Reviews for Hotel The Crown
Review 1:The hotel double booked our rooms. They woke us up the second day asking us to move rooms to the upper level with a smaller room and didn't offer a discount nor apologies ! They were very rude and unfriendly.
Review 2:The location
Review 3:dirty from starting walking in this called 1 star hotel ..people are smoking dagga inside the rooms..dirty kitchen.dirty rooms..like a poor back street junk yard..the picture you see is not real on booking.com...they put a hold on your card because you will want to cancel the stay when you arrive...very expensive and exstra 5% on top if paying with ct card...paid cash and the hold on card still not released....
Review 4:summary: the room to hear the people ultilizando the health, the noises, the rooms are horrible and stink ... not recommend to anyone!
Review 5:I didn't like nothing about this "hotel"..
Review 6:Mould and the fact that you had to turn in your room key whenever you weren't in your room. Evening/ night staff not interested in customer service on all three nights we were there.
Review 7:Liked location. Liked canal view. Liked the day staff who checked us in and helped with luggage to top floor. Also checked us in early regardless of check in time.
Review 8:they do not provide minimum service to client .Even if my room heater was worst ,no glass even to dink water ,committed but wifi was not working ,took payment in advance to block client ,the bill they provide is not claimable from company as its don't carry hotel name and so many bad thing ever I see in a hotel.
Review 9:it was a budget hotel at good location
Review 10:The hotel smells like old cigarettes. The picture shows a room with tv and a pool table. It doesn't exist! Not worth the money
Review 11:The only good thing abou this hotel is the location. However, there are many hotels near amsterdam central that are more clean and nicer
Review 12:Rooms were disgustingly dirty, cardboard instead of window,,carpets filthy & sticky with muck, mild on walls & growing behind bed ,writing on what was supposed to be clothes hanging area,no clean towels or bedding supplied,,very very expensive,,hostels I've seen were cleaner
Review 13:Location only
Review 14:They charged me $300 deposit not indicated on my confirmation of booking, so on arrival had to pay another $300. I hope this to be rectified otherwise I have to lodge credit card fraud with my bank when home.
Review 15:Location
Review 16:Stairs and more stairs.
Review 17:The bed was really comfortable and the staff were all really nice. Great for solo travellers or for holiday groups but prob not for couples who want romance. Its cheap and cheerful.
Review 18:Heat was out first night. Fixed next day
Review 19:I expected exactly what i got. It was €200 for 4 nights and the bed was actually really nice. Almost like student digs. Staff where quite nice.
Review 20:It's a little pricey for what you get, but it's the best location you are going to be able to find a single room at. Easy walk to the train station and everything fun. Room 10 on the very top floor has big windows you can open for a wonderful view of the street and canal, perfect for people watching. The stairs are very steep, but that's just old Dutch buildings.
Review 21:The stairs are really difficult to go with luggage and they don`t change towels every day. Also, the wifi didn`t work in the room, it only worked near reception.
Review 22:The location is really great, the bed was comfortable. Good price for the region.
Review 23:Alhamdulillah, no bad experience, everything is okay for us.. Hope you guys enjoy your stay
Review 24:Location is the best part, very near to the train station, tram, cruise or metro... All walking distance in the city center.
Review 25:Very very basic...good for a group of friends wanting a place to lay their heads for a couple of hours...not a place for couples, families etc
Review 26:Location was excellent
Review 27:There was no hot water pressure at night. The next morning the hot water worked fine. Even though we booked a room with a private shower there was no toilet which was outside the room and it was shared. All the rooms are upstairs and it's like crawling on a vertical ladder with very narrow steps. Difficult for old people to take their luggage up. No elevator. Several of The lights in the room did not work. There was no separate shampoo or conditioner. No washcloths. No bar soap. There was a dispenser unit on the wall which squirted out Bath and Body Gel. Three military style cots in the room.
Review 28:The location was perfect. The view from the room overlooking the canal was great. It was quiet enough to sleep. A church rang the bells in the morning. Staff was friendly.
Review 29:In 4 days, bedsheets were not changed once, and neither did we get new towels. Maybe having a cleaning service cost extra, but we didn't hear about it, and didn't bother to ask either.
Review 30:This place is all about location, if you like to stay in central Red Light District. It is close to 'The Old Church'.
Review 31:In the house there is a lot of stairs. It was not a problem for me, but if you are i.e. handicapped it may be a problem.
Review 32:The hotel is in the center of town, close to everything.
Review 33:had to hand in safe keys when we left hotel, not the most spacious room with the extra bed (mattress on floor)
Review 34:Awesome location, friendly and happy to help staff, comfortable beds
Review 35:not particularly keen on the shared toilet.
Review 36:It was very central, the staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms were clean, shower was great. Beds was good and no noise so I slept like a baby.
