Reviews for Hôtel Restaurant l'Hirondelle

Review 1:quite a basic hotel, but fine for short stay rooms quite small

Review 2:in lovely area, easy to find nice restaurant, lovely bakery across the road staff friendly easy to park free on street

Review 3:Short staffed in restaurant the night we stayed so dinner was late. Everything else was good.

Review 4:Beautiful location, lovely building, great food, nice room, clean and modern. Will definitely stay here again.

Review 5:Beds were horrible, no AC, no fans, linens shabby, breakfast not very adequate, had to leave window open and was attacked by mosquitos. Plus, dark hallways....just plain not nice.

Review 6:Only positive I can report is it was only a couple of blocks to waterfront.

Review 7:Rather small bedroon / bathroom but adequate for a short stay. Only small wardrobe with no draw space.

Review 8:Centrally placed with plenty of free street parking and easy walking distance to the seafront. Good restaurant serving excellent seafood dishes.

Review 9:Would have preferred an upper floor room, as requested but was given a ground floor one which was a little dark and we felt we couldn't open a window at night. A better selection of breakfast would have been appreciated

Review 10:The hotel was surprisingly modern inside from its appearance outside. The staff were very pleasant and the food in the restaurant out of this world

Review 11:-Private garage is in a separate building across the road -Rooms are quite small. -Couple of other guests complained about the the kids' noise, but staff dealt with it fairly.

Review 12:-Very good location, close to beach, bakeries and supermarket close by. Good for day trips to sea side villages and Belgium -Friendly staff. -Had dinner at restaurant once, fresh and tasty food (sea food)

Review 13:The bar isn't too inviting. I like to have a night cap with the locals in the bar but people weren't present and lacked atmosphere .

Review 14:The lady of the house was great

Review 15:restaurant is very good, rooms are spacious and staff are pleasant and friendly. located outside of town centre of Dunkerque, you can walk to the promenade/ sea.

Review 16:I went with a group of friends for a bit of a battle field tour and a little shopping. very central and close to the beach. Was pleased to find a market in the square close by (tuesdays). Good breakfast. Comfy and friendly.

Review 17:My stay was like stepping back in time to the good old days of seaside towns in France. Excellent restaurant, good atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and good location.

Review 18:The hotel is clean but it needs updating . Also nobody informed us about any facilities , breakfast times or even where the restaurant is.There's no duvets on the beds but blankets that smelled a bit funny, the pillows are cheap and lumpy and had no pillowcases on. The corridors are dark and our room overlooked into someone's back garden/ kitchen window , etc. Fairly priced and in decent location but I will not return simply because is not up to my standards .

Review 19:Location

Review 20:We had a single unwelcome guest - a mosquito, who we named Zoubi. Zoubi liked buzzing around our ears at night. The bed had sheets, rather than a duvet, but hey-ho, can't have everything. And we were awoken by an unusual vibrating noise; after much hard work the culprit was found to be the fluorescent light bulb (even though it wasn't on). but on balance would we go back? Yes

Review 21:Room 315 overlooks the street, but is quiet, no problems from street noise or other rooms. The bed is comfortable, and big enough to express affection in. Everything works in the bathroom. It's clean and functional. There is a 24-hour entry code after reception is closed. We didn't sample the restaurant - menu looked good though a bit brightly lit. There is no problem parking free outside. The staff are quite friendly - especially if you sing Der Hans In Schnockelock to them!

Review 22:I requested a table for dinner, as the whole point of booking this hotel was top have a meal for my husband's 60th Birthday treat. Imagine my reaction when I arrived to find that the restaurant was closed and that they had told Booking .com that dinner would not be available. The room alone, without the opportunity of a meal, is not worth the price they are charging and so I feel doubly disappointed and annoyed!

Review 23:Closed restaurant in the time of our stay.

Review 24:Close to ferry in Dunkirk. Excellent restaurant on site- but closed in the time of our stay. 2 connected rooms for the family of 4- comfortable and spaceful with good facilities.

Review 25:Very friendly and helpful staff. Family atmosphere. Restaurant was really good, excellent food and good value....welcoming and friendly.....good atmosphere.

Review 26:Bad room was very old, shower bath and toilets not clean !!! For two nights we have paid 180 euro!!!!

Review 27:Just location was ok

Review 28:The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful . The restaurant service very good.

Review 29:Close to the beach and restaurants (the hotel restaurant was closed). The breakfast was average.

Review 30:Good location, parking

Review 31:Nostalgia - we have stayed several times in the past!

Review 32:Pleasant hotel not far from the beach - excellent service

Review 33:Closse to ferry, 30 minutes. Also close to beach and many restaurants, port and town centre.

