Reviews for Hôtel Restaurant l'Arbre de Mai

Review 1:The location was amazing, the place very clean, the people working there the best and the breakfast was very very good. I will go back to this hotel when I visit this little town, I would like to thanks Thomas, the owner, always helpful and smiling, we were very happy in our stay.

Review 2:Our room was situated above the kitchen so we unfortunately could smell when the chef was cooking (preparing food in the morning already).

Review 3:Very friendly host. Best olives ever you get for apéritif. Good location.

Review 4:Charming and very clean. Good location in a lovely village. Owner and staff very helpful.. Great continental breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice. Stayed two separate nights.

Review 5:The situation in town is excellent. My room was small but comfortable with airconditioning and a very good shower. The staff were delightful, helpful and cheerful. I would have liked a room with a view, and to have been on a lower floor. There are too many steep stairs for heavy luggage, and no lift/elevator.

Review 6:The only fault is that we had to come home so soon

Review 7:Un spoilt, traditional France. Character hotel in centre of village that exceeded expectation thanks to Mark and crew. Would recommend

Review 8:Finding the hotel was a challenge, and parking was impossible close by. We had to drop bags off and park in another street. There were about 46 steps to our room (which was compensated by the lovely view and the balcony) We were not happy at first, but after a night or two accepted this as part of village life and really got to enjoy staying here. The towels were too small.

Review 9:We had a lovely room with a large balcony overlooking the quiet street below and the beautiful rooftops. The food in the restaurant was very good, especially on our first night. We stayed 6 nights and used this as a base to explore the Luberon and Provence. We loved walking through the quiet village, away from the hordes of tourists elsewhere. There were other restaurants nearby. The staff were very helpful.Would definitely stay here again.

Review 10:Bed was like sleeping on a brick No parking nearby Breakfast choice was disappointing - bread on our first morning was hard relief staff were rather distant and unwelcoming

Review 11:Central location The owner was on duty on our second morning and the service improved radically.

Review 12:Old hotel, 3 flights up stairs. Don't bring lots of luggage. Balcony not very clean. No black tea bags at breakfast. Wanted to sit on the from terrace for a drink but heard that it was only possible for dinner.

Review 13:Comfortable big bed, clean, renovated room and bathroom (good shower) with balcony overlooking village. WiFi worked most of the time. Basic French breakfast: white bread, pain du chocolat, cornflakes, coffee. Could park motorcycle next to hotel. Quiet location in the village (only heard the church bell). Staff pleasant enough. OK for a short stay.

Review 14:We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and did not mind the lack of a lift or the lack of a telly. It was a pity we arrived a bit too late to lunch in the hotel.

Review 15:This is a cosy hotel in a pretty little village of Cucuron in Provence, not far from the 'etang' (pond) in the centre of the village. A parking place is not far from the hotel. We enjoyed a good night sleep, tasty continental breakfast with fresh products and the lovely village. Instant relaxation after long hours on the French autoroute

Review 16:There was nothing I didn't like about the hotel. I rated some areas as good (comfort and facilities) because some would have difficulty climbing the stairs to the rooms. There is no elevator and parking is a block away.

Review 17:Very friendly staff. Great location in the village. Delicious evening meals. It is not a modern facility, and if you're willing to climb the stairs to your room, this hotel is a great little place to step back in time. Our room was on the 3rd floor, had a balcony overlooking the village. Nice place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine.

Review 18:The town is absolutely quaint and quiet and friendly. A perfect location if you want to explore the Provence area. Easy access to all the mountain towns and markets ...beautiful! Such friendly staff who go out of their way and the food is delicious! The family room we stayed in was perfect!

Review 19:Staff was friendly and restaurant was wonderful. Charming village to visit.

Review 20:Loved the surprise of this place. We booked a single night en route to a two week stay in Bonnieux, and loved Cucuron.

Review 21:Food

Review 22:Bigger towels please

Review 23:The new chef has added to the quality of dinner, and the young owners are very enthusiastic. It was helpful that he spoke good English.

Review 24:Clean, good value. Delicious dinner in a relaxed setting. Good for a short stay.

Review 25:not being able to stay longer

Review 26:charming ancient area Mark was an excellent chef Nic very hospitable Clare loved town cats!!

Review 27:Location a little difficult to find.

Review 28:Excellent hosts and chef. The best French food we tasted during the trip.

Review 29:Everything in this hotel is perfect! Great, spacious, clean and comfortable triple room! wonderful food, wi fi signal and very friendly staff. Really recommend and hope to see you again!!!!

Review 30:We loved staying here! We stayed here for one night while driving through Provenence and the French Riviera. We loved it (and Cucuron) so much that we came back through for another night. Two different nights in two different rooms. Both times great. The building had lots of character. We ate at the restaurant the first night and really enjoyed ourselves. The rooms were clean and spacious and comfortable. I liked their common media room where they had books and movies and a TV (no TV in the room which was actually nice). And most importantly, a man named Nicholas worked in the hotel/restaurant and was great. He spoke great english and helped us plan some of our trip. He was a wonderful help. Overall, this place was quite, unique, and in the middle of Cucuron. What else can you ask for? If I go back to France, I want to make it back to l'Arbre de Mai!

