Reviews for Hôtel Ellington

Review 1:There was miscalculation with our bar bill which caused some hassle when we were checking out. In the end, anyway, that was sorted out by the staff and we weren't overcharged. Also got woken up by cleaning maid knocking around 9 a.m. once (yes, while on holiday you just might be in bed at that time), but these things can sometimes happen also by mistake; don't want to complain too much about such issues.

Review 2:The most important thing, this hotel is clean and neat. Staff was very helpful, polite and nice. Location is good, if not the very best. Breakfast was good, though not mind blowing, but OK value for money as there was a special offer of 9€/person instead of 18€ if booked at the reception.

Review 3:The bedrooms were small but very comfortable.

Review 4:The staff were very helpful and the bar was beautiful and a relaxing place to have a drink before going out to dinner

Review 5:The nearby construction works on the new tramline. The works were going to midnight every night and as very loud. Which meant Windows very much closed throughout and even with the air conditioning on - it was very stuffy

Review 6:The hotel and staff are lovely.

Review 7:Lots of development work going on in Nice at the minute so it was very noisy outside. But that is nothing to do with the hotel.

Review 8:Fantastic location 10 mins from the station, the beach and the Old Town!

Review 9:No air conditioning as hotel switches it off in October, we visited last week in October. Major issue with mosquitos. Kept windows closed as a result, which with no a/c wasn't comfortable.

Review 10:All good. Centrally located. Comfortable executive room. Staff very friendly.

Review 11:Although my card was charged directly after booking, still they pre authorized my card upon arrival. We paid with a different card before departure although the night was already paid. 5 days after departure I still wait for first amount to be unblocked and second amount to be refunded (the last after I requested it since they had forgotten to refund it).

Review 12:setting, service, breakfast, decoration

Review 13:I did not have a bad experience. Although I did not like the music in the corridor... it really is not necessary.

Review 14:My room was quiet and so I slept well. I really like the courtyard where I can have a drink during happy hours. The front desk person who checked me in was very helpful and welcoming which is great.

Review 15:Breakfast was only average compared to other places we have stayed at.

Review 16:Very large and.comfortable room. Everything was clean and a good location close to beach and shops.

Review 17:Super stay with a group of friends. We found the discounted breakfast to be excellent value. Just the thing to set you up for a day's sightseeing. Front desk staff very helpful with restaurant reservations and directions.

Review 18:Only fault with hotel was that neither of us could connect to the wifi even though we were each given an access code

Review 19:Hotel very clean and staff very helpful and attentive

Review 20:Paid extra for deluxe room and was not what i would consider a deluxe. Room was very small with no draw space and very little shelf space in wardrobe. Breakfast was good but charging extra 18 euros per person was steep. Price of the room was expensive for what it was, not a 4 star hotel more like a 3 star.

Review 21:Location was good and breakfast was plentiful with lots of variety. Helpful reception staff for problems with Wifi and directions for trips locally and further afield.

Review 22:Noise from loud music in the bar/patio area that can be heard from room Toiletries made in China Inappropriate music (disco type) Door to bathroom does not shut and cannot be locked Average breakfast

Review 23:Friendliness of staff Location

Review 24:Was more like a 3 star hotel rating. Not a great selection for breakfast. Air conditioning was not great.

Review 25:Good central location. Within easy walking distance from shops and markets. Polite, helpful staff. Had a deluxe room, which was clean and comfortable.

Review 26:This hotel is in a great location to walk around Nice. All staff were very pleasant and welcoming. It was our 20th Wedding Anniversary & the Management & staff did all they could to make it special. A wonderful break in Nice.

Review 27:Nil.

Review 28:Lovely hotel, in an excellent location. Large, comfortable room, with excellent facilities. Friendly and helpful staff who were very willing to assist us with any requests.

Review 29:I booked a 'junior suite', but it was basically just a big room. That's NOT a suite! There was a desk but no comfortable sitting/lounging area.

Review 30:Helpful staff, good position. Nice atmosphere. They park your car for you. My room was brand new and very well-appointed, balcony etc.

Review 31:Staff very accommodating, upgraded on arrival, huge room, clean and new. Buffet breakfast more than plentiful. Comfortable bar/jazz lounge. Superb.

Review 32:Wifi was not always reliable. Sports channels were shut off at 6pm during the WK which was too bad.

