Reviews for Hotel de la Plage

Review 1:We were 3 and took the room for 4 to have a bit of space/ privacy. Good room. A bit noisy on the street (bus 3 route), good bed.

Review 2:Really nice staff (owner at check in and lady at breakfast) - simple yet comfortable and well located. Don't expect a view on the beach though (despite the name).

Review 3:Not the place to go if you like 4 star comfort, probably not the place for a fortnight's holiday but we enjoyed the student feel, would certainly stay again.

Review 4:Despite a very unprepossessing exterior, the lobby etc was quite attractive. The reception guy was very helpful. The room was quite tiny and sparse, more like student hostel accommodation but very clean and quite attractive. A few minutes walk from the beach. Would certainly recommend it for a stopover (we were going for the ferry the next morning). Good value for money.

Review 5:i booked a twin room because two men travelling together so wanted two beds what we got was a verry small room with one bed

Review 6:staff was helpfull and friendly but could not speak english

Review 7:Can't check in until 1630 - but we know this when we book.

Review 8:Clean bed and room, hot water, handy for No.3 bus, heating adequate. The room was simply equipped and a basic French breakfast was served. For a hotel at the cheaper end of the range in Dunkerque, it was good value. And it is indeed quite close to the beach. I'd stay again.

Review 9:The two single beds joined together and everytime I went to give my partner a hug in bed the mattresses would slide and separate causing me to fall into the crack.

Review 10:Stefan the owner and receptionist is very helpful with internet searches for my trains and buses etc to my next destination. Lovely location close to beach and supermarket and only a 20 mon walk to the city centre.

Review 11:We arrived after 8pm (which they list as the deadline for checking in). Our ferry was late, and I emailed them to say we would be late, and why. When we arrived, the hotel was locked up and in darkness. When we called the number we were told there were no rooms. He found us another (dearer) hotel, but it wasn't a good experience

Review 12:The hotel looked modern and clean and was in a good position

Review 13:Good value, budget hotel - clean and warm, friendly helpful staff. rang me to make sure I could get in after reception had shut.

Review 14:Parking difficult.

Review 15:Spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed. Plenty of hot water.

Review 16:You get what you pay for

Review 17:free parking around the hotel friendly staff

Review 18:The manager was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Nice breakfast

Review 19:No lift

Review 20:Close to sea

Review 21:Helpfulness of staff, layout of the room

Review 22:Room very very basic. Not even a kettle. kettle is a must in all hotel rooms.

Review 23:Get what you pay for. Only stayed one night at the end of the day it's a bed.

Review 24:2 star France = 3 star Germany the smell on the corridor and in the room size of the bathroom, way to small for a family room, and no ventilation in the bathroom breakfast a few thinks, no eggs, no bacon, no salami, no ham - very poor

Review 25:the room was clean and the staff was ok

Review 26:Very friendly and responsible staff, clean room, soft bed, bathroom extremely neat. Recomendations for all - stay here if you travel to UK or back to continent through Dunkerque or Calais. Or just go there if you want to spent few more days in that city.

Review 27:Good for one, maybe two nights, but not comfortable enough for a longer stay. Walls are thin, furniture a bit wornout. Breakfast was OK, but could do with some cheese or meat

Review 28:The place is clean, but very basic, a bit F1 style, but with a personal touch of the very friendly manager. Close to the beach.

Review 29:Able to access room late at night after reception closed with passnumber and room left unlocked so less stress as eurotunnel delayed onGood Friday by 2 hours so didnt get to hotel til after midnight cot andlinen was left for us on request so could put baby in straight awayafter long journey comfortable beds, very clean rooms and bathroomprompt response from manager to my email very courteous manager

Review 30:It was hard to find and parking on the street is limited. Also furtherfrom ferry terminal than I thought.

Review 31:It was available at the last minute so options were limited.

Review 32:No tea/coffee facilities in the room, so outside the reception hours you'll struggle to get a warm drink from the hotel.

Review 33:Good value for money, independent hotel. Close to the beach, nice and clean, accommodating owner, he found room for our bikes in his garage so we didn't have to leave them in the road overnight.

Review 34:No tea and coffee in the room, it was very basic. It was very noisy outside with passers by during the night.

Review 35:It was clean, and in a good location for Dunkirk.

Review 36:Never again! We just wondering that booking.com also has such type ofcell as hotel to offer! The room not more than a wc bigger. The wc andbath itself less than 1m². Not recommended!!

Review 37:The fact that we were woken up at 8.00 am by the sound of a drill which turned out to be workmen next door of us fixing bits in the room. It probably was an exception but it was not too good as we only had a limited amount of sleep and could have slept on especially with the hour time difference.

Review 38:Easy parking on the road as the hotel stated that there was no parking this turned out to be no problem. Don't forget contacting them when you are arriving late, as we did, for we missed the ferry . The hotel gave us the code and instructions about the room and there was no further problem entering the premises. Breakfast in the morning really good and very attentive service in a nice environment

Review 39:We felt the breakfast was a little overpriced for the quality/choice given.

Review 40:Staff friendly and spoke a bit of English to help alongside our poor French vocabulary. Room clean and comfy.

Review 41:The corridor smelt musty - but the room itself was fresh and clean.

Review 42:The staff were friendly (and patient with my French!). The room was clean and the location excellent: very close to the seafront, and in a nice part of town. We didn't eat breakfast but the reception area/breakfast room is decorated with lovely art.

Review 43:Everything was great ;)

Review 44:Great and very clean rooms, tasty breakfast, extremely friendly and helpful staff. Very close to the sea and in several minutes form city center

Review 45:The room was small and had no tea or coffee making facilities. The FreeWiFi requires a code\password so we did not use this service as wearrived late (or course we would have enquired earlier when we phonedfor the door code). The price was higher than a good travel lodge in theuk and if the room had been larger, the price would have beencompetitive.

Review 46:The Staff were accommodating even after their 8pm cut off point forcheck in at which time you have to phone beforehand and arrange for theback door code. However, depending on who you speak to will depend onhow well your French needs to be. Also, although they gave us the codefor the door (its the back door to the hotel), they did not explain thisso we had to search around the hotel before we found it. They gave usthe room number and the key was on the table in the room. We arrivedafter midnight so this was excellent to be able to gain access afterhours. The room was small (see below) but warm and clean.

Review 47:My only critism was that we were unfortunate to have some noisy young girls in the room next door that kept singing in loud voices most of the night. However, the reception was closed overnight and nobody in the hotel with authority so you could not request that they spoke to them. The reception was also closed when we arrived with a note on the door to telephone and we have to wait for someone to arrive to open the hotel.

Review 48:The hotel was good value for money. The location was good and the facilities were clean.

Review 49:Bedrooms and bathrooms were very compact. Breakfast was good but wouldhave liked the option of fruit salad or yogurt on the cold buffet table.

Review 50:Friendly staff. Good location within walking distance of the shops andthe beach. Reception and dining area had interesting retro furniture andart. Hotel was spotlessly clean.

Review 51:Our only problem was the room we were given did not have wifi or anyinternet access. As we run a business this was very important that Ihave access and that was one of the reasons we choose that hotel! Wecould not be moved as the hotel was full. Also we were worried that wehad to park in the street as our car was really fully laden. But we didnot have any problem.Everything was as we left it the next morning.

Review 52:The manager was very kind and helpful. He spoke very good English andwas always smiling.
