Reviews for La Vieille Auberge
Review 1:All wonderful
Review 2:Loved the ambience and friendly efficient staff. Room was lovely and still a lovely view out of bathroom. In winter perhaps a coffee making facility in the room would be excellent Will return
Review 3:Wifi wasn't great but that seemed to be typical of everywhere we went in France
Review 4:Whats not to like? Check in was easy, the walk to the room was stunning but up many stairs so pack light and you'll be fine. The rooms are fairly basic but who cares when you have a sea view and a terrace!?! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spotlessly clean. We didn't eat at the restaurant as it was closed (we were there in December) but breakfast was plentiful and good value. We are so glad we stayed on the island and didn't do a day trip.
Review 5:The staff there was so bad !!!!!! I have never been treated so badly andpayed for it !!!!!!! The guy who took our luggage to our room complainedthe whole time how heavy it was.I (A little 5'2" woman) carriedit from the parking lot a mile away all the way up a cobble stone walkwith people everywhere, and he (a 6'plus guy )was complaining it wasto heavy. I wanted to take it back and do it myself just so Iwouldn't have to hear him anymore. Then we went to eat only for themto rudely tell us that we missed the dinner time by five minutes. Notkidding five minutes !!!! The next morning we got up and packed and weto take pictures before the crowds showed up,(we were told the crowdsshow up around 11:am) when we got back to the resturant part of thehotel where we had left our luggage they informed us we were to late forbreakfast and to early for lunch which was in twenty minutes. The sameguy who took our luggage the night before said "Are you mad?"I said I'm not happy and he said then sit I will serve you. I toldhim we can just go to a place a ways down the road that serves breakfasttill 11:am. He said "no" he will take care of us. So we satand he waited twenty minutes till it 11:00 before he came over to us andask us what we wanted. How nice of him.....
Review 6:Nothing
Review 7:The waitresses in the restuarant were very abrupt
Review 8:The room was very comfortable with a great view. It was great to be able to get up early and wander around before the crowds arrived. The male staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 9:Speaking of the climb: The balcony room we booked was far above most of the other structures on the island, so we had to haul our luggage up maybe 200 or 300 steps to reach our room. Our concierge was very accommodating in setting a leisurely pace, but it's an important consideration if you're not feeling fit or if you travel heavy.
Review 10:This hotel is located ON Mont St. Michel, so you get to enjoy peace and quiet on this beautiful island after the throngs of tourists leave in the evening. Our room was small but impeccably clean, the beds were comfortable, and the view from the balcony was breathtaking. It was a truly memorable experience and well worth the climb.
Review 11:the view from our room was like looking at a Harry potter set. Lots of steps but that's part of the charm of the place. The staff managed room service in our quaint but comfy room in the rain delivering the food dry and the coffee hot.
Review 12:Definitely try to pack light. We had to climb a number of stairs to get to our room but the view we had was worth it.
Review 13:Our room had a balcony with a spectacular view, just beautiful. Room was adequate, staff were friendly.
Review 14:Room got a little warm at night, didn't appear to be a fan. Breakfast was croissants and bread, not super hearty if you're going to be hiking up a mountain. I am from the USA so I am likely biased to wards larger breakfasts.
Review 15:Beautiful view of the bay. Over looks the city and a quaint little church. Bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and the shower nice and hot. I would consider staying here again if I return to the island.
Review 16:The climb to our room was, as expected, somewhat strenuous...
Review 17:Location allowed us to see and tour the Mont. at night, giving us a point of view not available to most visitors.
Review 18:No hot water in the shower and the shower was backed up and wouldn't drain properly. Be warned, no air conditioning; this can be brutal in July when you have to choose between being cool or being chewed up by mosquitos.
Review 19:Fabulous location, great view. Nice to be on the island after all the tourists have gone home. Amazing to wake up to the sound of monks chanting.
Review 20:Staff not friendly or helpful. Would be good if breakfast was included and tea and coffee making facility in room as the town restaurants close early.
Review 21:Room had a great view and only minutes from the Abbey. Just a cool island to stay on.
Bereich.
Review 24:This place is overpriced based on the quality of the hotel, but you are paying for the location.
Review 25:The best part about visiting Mont-Saint-Michel was being there at night, after the crowds had left. It isn't necessary to stay on the island, but it was cool. You definitely pay a premium for the experience, and the hotel room itself was merely adequate for the price.
Review 26:No view from our room but everything is so close by you can walk to a view. It also wasn't very easy finding our hotel entrance and we were redirected many times. Also our hotel staff weren't very friendly and spoke limited English. There are also limited buses from the Mont to nearby towns so CHECK the schedule before hand!!!
Review 27:This property is amazing! It was so great to spend the night on the Mont St.Michel.
