Reviews for Château de Challanges

Review 1:Nothing

Review 2:Booked this whilst travelling along the motorway and just half an hour away. Arrived late and the owner booked a local restaurant for us which was excellent. The Chateau is fantastic. Very helpful and friendly staff. Will certainly book again if in the area.

Review 3:There were no bad experiences here. the only thing is that wifi worked in the main Chateau but not in the cottages. Not such a hardship. You will need a car or Taxi to get to downtown Beaune. Taxi was $20 Euro one way.

Review 4:The property grounds are absolutely beautiful, peaceful and tranquil. A great place for peaceful relaxation after a hectic week in Paris. We stayed in one of the cottages which was large and was very well appointed.

Review 5:Bit far out of town. Poor attitude from staff when a problem arose - not good form to argue with customers in public.

Review 6:The room in a round house was comfortable and very spacious

Review 7:Had an initial challenge arranging a room on the ground floor for a partially disabled guest travelling with us because they were busy. Need to make such arrangements very early as there are limited rooms on the ground floor

Review 8:Great helpful staff. Very good location for day-tripping and ease of entry to city of Beaune. Repeat customer.

Review 9:Hotel was tired, damp, run down ( at least our room was) paid little attention to detail and in room preparation

Review 10:Visit to great restaurant in nearby village

Review 11:It was a beautiful property, the chateau and grounds were in wonderful condition. The room was very pretty and very comfortable. The breakfast very good.

Review 12:Lovely Chateau set in beautiful grounds. We stayed in a recently refurbished family room in a side building which was beautiful! They had some great wines and wifi was good as well.

Review 13:No restaurant if you arrived after long drive. Needed to go into Beaune.

Review 14:Well situated with good private paring. We had room in a Roundhouse in the garden, which was very comfortable with very large beds and great bathroom. Also our own patio. Was great for our dog also.

Review 15:Only drawback is that there is no restaurant - other than breakfast room. However, the local restaurants. That are recommended by the staff are excellent and easily accessible. Don't take Amex.

Review 16:Great location with easy access to Beaune - you probably need a map to get onto the tollway to Paris - it's a bit confusing and signs are not clear. We highly recommend the Chateau and will certainly stay hereof we return to Burgundy

Review 17:The staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. They gave good practical advice on activities, called places to get discounts and recommended good restaurants for eating with young children. We were a group of 9 people and everyone enjoyed their stay in the hotel.

Review 18:Service at breakfast poor Room needs some maintenance esp bathroom Shower sprays out onto floor

Review 19:Attractive hotel and garden Comfortable beds Reception staff helpful

Review 20:This is really a very up-market B&B. We stayed in one of the annexe rooms, and liked it so much we stayed an extra night (in a suite, as our first room was already booked). as a base for exploring Burgundy it is wonderful. No restaurant, but a plethora of local restaurants. They do serve proscuito, cheese and bread on the terasse, and of course the wine list is extensive and superb. Although seemingly close to the A6 your really cannot hear it in the summer from inside the little forest. I imagine in winter it might be a bit more obvious

Review 21:Nothing !

Review 22:We were warmly welcomed to the hotel and shown to our room which was in a garden round house. The whole hotel was clean, freshly decorated and very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The pool was heated which meant we could enjoy a welcome swim. We were sorry we weren't staying longer than one night

Review 23:The small cottages "sequoia", "cedre" have rooms where the sound insulation is poor. We could here our neighbors quite well. These rooms could benefit from some more furniture like a table for breakfast. When it is raining outside, you get wet if you use the outside table.

Review 24:Friendly staff, great setting, big size of the room (room 501).

Review 25:Gorgeous house and grounds. Lovely swimming pool. Helpful staff. The closest restaurant L'o de la Bouche is walkable in 20minutes and very good with a lovely outdoor terrace. The (local) house wine is great too. Great for a short stop over en route to the south of France.

