Reviews for Hôtel la Croix Blanche
Review 1:We arrived late and it was confusing for check-in (and to find) as the first two levels are bar and restaurant so we had to collect our key from behind the bar. Same problems at check out as there was no-one around and it took ages to find out that reception was in the adjacent hotel.
Review 2:Location is great. Visiting here was the highlight for our trip through France and staying meant you can walk around at night and in the morning when it is quiet and less crowded. Special mention to the staff - my wife left a bangle in the room (totally forgot) and it was returned when we went to collect our left luggage by the guy behind the bar. Big thank you.
Review 3:Had to walk up 5 flights of narrow stairs to get to room, which was clean but cramped. Bathroom not on same floor as bedroom. Hotel food of average quality.
Review 4:Excellent location on Mont St Michel
Review 5:Had to carry luggage up 3 flights of a small spiral staircase;no lift. Also, room very noisy over restaurant, and much street noise both lare, and with early deliveries.
Review 6:Lovely views of Abbey from our room.
Review 7:We were caught by surprise that our room was four floors up a spiral staircase. No notice in the booking that this might be the case. Fortunately, we were able to navigate it ok.
Review 8:Central location on the Mont. The staff was very helpful. The dinner we had in their dining room, the prix fixe menu, was possibly the best dinner we had in our three weeks in France. And fine service.
Review 9:Staying on The Mont was so rewarding. Being there when the crowds were leaving for the afternoon. Experiencing the tides coming in and the ambiance at night. The hotel was centrally located with very accommodating staff. The restaurant was excellent.
Review 10:The only thing I would complain about, was that the cleaning of the streets and restaurants started very early in the morning, from 6 o'clock.
Review 11:I liked most of it
Review 12:We were kept awake by the constant noise of a metal component of a canopy on the hotel restaurant below us blowing on the wind throughout the night and bashing into a metal upright. I mentioned this at checkout and the lady was completely unconcerned. I would never go back again to stay.
Review 13:Le Mont Saint Michel is a spectacular place
Review 14:It was very nice, just a little hard to find, but the GPS helped us get there!
Review 15:The room was lovely and the staff was very helpful and kind to us. They would get us ice all the time since we loved to drink ice cold drinks!
Review 16:The spiral staircase, while quaint, was a long trek up to the 5th floor. The room was quite warm, so I opened a window, but saw a bat flying nearby. So I closed it again.
Review 17:Wonderful location, and beautiful view out top floor window.
Review 18:The tea/coffee/milk complimentary to the room should be checked before arrival of guests - there was not enough for us and when we rang for help, we were told to go to St Pierre hotel to collect extra. The restaurant service was a bit so-so.
Review 19:The location was excellent. The ladies at reception were extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 20:It was mid-July and the room was rather warm - no a/c. Had to sleep with the window open :-), lots of noise outside the window :-(
Review 21:Location - it was on the wall on Mont St Michel with views of the church.
Review 22:A bit pricey, though everything on the island is. An included breakfastwould've been nice at such a price.
Review 23:Amazing view of the abbey, comfortable bed! Great splurge on ourEuropean trip.
Review 24:the crouds, the prices, the commercialization... hotel is small, 3rd floor, no lift, narrow winding stairs, terrible capuccino, outrageous prices for everything
Review 25:location, the tides, the abbey
Review 26:Unfortunately the food in the restaurant was awful, which to be fair goes for the rest of the island. Go for the views, not the food.
Review 27:The view from the room and restaurant is fantastic. The staff are pleasant and helpful.
Review 28:After we arrived, after waiting in the reception area for several minutes, we were informed that we needed to go to another hotel to find the "receptionist". I understand the need for several small hotels to share a receptionist. I just wish that this had been communicated in the electronic confirmation of the hotel reservation. The room was large and modern, but the view as poor.
Review 29:Direct access to the abbey walls was wonderful.
Review 30:Tight environment but to be expected in this situation.
Review 31:We are celebrating our 34th anniversary so we called in advance of arrival and asked for a room with a view. Although small, the view was exceptional and a memory for a lifetime. Merci bien!
