Hotel Casa del Marqués descritpion

Residence to the ‘Marquis of Santillana’ back in the 15th century, the building has now been carefully renovated into this delightful 5-star hotel. With such an intriguing history you will feel as if you have stepped back in time but with all the comforts of the present day.
The original oak staircase (made from a single tree trunk) is an impressive sight upon entering the hotel. Although fully equipped hotel with all the latest facilities there is a good balance between luxury, tradition and comfort.

Reviews for Hotel Casa del Marqués

Review 1:Not really a five star as we know it, but if they like to call it that, no problems. The hotel has no restaurant.

Review 2:Excellent value for money. Staff very friendly. Good car parking

Review 3:A beautiful old casa, superbly furnished. lovely ambience, in an authentic medieval village. Charming patio, nice bar and tiny breakfast area. We loved it!

Review 4:Just a small thing but hair dryer was a bit old. (like other Spanish hotels)

Review 5:Good location and spacious room! Also, very friendly staff helped us to find a good restaurant around. :) Parking was very good as well.

Review 6:Rather special hotel. Beautifully decorated (but a shame about the blue wall by the bar!) and a lovely atmosphere. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Review 7:The location was a little hard to find. GPS doesn't work there. But the hotel staff was very helpful when we called for directions, as were everyone we asked along the way.

Review 8:Loved the garden and the antique furniture. The staff was very attentive. Belen was efficient and helpful. I requested a bath mat for the bathtub for safety reasons and it was delivered immediately. Great breakfast buffet.

Review 9:Very noisy plumbing arrangements- woke us up early on the morning; very poor bath and shower arrangement; dangerous lighting arrangements on the stairs-needs motion activated sensors.

Review 10:Good location - friendly staff

Review 11:Can't think of much... I guess a a clunky lift is just being pedantic...

Review 12:The location of the hotel is fantastic - in the middle of the old town with all its rich history and also right next to some really nice eateries. Even better though is the staff who go out of their way to make your stay (at breakfast one guy went out to get my wife turkey slices because she doesn't eat pork - we didn't even ask!!)

Review 13:Definitively not a 5 stars Hotel ( international standard). the air conditioning is controlled by the reception! for the continental breakfast please you have to consider that you are limited to have just a piece of bread or a croissant!! finally, the payment is debited on your account when you make your reservation ...

Review 14:Not a bad experience but the Continental breakfast was restricted in quantity and did not represent value for money. Only one piece of bakery allowed and no yoghurt!. Please revise.

Review 15:Very comfortable hotel. Well trained and helpful staff.

Review 16:We had a a room overlooking the main cobbled street and it was noisy. Noise from late night revellers, bins bring out out at night and dragged across the cobbles and rubbish collections from very early in the morning.

Review 17:Lovely atmospheric hotel in an excellent location in the centre of the village.

Review 18:Everything about this hotel is a class above. The location is perfect, the old-world charm magical, the attention to detail marvellous. Highly, highly recommended.

Review 19:Difficult to find in busy pedestrian traffic first time. Need better directions within the village.

Review 20:Right on the Main Street. Helpful staff. Excellent furnishings

Review 21:The walls seem to be paper thin, in room lighting was poor.

Review 22:Historic Hotel and village, good breakfast, nice garden and communal areas, helpful reception staff.

Review 23:Nothing to not like!!

Review 24:Pure luxury. Everything excellent. Staff friendly. Different areas to sit. Outside terraces beautiful with flowers everywhere. Secure car park at back of hotel very good. Superb hotel. Fabulous!! Our room at back so quiet with balcony with table and chairs and sofa. Huge room. Huge comfy bed. Huge bathroom.

Review 25:We loved everything about the hotel.

Review 26:It was as beautiful as any Parador. Perhaps even more beautiful. The price is so reasonable for such a luxury hotel. Friendly staff and delicious breakfast too.

Review 27:Room 104 can be a little noisy as it's right next to the kitchen and dining area but that's no detriment to the actual room which has a lovely balcony.

Review 28:The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Private secure parking was great for our motorbikes. The location is ideal for seeing the town. The actual hotel is beautifully maintained. Our second stay here and we weren't disappointed.

Review 29:the place is touristy. by the coach load. consistent with most hotels in Europe, no kettle.

Review 30:almost made you feel as if you were back in time, felt really historic, but at the same time with a TV and Jacuzzi bath. staff were very helpful. Didn't eat there, so can't comment.

Review 31:The professionalism of the owner and staff. The hotel is very beautiful and authentic, but with modern features. The room was comfortable, big and with features that make you feel like you were in a medioeval Castle. In fact, the hotel is located in a medioeval village name Santillana del Mar.

Review 32:There is nothing not to like.

Review 33:Everything, the ambience , the facilities, the grounds, the secure parking, the location, wonderful hardworking and friendly staff.a beautiful room with balcony overlooking the courtyard.

Review 34:Nothing

Review 35:In the centre of a lovely medieval village with great local restaurant within 20 metres . Very large room well appointed and very high end. Staff extremely helpful and informative.