Review 26:Everything! This is a beautiful chateau in a country like setting but so convenient to Beaune. Staff was wonderful! Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 27:The owners/more senior managers we interacted with were not courteous or helpful. This significantly reduced our enjoyment of their hotel.

Review 28:Beautiful property and very conveniently located. Light dinner options were very helpful, and the more junior staff members did a nice job on hospitality. If only their bosses could mind their manners!

Review 29:Our rooms were on the top floor. Long climb with the lugage ;-)

Review 30:Airconditioning was great (quiet). Park around building is nice. Friendly staff. Good tapas and wine. City of Beaune is just nearby and worth a visit.

Review 31:My booking form stated that no deposit would be charged prior to arrival, but they charged the full amount a week in advance. I sent an e-mail complaining and they refunded me. That kind of mistake is not supposed to happen in a well run hotel like this. No soap dish in the shower cabin. We had to leave the soap on the floor or hold it all along the bath.

Review 32:The chateau is a charming property in the outskirts of Beaune, surrounded by a green park and pleasant gardens. Really beautiful. We stayed in an executive room in a roundhouse by the garden. Very spacious, comfortable and well furnished, with 2 double beds. Bathroom was large and modern. Highly recommendable.

Review 33:No restaurant. We arrived at lunchtime and could not even have a sandwich although the hotel is not far from good restaurants. We had driven for 6 hours so just wanted a snack by the pool to relax which was not possible.

Review 34:Location and room. We had a ronde room near the pool.

Review 35:Our A/C wasn't working so well and it was nearly 40 degrees Celsius outside. Made sleeping a little tough.

Review 36:Conveniently located, just outside of Beaune. Beautiful accommodations and very friendly staff.

Review 37:I didn't like the dogs that are allowed. They were peeing all over the place. Very unsanitary.

Review 38:The property itself; Location (very quiet);the staff

Review 39:The lack of restaurant. We couldn't get wifi so gave up on that.

Review 40:The location, setting, grounds and staff. With the heatwave the air conditioning was fantastic. It was great having a pool. We stayed in the annex with a private terrace facing the pool.

Review 41:food, wifi did not work , uncomfortable beds and not enough soap or shower gel for 3 people , no milk for morning coffee

Review 42:friendly helpful staff but only two staff to help with everything

Review 43:Room size is really small for a relaxing chateau like this....maybe charge a bit more but offer decent size rooms.

Review 44:Location and proximity to town for shopping and restaurant.

Review 45:some fixtures and fittings could be looked at shelf in wardrobe kept falling down. key stuck in door. nothing major just a bit of extra finishing needed.

Review 46:staff very friendly and helpful. rooms very large bath great. breakfast plenty to choose. would go back again

Review 47:The interior would need a make-over. It is quite worn. Some rooms are renovated, however in a one-off discontinuous overly creative, clumsy style - a missed opportunity for such a jewel (get a good interior designer with good taste and finesse).

Review 48:Beautiful old building & luscious green Grunds.

Review 49:The staff members went out of their way to help us with restaurant advice as well as making sure our comfort in the hotel was complete. Everyone was extremely friendly.

Review 50:I would have preferred a bigger room, our room was very small on the top floor. We should have asked to be moved although it would have cost almost double.

Review 51:The Staff were amazing even offered to come and pick us up from a local restaurant if it was raining.

Review 52:The hotel is má little old and a little refurbishing mist be happening soon.

Review 53:The rooms are spotless and completely different from the decoration of the hotelm/)castle.

Review 54:After six hours driving we like the quiet atmosphere in the park. The young man behind he counter was as enthusiast as you can get them and a perfect guide to the property.

Review 55:The pool is not heated so we could not use it. The breakfast is delivered in your room (family rooms only) which is nice, but there's no cheese / cold cuts, and the coffee arrives cold...

Review 56:Spacious room (family rooms in the garden), good location to explore the region

Review 57:There is no restaurant for lunch/dinner.