Review 32:If you plan a trip to Mont St Michel our recommendation is make it a daytour. We booked 2 nights at this hotel but left after just one. The reason was we got bored. When you visited the abbey, walked the main street up and down a couple of times and crossed the sand during lowtide. There is not much left to do. The restaurants (incl the one at our hotel) are too spoiled with the hords of tourists stampeding in trough the citys maingate from early morning to approx. six a clock in the afternoon. After that most of them close. They are ususally under staffed ( less salery = moore profit) which will make your waiting very long, the waiters very stressed and often quite rude. The prices are upscale and not worth what they serve. So put your money on a nice picknick, bring your own stuff and you will leave much happier and without the sense that you have been scammed.
Review 33:Location, location, location. The decor of the rooms is very dated. Twin beds, but clean and good shower. The rooms are located up a narrow staircase on the 3,4 & 5th floors. Worth it to see the Abbey out your window. The breakfast is served at another hotel & was not very good - not much of a selection and poorly prepared. Again, the location is great - it is magical to stay on the island.
Review 34:The service, location of the room. The exhorbitant mark up. The room is a family room up 7 flights of stairs on a spiral staircase to the 'family room' in the attic. How on earth could a family with youngsters and a pram get up there. Im not going to complain about the size of the room because I understand about the age of the property but there is no excuse for a bottle of water costing 3,50 in the room and costing 2 for twelve!!!! in a local mart. We tried to buy water from a shop ON the mont but told they were shut once they knew we were guests at the hotel. The service was curt and very abrupt. Later found out a syndicate owns all the business on the mount and keeps prices exhorbitantly high!!
Review 35:We were on Mont St Michel
Review 36:Navigating the Grand Rue (8 feet wide) with luggage amid milling crowds is no fun. Figuring out check-in/check-out at nearby Auberge Saint Pierre is no fun either
Review 37:Beautiful spot -- MSM is a French national treasure
Review 38:no Breakfast in hotel needed to go two doors down the road .... didn't bother. Wanted to pay by cash but my credit card account was debited 2 days before we even arrived... disgraceful!!
Review 39:central location
Review 40:We asked for a double bed but it was two beds put together which had a habit of moving apart in the night.
Review 41:Cosy, clean room with a brilliant shower. The restaurant and terrace had amazing views and tasty, simple food and local cider. Perfect place to stay on the Mont especially with direct access to the walls for a late night walk to the North Tower with after dinner drinks.
Review 42:Breakfast in another property down the road.
Review 43:Good service, nice stay. Enjoyed a lot. The only thing preventing this hotel from having four stars is lack of lift(s). Lifts are not available in any hotel at Saint Michel. Be prepared to climb (narrow) staircase.
Review 44:We only took backpacks and were prepared for the many stairs and this was fine for us but could be a problem for some.
Review 45:Fantastic wandering around the Mont at night and waking up to the lovely view in the morning. Worth the money
Review 46:Everyone at Mont St Michel is out to get as much of your money aspossible, and you are a captive in their money trap. Mediocre food, sullen service, at the highest prices. Reminds me of Disney Worldin Orlando.
Review 47:Unique location, comfortable hotel.
Review 48:Our view from our room was a brick wall ! Really disappointing and very noisy doors ! Other people coming in late and banging their doors ! Two beds pushed together so didn't sleep too well.
Review 49:I loved the location ! Right in the alley ways of the mount in amongst the shops really lovely to people watch from the bar.
Review 50:I felt that it was not value for money it was the most expensive placewe stayed in on our whole Europe holiday and had to sleep in twin bedsin the roof. No air conditioning The meal in the restaurant was not goodand the waitress was not overly friendly. We didn't have breakfastbecause even though they had a restaurant in the motel breakfast was atanother hotel down further we just couldn't be bothered.
Review 51:I liked that we stayed on the island The room was clean Good view fromour tiny window
Review 52:We could never get the wifi to work, even after we were given several different passwords. We had to open the window to be cool, but we were waked up early due to carts on the cobblestones outside our window before dawn.
Review 53:The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and the staff was pleasant.
Review 54:We booked a triple room for 2 of us as it was the only one available (from the range of hotels on the Mont) for the night we were there. Highly recommend staying there overnight as it is more peaceful once the majority of people have left in the evening.
