Reviews for Hôtel Welcome - Dunkerque Centre

Review 1:Overpriced.Bad smell in the room. Hospital beds. Noisy radiators. Have had to bleed because they were not working. No shower only a bath. Not enough towels for 3. Continous buzzing transformer noise in the room i presume from the elevator. No kettle no microwave etc. Been staying in many french hotels and this hotel was not even close to 1 star.

Review 2:Nothing

Review 3:> Staff was more or less friendly, but was not able to speak a few more words in another language than french. We asked for breakfast, we asked for the next gas station and we asked for parking. Everything was hard to impossible to understand for the staff. For a town which has the ferry terminal to UK, this is a no-go. (This was not our first stay in France) > Worst: The room smelled like color-thinner or wet paint or something. Made us headaches during the night. After the experiences with the check-in, we decided not to complain, as the staff wouldn't understand anyway... > The matresses were absolutely torn. Even without lying on it one could feel the metal-springs coming trough.

Review 4:> Good location to the ferry-terminal > Very spacious room

Review 5:No plug for the bath, handgrips or safety mat so difficult. We thought that the breakfast was good but overpriced!

Review 6:The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful

Review 7:We were in room 19...was very small and had a strange smell..couldn't get a drink from bar in evening..

Review 8:Good location in the centre of Dunkerque...nice clean hotel

Review 9:Staff extremely helpful. Continental breakfast was plentiful plus freshly boiled eggs. Delicious filter decaf coffee available. Clean, warm, quiet and comfortable room and bathroom. Shampoo, soap and moisturiser plus plenty of towels. Basic facilities only needed for an overnight stay to have a look around Dunkirk and catch the ferry. Much better than expected. Parking available underneath hotel at a daily charge but free parking on street from 6pm to 9am. And around 1€10 per hour afterwards. Parked a campervan in front of the hotel and completely safe. Staff on duty all night. Ideal for business visitors, has laundry service, conference rooms etc. Right in the centre and a short walk from the Marina. Cinema (cine) and show ground at Marina ten min walk away with MacDonald's, Italian Restaurant and another local popular (chain) restaurant based in complex.

Review 10:Breakfast was optional 10 euros each which was usual standard fare and I thought 10 euros was too much for what you got. Didn't partake but was able to just buy a coffee to get us going

Review 11:Secure (chargeable) parking. Good location. Fantastic rooms and bathroom. Clean. Easy. Great for one night stopover before heading to calais next day to come home. Fairly central. Close to harbour with good restaurants. Cheap for what you get. Really good value for money

Review 12:ended up being a bit far from the train station (ie could not walk to the hotel in nightime and taxis were scarce)

Review 13:polite welcome in the middle of the night

Review 14:I booked about forty days in advance and asked for parking but none available . In gained I was able to park outside front door free as it was weekend .

Review 15:Great location and pleasant staff

Review 16:we had booked a garage, but was told none available - had to prove -with a read-out that we had. Receptionist unprofessional and off-hand.Halls and corridors very dark-dangerous

Review 17:comfortable beds clean room

Review 18:The was a general musky smell in the bedroom and the cleanlisness was fairly poor as the bathrrom fan was covered in dust and various marks on the walls. But at the end of the day it served the purpose of a bed for the night at a reasonably low cost

Review 19:The location of the hotel was close to plenty of resturants for evening food

Review 20:Location and price looked good. To be fair, we booked but didn't actually stay as we discovered that our car wouldn't fit in the car park. We had just struggled at the previous hotel and were fed up with car parks that turned out to have height restrictions and were underground but were not clearly shown as such when booking. We emailed this hotel and were told that their car park was also underground and height restricted. We gave up and just caught an earlier ferry.

Review 21:Some noise from outside late in the evening (music from a nearby square) - maybe just a one-off problem

Review 22:Good city centre location and excellent stopover from ferry Pleasant reception staff Reasonable-sized room and bathroom for the price

Review 23:Whole hotel smelt of burning electrical smell no carpet in room needs major updates. Felt like i was at faulty tower definitely wouldn't go back

Review 24:The exit door

Review 25:-Breakfast is utterly expensive for the food presented. -Although itwasn't even mid-summer, the rooms were bleeding hot, no chance onany temperature control and windows open means constant squeakingseagulls. -The receptionists don't speak any other language thanFrench. -The street in which the Hotel is situated is filthy. -Themattress was horrible.