Review 58:The chateau is in very convention location very close to the junctio of the near by motorway. . It is very well refurbished, better than more of these chateau type of accomodation that we stayed at. We stayed in the annex and it was very nice room. The staff was very plesant and helpful.

Review 59:Sitting room very small, usually full, with worn furniture. Not nice if room tiny like 201 and nowhere to sit. Circular stairs to 2nd floor dangerous with threadbare carpet. Room filled with smoke at night after fireplace lit in sitting room. Complaining did not help. Some rooms appear grand in photos...we booked based on advertised photos, but our room was not as such.

Review 60:The imposing former grandeur could be felt in the dining room. Couple of good restaurants within 10 minutes. Helpful breakfast attendant.

Review 61:Returned on the way north four weeks later. Can't really call it a bad experience but after the upgrade the room was basic and TV on top of wardrobe. Service still excellent and friendly.

Review 62:Had upgrade on way south - room was excellent. Service also excellent and friendly

Review 63:The location, close to the motorway but hidden away in a lovely little village. Nice rooms opening up to the pool and plenty of land for our dog to run around on. Friendly helpful owners who made sure that we had everything we needed.

Review 64:We stayed only one night at this beautifully restored chateau but next time we'll plan for two or more. Staff were friendly and most welcoming of us and our little dog. Breakfast was delicious: freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit, yogurt and an abundance of just-baked assorted breads and croissants served with scrambled eggs and ham from the region - all served to us in our room! A groomed walking trail that encircles the property was perfect for unwinding and for walking our dog.

Review 65:Decor could do with updating and some consistency in the interior design.

Review 66:We got caught out in the heavy snow leaving val thorens and a 3.5 hour journey to 11.5 hours, thankfully they kept the desk open until we arrived at 00:30, this was amazing. Couldn't thank them enough and I am pretty they kept it open most of the night to welcome others caught out by the same issue. Great. Good, soft beds and powerful shower, good breakfast, just what we needed. Would return.

Review 67:Perhaps the location was a little out of the way and difficult to find but the corollary of that was quiet and a scenic setting.

Review 68:The staff was very kind and attentive, going out of their way to help. The referral for a place to dine was excellent. The grounds were beautiful and the room entirely comfortable.

Review 69:So much mosquitoes in the room when we checked in and so as the next day.

Review 70:Nice and relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast is decent but the room is a bit too small

Review 71:We loved the surroundings of the hotel, it is like a resort in the middle of a village. It is not luxurious , it is elegant, it has a charm of an old place kept well. It was quiet, if you get the rooms by the pool it is amazing. We loved it!

Review 72:Very easy to find, ample parking, very comfortable en suite, evening meal good but a bit expensive. Went out into Amboise for breakfast, much better value. Lovely location overlooking the Loire, nice heated swimming pool. Drinks on the terrace overlooking lovely garden and with super views. Would we stay again, YES.

Review 73:Chateau and grounds were absolutely beautiful. Staff was friendly and our room was very comfortable. It was a wonderful experience for frugal travelers - like us. While not in the city, it was so very close and, I think, the best choice for the area.

Review 74:wifi was virtually non-existent in your room.

Review 75:fantastic staff...very friendly and helpful. They supplied lovely bikes for us to ride into Beune. a beautiful place.

Review 76:No restaurant on the premises, so you have to drive to Beaune for dinner, which is not far, but would be nice to be able to enjoy a few glasses of Burgundy wines with the meal.

Review 77:Nice, calm and somewhat secluded location; beautifully kept grounds, nice looking pool (didn't get to try it unfotunately as it was raining at the time we were there).

Review 78:Towels worn and ripped. First room on second floor had little storage space.

Review 79:Beautiful mature gardens. Second room in separate cottage beautiful and modern.