Review 33:Good location as it is only a 10-15 min walk to the beach area. They offer valet parking which is really nice and easy.

Review 34:Mosquitos.................

Review 35:Great staff,great location.

Review 36:The breakfast and the room were lovely.

Review 37:A nice quiet hotel at night which in Nice is hard to find. Very good location for designer shops.

Review 38:Quality of room was basic for the money.

Review 39:Location, staff and decor, other than rooms.

Review 40:bed amazing!

Review 41:I liked the afternoon tea and the happy hour in the lobby bar.

Review 42:Dry cleaning services unavailable during weekend

Review 43:Location

Review 44:The hotel would be nothing without the amazing staff! From the cleaners to the concierge! I will definitely be heading back soon

Review 45:Room and bathroom were not so big.

Review 46:Very close to main place in Nizza, Hotel with good services, specially parking.

Review 47:Nothing

Review 48:Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and close to City centre

Review 49:Poor Breakfast, Poor attention to detail e.g. bath gel not topped up as well as towels not being replaced when used ones were taken away

Review 50:reception too crowded

Review 51:wifi to be on once logged in

Review 52:techno music was played at max volume in the bar area the first night until 11pm which is unacceptable

Review 53:very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and clean room nice and cosy feeling

Review 54:The room was small and not very comfortable. BAthroom was very simple.

Review 55:He hotel was very close t the site of the conference at Acropolis, and also to the centre of the sity. Free Wifi avilabilty was essential.

Review 56:It was difficult to tell initially if the heat was working....but it seemed to be working in a few hours.

Review 57:Very good buffet breakfast including an expresso automatic machine, croissants, scrambled eggs, juice. Lovely breakfast dining areas.

Review 58:My room was not so modern! No space inside!Breakfast was very poor!

Review 59:Location was good, cuz we was very close to all the attractions and promenade!Building is nice!Staff friendly!

Review 60:Cleanliness (the moquette needed the use of more accurate vacuum-cleanrer) Bathroom (old stylish and not very comfortable) Wi-Fi (very complicated access, with the obligation of giving plenty of personal data justified by an old law on anti-terrorism which doesn't apply anymore)... All in all, a rating of this hotel as a four stars is not suitable at all, the maximum, for international standards, should be 3 stars

Review 61:Location Lobby

Review 62:This hotel could do with a bit of TLC. Ie: 1. Room fridge did not work; admittedly, upon reporting it was replaced with a brand new one almost immediately. 2.Bathroom taps (wash basin in particular) were of no determinable positioning so that the water temperature was difficult to adjust. 3. Bathroom neon light over the mirror would not light up after the third day. Was repaired the same day. 4. No advance information of the steps guests have to negotiate in order to enter the hotel.

Review 63:Location of hotel.

Review 64:Quality of room furnishings Refurbishment required in many parts of the hotel Sometimes unhelpful and unfriendly reception staff Did not match its 4 star boutique hotel rating

Review 65:Location Hotel terrace

Review 66:I took " classic room" and heard how people flashed the toilet in the room upstairs . I guess it happens because the building is old.

Review 67:Location is good ,only 5-7 minutes to the sea and close to all shops, cinema. Breakfast was nice too.

Review 68:Even though airconditioner was broken, they failed to fix it, change rooms or compensate. Car parking was not provided as well.

Review 69:Location of hotel in quiet and accessable quarter.

Review 70:the hotel claims to be a 4 star but the quality of the room is a poor 3 stars. cleanliness is also a problem, the washroom smelled humidity and many of the tiles were broken and dirty

Review 71:Room size : very small Staff without experience and not kind Poor and ugly decoration Community and private rooms without care

Review 72:Location close by city center

Review 73:Convenient location, easy access to main street and tram. Also, it is not far to walk to Promenade des anglais. The rooms are kept very clean and the staff is friendly. I enjoyed my stay and if I return to Nice I will book a room in this hotel .

Review 74:Starting to look a bit dated. Breakfast expensive. Not enough English speaking TV channels.

Review 75:Staff are very friendly and helpful. Convenient for Nice centre and beach. Room upgraded as it was a special occasion.Hotel is clean and welcoming.

