar surrounding ones with welcoming staff.

Review 67:No rooms available at our arrival. as a result we had to change our selves in the toilets, which were dirty and very old fashioned, the door couldn't be locked! The hotel was under renovation, despite the noise and the dust, no hot water in the rooms! the following day no Wi-Fi available for more than 2 hours, let's say that this is really inconvenient when you have to travel for business purposes. Furthermore, we haven't been informed that the hotel was under renovation at time of booking, knowing that we have contacted the hotel by phone in addition to our booking by internet. The staff started to be helpful only after we start shouting. we understand they were in a very difficult situation but we make it clear this hotel is very badly driven by the direction.

Review 68:the location was great and the breakfast very good as well. The private beach (at your cost) was clean and the service was excellent.

Review 69:I don't wish to sound over critical, because it is a truly lovely hotel, but the decision to build a new spa in June is probably not the most customer friendly one that might be expected in a place of this quality.

Review 70:Friendly, young team of staff. Courtesy all round. Super view of the la Baie des Anges. Great coffee place on opposite corner.

Review 71:The hotel was undergoing renovations (however, this was made known at time of booking) so was a bit noisy during the day and couldn't sit out on the balcony. Having said that, when renovations are complete (July 2015??) the lobby, outside balcony areas and spa will looked wonderful. We had booked the junior suite, sea view room and it was in need of some freshening up, (paint, carpet) and there were no coffee/tea making facilities in room.

Review 72:The location is spectacular with a wonderful view of the sea.

Review 73:The hotel is under renovation. We didn't have any issues with noise but the front bar was blocked off. It would have been nice to had access to it since the property is right on the Promenade.

Review 74:Location was perfect!

Review 75:Staff attitudes, dangerous bath/ shower combination without hand grip, nowhere to hang washing (travellers need to wash at least smalls), chaos around building site

Review 76:Location , view

Review 77:The staff needs more training, breakfast is poor, and the Hotel should notify their clients upon booking that they are undertaking renovation

Review 78:Location is good

Review 79:TV system did not work properly. The staff were not kind after checkout and did not help the two women with the luggage, and this was not really appropriate for a hotel with such category

Review 80:Location, bedroom and breakfast

Review 81:We didn't know that the front was being renovated until the taxi pulled up outside. It was not possible to have a drink in the bar as it was relocated to the dining room and no chance to have a coffee sat outside in the sun.

Review 82:The view, the room and the helpful staff

Review 83:Renovations were noisy and meant to finish in April. Staff didn't offer to help us with our bags on departure. Bed small and very uncomfortable.

Review 84:Location of the hotel was great

Review 85:As written by other commentators, the hotel looked like a bomb site from the outside. If we had known the extent of the renovations going on, we probably would have gone elsewhere, but when we saw those comments, it was less than 7 days, so we could not cancel, even though we booked months ahead. On our receipt from Booking.com, there was a tiny comment about some renovations to the spa and the bar area, but we had no idea of the extent of this. There was a note at the lift asking us yo be understanding, but there was no apology from the checkin staff. I would expect a nice hotel to offer at the very least, a free drink, champagne, chocolates, flowers, breakfast or something to indicate that they cared about the experience of guests who chose this hotel for their holiday. Also, my comment about the photos of the planned new decor ..Awful!! How could they redesign the entrance to a belle epoque, traditional hotel in such a crass way. The style will be outdated before the work is finished. Vathroom was tiny. As with many hotels in france these days, staff assume that you cannot speak french, and even if you ask something in french, even if not perfect they reply in English. When in France, it would be nice to hear the local language sometimes, or we might as well stay anywhere. We went to have a look at the Negresco one evening, and staff in the foyer actually spoke french.

Review 86:Location is hard to beat if you are there to enjoy the beach and seaside of Nice, and not far to the restaurants etc. You can hire bikes from across the road and ride along a dedicated bikeway on the Pronenade des Anglais. The hotel has a nice old world ferling to its main dining salon and its traditional wide staircase. Staff were ok, especially the porters, but desk staff gave us some slightly inaccurate information about places to go and transport etc. Better visiting the tourist office a couple of blocks along. The standard room was comfortable although very small. Sea view was nice.