Review 28:Not worth the price, given how easy the location is to access with the shuttles which run all evening long
Review 29:It was cool to be able to stay directly in mt St Michel.
Review 30:The room really was tiny but we only brought small backpacks because of the steps and narrow passageways. It was very warm so we left the sliding door open to sleep, but the mosquitos got in. There is also a bell tower right outside that rang every 15 minutes all night long. The flocks of seagulls were also quite noisy.
Review 31:We were thrilled to be able to spend the night on the island but found that you really don't need to. The abbey was open late into the evening and the sun was up until 10pm. We probably would have been more comfortable in Beauvoir or Pontorson.
Review 32:Don't go to Mt Saint Michele without staying at least one night inside the walls. The crowds leave after 6 and it is truly amazing to have the medieval town to yourself and a few others.
Review 33:Restaurant was overcrowded, we have to wait about 30 minutes to get the remaining part of the ordered meal. Reception was not open until 8 a.m., early check-out was difficult.
Review 34:Location is excellent, just in a few minutes walk from the abbey.
Review 35:Room had unbearable odour. However, staff were kind enough to move us. The new room had a stale smell but at least bearable. Expensive for what it is.
Review 36:Location
Review 37:It is simply magical to stay on the Mont. When the crowds dissipated, we enjoyed peaceful, soul-nourishing walks around the beautiful location. Our room was in a quiet location with a great view overlooking rooftops right out to the causeway. There was a terrace outside our front door where we could sit and read or write postcards.
Review 38:The room itself wasn't quite as charming as the location, but it was clean and comfortable and I would stay there again.
Review 39:We were so happy that we decided to spend the night on the island. It was so fun to wander around the little stone passageways, and then have a key to let ourselves into one of the doors.
Review 40:noisy rooms, I could hear de screaming orgasm of the neighbor (not bad, but also not nice if you want to sleep)
Review 41:very close to the Abdey and in nice labyrinth of stairs. Food in the restaurant was not really good, overcooked salmon and sales orientated staff.
Review 42:The fact that they were not very clear that we wouldn't be able to access the hotel expect by foot. We had to walk with our bags to the hotel from the shuttle bus stop.
Review 43:Affiliate restaurant was good.
Review 44:everything about this hotel was fantastic from the staff to the food and location was amazing. the rooms are separate from the hotel on the main street. Most are in the same building but if you spend the extra money for an ocean view you are higher up the hill and right under the abbey with a great view of the surrounding tides.
Review 45:The Wi-fi was a bit spotty. Also, at night there was a loud fan going. If you're a light sleeper, then that might be difficult to sleep through.
Review 46:Since we went during off-season, the price for a room was 70 euros and that was a good deal for us. The room was small, but we knew that before booking. If you're tall, it will be a bit tricky. Our room had an excellent view and room itself was well-located. The facilities were clean and we had no issues. We were there for one night and the staff was friendly.
Review 47:Nithing
Review 48:It was great to stay on Mont St Michel for the night and enjoy it after all the tourists had gone. Parking was easy and shuttle buses frequent Did the 17 euro breakfast which was great Just make sure you take as little luggage as possible as room was halfway up the Mont - we just took and overnight backpack each which was perfect
Review 49:In my opinion, Mont Saint-Michel is not for people with limited mobility. Also, because we arrived late in the evening, it was difficult to find our hotel room, which I had already been warned of. Once we came across a very friendly man and asked about our Auberge, he immediately contacted the man in charge for the night shift and he was amazing.
Review 50:I loved the fact that the room was footsteps away from the Abbey. I loved waking up early to the chimes of the bells calling everyone to mass. The visit was a very pleasant one, and I would recommend the Auberge to anyone. The breakfast was delicious and everyone was very pleasant.
Review 51:We wanted to have a drink on their patio. There was a mistake on the order and the waiter took it as an affront that he could have made a simple mistake and was quite rude. This was more the rule than exception for service there. We went somewhere else to dine.
Review 52:Easy to check in. Room was acceptable, but would not wish to stay more than one night as it is in the rafters and we are tall people. We could barely fit in the shower. Great view of the sunrise from the bathroom window. Suggest upgrading to a terrace room.
Review 53:I did not have high expectations of this hotel as it was situated on the side of mont st Michelle and there are limited choices. However the hotel exceeded my expectations - clean, comfortable bed, quiet and spectacular location part way up towards the monastery.
Review 54:Security of the hotel is A door in front of small path always unlock.
Review 55:Location is really good. This hotel is in the middle of the way to Mont Saint-Michel. It's easy to access everywhere inside island.
Review 56:Extremely noisy: either people staying late on island and at restaurants below or service people starting the day at 4:AM or just the island, which is overrun with tourists. I would never go there again and warn people against going. No one helped to carry our one bag to the room and when I got food poisoning at one of the restaurants, I could not get an hour extension on my check out time, which I desperately needed as I was so very sick. I had to leave in horrible condition.