Review 37:I did not like the showers and toilets are used by all guests but in a small place like this it will difficult to make it different
Review 38:the staff is friendly and helpful, the Hotel is very near Central Station and a lot places to eat bars and red light district as same as Shopping aeres ship cruices are very near and inside the clean simple rooms it is quiet at night.
Review 39:Wifi wasn't working in my room. the room was comfortable but not very well clean. The stairs are very steep so be careful (this is however typical of old Dutch houses). The main issue was the cleanliness of toilets, or rather lack thereof. I think the problem mostly was related to fellow guests not very conscious of hygiene.
Review 40:It was very centrally located, so everything was easy to access, especially many cafes. It's pretty much in the heart of the red light district, so if you aren't okay with such an environment don't go there. But i felt very safe at all times and didn't mind it. Staff was nice.
Review 41:Rude staff, awful hotel. Hotel took €160 from credit card without authorisation, a month later still unable to get them to pay it back. Avoid at all costs...!!!
Review 42:Leaving
Review 43:Stung for an unannounced extra € 5 to pay by (debit) card on an already extremely expensive tariff (due to city being full when I booked). Street noise. Grubby corridors. I assumed 'shower only' implied no bath. It turned out to mean no WC either.
Review 44:Room OK and bed comfortable. Reception efficient.
Review 45:only accept cash when we tried to pay upon arrival. Had to go really far to withdraw... there is something wrong with WIFI last day. the hotel in general looks old inside.
Review 46:good location
Review 47:Hotel IS scruffy and down at heel - but it is mega cheap so can't complain too much - would stay there again - as long as it dosnt become any dearer.
Review 48:Comfy bed, spotless clean sheets, friendly staff - quiet and safe.
Review 49:As soon as we arrived, who appeared to be the owner, was the rudest person I've met in 5 trips to Amsterdam. Room door was extremely dodgy, looks like it had been tampered with. Security deposit bo (named budget) certainly lived up to the makes name. Weren't able to use it for the first 2 days. We were aware of the shared toilets which is fine, but nowhere did it mention if you're over 5 foot, it's impossible to move. Me being 6'3, had to sit down, pull down and shut the door all in one swift movement extremely poor toilet.
Review 50:Most of the staff, comfortable bed, powerful shower.
Review 51:Rooms look dirty, beds squeaky, I would classify this as low tier hostel rather than a hotel. The whole place looks like it is falling apart.
Review 52:the location is perfect, some of the staff are cheerful and nice.
Review 53:10 am checkout is always too early when partying long after midnight. Price is quite high for the facilities.
Review 54:Location is superb in the middle of Red Light District.
Review 55:The room are very dirty, specially the walls. It looked like they didn't paint the wall for more than 10 years... toilet is so small, that it is very hard to turn around. Since I used for only one night, I can say, that it was OK... I was only several hours in hotel, for sleep over. I am sure, that I wouldn't go again to this hotel. (Pictures of the rooms, are not even similar to the room where I was)
Review 56:Location of the hotel is very good... everything is "just few minutes away"
Review 57:Constant weed smoke in the lobby. I HATED it. I smoke a lot of weed but its not the first thing i want to smell in the morning when i enter the lobby. The room was very small but you know what they say- you get what you pay for. Shower was absolutely terrible. Room was cold. Turned on electric heater that almost instantly boiled me alive.
Review 58:Very friendly staff, had a real laugh with those guys. Found and knowledgable about the area, always very helpful and so polite. Location though- is second to none. If you don't mind the small disadvantages of this hotel and you want value for money, and you want to be smack bang in the middle of where everything is happening, book a room here.
Review 59:Non ho mai visto un hotel peggiore. L'albergo è di una sporcizia fuori dal normale. Culmine dello schifo: un RAGNO GIGANTE TRA LE LENZUOLA.. This is the worst hotel I have ever seen in my entire life. As soon as we entered, we noticed that the entire place smelled of something old and dirty, and when we got to our room we were astonished of how the room looked sad and meaningless. The sink was falling apart and we barely could stand in front of the mirror without hitting the bed behind. Bending to wash our teeth was practically impossible. What happened after left us terrorized: by lifting the bed sheets an enormous spider snuck out of nowhere and disappeared into the dirty and broken carpeted floor. The spider was too huge to be forgotten so easily and we decided, shortly after, that there was no way we could spend the night in that kind of “rat hole”. We went downstairs and to our surprise there was no way we could get our money back, despite the terrible experience we went through. They will never see me again and I strongly advise you chose another hotel for your stay in Amsterdam.
Review 60:This was a last minute booking and choices were limited. I chose The Crown due to its location. The room was very basic with no en-suite but the toilet was just outside the door so not a problem.