Review 34:Staff were very helpful and efficient, location was good for getting to the beach and restaurant area. Parking available close to hotel

Review 35:Breakfast a bit plain

Review 36:Location just a short walk from the beach and dozens of restaurants and lots of free parking around the hotel

Review 37:nothing.

Review 38:Location - a short walk to beach and market in square. Very helpful host and good breakfast.

Review 39:Location near the ferry is handy for either direction. There are restaurants and bars nearby on the promenade, but the food in the hotel was great.

Review 40:very hard to find when travelling by car. Had to park away from Hotel. Room very very basic, no comforts at all.

Review 41:just a place to sleep

Review 42:Not much going on,lots of tramps in nearby park

Review 43:Very friendly staff. Clean hotel in a good location

Review 44:Single room to small, smelt bad and noisy during the day.

Review 45:Well located Quit during night time

Review 46:make sure to notify staff if arrival is late breakfast not included

Review 47:clean, functional, nice staff

Review 48:Rooms a bit basic but food made up for it

Review 49:Food in hotel restaurant very good

Review 50:Nothing

Review 51:Private secure car park

Review 52:small rooms

Review 53:good food in the restaurant.

Review 54:Tried contacting the hotel, no one answered our call or text. Emailed to explain the situation, and still no response. Would not recommend this hotel. BnB just up the road is excellent.

Review 55:Only blankets, no comforters/duvets. A bit noise from corridor and neighbors room. Lack of eggs and bacon for breakfast.

Review 56:Very nice and friendly personal, who did every thing to make me comfortable. Large room and bath room. Very good restaurant. All in all a place I will like to stay again.

Review 57:Parking can be a problem.

Review 58:Pleasant room with a comfortable bed. Dinner was very tasty and the menu had a good choice. Breakfast was spot on with excellent coffee. An ideal location for an overnight stay. For a longer stay We would look for more overall quality.

Review 59:Arrived on a Sunday about 4pm returning from Germany. The reception was closed and there was no access to the hotel. There was a note on the door to say the reception was not open until 6pm. This was not known.

Review 60:Food in restaurant excellent wel priced. Staff very helpful

Review 61:Beware: the address of the hotel was not searchable at our (updated) sat-nav. Apparently, this is a known problem. Make sure you know where you are heading to before getting to Dunkerque!

Review 62:staff was friendly and helpful; location seems pleasant (we only spent an overnight visit at the hotel)

Review 63:The family room was actually two rooms with a corridor and a fire style door that could be closed to provide security sadly our three year olds worked out how to open it immediately so we had to be on alert the whole time we were there. Not a criticism just a heads up for families with inquisitive youngsters.

Review 64:The location was excellent. The food in the restaurant was very good as would be expected and the staff were patient with our young sons.

Review 65:Bed was uncomfortable and sagged into the middle. Room had tired fixtures and fittings. Unpleasant smell of drains in the bathroom and hallway outside the room.

Review 66:Average evening meal ok but a good breakfast. Good base for touring the historic northern French and Belgium coastal areas. Ideal for a one night stop over too. Short walk to La Plage.

Review 67:A lot of dog poo on pavements.

Review 68:Location for Malo les Bains beach excellent. Good bus to town centre 10 mis or half hour walk. Lots of beach front places to eat plus local bakeries. Free/easy street parking. Nice local park with playground & small aquarium for children.

Review 69:The room was vey basic, but was a little over-priced for the facilities it offered.

Review 70:The owners had informed us that there was a carnival and prepared us for what to expect. The owner (male) was very helpful when we arrived considering how hectic it was. Room very basic, but clean.

Review 71:Rooms were a little basic but reflect the rating so no real issue. Breakfast simple but sufficient but don't expect a huge choice.

Review 72:Location was good for the purpose of my visit. Plenty of bars and restaurants close by for those not wishing to use hotel facilities for dining.

Review 73:The layout of the "family room" which my daughter, her fiancee and thetwo children shared was not ideal. Although they were in a seperatecorrider with a lockable outer door, they were just two rooms they sameas ours and were not ajoining, meaning one parent had to sleep with onechild in each room rather than the two children sleep in a room ontheir own.

Review 74:We have stayed at least four or five times at L'hirondelle. The locationis good for our Annual Christmas shopping trip. The staff are lovely andare so helpful. We took our grandchildren along this year (aged 3 and17mths) and they were made so welcome so unlike hotels in the uk. Roomsare quite basic but clean and the food is fantastic.

Review 75:Rooms were clean - but very gloomy and worn looking, not helped by musty smell. In one room kept awake by a low drone (extractor fan?) all night

Review 76:Good location, friendly staff.

Review 77:There was no-one about before 7am and we had an early ferry booked and had to find our way out of the hotel.

Review 78:Good set up for families - 2 rooms which were separate but combined in a unit.

