Reviews for Hôtel Edelweiss
Review 1:Bath could have been larger
Review 2:Near ski resort. Good for shops and restaurants. Short walk to fortress. Nice view from balcony. Catered well for gluten/dairy free diet.
Review 3:I usually book 3/4 star hotels but after reading the reviews for this hotel and looking at the photos we decided to give it a try and we weren't disappointed We checked in at 9.30 in the morning , which would be impossible at other hotels. The receptionist spoke pretty good English and she was very friendly too. The room was exactly as in the photos! Bed was very comfortable nothing much to say about bathroom it was the usual standard. We had a good French breakfast for the two mornings we were there . The attention to detail in the breakfast room decor was exceptional for a two star hotel. The hotel was cozy as the heating was always on (winter time) We stayed two nights and each time we entered the hotel we were met with a friendly smile and welcoming chat from the very nice receptionists. Don't be put off by the outside facade athough it may need a lick of paint , the helpful staff and cozy atmosphere made our stay really worthwhile .
Review 4:Shower room miniscule and WC on the landing which was very difficult in the night. The mattress was poor quality and uncomfortable although the receptionist told me that it was changed last year. Expensive for what we had.
Review 5:Easy to find and close to the old town. Very helpful staff.
Review 6:My room had no view but in fairness wasn't listed as such. It was clean and tidy but the bathroom was in need of some TLC.
Review 7:Reasonable price, helpful staff and nice position to walk into old town from.mi stopped for two nights and had clean towels and the room was serviced properly
Review 8:I found bed uncomfortable (Wife didn't). Our whole group would have liked tea/coffee making facility, even if it had been central in the restaurant
Review 9:Great central location and value for money.
Review 10:The hotel is on a busy road so our room at the front of the hotel was noisy. Also, it was very hot during our stay and the room does not have a fan.
Review 11:The staff are very pleasant and accommodating. They took very good care of us.
Review 12:Staff were really friendly and patient with my limited French (although their English was great anyway). Located 100yards from the old town (albeit straight uphill). Nice balcony with a good view over the valley. Hotel was exactly what we needed, would highly recommend
Review 13:Not the hotels fault, but the unseasonable hot weather (35C) made the lack of AC unpleasant. Many stairs to drag luggage up.
Review 14:Reception pointed us to a great restaurant in the old city. Parking right at the entrance!
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:We had a nice view. The facility is attractive and clean. The staff are helpful. Good breakfast. About a 15 minute walk up hill to old town which has a nice array of restaurants to choose from. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 17:Nothing. Everything was good. Parking was a little complicated, but there was ample parking in an overflow car park across the street.
Review 18:We stayed for one night on route to a ski resort. The hotel was very welcoming and clean. The family rooms were very large and spacious, which was great. The old town was worth the short 10-15 minute walk from the hotel, where we had a very pleasant dinner with the kids.
Review 19:Good location to walk into old town and down to ski lifts, a little difficult walk back up the hill after a hard days skiing,if you are unfit!
Review 20:Comfy room, clean, nice balcony overlooking slopes, plenty of hot water despite other reviews, if you try to speak French it's helpful but the man spoke English. They were very nice hosts, good breakfast, good service.
Review 21:Friendly and helpful people, comfy beds , good hot showers with power , quirky and real French building , great connection on free wifi , fresh croissants and good coffee..... Great value for money ! Will be back !
Review 22:Good location close to the city center (between old town and modern center) and comfortable room with nice balcony and beautiful view on the mountains. Free parking included, excellent value/price
Review 23:The rooms facing the road get some road noise overnight.
Review 24:Set just below the old town Hotel Edelweiss is perfectly located. Great continental breakfast each morning. Rooms were small but comfortable.
Review 25:Bathroom was very dated and could do with refurbishing.
Review 26:Location was great for visiting the old walled Town. Albeit the walk up from the hotel wasn't far it was quite steep. Staff very helpful. Plenty of restaurants in old town serving local food. Dedicated parking for motorbike. Supermarket just down the road to get some cheaper drink to enjoy in the room on the balcony.
Review 27:About the only problem we had was with the hot water. Not only does it have to run for ages before it is hot, it becomes cold again very quickly if it is shut off for a few minutes.
Review 28:The hotel is on the main road, up the hill from the new section of town, just below the old town. Since you will be spending most of your time wandering the old town, it's worth the couple of hundred metres walk up from the modern centre. Our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable.
Review 29:Very clean functional accomodation. Excellent bed linens. Nice to have little balcony overlooking gardens and mountains in distance, as well as activity in very busy parking lot. Hotel appears popular with cyclists and motorcycle groups.