Review 26:-The receptionist sent us to quite a nice restaurant around the corner.

Review 27:Smelly, Staff didn't speak English, Hotel Car park difficult to negotiate very small and full of rubbish and laundry, dangerous with a cordoned off are covered by metal planks as large hole. Very scary trying to park.

Review 28:Position

Review 29:The smell of raw sewage in the underground parking spaces, although we paid for breakfast we couldn't face it due to the horrid smell.

Review 30:Good location

Review 31:Dark grey paint in upstairs corridor making it very difficult to see dark light switch poor lighting in corridors. No acknowledgement from staff on leaving, thanks or goodbye.

Review 32:Friendly hotel, very clean, good quality bed linen and comfy beds. Helpful receptionist on arrival, quick check in. No on site parking unless pre Booked , had to park in street outside which is pay and display in daytime but free overnight.

Review 33:Basic hotel no tea or coffee facilities ,car parking poor ,very noisy if on lower floors could do with revamp looks tired. Local area makes you nervous when dinkng out ,cars racing up and down and Police highly visible

Review 34:Staff friendly and helpful

Review 35:No tea/coffee/kettle in room. Carpet dirty and covered in hair, had not been hovered.

Review 36:Good location, near to Car ferry. Very near to Belgium Border. Stayed in twin room, Basic but good value for money. Nice selection at breakfast. Parking under ground very secure.

Review 37:wifi not working -not a disaster - car parking under hotel an adventure in itself- not recommended for people of a nervous disposition !

Review 38:excellent location -friendly staff

Review 39:Nothing!

Review 40:Very comfortable hotel in the centre of Dunkirque, with easy access to a range of good restaurants. Good safe car parking. Ideal before opr after the ferry!!

Review 41:For a non smoking hotel we were not expecting cig burns on bedside table and strong smell of stale smoke in room, however we opened the large windows which helped and had a good nights sleep. The parking is very secure but very limited and tricky to get in and out of in our 4x4.

Review 42:Location. Comfort. Value. Friendly staff. Had a very good sleep in comfy bed. Secure parking.

Review 43:I was given a master key to all rooms. I found this out by accident in a mix up between room 12 and 12B! The manager said they had no other key so let me keep the master key!!!! Some people at the bar commented they had the same issue last year, hence if you fancy sharing your stuff this is definitely the place to stay.

Review 44:Beds comfortable, rooms okay, clean but tatty around the edges. Carpets old, worn and grubby. Corridors painted dark grey. Looked like a place in need of an overhaul.

Review 45:Very dark corridors had to grope to fine intermittent light switch. Room very strong smell of paint or glue, no window shutters so had to sleep with windows closed. Bath had no hand rail nor emergency pull switch. Had to hang onto shower curtain.

Review 46:Hotel's position. Very laid back management very quite Room

Review 47:Scruffy grey and frayed towels. Very expensive breakfast. Would like to have had coffee , croissant and a glass of juice at few euros only. I was told this was not possible

Review 48:Central. Reasonable value for money

Review 49:Decor of the hotel - It had obviously recently been 'redecorated' - by that I mean painted. Corridor on the 1st floor was chocolate brown which made it feel dark & dingy especially as there is no natural light near the lift. Matt paint had been used which was already showing signs of scuffs and scratches on the walls leaving the paint underneath showing through. Part of the bathroom had been painted a lurid red above head height, but even that showed evidence of scratches. It takes more than a fresh coat of paint to cover up the fact that the hotel is in need of a some major renovation. Breakfast offered probably the most basic selection I have seen in any hotel & wasn't particularly appetising.

Review 50:24 hour reception - I arrived at nearly 2AM. Clean & Comfortable bed. Close to ferry ports of Calais & Dunkirk.

Review 51:The bedroom was spacious and well fitted. The bar area, also the breakfast area, was inviting and spacious. we only stayed for one night, but would book again if we returned to Dunkerque.

Review 52:The reserved parking at 9 Eorus a day is not necessary. There is plenty of free parking in the street out front, which is well lit all night and quite safe.

Review 53:Fairly central location within walking distance of city centre. Safe area and well lit after dark. The waterfront area is a pleasant stroll from the hotel.

Review 54:The radiators wasn't working and was cold ... The bad was giving me back pain ... The room was old and unkempt, and not so clean as it should have been ...