Review 55:This whole area is treated like a concentration camp with access verystrictly limited to individual car parks with passwords. There is noclear signage or indication as to how things work in either French orEnglish. You can only travel to this hotel by shuttle bus and when youarrive you have a lengthy walk to the castle notwithstanding the cobbledstreet up to the castle top. The signs for the hotel are minimal and itdoesn't even look like a hotel. Everything closed at 9.30 pm with nofurther establishments open either. The stairs are a joke and if you arein any way infirm or weak, be warned. £49 euro for an omelette does nothelp. Avoid like the plague. My wife got stranded and left behind by theshuttle bus and for an hour I was denied access to collect her in ourvehicle. Authority gone mad. I resorted to calling the police, to assistmy wife, who were of little value. Staff with radio and merely there toenforce access rules.
Review 56:5th floor with no elevator (there are no elevators in the Mont Saint-Michel). Tiny room, tiny bathroom, no coffee/tea facilities in the room. Room was on top of a restaurant so it can get pretty noisy.
Review 57:Location was great, we had the entire island almost to ourselves after 7pm. The room was modern.
Review 58:had to pay next door, not able to leave the windows open due to so many birds which made it a bit hot at night, private shuttle access not as advertised (had a long walk through crowds), parking code didn't work (but still allowed access)
Review 59:location: access to street and ramparts was very convenient, very quiet at night and early morning staff: carried our bags up the myriad of stairs to the top floor view: amazing view of the cathedral, especially at night
Review 60:Stairs are too steep for my old parents. We needed to go up to 6th floor using narrow and very steep circular stairs and it was so hard for them... I don't say it is wrong because the building is very histrical one, but hadicapped people need to be confirm prior to reservation. It was very hard to find the front desk.
Review 61:Good atmosphere. Very historical building. Impressive scenery from the window.
Review 62:Nothing
Review 63:Although pricy, it walk well worth it. The location is absolutely unique and nothing beats waking up on the island and having it all to yourself. Our room itself wa excellent and very uptodate
Review 64:Staffs attitude (we stayed at this hotel a few years ago, much better, we feel service has gone down hill) turned up as staff were eating, it was like we were imposing on them! Debate about who was actually going to check us in/show us to room etc. We laughed this off, but dinner service was inexcusable, 1 particular male staff member attitude was just rude, spilt wine over my hand whilst pouring into glass.... no apology, had to chase for drinks, bill etc. We though it was the norm until saw him interacting with other guests...different person all together. Quality of food was poor, and restaurant needed a good clean, sticky tables/menus etc. Real shame as this place had always held fond memories.
Review 65:Tradional setting in keeping with the magical mont sant micheal. Room was comfortable.
Review 66:I know it's a medieval establishment but climbing narrow spiral stairs with luggage up 5 flights of floors was very difficult. But that cannot be helped, I know. Room was great as was the bathroom and shower. Nice view from room.
Review 67:Nothing, even the steep stairs had a good handrail.
Review 68:Thw view from the room... (the Abbey), the view from the restaurant the sea), and above all, the excellent friendly staff, especially "Tiffany'.
Review 69:Our rooms were 3 floors up a very narrow circular staircase. No help available. Very thin walls. But we had a great view of the abbey (Room 501)
Review 70:Spare room, but adequate for overnight
Review 71:All the hotels on the island are very hard to get to. You will probably spend at least half a day on several trains and buses, and then be forced to drag your luggage through ridiculously large crowds up narrow cobblestone hills. There is not much to do on the island so it's worth staying on the mainland and just taking the free shuttle in for the day. We had a three person room on the top floor - Very hot and stuffy on the top floor, able to open a window but risk birds and flies getting in. Had to pay extra for breakfast so didn't get this option - hoped it would be free given how much we were paying
Review 72:staff were kind enough to pull our big bags up four flights of stairs for us - a tough tough job. Staff were friendly when they were present. Often not present as the hotel is also a restaurant and the restaurant staff don't know much about the hotel. Location is good if you want to be right on the island. Everything is just steps away as the island is tiny (but see below, you don't really need to stay on the island)
Review 73:The food! I had read other reviews about the poor quality of the restaurant, but chose to try it anyway. I regret that! The waitstaff was personable and kind, he even let us bring our own wine. the food came quickly, but it was not fresh, not at all flavorful, and overcooked in the extreme. the creme brulee was quite good though. Check in was in a different location, not the hotel/bar/restaurant, but only a few steps away so not bad.