Review 30:Limited parking, we often had to park across the road at the local community centre. No evening meals when we stayed here but the breakfasts were good.
Review 31:Proximity to the Old Town and lots of restaurants within a ten minute walk. Shops and cinema nearby/within a 5 minute walk down into the modern part of Briancon. Good value for money and a peaceful location at night.
Review 32:A choice of a full breakfast (in summer) would be good and parking was a little tight. Rooms at the front of the hotel with a view over the valley are better.
Review 33:Friendliness of the staff and the vibe of the hotel, comfortable room with good facilities, free laundry facilities, good bike storage, good continental breakfast, convenient location with walking distance to restaurants, sky lift and lots of sightseeing. Nice lounge area with very well priced drinks. A great place to enjoy a longer stay.
Review 34:Bathroom showed its age - but very clean. A bit of a no-man's land location, but Briancon does have a funny layout & seems to shut down at 9pm.
Review 35:Friendly staff, good breakfast, large room, free car park, motorbike-friendly.
Review 36:This hotel was fantastic, staff were incredible. Facilties lend itself to cycling and outdoors activities. Food was endless and after a hard days cycling the facilities in hotel were ideal. I will come back to this hotel to base myself in order to cycle around the area. In the winter it would also be great, located a close walk away from the lifts.
Review 37:Good breakfasts. Safe cycle store in the basement. Excellent location for alpine cycling, at the foot of the Izoard, Col du Granon, Col du Lautaret and Col du Galibier.
Review 38:Reception staff either couldn't speak English or chose not to do so. Parking on site OK if you get there before the motorbikes.
Review 39:It was value for money, the room was very nice, altough small, but adequate with good shower ande wifi connection. Breakfast also good.
Review 40:Bathroom needed an update
Review 41:Great location only 10 minute uphill walk to old town. Comfy room with nice view. Staff really friendly and helpful. Dedicated motorbike parking. Didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on breakfast.
Review 42:Parking within hotel grounds limited but staff showed alternative free parking opposite.
Review 43:Superb location easy to find with Town centre 10 minutes walk downhill, and old town / Fort 10 minutes uphill.
Review 44:Proximity to a busy street, however noise wasn't an issue
Review 45:The location, close to the old city, spacious dining room and sitting room, very helpful staff, private parking.
Review 46:No hairdryer. Or couldn't find it???
Review 47:The location was good because it was half way between the old part of town and the new, so you could walk 15 minutes either way. The staff were very friendly and efficient. I left my credit card at the hairdressers around the corner and had moved onto our next destination before I discovered it. They chased up name of hairdresser so I could organise to get it back. Room and bed generous and comfortable. Good value for money.
Review 48:The house staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant on site was delicious and was a great value for the quality of the food.
Review 49:Great value for money (outside winter season) and not far from the old town.
Review 50:Magnificent view over the mountains. Comfortable bed and great breakfast.
Review 51:Poor soggy croissants at breakfast. Bath needed updating.
Review 52:Comfortable beds with excellent views across the valley. Parking. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 53:Great location near the old town. The setting in Briancon is beautiful. Nice, friendly staff.
Review 54:No hi ha ascensor. La moqueta necessita manteniment.
Review 55:Internet Access didn't work
Review 56:Friendly personel
Review 57:A bit run down. Difficulty getting a park.
Review 58:Very convenient location a short walk from the old town. Very helpful owners.
Review 59:Located midway up a steep hill so challenging walk each day.
Review 60:Friendly staff, reasonable room and bed
Review 61:Nothing in particular
Review 62:Place and Breakfast
Review 63:Not enough parking
Review 64:Value for money

Review 73:The room, the food and particularly the very kind service of the hotel manager
Review 74:The hotel was situated within walking distance of the Old Town. The hotel was functional.
Review 75:The decor was delightful, the staff very welcoming, the room clean with fantastic mountain view and great breakfast.
Review 76:Location, friendly owners and staff.
Review 77:downtown facilities not within walking distance, eg cafe, little shops.
Review 78:parking on site good situation for easy finding close to historic centre
Review 79:There is no air conditioning
Review 80:Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Although the room was quite small it was very clean and comfortable.
Review 81:Very helpfull and understanding staff, comfortable beds. Good location 1/2 way up the hill.
Review 82:It was all ok: spacious room, friendly staff and good breakfast. Recommended for a night as for a longer stay.
Review 83:The hotel is located between old and new parts of the city in walkable distance.