Review 36:We had noisy people near our room. Our room 201 was very nice, large, quirky. Only problem there was no view as the windows were in the ceiling and we could only see out to the sky!

Review 37:Santillana del Mar is an essential visit if only to experience the 12th Century Romanesque former monastery Colegiata de Santa Juliana and, to do so, the 15th Century Mansion 5* Hotel Casa de Marques provides the perfect hostelry. For us this was our first taste of Cantabrian architecture; beautiful lounges and gardens on the ground floor, and traditional bedrooms above. Food and service could not be faulted and our only criticism would be the 'thin' walls on the second floor. Otherwise we could not have chosen a more comfortable and enjoyable hotel.A great breakfast and specially recommended.

Review 38:The architecture, situation and beautiful gardens. Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely bedrooms, comfortable beds. Car parking convenient, excellent wifi and massage facility

Review 39:To stay in Santillana - in a place like this - makes it all that more special... We have no hesitation in saying we would stay there again... And recommend it to our friends!

Review 40:Wooden floorboards look fantastic but be warned, they squeak!

Review 41:Beautifully renovated building in heart of town. Attractive terrace. Pleasant bar. Good bathroom with jacuzzi. Great price. Parking available at rear.

Review 42:Didn't care for the long single-piece pillow, which propped up your head for reading , but made for an uncomfortable night of sleep. Additional soft pillows in the closet helped. The hotel confessed to having down trouble with the air condition in our two rooms - thankfully, we were able to open the skylight windows, to cool the room.

Review 43:Rooms have a good amount of space, and we appreciated the extra space between our connecting rooms - about the size of a small child's room! Also liked having the closet space and a separate luggage area outside the bathroom. Loved the old wood beams and gorgeous rugs and staircases. The privste outdoor garage where we parked allowed our car to disappear in a place with few cars about.

Review 44:Parking was an extra fee unless you parked in the public lot about three blocks away.

Review 45:It is a nicely renovated old building (15th century?), which is a very pleasant old village with many historic buildings. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 46:Our room was at the front of the building and road noise might be a problem in the height of the season. However in March it was quiet after 9pm.

Review 47:Tasteful restoration of an old house to provide a hotel with modern amenities. Staff friendly, helpful and spoke good English. Breakfast was outstanding - the best I have had in mainland Europe and even provided fresh fried eggs and bacon - almost unheard of outside the UK.

Review 48:Would choose a room, if available, further away from the lift which we noticed on this occasion but had not on a previous visit.

Review 49:Everything, can't comment on the food as we ate out for dinner and breakfast with lots of choice nearby.

Review 50:Santillana is less than 1/2 hour from Santander, so it makes a perfect 1st stop if you travel with your car via Brittany Ferries. It is an amazing tiny town with unspoilt square and a couple of streets of mediaeval and renaissance town palaces, and a very fine romanesque abbey. Hotel Casa del Marquez, in one 15th century palace, is small, perfectly placed, and very well run. Parking in their courtyard. Large comfortable room, good breakfast, attentive staff.

Review 51:No restaurant and the breakfast area was uninviting. The air con was turned off during the day so if you returned to the room it was hot and uncomfortable. Not 5 star in our opinion.

Review 52:Both the room and hotel communal areas had character and was in a good location. Secure parking for the car.

Review 53:Right in the middle of an ancient village. House has great history yet well converted into hotel. Loads of restaurants close by. Very good breakfast. Has own secure parking at the back. Good value

Review 54:Breakfast if you had a continental it was juice tea and one piece of toast. Had to ask for another piece of toast. Cooked breakfast was more like a continental.

Review 55:Nothing!

Review 56:Amazing location, not too far from the ferry yet another world, and building wonderful. The reception was very friendly and welcoming. Very comfortable olde worlde room with great balcony overlooking pretty garden. Excellent beds, pillows, sheets, bathroom, tranquility - everything. Couldn't have asked for more. We will return!

Review 57:Breakfast was a bit sparse. The place was not easy to find, especially when there were crowds of tourists trolling along the street; and then you realized entrance to parking was at the back. Fortunately help was at hand and hassle was minimized. In any case all streets in Santillana were narrow.

Review 58:Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent location for visitors keen on staying in Santillana del Mar.

Review 59:We tried to reduce our stay by one day due to changed travel plans. We tried this 10 days in advance via computer but the message said we couldn't, although the reservation stipulated free cancelation. When we got there and tried again, they said we needed to do it at least 7 days in advance. Check the cancellation policies closely. We were glad we stayed in the end but we still believe it was misleading.

Review 60:The outdoor leisure area is stunning. It's always wonderful to have a place to relax, especially outside, when staying in a hotel.

Review 61:Nothing, we had a perfect stay.

Review 62:The hotel is located right in the middle of the historical town center with direct access to bars and restaurants. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and are equipped with a big bathroom. There is also an easy accessible parking on-site which is very convenient. The hotel staff was also really friendly and got out of their way to help and make our stay as pleasant as possible. We ordered breakfast in the room on two different occasions and I must say it's the best breakfast delivered through room-service I have ever seen.