Review 87:The ground floor is still under renovation. Very disappointed when first seeing the hotel.

Review 88:The location is good, and I can see the sea view. Beautiful.

Review 89:Noice on ground floor because of big renovation. They advised it would be ready hopefully in few months.

Review 90:Location, staff, service , and friendly atmosphere.

Review 91:Nothing

Review 92:Stay at hotel for two nights. Although they are doing the refurnishment, but I still pretty enjoyed there. Literally, I did not hear any noise. The bed is comfortable, staff is friendly, room space is large.

Review 93:Terrace having work done, we'd have gone somewhere else if we had known as this trip was for husbands 50th birthday. Though when the terrace is finished it would be a hotel we would go back to

Review 94:Room was fantastic, sea and mountain view

Review 95:We booked this as a four star hotel and were advised that some renovation was underway and would be completed by 30 April. Well, is wasn’t! When we arrived in mid May quite extensive building work was far from completion and seems likely to go on for some weeks. Although our room, the reception and overall service met the standard of a four star hotel, other aspects certainly didn’t. There was no bar, cafe or lounge and only the most basic of lunch and dinner provision. The standardised French rating system for four stars indicates that the hotel ‘will have an assortment of onsite leisure and entertainment facilities including swimming pools, fitness centres, entertainment programs eg recreational team, heath and spa centres and a kids’ club – again, Hotel Westminster fell short. Because of the building work below us, we were subject to constant noise and electricity cuts created problems with WiFi access and the operation of the key cards. When we reported our disappointment with the facilities, we received only the mildest of apologies and certainly no compensation. If you are already booked into this hotel, we suggest you negotiate to have a full breakfast included, at the very least, or, as we should have done had we been informed that renovation was still underway, find another hotel. Nice is great but Hotel Westminster lets it down.

Review 96:On arrival we were greeted with colour bond fencing as renevations were under way (we were not notified this would be happening) as we liked the look of outdoor seating on the promenade that was shown on the website (this was not to be) the shower was non existent (only a hand shower in the bath) the balcony was very small and did not feel safe to sit on ( if you could fit)

Review 97:The position of the hotel and the view

Review 98:The Hotel is old and very noisy due to old windows. They do on inform guests that they are renovating, so we discover it just at our arrival.

Review 99:The Location is central, the Hotel is situated directly on the seafront. The bed was very confortable.

Review 100:Hotel never told us they are under major construction, builders in hotel, jack hammers in hotel from 7:30 am. Shower briken, lifts always occupied by construction workers.

Review 101:There was major work being carried out at the hotel frontage, the noise from 08:00in the morning was annoying, and there was a small desk which was the bar????. many of the other guests staying at the same time as myself and my wife were not happy that we were not informed of the major works being carried out at this hotel when we booked. The bathroom had cracked and rough repairs to the marble at the sink and bath. We could have stayed an the Royal Hotel for less monrey and better facilities. Dissapointed overall.

Review 102:The room was perfect

Review 103:Breakfast offer was €15 for full or €5 for express, would not pay €15 based on what was available

Review 104:Perfect location on waterfront, easy walking distance to train station, vars and restaurants

Review 105:Small bare room (for a 4* !!), with VERY tiny bathroom, hardly room to turn round, no shower curtain, nowhere to hang towel in bathroom, no soap dish. Renovation work going on was not clearly indicated when booking was made.

Review 106:Bed linen and towels good quality.

Review 107:Since this hotel is under construction, it's a little bit noisy and the hot water doesn't work Rly well.

Review 108:Best location give you nice view. Best staff with good attitude def worth a try.

Review 109:I liked the option of an "express breakfast" for 5 Euros, if you don't feel having the huge buffet for 20 Euros. Very pleasant stay alltogether

Review 110:The concierge lady who we dealt with when we arrived wasn't as friendly as she could have been. Very standoffish which wasn't very pleasant to handle.

Review 111:Very comfortable big beds, beautiful sea front views and it is a beautifully decorated hotel.

