Reviews for Hôtel de la Chaussée

Review 1:The front of the hotel belies its lovely interior.

Review 2:The staff were charming and helpful, and went out of their way to assist us, the hotel was beautifully appointed, clean and with loads of character! We were very pleased with our experience

Review 3:The hotel is verry good located in the French Alps, the right location for motorbiking or cycling in the mountains. Safe parking and a garage for our motor bikes. The room has a nice wooden interior with good beds. Free and good signal Wifi in the hotel.

Review 4:No real issues English speaking was limited but again not a real issue

Review 5:Great location for town Secure parking available Easy to find Warm welcome and offered a choice of available rooms

Review 6:secure parking is available but is offsite and a bit inconvenient for luggage transport

Review 7:Staff were very helpful and friendly. We liked the wood cabin-like feel of the room. The whole place is decorated with many interesting antiques and craftworks. Especially enjoyed our visit to the old town area.

Review 8:The breakfast was good, the rooms were clean but on the small side. The shower unit was excellent.we had a friendly welcome. The car parking provision was good

Review 9:Breakfast was adequate but not as amazing as the room.

Review 10:My top floor room was bright and nicely furnished, mountain lodge style, with a great view across roof tops of Briancon to snow capped mountains.

Review 11:Despite my French fluency the managing family is tight lipped and had little tourist advice although referral to the tourist office was good.

Review 12:Restaurant downstairs - excellsnt- and welcome of little children a definite plus. Better than almost any other French destination

Review 13:I loved the cowbells and cuckoo clocks decor - puts the guest in the spirit of the region. Great staff - friendly, helpful. They gave me a secure place to store my bicycle. Wonderful meals. Spacious room with balcony. No complaints at all. Highly recommend.

Review 14:Not easy to find - the hotel sign wasn't easy to see at first. Room was great but on 3rd floor with a lot of stairs.

Review 15:The chalet style wooden décor was fun. We stayed in a family room which was a good size and the bathroom was big too (with a good shower). The staff were helpful and although the site said no parking there was a private, locked car park (sometimes full).

Review 16:Our room was adjacent to 2 clock towers which chimed the half hours throughout the night. So choose your room carefully.

Review 17:A traditional hotel in a good location.

Review 18:Hotel is on quite a busy roundabout and rooms can get quite warm.

Review 19:Nice wood chalet style rooms and dining. Kind and helpful staff. On balance worth the money.

Review 20:The bathroom in our room was small but functional and very clean.

Review 21:quirky and original under cover parking in the middle of the town. Its B&B but a good B&B not much english spoken but we made it work.

Review 22:Traditional mountain style decor. Good food and service in the restaurant. Good breakfast too. Nice view of mountains from terrace of our room. Note it is in the lower part of town and there is a long walk uphill to the old part where the church and fort is. We drove up and parking up there was a bit tricky to find but maybe it was because there were lots of roadworks happening at the time.

Review 23:Nothinb

Review 24:Just amazing for the money - the rooms are comfortable, charcterful and charming - as good as a brilliant 5 star chalet hotel i've stayed in at 5 times the price - very warm welcome and great food. Location is perfectly situated close for old town and convenient for gare and gare routiere. Can recommend highly enough.

Review 25:The hotel sign was at 3 floors up on the building and not very obviously positioned, so you could not find it that easily while driving or walking on the road. But in fact the establishment is right out in plain sight. The sign at the sidewalk level said Restaurant if I remember correctly rather than Hotel, so this made us keep wandering around lost in the confusing one way layout of the town.

Review 26:Splendid Alpen interiors! Also showcased a lot of woodcut curios at the lobby. Very accommodating and friendly owners which looked over our safety... Hotel was next to confusing roundabout which makes you wanna 'turn left' when coming from the old town up the hill (rather than go around the roundabout on the far right), especially when the town is deserted at 11am (it's late Spring) and we were immediately pulled over by the cops which came out of nowhere, but madame owner came out to our rescue (while we were explaining in English that we got directions by another set of cops from the old town to turn left to the hotel, all while the cop motioned me to get off the bike so he could write me a ticket in the wee hours 11pm). One look and a brief conversation to the cops and we were let off with a warning.

Review 39:Room was right over the motorway. It was very, very loud.

Review 40:Very friendly staff

Review 41:Central location, modern rooms and had a secure car park. 20 minute walk from the old town.