Review 61:Stairs are very steep!
Review 62:Great location, very central and only 5 mins from the train station and not actually in the red light district (although it's very close) Similar facilities to other similarly priced accommodation, but much cleaner. Very friendly staff. Easy to find. Let us check in 2 hours early with no problems/charges. Let us store our bags after we checked out.
Review 63:It could be cleaner, especially the carpet on the stairs. Our heater was broken, but we got a small portable heater after informing the reception.
Review 64:The location is simply perfect, close to the Central Station and to the red light district, yet the hotel is quiet enough for a good night sleep. The staff was nice and they solved our issue with the heating in the room immediately.
Review 65:the room was dirty, the curtains and towels had holes and there was only a mobile heater which made the air in the room smell worse. Very old furniture and painting of the room. I preferred to stay up until 1am rather than returning to this room and sleep. By that time it was cold in the room anyway. No hot water in the room. Before arriving my card was charged twice and only after 30min of discussions at the reception, the second transaction was identified and cancelled. Although I notified the hotel some days ago of these problems, nothing has been done before I arrived at the hotel. Check-out time is 10am, which is very early.
Review 66:location is very good, just minutes away from the central station. The bed mattress was comfortable. The shared toilet looked ok, same the showers.
Review 67:The bathroom on the ground floor was a little dirty when we first got there, but was clean the next day. Was sometimes hard to find a member of staff.
Review 68:Right in the centre of town on the edge of the Red Light District, but the street itself was quiet and just away from the rowdiness. Very good value for money. Staff were really friendly and happy to suggest places to go.
Review 69:Imagine having timy common bathrooms for 4 rooms when u have paid 70 euros per day without any lights and u can barely fit in that. The rooms are no better. The building has no open areas around and is extremely congested. No wifi in the rooms - as this is a stone age building - medival living. No room service. Cleaning is also not done on a daily basis. I advise strongly not to use this hotel
Review 70:Location is the only thing this makes money
Review 71:Night time personell claimed i had not paid by check-in. Had paid 50 euro, got 10 back, with promise that I would get the rest later. Had to get police to get access to my room when coming back later at night. Never going back. I'm a frequent traveller due to my job.
Review 72:Location were brilliant. Price too. Room where ok for its one night purpose.
Review 73:Very very steep staircases to carry luggage up to rooms. Hotel did not appear busy but could not accommodate a slightly later checkout time. BE WARNED: Pay with cash since you will pay an extra €5 to pay using ANY card.
Review 74:Spanish receptionist at checkout was friendly. I was able to store my luggage after checkout until I needed to head to the airport. Close to Amsterdam Centraal - only a 5-10 minute walk.
Review 75:Pretty much everything except the location. Rude staff. Specially the guy who checked me in was untoleratable. He was deliberately rude. The room was advertised with a safe box. However, safe wasn't working. Room was very cold all night long. The heater constantly made so much noise. Also, the heater made the room entirely dried. I woke up with a dry mouth and nose. View outside my window was a wall 2 meteres away. No tv & no bed lamp. If the staff were more polite the whole experience would be better.
Review 76:Best location ever. It's perfect for those who wanna be in the centre. Price was reasonable for the excellent location. So much better than a hostel.
Review 77:You get what you pay for, I just needed a bed for the night near the station and this fitted the bill. Thankfully on a cold night there was a radiator on the wall and a fan heater to keep the cold out.
Review 78:Toilet and bathroom not found in room Very narrow Not the cleanest of all hotels Wi-Fi only in Hotel lobby (but found one from around)
Review 79:Open 24/7 Close to centre If you don't expect much it's really ok Price is good, especially if you want to see the city and not hang around in a hotel
Review 80:Having the Residence door at the back of a bar was unexpected and from a first impression look, I was terrified to stay in the hotel. I did not like the unstable wood floor that is being covered by carpet, and the carpet smelled like feet. Needs cleaning. Its an old building that needs some love.
Review 81:I liked the comfort of the bed and the staff was really friendly. In a quiet area which I was able to sleep well. Getting past the negatives, my stay ended up being very comfortable.
Review 82:No faults. Enjoyed my trip and had a good base in the crown to plan my day and rest my tired legs
Review 83:The Crown is a great hotel as it is what it is. Cheap and Cheerful. You read some of the reviews on here and you think to yourself "go and pay 5 star prices if you want 5 star accommodation" Staff were friendly, room was comfortable and shower was hot. If your young, going to be out and about all day and no what to expect this is the perfect hotel as the location is magnificent. 10/10 for me as I was aware of what I was getting for the awesome cost. Will be back for sure.
Review 84:Bathroom facilities were very poor, there was a community toilet that did not have a proper locking system. Not a place I ever want to go to again.