Review 63:Much smaller than I envisaged. Room had sloping ceiling The breakfast area was small. Did not eat there as it was expensive for what you got. Much cheaper across the road. Not much atmosphere in the very small bar.Very pretty but very small garden/sitting area. Heavy keys for doors which were noisy when guests arrived in. No restaurant facilities(room service) 4 star yes 5 star no! Parking good but pricey

Review 64:Location in the centre of the medieval town The peaceful lounge furnished with antique objects

Review 65:Airco was switched off several times by reception. Garden area small

Review 66:Excellent location. Right in the middle of "the action" but manages to feel very quiet. Nicely appointed room & bathroom under the eaves (which also meant no view). Great breakfast

Review 67:We loved the position of the hotel in this extremely pretty Spanish village. Hotel was perfect for a one night stopover while driving through this area although it would be a good base to stay fr longer. Luxurious accommodation and attentive staff.

Review 68:We stayed 2 nights. Probably better to stay in Comillas and take a short trip to Santilliana

Review 69:The beaches around the city. Small historical town. Casa del Marques is a nice hotel, but probably not 5 star standard. Good parking.

Review 70:A superb stay. Best one in our 10 days trip in the north. Staff (especially reseption at nightshift and afternoon) funny, lovable and helpsome. Highly recommended.

Review 71:Although beautiful & very historical, Santillana del Mar isn't a "living " town. It felt like a theme park, with restaurants & shops geared up for the tourist trade.

Review 72:Fabulous old building, beautifully renovated.

Review 73:Nothing (but be aware that you are staying in a medieval house and not in a modern design styled hotel)

Review 74:Location, private parking, WIFI, staff, decorum, garden, ...

Review 75:Poor breakfast choice for what we paid, lack of good outside sitting space - garden taken for car park. Room had only velux window but others had windows in walls - need to specify if want the latter

Review 76:Prime location, beautiful period furnishings furnishings, car parking on site (although charged )

Review 77:Had on sight car parking. Beautiful hotel . Everything at your finger tips. Charming room in fact the whole place was full of character. Old school furnishings through out. A real place to relax in clientele only facilities. A lovely and private courtyard topped this experience off.

Review 78:Lack of restaurant. Because of this it is overpriced.

Review 79:Quiet rooms and garden. Quality furniture and fittings throughout. Private secure car parking.

Review 80:I think the bathroom might need renovation?, because it smelled like there could be damage related to moisture/mold.

Review 81:The building and the interior/furniture/stile. The staff was very service minded and speak very well english. The location.

Review 82:Firvwhatbit is there s nothing not to like, perhaps a few more local souvenirs, though they are better than most

Review 83:A beautiful old small village, well maintained and a fabulous place to visit and stay, quite unique, we wish there were more like it in the world. Highly recommended

Review 84:Due to our late arrival, and only one night stay, the only thing we didn't like was , staying the one night !!

Review 85:Our ferry to Santander was delayed 7 hours, but we were met in the car park by a very pleasant man who immediately took our luggage to our room. All the staff were professional and friendly.

Review 86:Our bedrooms were linked by a little sitting room where we could sit and chat together. Very quiet in a quaint town Staff very helpful. Excellent restaurants nearby

Review 87:The pillows were a uncomfortable and for the price breakfast should have been included as well as parking which was 10 a day. The staff were friendly but the air con did not work in our room

Review 88:Amazing location right in the centre and very pretty gardens. Spotlessly clean

Review 89:At times I missed having a window to see outside.

Review 90:The hotel was very charming. Many historic qualities have been preserved and well maintained.

Review 91:Ancient building in an ancient setting, proud of the blemishes of history. Multiple plush sitting rooms with fires in hearths. Loved the room.

Review 92:Everything! Great place to stop after leaving the ferry at Santander

Review 93:Avery special historic building in a very special town

Review 94:The location in the heart of the quaint town is a huge draw for me.

Review 95:Great value

Review 96:Everything

Review 97:Great location, nicely furnished, atmospheric.

Review 98:Marvellous building and room with balcony; helpful and friendly staff.

Review 99:Too expensive

Review 100:The room is big and very nice. The location is very good

Review 101:Nil

Review 102:Staff, cleanliness, comfort, style etc

Review 103:Beds were hard, bad lighting in rooms. Did not include breakfast, which was expensive.

Review 104:Location, comfort, staff, cleanliness--all outstanding.

Review 105:A beautiful building very tastefully restored and furnished. Lovely sitting areas in the pretty garden On site parking, pre book

Review 106:Really nice hotel with a lot of history

Review 107:Single beds for a couple!!!!

Review 108:Location, Friendly staff, Nice Ambience

Review 109:Expensive

Review 110:Great hotel but too expensive compared to other places we have stayed with similar facilities

Review 111:Nothing.

Review 112:Everything. I rate it as high as anywhere I've ever stayed. It was equisite.

Review 113:LOvely ambiance, very obliging and helpful staff

Review 114:The building was beautifully restored, and the location was fantastic.

Review 115:The history of the buliding and the private parking- although at an extra price

Review 116:Difficult to find in town

Review 117:Fantastic staff and beautiful old building