Review 42:Lovely staff, great decor

Review 43:No wall shower attachment above bath....why??????

Review 44:The cosy decor

Review 45:bathroom ceiling lights cast facial shadows, no elevator.

Review 46:Alpine design with 100% wood, even the toilet brush, large room with terrace, room safe, good lighting,( except bathroom), excellent bed, parking nearby.

Review 47:Décoration de chalet, table excellente, personnel attentif, un vrai hôtel au prix d'un hôtel de chaîne. Wonderful chalet furniture and accessories, excellent dinner and welcoming staff for the rate of a standard hotel.

Review 48:This hotel is worth at least 3 stars. We liked the room, the decoration. Good food was served in the restaurant. It's all very cozy. Perfect location in centre of Briançon, parking nearby.

Review 49:There is no elevator, thus one needs to carry the luggage up one or two flights of stairs. Also, one of the bedrooms on the second floor has a very small bathroom.

Review 50:This is a 2 stars hotels that deserves 3 stars. The small family owned hotel has a wonderful restaurant with excellent food for a reasonable price. The owners will make any effort to keep the guest happy. It is clean, cozy and has lovely decoration of wooden animals throughout the place, all made by the owner . The room is large and comfortable and one can see the mountains from the small balcony. Very sweet place.

Review 51:If you don't speak at least a little French, you might havedifficulties at this hotel

Review 52:Rooms and restaurant were utterly charming. If you like alpine kitsch(we do) this place is perfect, nice balcony, good location, secureparking nearby. Restaurant served good food and large portions.

Review 53:I think that the manager / one of the staff might have had a bit of a medical problem that affected our stay.

Review 54:The hotel was nice enough, full on "Alps Decor" throughout.

Review 55:A true alpine experience. Individually crafted wooden rooms and furniture and warm quilted bedding. The two ladies who ran it were a delight. The food was excellent in a restaurant decorated with cowbells and other alpine paraphanalia accumulated by the family for over a hundred years. Be prepared for enormous portions of very well cooked local dishes. Make sure you climb up to the old town, it's impressive.

Review 56:Nothing really, except maybe the bathroom which is a bit small and the soap povided which is not really convenient to use, but really not an issue for any of these given the price.

Review 57:Amazing quality for the price (despite being used to 4 and 5 stars only). Makes you wonder why paying more.

Review 58:If you want to eat posh or visit the old town, prepare for an arduous hike up the hill.

Review 59:Good central location. Quirky heavy wooden interior. Secure parking just around the back.

Review 60:Very steep walk to the old town.

Review 61:Brilliant family run hotel. They have not been in business for over 150years or nothing. Very friendly, great value for money. You must attemptto speak French, and they will help. Great car park, which theydon't advertise, and we were not charged for. Would definitely goback. Dinner is brilliant, do eAt there.

Review 62:No English tv channels. Our window roller blind was jammed so did notget much natural light.

Review 63:Attractive and unique decor. Great location in the Main Street. Thehotel restaurant was lovely and served great French food.

Review 64:The food was unbelievable good. The home made fruit purée was heaven on earth. Dinner was served in the most interesting room, never a dull moment. The people were very welcoming and charming. Excellent experience.

Review 65:The shower was very small (if the showerhead were placed in one of the corners instead of straight on, I think it'd give you a little more room).

Review 66:Everything about the place was comfortable and cozy. The staff were splendid, and our meal in the restaurant was *the best* (highest quality and most filling) we'd ever eaten for the price (under 25eur pp). The bed was firm, the room was clean and quiet, and everything was as good or better than we'd expected.

Review 67:A 10 minute hike up the hill to get to the the old town, but that's not their fault.

Review 68:Decor has Charm; staff is nice.

Review 69:Traditional mountain style hotel. Very kind staff.

Review 70:All of it

Review 71:the neon sign above the hotel did not show the word Chaussee making it harder to find the hotel.

Review 72:most everything.

Review 73:Very nice people Beautiful authentic rooms

Review 74:The reception area was like the family living area. Impossible to stop the car outside the hotel even to unload.

Review 75:Poor welcome and unfriendly especially as we do not have a lot of French. Needed windows shut as on road

Review 76:Good value. Good shower room.

Review 77:Rooms were very nicely decorated and staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 78:The price.

Review 79:Location

Review 80:Wines a little expensive.

Review 82:LImited menu and desperately slow service in the dining room.