Review 84:Everything was just perfect
Review 85:Location and friendliness
Review 86:Location and building very disheartening, as is Briancon.
Review 87:Nice room and staff.
Review 88:WiFi connection was poor
Review 89:Staff were very helpful with my extra requests
Review 90:The hotel was not very soundproof and so, we could hear noise throughout the hotel. However, it was very quiet at night time when we were sleeping.
Review 91:The hotel was within walking distance of the old Fort. We had one of the best dinners ever in a local restaurant recommended by the hotel.
Review 92:walking back up the hill after a meal and a few beers.
Review 93:excellent breakfast, friendly staff, and cheap beer,(cheapish).
Review 94:Internet connection poor in room. No meals available.
Review 95:Location, friendly owner, good coffee (not so common these days in france), spacious room
Review 96:Local to all Briancon has to offer & a great motorcycle stopover place.
Review 97:Good room, friendly and helpful staff. Good location for walking to old town.
Review 98:Location was good.
Review 99:No bath plug!
Review 100:Great value for money and excellent location
Review 101:Parking was limited and restricted..
Review 102:A basic hotel which was only 200 metres downhill from the old town.
Review 103:Very pleasant and helpful proprietors and staff. Nice building, good bedroom with magnificent views. Conveniently situated between old town and new town and slightly set back from main road with trees and garden to look out onto.
Review 104:There are no negative experiences to mention.
Review 105:The staff were very welcoming. They were extremely helpful, even bookinga table at one of the restaurants in the Old Town for us. The locationis brilliant - head up the hill for a short walk to the Old Town anddown the hill the same distance to the town centre. The sitting roomcame in handy as we were limited to driving anywhere because of thesnow. The view of the snow covered mountains from our room, the sittingroom and dining room was a real treat. The breakfast was enjoyable - atypical European breakfast but not the usual self-serve. The staff werethere to seat us then brought the croissants and baguette to the tableafter asking us what we would like to drink therefore making it a verypleasant experience. This is a place we would definitely return to.
Review 106:I would definitely not recommend this hotel if there is any chance of it being cold, and being an aIpine area, that could happen at any time. I was there one full day. It snowed most of the day and by the afternoon it was slushy, wet and cold outside. My room was uncomfortably cold from mid-morning to evening. When I complained I was told more heat would be coming on soon (some time between 5.30 and 6 pm) and I should complain to "the boss". The boss said next day that it was expensive to heat the hotel all day and though it could be adjusted to suit the weather, it couldn't be adjusted quickly. A warm hotel in an alpine area is the most basic requirement for a decent hotel so I give it the lowest score for comfort and value for money. I arrived on foot at dusk and was given rudimentary information on where to find a restaurant.
Review 107:Very clean. Good breakfast. I was given a double room as they were not full.
Review 108:We didn't like our bathroom in Room 7. It was very small having obviously been built into the corner of the room in the old part of the hotel. The sliding door didn't close properly & there was a 9 inch gap at the bottom of the door. If you like privacy in the bathroom forget it!Totally unacceptable in my opinion. If other bathrooms in the old part are similar I would recommend asking for a room in the new part of the hotel which surely must have decent bathrooms.
Review 109:We liked the location as it is handily located two-thirds of the way up the rather steep hill between the old town & new town. It was good value for money & had a car-park.
Review 110:The room was very sparsely furnished. It is close to the old cit but it is an uphill climb. It was very noisy at night due to passing traffic. We had to sleep with the window open because of the heat.
Review 111:The parking on site was a bonus.
Review 112:Old hotel between old and new town . No restaurant nearby . Room 101 . Dark bathroom . Simple breakfast . No lift . Toilet seat moving . Simple breakfast .
Review 113:Parking , Wifi .
Review 114:Bathroom door was a sliding door which didn't fit. To get to the bedrooms you had to walk through the breakfast room which was ok in the evening.
Review 115:Private parking at the hotel. Motorbike friendly - designated spaces. Ten minute walk to the old town with a choice of restaurants. Convenient to tour the The Alps.
Review 116:The steep hill. Breakfast could have more variety for the price.
Review 117:The hotel was equal distance from the walled city and the main town. If able - ask for a room at the front to take advantage of the views - our room had no view but was still quite comfortable and clean. Car park was tight to park (10 spaces) but more free car parking over the road.
Review 118:No computer for guest to use. We had been walking the GR5 and therefore had no laptop or tablet.
Review 119:Well located not too far from the old town or commercial centre. Good breakfast, friendly staff