Review 76:We suffered from cold. We stayed 5 nights, 1st night we froze with 3blankets on us, the heating system doesn't exist. Every morningbetween 8 to 9 the ladies which did the cleaning entered the roomwithout knocking, afterwards we found out that it was our fault becausewe didn't put the "do not distrurb sign" at the door. Poorwi-fi, do not believe what is written on the hotel presentation, the wi-fi functions slowly, we have to get every hour access codes, andfucntions only in the lobby. Room very small, the real room has nothingto do with the photos from the website. The real rooms are small, dark, without space. Too expensive for what it offers. Not a real 4**** hotel.

Review 77:Very clean hotel, very well located right in the heart of Nice. Friendlyand helpful reception staff.

Review 78:Noticed this time a deterioration in standards - for example coach parties staying for one night were disruptive. Also we chose not to have breakfast as the price was too high

Review 79:Liked location - we have stayed here before which is why we went back

Review 80:Whereas the main areas of the hotel are nicely decorated with excellent jazz-era themes, photos, etc., the room I had was really gray & bland....not a single artwork on the walls; very "clinical." Also, the breakfast area is very small for the volume of people using it, and the hot food wasn't very good.

Review 81:Hotel is neat/clean, and front-desk staff are courteous and helpful. The location is quite central, only 10 minutes' walk from the Acropolis (convention center) and Old Town area. The bar/lounge is great, together with the jazz-era theme.

Review 82:The deluxe rooms are very small, hard to move around in and not to the level the website describes them to be. Overall, the rooms and hotel are not worth the price they are charging.

Review 83:Maids started cleaning the corridors at 8am...noise travelled very easily so we were all awake with the crashing around!

Review 84:Very comfy bed & pillows. Great location for accessing station, beach and rest of city. Bar and terrace were good.

Review 85:Good location, close to central square and beach area, good bakery around the corner, laundry in the next building, close to Nicetoile shopping mall and restaurants. Reasonable price.

Review 86:No free Internet in rooms. Some room furnishings are dated. Breakfast is expensive - better to walk outside.

Review 87:Very helpful and friendly staff, efficient valet parking. Great location to explore the city and surroundings. Stylish lobby bar.

Review 88:The bathroom had a strange smell, I guess it wasn't related to thecleaning, seemed something from the pipes...Parking is not in the same location. They take you car somewhere you don't know. In my case they took forever to return my car when I needed.

Review 89:Location is fairly good, around 5-10 minutes from the beach. There arealso good restaurants in the area (better and cheaper than the flowersmarket region).

Review 90:We upgraded to an 'Executive Room' on arrival, the room smelt of damp, the a/c made a very loud noise and wasn't very good, the bed squeakedand creaked every time you moved, the wardrobe size was terrible and thecarpet felt thin, dirty and old.The website states a 'bottle of water on arrival', we were charged for the water. Also the site states the room has robes, these were not in our room. Looking at the pictures on the website do not do this hotel justice. All in all feel very cheated as for the two nights previous we had stayed in a 4star hotel in Milan which was FAR superior and less costly than this hotel.

Review 91:The external space and bar was very comfortable, great for a quickdrink. The valet service was good, if not a bit expensive at25Euros a night.

Review 92:Having agreed a price with booking.com, they added on another £30 or so because the hotel was full. Very disappointing and for that reason would not recommend hotel

Review 93:Patio area

Review 94:We had booked using bookings.com and the room we expected to get in a4-star hotel was not at all suitable. This was a disappointing start andto the credit of the hotel, they accepted our disappointment andprovided us with an agreeable room for the four nights of our stay. Weconsidered eating at the hotel for breakfast which was not included withthe stay. The 17 euros for breakfast was costly and we decided toexplore the local area instead. I think that a 4-star establishmentcould offer a light continental breakfast with the room with the optionof purchasing extra items if a person wishes to do so.

Review 95:We enjoyed the second room we were given which was in the main buildingfacing the boulevard. There was plenty of space to unpack and relax andthe bed was comfortable. The front desk staff were polite and they wereable to resolve the issue we had with the first room that we had beengiven. The location of the hotel was accessible to the beach and the oldtown by walking and took less than 15 minutes. There were many places toeat along the way and there was access to bus and tram lines. The trainstation was also only about 20 minutes walk.

Review 96:Staff was very gracious and friendly. Air conditioning worked nicely which was a relief from the heat. Rooms were clean and efficient for our needs. Great to have coffee in the room.