Review 80:The bedroom we stayed in was a bit tired, the umbrellas on terrace near pool were dirty and the mini bar fridge had been unplugged and smelled musty

Review 81:Obliging and friendly staff Very good location only 5 minutes from motorway and 5 minutes from centre of Beaune Lovely house although stables Accomodation is not same as staying in the house Good beds Lovely grounds

Review 82:We had the quadruple room which was lovely but it was difficult when our little one wanted to go to sleep as all the beds are together and there wasn't enough hanging space for clothes.

Review 83:The Chateau was beautiful, with friendly staff, great facilities and a wonderful location. The breakfast is certainly worth the extra money and the pool was perfect for the family. We had a south facing room with a balcony - it was lovely.

Review 84:This was a lovely place to stop after a long drive. Fantastic position. There isn't a restaurant for an evening meal but the lady on reception told us about a place nearby and gave us bikes so we could cycle there. It was wonderful. Lots of places nearby for wine tasting.

Review 85:Standard rooms are on top floor and very small. Access is via a narrow twisty staircase, there is no elevator. The wifi is a joke, my wife was unable to get connected throughout our 2 day stay.

Review 86:Lovely property in great location

Review 87:Beautiful location friendly staff , good bicycles provided (not free) within easy reach of Beaune. Wonderful lamp lit evening terrace Good swimming pool

Review 88:Pricey breakfast.

Review 89:The room is not very large, but it's very cozy. The location is perfect, it's not far from Beaune. We rent a bike from the hotel and had a wonderful three-day stay.

Review 90:The breakfast service poor, the lady working in the kitchen totally unhappy in her job, gave off a bad attitude which was uncalled for. The towels in the bathroom are too small and worn out.

Review 91:The front desk staff very helpful

Review 92:Necessary to drive to get to restaurants etc - but hotel will furnish you with a list Would recommend arrival before dark because it can be a bit hard to find

Review 93:Friendly staff Beautiful property in quiet area Building and rooms lovingly decorated

Review 94:I had a very small room on the second floor and an even smaller bath room, not convenient for a longer than a one night stay

Review 95:friendly reception,good location, nice environment,excellent wine list,friendly personnel

Review 96:Next time we'll ask for a room on the lower level.

Review 97:We had been coming to the Beaune region for a few years and rarely repeated hotels. But now we found our definite Beaune Hotel. Quietness, nice garden, not far from city centre, very pleasant staff making every effort to assure a nice visit

Review 98:Nice and charming

Review 99:Our room

Review 100:Long stairs to carry luggage

Review 101:Beautiful building and sorroundings, very good breakfast buffet

Review 102:Not exactly what the photos on the website show it to be. Needs an update to the rooms and facilities.

Review 103:friendly, good breakfast

Review 104:Very small lounge area. Room needed updating. Small staircase with very worn carpeting.

Review 105:Bed was comfortable. Staff was excellent.

Review 106:The room, the bed and bathroom too small

Review 107:The staff very amicable

Review 108:A little bit far out of town. Double rooms are very small.

Review 109:Lovely gardens, good breakfast, bar for drinks in the evening.

Review 110:Felt like being at home, very quit place

Review 111:Close to city and yet rural style. Car parking. Should take room on ground or 1st floor. 2nd floor rooms are small and bathroom very small.

Review 112:Stunning chateaux, fabulous service and helpful staff and would recommend to anyone

Review 113:Brilliant place

Review 114:The room we were given was very small with a tiny window and up many many flights of stairs!

Review 115:Location, ambiance and old world chateau

Review 116:I feel like they were trying to get the most rooms (money) as they possibly could, rather than cncentrating on the quality of the room.

Review 117:Beautiful place

Review 118:Breakfast was average for the price you pay.

Review 119:Lovely outside seating area to relax and have a drink. Great poop too

Review 120:Very nice staff, both evening and during the day. Beautiful yard to sit and eat cheese and drink wine.

Review 121:Near motoway -200 m.