Review 74:the hotel was very comfortable, great beds and bathroom, no air conditioning, but open windows brought in cool breezes all night long, which was refreshing and made for comfortable sleeping. take note - there is no elevator! We knew this ahead, and just brought a small tote with the things we needed for one night. We arrived at 7PM, and there was a light crowd. By 9PM the streets were almost empty - enjoy that time! When we got up in the morning, it was wall-to-wall tourists, packed in literally like sardines, squeezing past each other to get from one shop to the next.
Review 75:I am somewhat mobility impaired and Mont Saint Michel was difficult for me. The hotel was also difficult because I kept having to go up and down stairs. It's reasonable given the location. It just wasn't my favorite part of the stay.
Review 76:The staff was friendly and professional and helpful in many ways. For example, the concierge looked up train and bus connections for me for our departure. The hotel was one of the most charming that we stayed in, both in England and France.
Review 77:Restaurant food was not good and was expensive. Prices negotiated before arrival were disputed but eventually agreed on. Office staff spoke French while working thru her accounts even knowing we were not fluent. No officials were present on arrival so when we went to the restaurant we chose the cheapest option but were told on billing that we would have to pay extra because we did not eat the highest option which was their set deal!!
Review 78:Location was perfect. Right in the village . Especially wonderful at night for walking and photography
Review 79:It was very difficult to figure out how/where/with whom to check in or out. Personnel seemed to be nonexistent (but when we found someone at last she did accompany us to our room to be sure we got in alright). Our shower had an extremely unpleasant odor (sewage?) that subsided after we had run water for awhile. We were warned that there was no lift (elevator) so we packed light, but were unprepared for long, twisting stairways, parts of which were very, very dark. The safe was not bolted in, so even I, as a small woman, could have walked off with the entire thing!
Review 80:The hotel is on the island, so at 6PM when the souvenir shops close and the hordes go home, everything becomes quiet and magical. Our lovely room had been refitted to include a very modern (if snug) bathroom with separate toilet that we really appreciated. If we leaned out our window a bit we had good views. Below us was the restaurant deck but despite our concerns we were unbothered by noise. Clean, comfortable bed.
Review 81:Rooms are small and pretty high priced. You are definitely paying a premium for being on the island.
Review 82:It was an excellent location. Good opportunity to be on the island when all the tourists leave at 6pm and before they arrive at 9am. Good shower.
Review 83:Receptionist helpful but staff just poor (as tired) overpricedrestaurant poor access by Shuttle still poor as a lot of walking stillneeded. Some bathroom fittings not working poor coffee making facilitiessea view only just round the corner
Review 84:Mont St Michel as a whole
Review 85:All is nice. The restaurant set up is not the best and food is not as good
Review 86:View over the bay is excellent. You pay extra but worth it
Review 87:Staff and locals not very helpful
Review 88:Position
Review 89:Staying on the Mont was amazing and so much fun to explore when the crowds are not there.
Review 90:Not being given a complimentary bottle if water.
Review 91:Views, especially early and late when less people were present.
Review 92:The staff attitude when we arrived
Review 93:Location , Room itself
Review 94:Stairs upto the rooms are too small
Review 95:location, rooms interior, cleanlisness
Review 96:The hotel is In an excellent location! Our room was unique and had everything we needed.
Review 97:Noise
Review 98:Location
Review 99:Just be aware that there are a lot of stairs.
Review 100:view from the dining room
Review 101:Bad service, especially in the restaurant. Other tables came and went and we weren't able to order despite several attempts.
Review 102:Location was great
Review 103:no lift and a VERY small staircase
Review 104:staying on Mont St Michel is very special
Review 105:Better eat early. The restaurants close just after the last tourist leave for the day. Captive to the hotels that offer food.
Review 106:Location, of course
Review 107:Fabulous view from our window and super friendly staff.
Review 108:Staff member who checked us in seemed condescending and not client-service oriented. Check-in was in hotel two door away.
Review 109:Location was amazing!
Review 110:Tiny elevator, We had backpacks only but this would be an issue if you're carrying suitcases
Review 111:Large room with a view of city walls
Review 112:Can't think of anything
Review 113:Charming place and very nice people
Review 114:Charming. Very clean & quiet. Electric kettle, fridge & towel warmer. Great bathroom. Private (thru hotel) access to city wall 24 hrs.
Review 115:Nothing.
Review 116:Really helpful and freindly welcome by Katie, could not have asked for more. Brilliant location.
