Hotel El Castillo descritpion

This hotel is in a cliff-top castle overlooking the beach of Los Locos and the Bay of Biscay. Its headland location offers spectacular views of the sea and the dramatic coastline.
The castle is just 165 ft from the lighthouse of Suances – a tranquil seaside resort on the coast of the Cantabria region. Here you will also find clean, sandy beaches and pleasant green countryside. The castle was originally built in the 19th century by the Baron of Peramola. It now contains 9 rooms designed in a unique, eclectic style, all with fantastic sea views.
The area is popular among surfers and bathers for its beaches, which can be easily reached from the hotel. The Altamira Caves, 8 miles away, are famous for some of the earliest cave paintings known to man.

Reviews for Hotel El Castillo

Review 1:Great location, great spacious clean room with an amazing view. Staff were friendly. Can't believe it's not got a higher star rating. Great value for money.

Review 2:The only problem is the spiral staircase which would be extremely difficult for anyone with mobility problems. However, we were instantly offered help with our luggage.

Review 3:The location is amazing and the views on the headland are stunning, the room with the internal balcony has great views. The hotel is a half mile or so out of town but you can cross the road and then walk along the beach. There are only snacks available in the evening but there are plenty of good restaurants in town.

Review 4:The smell of dampness. Damp patches on the wall. Windows and frames running with water due to lack of ventilation. Side window directly above kitchen extractor, stinks of cooking. Enamel on bath chipped. Reception area tired and unwelcoming.

Review 5:The views.

Review 6:Wifi didn't really work for me in the room, so I had to sit in the lobby or bar to use the internet.

Review 7:Beautiful sitting room slightly offset from sleeping area made it feel like we were in a suite. The hotel is gorgeous and the views (270 degrees of ocean, beaches, and cliffs) truly spectacular. Friendly staff who speak excellent English. Good pizzas in the restaurant/bar.

Review 8:Menu and food choice uninspiring!

Review 9:Good location and a very attractive Facility.

Review 10:We paid a bit extra for the sea view room and it was definitely worth it! Loved the vintage style decor as well.

Review 11:Pillows

Review 12:Location, people, castle

Review 13:Stairs a bit tight

Review 14:Staff, roomy rooms, great towm

Review 15:Staircase to rooms

Review 16:Décor - charm

Review 17:We had twin beds even though we had specifically requested a double. The beds were too soft.

Review 18:The view from our bedroom was stunning.

Review 19:Steep Spiral Staircase enclosed within a concrete tube.

Review 20:Location, wonderful sea views

Review 21:The only thing I dind't like were the toilet amenities. Everything else was just what I expected - just perfect.

Review 22:Awesome view. Waking up with that View and the sound of the sea is priceless.

Review 23:During the winter, heat in the room was not enough powerful

Review 24:View to the beach, original decoration and building, very friendly staff. They allow pets. Muchas gracias!

Review 25:The hotel offer 2 breakfast options: Surfers breakfast includes coffee, organge juice, 2 rashers of bacon, egg etc for €6 which seemed good value and my husband enjoyed it, however, the continental breakfast which I opted for was a Croissant, glass of orange juice with tea or coffee for €6 which seemed very overpriced!

Review 26:The staff were very friendly and welcoming and our room was absolutely gorgeous with incredible views of the bay. Although we only ate breakfast in the hotel, the lunch/dinner food choices looked appetizing.

Review 27:Fantastic views of the beach and the Bay of Biscay from our room, Number 5. Best nights sleep while at the hotel. The bed was the most comfortable we have had in a hotel ever. The staff was eager to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Thank you very much.

Review 28:Room only had partial sea view Room was twin not double sea view as advertised Parking was in public area and was very busy in afternoon due to people going to the beach

Review 29:Near to beach Bed Character Separate seating area

Review 30:Heary walls, you could hear the chairs move alot next door, also someoneon our hall was smoking mariuana, so our floor smelt strong and this wasnot fun with having my daughter with me.

Review 31:I loved the vieuw from our window directly on the seaside, great room.Nice staff, good food!

Review 32:spiral staircase is a bit of a nuisance but well worth coping with.

Review 33:Magnificent location, staff very helpful. We have stayed twice now and have had very good rooms overlooking the bay complete with their own seperate sitting area. Takes dogs, parking good but during the season may be very busy during the day. Surfers breakfast very good value. Strongly recommend this hotel.

Review 34:Limited choice of menu if you choose to eat in the hotel but our supper of pizza was very good and well priced.

Review 35:The location is stunning and the hotel itself is very unusual in appearance in and out. The rooms are all individually designed and very large and comfortable with lovely sea views. We stayed overnight on our way to the ferry port at Santander as Suances is a lovely quiet location about 40 minutes from Santander with easy road access. The staff are mainly the family who own the hotel and were very friendly and spoke some English although most of their guests are Spanish. The dining room has great clifftop and sea views and the beach appeared to be a great favourite of surfers.

Review 36:There was an odour from the wardrobe which I think may have had a vent pipe behind it. Sometimes stronger than others. The hotel should look at it as it does spool what would otherwise be a fantastic room.

Review 37:Great location on a bluff overlooking two beaches. It was wild & windy the afternoon we arrived but the next 3 days were ideal. The hotel has a basic restaurant and there is a larger restaurant at another hotel just up the road which has a good selection. The staff were very friendly, and our room (#10) was huge with a separate sitting area and views to 2 sides.

Review 38:I would suggest more variety for the breakfast, even if it wasn'tbad at all!

Review 39:The hotel was great, if you love the sea the view from the rooms it'sjust stunning! We would fall asleep with the waves sound in our ears andwake up looking at the first surfers catching them. Simply amazing!!!!!!The staff is really nice and helpful, the hotel is clean, the wirelessworks pretty fast, perfect!!!

Review 40:Breakfast, Noise from other rooms

Review 41:Location, Cleanliness

Review 42:Little bit spooky place. A very narrow and uneasy stair in tower as only way up to rooms. No balconies to any rooms.

Review 43:seaview
