Reviews for Auberge de la Paix

Review 1:The food in the restaurant was a little expensive and not great quality.

Review 2:A typical French auberge, beautifully decorated, cosy, perfectly placed in the cité Vauban

Review 3:Old and small bathroom with a sanibroyeur (!). Matresses could use replacement.

Review 4:Lovely location but parking nearby is difficult. Restaurant serves good meals, although it's fairly small and crowded.

Review 5:Not an issue for us but you cannot get closer than 100m by car as private cars not allowed in old town.

Review 6:In centre of walled city, very welcoming and helpful staff. One of us was not well second evening and when cancelling their dinner booking staff immediately offered sandwiches or other food for the room. We had large ensuite room, some rooms not ensuite. Restaurant meals good choice, good value and well cooked/presented. This is an old building so rooms are converted as best possible compromise to fit ensuite in. Very relaxed stay.

Review 7:No airconditioning

Review 8:Friendly staff, excellent location in the old town to explore the town (but can't drive directly to the auberge so call them in advance and they will tell you to first park in the public parking and go and get a remote control "key" to access the old town by car), clean rooms, good breakfast, dining possibility with good food in the restaurant run by the Auberge owners. This is an old auberge so no airconditioning. Nice atmosphere.

Review 9:The location is perfect. You have to walk to the hotel to get the gate entry key to park, but once you are at the hotel, it is perfect. The staff is excellent, very welcoming. The room is quaint and makes you feel as if you lived in this charming, ancient town 100 years ago. The views are spectacular. And the dinner in the hotel was absolutely delicious.

Review 10:Great Aurberge if you enjoy the French Style, Alpine Mts., and a combination historic and working day town. We enjoy all 3, so we highly recommend Auberge de la Paix.

Review 11:Small bathroom; tight space around bed

Review 12:It was a wonderful experience to stay at this quaint, charming hotel. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff. Fabulous dinner, terrific breakfast. Great location for shopping and exploring. Loved my stay and highly recommend for others

Review 13:We were surprised with our room, particularly considering the reviews. It was tiny, the bathroom even more so - so much that you had to turn sideways to use shower, sink or toilette. The shower didn't drain and walls and floors felt old, worn and were full of dust clumps. We can't fault cleaning staff, I don't know how they would be able to clean given the room size. For the oom rate we would not return. Have been in Italy and France for 2 months and not seen this kind of accomodation at half the price. Perhaps other rooms are better?

Review 14:Wonderful host, young lady who was the best part of our stay. The bed was very comfortable as were the linens. Restaurant was closed during our stay, but reviews were good and the room looked inviting.

Review 15:The property is older and therefore small, creaky and cramped. There is no air conditioning so the heat of the day had to be released by an open window. That is not a problem but the church bell next door rings loudly on the hour and half-hour. Wifi is very weak in the rooms and only works well in the lobby.

Review 16:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location in the walled city was very nice and the room was newly renovated and generally clean.

Review 17:No prior knowledge about key, we followed a resident in to car park

Review 18:Very old building in historic town inside a walled fortress with excellent history, very quaint, worth staying, however old town has bollards to enter parking area where you need a key from hotel 100m to right through car park

Review 19:The auberge is a bit run down / out dated. The room is small and the bathroom is tiny. Have to climb over the WC to reach the narrow shower.

Review 20:Location is excellent - right in the old fortress of Briancon. The staff and food are good, though do not expect more than a standard French breakfast (old bread with jam and coffee or tea).

Review 21:Rooms in dire need of refurbishment.

Review 22:Location. Charm

Review 23:A delightful old hotel with much character. Very handy to sights & staff were wonderful & spoke clear English.

Review 24:The best location. Very friendly staff. Good food. Clean.

Review 25:Friendly and helpful proprietors, good location.

Review 26:In the middle of the old town, friendli staff, nice room and delicious breakfast. We had a wonderful time there.

Review 27:the kindness of the receptionist

Review 28:disco next door with loud music untill 3 in the morning

Review 29:great restaurant and great room and friendly staff

Review 30:As others have pointed out, car parking is not right outside but that's good, it retains the olde world charm. However you have to accept that you have to carry your bags down narrow cobbled streets so travel light!

Review 31:Quirky, olde world place tucked away in the streets of the old citie. Very atmospheric, decent breakfast.

Review 32:Auberge de la Paix was a quaint hotel that was comfortable. It was nice to have a shower and toilet in the room. The main person at the desk had a great sense of humor. The restaurant in the hotel was very good. I would recommend this hotel to other friends and family.

Review 33:Loud noise until 4 in the morning and nothing could be done

Review 34:nice location in the old city

Review 35:Perfect location in the old Vauban fortress. Very friendly personnel and beautiful, old style, decorated room.