Review 112:The only negative comment I can make is that the hair-driers are pretty old, they could be replaced.

Review 113:The hotel is very central and the rooms have a lovely view of the sea. The staff is very helpful. We had zero problems during our stay.

Review 114:hotel is under reconstruction. As the rwsult many services including restaurant and room service do not exist. Why on earth this is not mentioned anywhere!? Very disappointing

Review 115:location only

Review 116:No one mentioned there was LOTS of construction happening to the hotel, which woke us early every morning. It is frustrating to anticipate lots of rest and sleeping in only to be woken at 7:00 every morning.

Review 117:The hotel is quite nice, with helpful staff and a good location. Amenities are good and the rooms are clean. We had a city view room which had lovely views over Nice, and there was no road noise.

Review 118:The beautiful building is being refurbished. OK brilliant but why leave it open and riddled with danger to customers. I paid £100 for a night in a building site. More fool me !!!!

Review 119:Leaving

Review 120:The welcome of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. And they were consistent throughout my stay' The comfort of my room and the situation of the Hotel. Thankyou to all the staff!

Review 121:No lounge area Would have liked tea and coffee making facility There was building works going on but we were on 4th floor so not too invasive Bar was just an extension of restaurant but we were told this will be improved .

Review 122:Room view Beds and pillows so comfortable .The staff were very helpful . Hotel location perfect .

Review 123:Pay attention to refill breakfast buffet

Review 124:Nice location on the Promenade des Anglais, large family room on the side road, great breakfast buffet, sweet upgrades for our go-together travellers

Review 125:Room was small

Review 126:Perfect location, excellent staff, lots to see and do nearby, found parking garage near too. Upon arrival I was offered a late check-out of 2PM.

Review 127:The room 520 was very well heated, but the bathroom - all in marble - cold. I think you should install a heating on the wall somewhere there, it would make sense.....

Review 128:Of course, the location is excellent. The comfort of the room too, plus nice heating. The hôtel has the charm of the "old days" and yet is modern. The help of the staff was very good and "na<tural". I hope to come back for a few nights.

Review 129:Because of renovation works some areas were closed, but this was compensated by a significant discount.

Review 130:Very good location and high standard of service. We profited from a very good discount because the hotel was partially undergoing renovation.

Review 131:No on-site parking. Old hotel with stained carpet, no shower curtain (no idea why and the toilet floor was all wet after shower), uncomfortable bed and no coffee/tea-making facility in the room. Not a 4-star hotel in the current standard.

Review 132:A free upgrade to sea view room and friendly staff. Great location, just a 5-min walk to the centre.

Review 133:I couldn't work the air conditioning so the room was always a bit hot. I could have opened the window but then the traffic noise from the Promenade des Anglais would have been overwhelming. I did leave it open one night and the traffic did settle down. But I didn't sleep well on any of thre three nights.

Review 134:34 years ago I was booked into the Hotel Westminster but had to cancel at the last minute. I always wanted to go back and finally I did. Great location, very friendly staff.

Review 135:Don't flush the toilet when someone is in the shower!

Review 136:We were very happy to arrive at the hotel, with welcoming and friendly staff. They had a beautiful breakfast room and delicious food. The location is wonderful, we would definitely stay there again.

Review 137:The traffic is of course noisy, but that's the price you pay for the view. We found closing the shutters really made a difference to the level of noise.

Review 138:We found the staff to be helpful, courteous and professional.

Review 139:In a sea view room but the street noise was horrendous-even with the shutters down. Breakfast much too expensive at 20 euro p.p.

Review 140:Location is perfect. Hotel comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly

Review 141:lots of traffic in front of hotel.Quite noisy. Shower had window facing room. No shower door. Hard to adjust water faucets. Hair dryer was broken. Not very clean.

Review 142:staff was polite service was good. Location was good.

Review 143:Duck pillow allergy !

Review 144:Two nights in hotel . Both nights ate in hotel restaurant . Food fab and wine choice excellent .atmosphere in Restaurant could not be nicer .