Review 55:Location . The friendly receptionist. WiFi... Hot water ....

Review 56:On arrival receptionist gave us key to a room, when we went there it was already occupied !! Receptionist acted like it was our fault !! Room terrible, carpet so dirty. Bathroom had lots of mould in it. Would avoid this hotel.

Review 57:Receptionist in morning was nice

Review 58:Can't really think of any. If anything the room was to hot but we turned the heating off and opened a window and it was fine

Review 59:Great hotel with lovely comfy beds. We paid the 10 euro to have breakfast and it was absolutely fine eat as much as you like, don't expect full English it was a continental breakfast in peaceful surroundings. we all enjoyed it.We were lucky to be able to park right outside the hotel and it was free as you don't pay overnight parking. We had to go out in the morning at 9 am and put a parking ticket on. But overall it was lovely

Review 60:No shower, only bath with hand held shower. No kettle, therefore no tea/coffee making facilities.

Review 61:Comfortable beds Good tv with BBC News & Sky news

Review 62:We just needed a stop-over conveniently placed for the ferry terminus, and so had selected from a number of town centre hotels. We arrived mid afternoon and were welcomed and assisted by a very pleasant young man on Reception. We had a really pleasant evening in Dunkerque and have decided that we would like to get to know it better. No town centre is really convenient for the ferry which is situated at Loon Plage quite a good drive from the town. We would certainly use the Welcome Hotel when we return to the town. Our room was generously sized, clean and comfortable. Tea/coffee facilities in the room would be an improvement .

Review 63:A few little things took the edge off the stay - the shower head couldn't support its own weight, there was no satellite tv, the wifi slow, and the double bed was two singles pushed together.

Review 64:The hotel was clean and tidy, and a good option for a budget stay. It backs onto a courtyard which was a little noisy but was perfect for the Saturday market.

Review 65:We arrived late at night to stay just the one night, but the hotel was very helpful even when I had to inform them that we were going to be later still. The room was clean and pleasant and the continental breakfast just right to send us on our journey. We would not hesitate in staying there again.

Review 66:It was just dirty and old. You can see it already in the elevator witha huge stain and it continues in the room where I would not even walk barefoot. The furniture was not adjusted for the romm and took too much place. We had no space to move. We paid 60 euros for the room and considering the dirt and the luck of space it was not worth it!

Review 67:I could easily find parking in front of the hotel

Review 68:Wi-Fi was a bit hit & miss, didn't always work

Review 69:The location is ideal for visiting some of the Historic sites in the area. Staff very friendly & helpful. Lots of restaurants very close by

Review 70:Rooms and decorations a little tired

Review 71:Good location. Close to town centre and convenient for ferry. Helpful staff. Secure basement parking (at an extra charge)

Review 72:Breakfast disappointing at 10 euro and service somewhat lacking, ie milkran out, no spoons for boiled egg

Review 73:Central location, parking nearby ( metered) clean rooms, comfy beds, pleasant staff

Review 74:It just needs new flooring throughout, paint brightening up in the corridors and then it would be perfect!

Review 75:Staff were super-friendly, kind and helpful. Beds spacious, clean and comfortable. Everything very clean, breakfasts great.

Review 76:Plastic feel to the carpets in the rooms. No tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. Wifi was very hit and miss

Review 77:Staff were very accommodating and very friendly. Location was very central.

Review 78:Little dated Expensive breakfast (when you can get bread and cake from just a few doors away)

Review 79:Comfy beds Hangers for your clothes Free WiFi Hair-dryer Plenty of plug sockets Cheap and cheerful - You get what you pay for

Review 80:Poor decoration very dark corridors painted dark brown and poorly lit stairs, dirty carpets which were very thin and worn, marks on bedroom walls, no extra pillows a available, towels thin and very worn, toilet stained, no replacement shower gel despite it being used first night, no safe in room or tea making facilities, no air conditioning, no toilets in bar area, breakfast poor only cornflakes, cold meat and bread rolls for 10 euros extra!

Review 81:Location

Review 82:Probably my own fault, but I made a mistake between "port" and "beach". The hotel isn't particularly close to the beach if you want to walk there. It might be helpful to note this clearly in the advertising.

Review 83:Beautifully clean hotel with an excellent breakfast and helpful staff.

