Reviews for Parador de Santillana del Mar
Review 1:Dinner is served in the "sister" Parador, 150 m away. Not ideal when weather is bad. On our one night the staff totally unable to cope with the guests requiring a meal and the ordering process resembled an episode of "Fawlty Towers", restuarant manageress rapidly disappearing to hide. Parking onsite is limited, might be difficult in peak tourist season.
Review 2:Friendly and efficient reception. Room in quiet location Building has lots of character. Very convenient for the Santander ferry
Review 3:The staff were not particularly friendly or helpful and the dinner was dreadful, nearly inedible. Certainly not the quality I would expect from a Parador, but others have commented on the poor meals provided at Paradors.
Review 4:Not too much!
Review 5:The lift inspired us with so little confidence that we didn't use it once and it was disappointing not to be in the main Parador building but that may have been a booking error on our part. This wasn't clear to us though until we actually checked in so would advise other people booking to check what you have booked. Wifi impossible to access in the rooms.
Review 6:The staff were very helpful. We like the location, have visited before it before and would recommend it. We didn't eat dinner in the Parador this time but did last time and found it very much worth that bit extra.
Review 7:Lovely ambience and comfortable beds. We loved our visit, the whole town is quaint and quiet, with small cobbled roads and no through traffic. Lovely town to visit near the caves.
Review 8:dinner dining at main restaurant in neighbouring parador just shade disappointing.
Review 9:superb location just yards from main square but still quiet. liked the old-fashioned charm of the place
Review 10:WiFi did not reach the room. Very noisy. Room and sheets a little bit old. Paid Parking 6€/day. No other place to park your car inside the town.
Review 11:Location is perfect. Good bathroom with tab.
Review 12:the shower head badly needed replaced
Review 13:the staff did their best to provide us with seats in a shady area of the garden although such amenities are not generally available in Paradors
Review 14:Some people might find squeaky floors too noisy and disturbing at night, particularly if your room is not on the top floor.
Review 15:Nice quiet hotel! Hotel is located a bit aside from main plaza and touristy streets - so there was no street noise. We were on the top floor, in room 36. Our windows overlooked some kind of garden which we found very nice and peaceful. Parking was available - a big plus.
Review 16:Unfortunately there was no window in our room. However it was warm and comfortable and as we did not spend much time in the bedroom it was not an issue.
Review 17:The parador is situated in a beautiful medieval village. Plenty to see on the coast and in the surrounding countryside, even in the rain! Good area for walking. All the staff were most helpful. We enjoyed a lovely festive meal on Christmas Eve. All in all exceptional value for the money considering the great location.
Review 18:We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would strongly recommend it to other travellers. Both accommodation and food was fantastic. Well worth a visit.
Review 19:Room had neither air conditioner nor screens and was on upper floor so it got hot. Fan provided second night on request helped.
Review 20:Location perfect for the area. Staff extremely helpful.
Review 21:No tea & coffee making facilities
Review 22:Good location & nice building
Review 23:Annex not able to get a hot drink
Review 24:Location
Review 25:Facilities a bit dated - other local paradors are better (but maybe more expensive)
Review 26:Great location
Review 27:No wifi in bedrooms, no aircon
Review 28:Location and good over all facilities
Review 29:Very noisy and hot.
Review 30:Lovely village. Plenty of parking outside.
Review 31:Internet was sketchy although not critical. Noisy at night.
Review 32:Nice PM breeze. Local ambiance was OK.
Review 33:Nothing really
Review 34:Very convenient but a little hard to find very clean and quiet Nice helpful staff
Review 35:WIFI was not very good, but there had been storms and that may have been the reason
Review 36:hotel and the general souroundings
Review 37:Beautiful small town, cobbled streets filled with people on a sunny Saturday.
Review 38:Confusing directions and unclear from booking that there were two locations.
Review 39:Floors are very creaky.
Review 40:Location is great, in the center of Santillana.
Review 41:Difficult to find - GPS had no idea where it was. Needed to ask directions twice in order to find it.
Review 42:Good Parador, centrally located in a very attractive medieval town, with plenty of shops/facilities etc. Mostly traffic free. Parking by the front door.
Review 43:We had twin beds when I had asked for a double room. There were no coffee/tea facilities in the room. If we wanted to use the hotel bar we had to go to the other parador in the town.
Review 44:The location was very central and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 45:The only difficulties were the lack of signing from the main road toindicate the whereabouts of the Parador and because of the transfer theparking was 200yds away which in the pouring rain can be a problem. Outof season few if any of the town restaurants/cafes were open
Review 46:I stayed at the Parador Gil Bas. The Parador de Santillana del mar wasclosed but our booking was transferred to Gil Bas. Gil Bas was anexcellent place to stay. A very old Town Mansion full of interestingfeatures, including suites of armour. The staff were helpful andfriendly, the town of Santillana was very picturesque.
Review 47:A superb location in a beautiful village. The hotel has typically Spanish decor with large rooms, polished wood floors and elegant furniture and furnishings. It is grand but homely. Ideal for an overnight stay before catching the ferry home from Santander. Excellent breakfast.
Review 48:The male staff was not able to use our international cards twice. I mean we had to try two different cards which we knew were not blocked. At the 3d time w/ our 3d and last credit card he decided to do it "manually", as he said, which was another machine.
Review 49:The location above all and the quietness of the place.
Review 50:It was quiet; kind people and good service; centrally located for visiting the whole region; ample parking; nice view from the window (rooms not overlooking parking lot), great breakfast fare.
Review 51:We had difficulty finding the hotel once we got to the village, nosigns. Whilst the staff were highly efficient and polite it would havebeen nice if they smiled.
Review 52:Lovely room in beautiful surroundings, very clean and comfortable
Review 53:Price of meals, particularly breakfast.
Review 54:This was a second visit, the previous being 10 years ago. Although set within a village that attracts many visitors, the Parador manages to sustain an atmosphere of calm. There are two elements and we were in the lower priced section. Nonetheless we felt the price of meals to be rather heavier than in other hotels during our holiday.
Review 55:Nothing
Review 56:Fabulous hotel. Friendly and welcoming staff. Generous and comfortable bedroom and bathroom with great views. Ample parking and a garage. Splendid breakfast. Fantastic location in centre of old town od Santillana del Mar.
Review 57:The food. It was authentically of the period which while this was in keeping with the age of the Parador it was a bit heavy for those used to modern standards.
Review 58:Dates from 11th Century and has a long history.
Review 59:No kettle.
Review 60:Lovely location. Secure parking. Nice staff. Beautiful old building. Very comfortable room.
Review 61:The gardens were overgrown so made the room dark
Review 62:Quiet room well appointed
Review 63:It was an excellent stopping off point before continuing on to Madrid. The town has some great value restaurants.
Review 64:Restaurant was understaffed. Food was not delivered in a timely manner, order was confused, we couldn't get cuenta to leave