Review 79:Restaurant closure in August (see above)

Review 80:This a well run, clean, comfortable and friendly hotel. English isspoken. The only shame was that the restaurant, which I have used beforeand is excellent, was closed for August (breakfast only being served)

Review 81:The first room we given was so small, if we had a cat with us wecouldn't have swung it round. We went and asked if we could upgrade toa larger room, which we did and it cost another 20 euro's a night, sonot such good value as the original offer. Also got dressed for dinner, only to be told that the restaurant was closed until September. One ofthe reasons for booking was the reviews of the restaurant, but itwasn't to far to the beach restaurants, but still a disappointment thatit was closed.

Review 82:It's position. It was by a square with a small park with a bandstand.Only 5 minutes walk from the beach and cafes. The beach was stunning, notacky shops like we have on English resorts.

Review 83:Our room didnt have a view apart from kitchen roof and vents. The continental style breakfast at 9 euro each was far to expensive.

Review 84:A modern style hotel in a good location. Staff friendly and polite.

Review 85:We were a family with 2 young kids and had the 'family wing' on 1stfloor (rooms 120 and 121) which is basically a corridor to two roomswhich has a lockable door therefore a seperate little bit which was goodfor the kids.

Review 86:The breakfast isn't particularly good value: we've had far better inGermany which cost less. Parking on Avenue Faidherbe / Place Turenne canbe a problem if you don't use the hotel's garage.

Review 87:We've stayed at L'Hirondelle a number of times of the past few years:the rooms in Villa Mimosa are far superior to those in the main hotel -boutique in standard.

Review 88:Rooms are functional, with small shower rooms.

Review 89:Friendly welcome and convenient parking. We had a family suite which was ideal. Quiet location within easy walking distance of the beachfront.

Review 90:The room with double bed was quite small. The twin was lovely though.

Review 91:The welcome was good, the hotal was nice, the staff were friendly but not overpowering, the brekfast was simple but more than ample with ham, cheese. Egg as well as breads, croissants, chutneys and jams and I enjoyed it, The dinner was lovely and good value. It wasn't far from the beach and in a car was a good base for travel.

Review 92:Used it as a stop over. A very good traditional hotel. Secure parking,or plenty of ree street parking. About 5-10 mins walk to the seafront.Good dinner especially the mussels. Breakfast good to sustain one onensuing journey by car.

Review 93:Room was good.Large size and clean. Not particularly luxuryi.e. decor etc but adequate.Bar was small but well staffed but the best bit was the restaurant. We had the meal of the day, but with mussels and steak tartar to die for I am looking forward to my next visit.

Review 94:Few guests ; very quiet ; no atmosphere ; no tastful background music. Restaurant was closed due to a "Public Holiday" !

Review 95:Friendly and helpfull receptionist. Short walk to the seafront.

Review 96:When we arrived the owner guided me in to a parking space right at thefront of the hotel.and reassured me that it was ok to park there despitethe markings on the road. The room was comfortable and warm enough on achilly May night. The evening meal was good and the staff were veryhelpful and explained what the various dishes on offer were.

Review 97:Difficult to find if you haven't got a Sat Nav! We invested in a European one this year & it was well worth it!

Review 98:W have stayed here before & the staff were friendly and made us welcome. Dunkirk is not in itself a tourist destination, but is a good starting point for travel. We are interested in the war memorials. L'hirondelle i just out of the city centre but close to the A16 motorway, so ideal if you want to travel around. We walked to all the sights in Dunkirk & used the car to travel to other places, Ypres in Begium is easy to get to & only an hour away.

Review 99:Simply, but very satisfactorily equiped rooms, very clean. Helpful and nice staff. Excellent restaurant- great food, wine..... Superb for the family with kids. Location in the town, easy to get to the port.

Review 100:Lovely hosts, Excellent Location, Beautiful Breakfast. Would recommend this all the time.

Review 101:Great food at reasonable prices - friendly and helpful staff

Review 102:No children's menu

Review 103:We had our own area for the family and it worked very well. Could have done with a child's menu in the evening?

Review 104:Limited wifi access

Review 105:Good restaurant; value for money

Review 106:The welcome and the food!

Review 107:Friendly hostess, comfortable rooms (we got family suite with two adjoining rooms).

Review 108:No Tea or coffee making facilities in room

Review 109:Close to beach

Review 110:No parking facilities.

Review 111:Simple and basic but ideal for the one night stay we required.

Review 112:Clean, we'll presented, friendly staff, walking distance of beach, shops & tourist attractions.

Review 113:Small room

Review 114:Restuarant

Review 115:Good hotel with spacious rooms.

Review 116:Excellent location, very close to the beach. The staff were very friendly and the room was nice and clean. Free on-street parking outside too.

Review 117:This is a basic hotel in a very tired locality

Review 118:Expensive restaurant forced us to eat out.

Review 119:Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 120:Unpretentious, friendly, clean and good value.