Review 117:Very tight space with luggage
Review 118:Location and view
Review 119:Spending the night on Mont St Michel was the highlight of our trip to France.
Review 120:We enjoy our weekend at the hotel
Review 121:nothing at all
Review 122:Beautiful location at the very heart of Mont Saint Michel - Loved the two level room and the great views
Review 123:Though the hotel was fine, it was too expensive for what it was, no breakfast included you had to pay etc. Room was small. I don't think its not worth staying on the island. Overpriced.
Review 124:This hotel has no elevator and its wayout is not convenient. The front wayout is closed after the restaurant is closed. So you must detour and another wayout is very dark at night.
Review 125:Clean and practical room.
Review 126:No one was available when we arrived to check-in at about 3 PM. The barman went off down the street and brought back a breathless girl who checked us in and urged us to book a window table in their restaurant for dinner. We immediately went to the restaurant and spoke to the hostess there who booked us in for a window table at 7:30. When we appeared a few minutes before the appointed time, we found the restaurant closed. We waited in the stairwell access. Eventually a man in the process of checking other people into the hotel came climbing by. He said the restaurant was closed, but that we could eat at a different restaurant down the street. He seemed to regard the fact that we had booked the table *in person* only a few hours before as irrelevant. The next morning, when we wanted to check out, again there was no one around. We went down the street to the next hotel and they sent someone over to check us out. This is truly a NO-service hotel. Incidentally, our room was described as a "fourth floor" location. It was 75 steps up a spiral staircase. Even knowing that 4th floor in European terms means 5th level, still didn't prepare us for this. We have stayed in absolutely elegant hotels with excellent service in France for less money than this hotel charges. I would definitely discourage anyone from using this facility.
Review 127:It was clean and the view from our room was good.
Review 128:Restaurant on the second floor, don't order deserts. Quite chaotic staff, long waiting for the bill, small portions of the meals, no salads. Long walk with suitcases from bus stop to hotel.
Review 129:Location, view on the monastery.
Review 130:The long walk from the carpark (5) to the shuttle, only to discover when we arrived at Mont St Michel that we could have had a closer priority parking area. No point getting this information after arrival in the hotel bedside manual!
Review 131:The staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 132:Don't take too much luggage as only tight spiral stair access to rooms. Ours on third floor but we knew in advance of stairs. Hotel pricing high as only 22 euro for 2 coffee and cake. Check out is at another hotel located down the road.
Review 133:Hotel located directly on mount st Michel. Easlily located and our room provided view over water and land. Room was clean but basic, bed comfortable.
Review 134:We arrived late afternoon on a very warm (high 80 degree) day. The hotelis in an old, historic building with no air conditioning, and was atleast a half mile walk away from the shuttle bus dropoff point. The roomwe were given (501) was on the street side of the hotel, away from baybreezes, and was very hot. The refrigerator was not working, and thecurtains were off the hooks. We asked to have the room changed, and weretold the hotel was full so that could not be accomodated (the next daythe manager indicated there were other rooms available). We were toldthat if we opened the room's sole window after 7:30 pm, the roomwould cool down. A staff member promptly showed up to check therefrigerator, but could not repair the it. Instead, he put in a bowl ofice...which melted promptly. We opened the window a little after 8 pm,but the room never cooled off. We asked for a fan, but were told by thereception person that "management" had a policy against usingfans. Ultimately, we had to prop open the door for the entire night tohave a semblance of air coming through the room, but it never got below80 degrees fahrenheit in the room that night. Because the window anddoor were open, street noise and noise from the restuarant and hotelguests walking by, which continued until after 1 pm and began withgarbage removal at 6 am the next morning, constantly woke us. A couplestaying in a room on the bay told us it was not hot, but our overallexperience was terrible (especially compared to the positives of all ourother hotels during our trip). In our view the hotel is not well run. Ipolitely related the problems we experienced and the requests we hadmade to the manager the next morning, and asked for an adjustment of theprice. When I finished, the man standing behind me said he had had thesame experience. The manager would not make any accomodation for theinconvenience to either of us. We do not recommend this hotel.
Review 135:Restaurant had a nice view.
The Fine Print
Please note that the nearest car park is 1.2 miles away. Guests must park there, take a shuttle bus and then walk 1,650 feet in order to reach the hotel located on the mount.