Review 97:Very expensive. Old furniture. Old bathrooms. Safty boxes are with keys not digital code and you have to ask the reception to provide a key. Internet was only available for free in the loby ( you have to pay for internet in the room). The internet vauchers provided were only valid for an hour. The breakfast was not included and in is very expensive to have breakfast in the hotel.

Review 98:Location was good, just 10 minutes walk from train station, beach and center.friendly staff. Clean. Nice loby.

Review 99:Slightly expensive, especially as breakfast wasn't included. Would havebenefitted from breakfast as it 'sets you up' for the day and it was tooexpensive to pay for as extra (17 euros each). Room was small eventhough it was an executive room - we were upgraded on arrival withoutasking. Would defnitely reccommend the hotel however as, for me,ambiance and atmosphere are very important. Cleanliness is also veryimportant and this hotel was very clean.

Review 100:I liked the location of the hotel as it was just 10 mins from theseafront and the centre of the town. The hotel had a lovely calmatmosphere and was tastefully decorated - it had a courtyard which wasnice to relax in and had a real mediterranean feel. Happy Hour from 6-8provided good value drinks, particularly cocktails. The hotel was offone of the main streets and therefore was a bit quieter which was good.Staff were generally very pleasant and made our three year old son feelvery welcome. Our son was able to run about the hotel without us feelinguncomfortable. Room was cleaned every day.

Review 101:Very friendly staff and a pleasant large room with a nice Bathroom. The concierge was very helpful in booking Two tours, answering our questions and ordering taxis. Very nice location. We had a great time!

Review 102:We had a really nice stay at the Ellington. The staff was friendly and helped us to organize some trips to Monaco and Cannes, and in the evening we enjoyed sitting on the patio for some drinks during the happy hour before walking to the old town (which is beautiful!). Our room was lovely decorated and clean, the breakfast was great. We will recommend it!

Review 103:Beautiful hotel - the bar is small but lovely - make the most of thehappy hour and have a glass of champagne. Location is perfect easy walkto the beach front and/or shops.

Review 104:Minor complaint - the "free wi-fi in the hotel lobby only" was a bit inconvenient. Especially when we quickly wanted to check email or weather reports after just waking up. Also the buffet breakfast was quite expensive (17 euros) so I suggest people find a rate that includes breakfast.

Review 105:Location was fantastic - was withing walking distance of train station (Gare Nice Ville), bus station (JC Bermond), old Nice, the port and the long beach (Promenade Des Anglais). TThe stafff at front desk were quite helpful in terms of navigating the city as well as figuring out trips to other places in the French Riviera. The rooms are quite comfortable and the hotel is also right next to a busy street (Avenue Jean Medecin) which was great for short walks after dinner. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and look forward to staying there again when I'm back at Nice.

Review 106:Have stayed here 3 times now and have never been dissapointed. Lovethe interior of the hotel, the reception lobby, the rooms, thestaff....all very good. Good location, near to everything....willdefinately stay again!

Review 107:Parking is € 20,-- per day (valet) and drinks in the bar are extremelyexpensive. Rooms are smaal and sober but clean.

Review 108:The lacation is excellent and staff is very friendly. Rooms are soberbut clean. Very nice located hotel and fair price for the Cote d'Azur.

Review 109:Stairs in the lobby made entrance with luggage difficult.

Review 110:Quiet, convenient location for sight seeing.

Review 111:not clean enough, very old school. pool sleep bedding set. dirty carpet. No bathrobe in the such four star hotel.

Review 112:Breakfast was expensive. Room was noisy

Review 113:All around a good hotel. Perhaps lacking a little atmosphere.

Review 114:on my idea it is more fits to 3 star hotel. as the excpectation from a three star it is good but it is not worth to pay as a four star.

Review 115:We just loved your hotel - fantastic staff, nice room, beautiful furniture. lovely garden, great location. We will be back.

Review 116:The upgrade on arrival Quality of breakfast

Review 117:TV didn't work

Review 118:Good location, about 10 min walk to beach and old city.

Review 119:Great location. Nice rooms and good facilities. Staff were ok just a bit cold.

Review 120:Shower leaked all over bathroom and WC had leak as well.

Review 121:Location, staff and hotel

Review 122:The basic bedroom which was meant to be a suite!

Review 123:Bar area and court yard were really nice.

Review 124:Rooms tired looking. Did not leave enough tea/coffee and did maiddid not wash cups etc.

Review 125:Location. Bar and reception area. Staff very helpful.