Review 84:Very pleasant reception on first checking in to hotel, made us feel very welcome, and spoke really good English room was tidy and bed very comfortable

Review 85:Not enough information about parking

Review 86:Receptionist on arrival was friendly and helpful Large room with very good facilities Small bar that was handy to wind down the evening

Review 87:The Hotel is unsafe. There is a emergency firestair outside which ic inviting People to enter the Hotel. Glas already broken. I will not recommend to book this Hotel!

Review 88:Car parking 9 euros a little costly breakfast 10 euros ok but costly, may get better deal in cafes around the site.staff a little reserved.

Review 89:Location. Big bedroom, quiet.

Review 90:The staff were kindness itself. Very friendly. Rooms comfortable and very clean. Beds large and soft. Location quiet. Breakfast was enormous and very tasty.

Review 91:There is no bar or proper restaurant for evening meal but we walked to the beach and had a delious meal.

Review 92:We stayed in the triple room. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was a great family size, modern and clean. The beds were nice and firm, I suffer from back issues and slept great. There was some issues with the booking but the staff were really friendly and helped us out. Breakfast was simple but yummy.

Review 93:- horrible smell in the rooms - unable to open windows properly - no airconditioning - noisy street - 3 out of 4 lamps did not work in one of the rooms

Review 94:Not a very nice part of town, hotel is tired , dirty carpets, hole in bedroom wall. They have tried to improve bathroom with paint job but not good, mold on grout. Bedding clean.

Review 95:A bit further from the port than we would have liked but otherwise a great hotel

Review 96:We were made very welcome, the room was comfortable and the buffet breakfast was very good.

Review 97:Cramped carp park Shoddy rooms Car was scratched in car park No air conditioning

Review 98:People at the front desk were fairly helpful and polite Location is pretty central

Review 99:It was ok as a stop over but the skirting boards and window ledges were filthy. the noise of the seagulls was deafening and as there was no air conditioning it was not possible to survive without the windows being open. We had booked this as our return hotel but sadly we will cancel this booking.

Review 100:Nothing.

Review 101:We were much later than expected and called ahead. The guy on reception was really helpful and made sure we could get our bikes secured in the garage.

Review 102:The hotel is definitely not 3*, the rooms are old with very old furnitures and the "double bed" is basically 2x single beds. The general cleanliness is also average. The most negative point is the wifi which keeps kicking you out of the connection. In 2014 it is quite rare to come accross a hotel without a working wifi.

Review 103:Quick check in, location in the centre of Dunkerque useful. The value for money was OK. The hotel isn't nois and it was easy to park for free in the street (everything further than the Post office is free parking space).

Review 104:bath is a bit small, and water went all over the floor when showering even using the shower curtain tucked in the bath

Review 105:parking in the underground car park is good

Review 106:Carpet needed a good clean and no air conditioning

Review 107:The location in the centre of town was brilliant yet quiet, Whilst there was street parking it was well worth booking a garage. With in walking distance to sea front, shops & restaurants, Check out at 12

Review 108:They seem to be short of parking spaces but you can park on the street

Review 109:Close to shops, restaurants and bars

Review 110:Location, service and value for money

Review 111:No dislikes

Review 112:Friendly staff

Review 113:Didn't have a bad experience.

Review 114:Location, staff and comfort.

Review 115:Hotel in need of TLC!

Review 116:Convenience of the hotel.

Review 117:personnel sympa et competent situation

Review 118:Clean hotel with good friendly staff. Excellent location.

Review 119:Very clean, excellent friendly and helpful staff, very comfortable bed and clean bathroom. room basic and functional

Review 120:Bathtub under low ceiling, could not shower. Very bad smell in room.

Review 121:Very secure parking in garage. Friendly staff.

Review 122:In the centre of town with the railway station, buses, restaurants and maritime museum close by.

Review 123:Room carpet very hard. A decent carpet and the room would be highly rated.

Review 124:Comfortable bed

Review 125:door lock , was loose.

Review 126:staff were friendly, hotel was close ,to centre,no coffee or tea facilities, was pleasent, but ordinary.

Review 127:very good service and facilities good location

Review 128:None

Review 129:Location and car parking

Review 130:The staff were helpful and friendly, rooms clean and tidy, secure parking for motorcycles was excellent

Review 131:Decent economical place, great for the Train and Ferry Terminals.Restaurants nearby too.