Review 85:Did not like anything
Review 86:When I booked one triple room and a quadruple one, they told me I havereserved it for 2 people in each room. Even if the price was differentfor each type of room(2-70euro, 3-105euro, 4-120).How stupid could I beto book triple and quadruple rooms for 4 people? They asked for theother 3 guests an extra 150 euros, otherwise they cannot go to therooms! After two hours of negotiation and demonstration that the pricewon't change no matter of the number of persons you select onbooking.com we gave him "only" 50 euro. Check other websitesreviews!!! It is not a singular case! I didn't read it... Very smallbathrooms, with no door knob, broken window glass, in summer maybe not adiscomfort, but in october it was.
Review 87:Read all reviews on booking and other websites!!! I didn't and itcost me nerves and money!
Review 88:Budget hotels in Amsterdam are all alike - Budget quality but if you just want a good clean room to sleep in this is above others I have stayed in.
Review 89:Five minute walk from central station. Very friendly and helpful staff. Super location for shops, bars, clubs and red light district.
Review 90:The worst experience in a very long time. The staff is completely disinterested in their job, rude and unprofessional. It was pretty cold in my room and none of two heating equipments in my room worked. Shared toilet and shower facilities were disgusting. Stairs to your room are very steep, be aware if you are carrying any luggage. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. A hostel will be cheaper and far more comfortable and clean.
Review 91:Extremely narrow stairs without elevator. My room was on the 3rd floor. One of the staff members was not professional and you not give you the right information on time.
Review 92:The location.
Review 93:The Crown has all of the drawbacks of an inexpensive hotel in the old quarter of Amsterdam- small single room (other rooms much larger), narrow stairs, shared bath, etc. But these were expected and caused me no problem.
Review 94:Excellent location on a canal 5 minutes walk from Central Station. Helpful and friendly staff. Very clean- shared toilet and shower very satisfactory. Only 3 rooms on the top floor and mine was very quiet at night.
Review 95:Sheets were washed but not really clean. I tried not to look too closely at the rest of the room. Cracked or smashed wall. There was a shower and a wash basin but no toilet in the room. Smoke alarm was covered by dried toilet paper. Had to pay on check in.
Review 96:Really in the center of Amsterdam. A quarter or less of what nicer hotels request for one night in this area. Unexpected quiet at night - at least when I stayed there.
Review 97:Place was a bit rough, was an old building so very steep steps of staying at the top, but that can't b3 helped. Could do with a full renovation, room had a shower but was a shared toilet. Would research a better place next time.
Review 98:Comfy beds, quiet back room. Ideally placed for the station.
Review 99:One of the staff member wasn't friendly.
Review 100:Great location and value for money. There were 2 big comfortable beds and enough space in the twin-room with a shower. Clean and soundproof.
Review 101:Was very noise at night. Had to leave the windows open because it was hot but difficult sleeping due to the partying outside. The stairs are steep and narrow. Difficult to drag a large suitcase up the stairs.
Review 102:This hotel was in walking distance from the train, red light district, and great locations. The beds were incredible comfortable.
Review 103:The stairs are a little dangerous, specially in the night...
Review 104:Location was the best. The room was small, but enough to sleep and have a nice rest. Quiet, the reception personal was nice too.
Review 105:Stairway very steep, unfriendly staff member (possibly the owner), other quests had no regard for others banging doors swearing etc
Review 106:Linen was clean, hotel in a good position if you want to be in the Red Light district.
Review 107:The toilets were pretty dirty most of the time and the rooms were extremely hot, air conditioning of some sort would've been good in the weather we had.
Review 108:Two of us thought it was a pretty good hotel for the money, obviously big standard and a bit ratty but it was cheap.
Review 109:Room was tiny.
Review 110:Staff. Location.
Review 111:Small room
Review 112:Location and staff
Review 113:Too small
Review 114:Great location in the heart of the Red Light. Helpful staff. Comfy beds. Rooms very basic but fine.
Review 115:Just a cheap room nothing flash.
Review 116:best location, friendly staff, decent budget hotel. 3rd time I have stayed here. great for solo travellers and a lads weekend
Review 117:Didn't like comunial toilet
Review 118:The staff was very friendly and helpful, the location was perfect !!
Review 119:Central location good value for money
Review 120:The lock on the door was broken and the wifi barely works if they put you in rooms 14 or 13.
Review 121:Nothing really
Review 122:Location / start /
Review 123:everything was good.
Review 124:amazing
Review 125:Poor WiFi, No TV.
Review 126:Hotel location, Friendly and Helpful staff, Quiet.
Review 127:noise of neighbors, oldness of property
Review 128:location
Review 129:The excellent ubication.
Review 130:I liked the location
Review 131:Friendly staff free wifi comfortable beds warm rooms in walking distance of everything