Review 57:The room was clean, nice view from windows, 2 windows, cross draft.
Review 58:Arrived late at night and there was no reception. We did not know where to go and as we were about to walk back down the mont, a gentleman appeared. A little scary for two ladies at midnight!!!
Review 59:Location! Comfort!
Review 60:Would not suggest going in the summer. Way too many people and the prices are outrageous for the type of room. Don't get the breakfast, go to the bakery next store, it's better, cheaper and the people are nicer.
Review 61:the view from the room we had was magnificent.
Review 62:During the check out hotel staff didn't speak any English. Would expect they know at least some basics.
Review 63:Location is just awesome, nice big terrace, it provides a lot of privacy in such crowded place! The rooms are not located at the main street.
Review 64:noisy at night because of the seagulls so make sure you bring ear plugs
Review 65:very cosy - beds are excellent! Understandably a small room due to the unique architecture on the island but a truly memorable experience. Make sure you book a tour to walk on the sand banks at low tide!
Review 66:We were stuck in a room in an annex. We never saw where reception was located. We had to enter their restaurant and the cashier at the restaurant would call someone to check us in. Our room did not have a working telephone. Wifi was poor. The room had no air cond and terrible ventilation. It was very stuffy. When I complained to the staff the young girls were very condescending and did nothing to address my concerns. They told me if I was not happy I could go elsewhere because booking.com had prepaid the room and they didn't care if I lost the money. I will never go there again and I intend to do my best to post my dissatisfaction with Vielle Auberge
Review 67:staff did not help you when needed, restaurant service was poor
Review 68:Room
Review 69:The room is very outdated. The shower wall does not keep water from spraying everywhere in the bathroom.
Review 70:The location of the hotel is great.
Review 71:chambre 202 super location
Review 72:The room and bathroom are spacious with King sized bed.
Review 73:We loved the view. Note. We came in the off season so it felt like a good deal; might feel different in summer paying full rate.
Review 74:Good location, cleanness,view
Review 75:Noisy area, room not sound-proof, staff does not exert effort to satisfy customer.
Review 76:Clean Room
Review 77:touristy restaurant
Review 78:Clean. New. Helpful staff.
Review 79:Wi-Fi didn't functioned. Room faced main street, therefore very noisy
Review 80:Shower leaked onto floor
Review 81:Location! Having the island to yourself at night
Review 82:Staff was too busy in the restaurant to really serve you. It took awhile until they got to us.
Review 83:Great location! Beautiful view!
Review 84:We experienced a problem on arrival. The restaurant where booking in occurs closes at 7pm. Had to wait some time for assistance.
Review 85:The location!
Review 86:Mosquitos in the room from cleaning staff leaving windows open before we arrived.
Review 87:Location, comfort of bed, and cleanliness of room.
Review 88:Many shops and restaurants closed at 5pm The room is a bit small
Review 89:The seaview room is good
Review 90:Perfect location
Review 91:The ambience was lovely and a great deal of effort was made to find a place to safely store our bicycles.
Review 92:So many stairs to climb to reach the place, small room, filthy unusable balcony.
Review 93:Rooms are separate from restaurant, but in an excellent location
Review 94:Nothing I didn't like
Review 95:Everything
Review 96:The restaurant staff didn't seem all that friendly - and Ispeak French
Review 97:Stunning views
Review 98:Good location
Review 99:Expensive breakfast.
Review 100:A beautiful view.
Review 101:Smell in the toilet, no soundproofing.
Review 102:Location, good room, good view.
Review 103:Atmosphere, views, the overall experience. Top marks to local and national government for the fore site to protect the area
Review 104:The guys at the check in bar/rest.
Review 105:Room very nice
Review 106:Couldn't open the window, so felt clostrophoic.
Review 107:We loved the large room and large bathroom with a fabulous view of roof tops and the sea.
Review 108:location and price --- reliable wifi, comfortable bed, good reading light, and shower with good water pressure
Review 109:No instructions how to work the heater, was not informed to go to a different hotel to check in.
Review 110:Great location, quiet and helpful staff.
Review 111:Location. It was perfect. Small room but you're not going to this place to hang out in your room! Loved it.
Review 112:The location is perfect! Because of the location, I walked around in the cattle in night and dawn. There was nobody! That was a amazing experience!
Review 113:The hotel is well placed and has an awesome view of the castle
Review 114:Cozy room under the roof with seaview in medieval building with access on medieval path between stone walls...time machine!
Review 115:Very small room. Small shower. Convoluted wifi password notification. Limited wifi.
Review 116:Location.
Review 117:Very good location.
Review 118:No wireless access Seafood platter at the restuarant
Review 119:View from the window