Review 31:Other than a modern bathroom it's pretty bare. We had dinner once in the restaurant, and that was more than enough (though the local wines by the carafe were reasonable and very good.)

Review 32:We had the top room with balcony and splendid view. I'd say that's the room to ask for. It's a long climb up and down, but worth it. The village is small, but has some surprises.

Review 33:Parking is a little distance away, but not a problem. WiFi reception in rooms is a bit weak.

Review 34:Friendly, helpful staff who speaks good English. Great restaurant in the hotel. Newly renovated. Central location as a basis to explore Luberon Valley.

Review 35:Our double bed was really small and uncomfortable for two persons, especially two guys. Dinner ih the resturant was not an gastro expirience.

Review 36:Nice bulding in a very queit and empty city!

Review 37:Difficulty with finding the hotel.

Review 38:Great service and a very relaxed atmosphere. Room spacious and very clean and modern. There was a common room for reading, tv and playing games.

Review 39:Thomas and Mark are creating something unique and special in this boutique 6-room hotel in the charming, quiet, friendly, non-touristy village of Cucuron. I felt very at home and welcome (both by hotel staff and the many friendly local residents I met) during the 7 days I spent here in late September 2013 . The mood at L'Arbre de Mai is simple, relaxed, intimate and casual, combined with service that is professional with a strong personal touch. The building (300-400 years old) has plenty of charm and history, and is ideally located in the quiet centre of the old village. My room was spacious, comfortable, decorated in warm, bright tones and with a large modern bathroom, great shower. I had breakfast and dinner at the hotel most days and the food was excellent - simple, yet tasty, well presented and healthy (though healthy is hardly an adjective that best describes the sumptious choc-full chocolate mousse dessert I became very attached to!). It was an honour and a pleasure chatting with and getting to know Thomas, Mark and their families and friends who they introduced me to during my stay. I felt very at home in Cucuron and L'Arbre de Mai and would definitely return there if in Provence again. It's a place to just chill out, be still and savour life's simple pleasures. Keep up the good work,Thomas and Mark. Thanks again, Gregory

Review 40:It must be mentioned that access is difficult. Using the coordinates takes the car to a pedestrian route. The best access with large suitcases is from the back of the hotel where there are fewer stairs to deal with but access by car is uncertain if you value your side mirrors. The best way is to park at the church and bring the suitcases in from there. This info could be provided on booking. Bathroom not very privateIt must be mentioned that access is difficult. Review 41:The hotel is located right in the middle of town and is easy walking distance from the main areas. Room well sized and beautifully decorated. Interesting view over the roofs to the clock tower and the fortress. The breakfast was good. We only ate there one night and we really enjoyed our meal. We would highly recommend particularly if visiting with small overnight cases because if you bring a car to the front entry there are numerous stairs to the rooms.

Review 42:It was difficult to find the tiny village of Cucuron, then difficult tofind the hotel and parking was difficult to find. The map provided withBooking.com was useless.

Review 43:We were delighted to find this old hotel renovated to such comfort andpleasing design. We enjoyed excellent meals from chefs Eric and Mark.

Review 44:Nothing negative to say

Review 45:Central location, use of the lounge to watch Chris Froome win Tour deFrance, Food served in hotel restaurant was very good. Politeowner/host

Review 46:Small and crampt bedroom with no door to the toilet or shower room. The meal was poor and expensive and the breakfast was very basic.

Review 47:Located in the centre of a small picturesque French Village in Provence. The bedroom was fitted with an air conditioner which was very welcome during the hot nights.

Review 48:There were over 50 stairs to our room. Quite difficult for aging guests with declining flexibility. OK perhaps if forewarned. DOGs everywhere even at breakfast YUCK

Review 49:Location ambiance Young staff trying very hard Rustic, bijou charm

Review 50:It should be made clear that check-in really has to happen before 7pm, since it's difficult for the staff to check in guests once the dinner service at the cafe begins.

Review 51:Lovely, quiet town, good location for exploring the Luberon region, clean and comfortable room

Review 52:Great location in a beautiful village. The building is old but comfortable and has a nice, almost homely atmosphere. The staff is very friendly, and they run an excellent restaurant too. Highly recommended!

Review 53:Tomas, the owner was very attentive. The food was excelent and for a good price. The hotel consists of a 350 year old building newly remodeled and in very beautiful town.

Review 54:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 55:Welcoming staff, lovely room-good size and great shower. Its location-right in the heart of the lovely village of Cucuron in Provence- is perfect! And a reliable Wi-Fi:-)

Review 56:We spent one delightful night at L'arbre de mai. Thomas the owner and host, is friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the double room with a balcony on the top floor and the view over the town was gorgeous. The room was simple and clean, and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was newly renovated. Take note, the private bathroom, which opens into the room has no door, only a curtain. While this was not a problem for us, some might find it difficult. We ate in the restaurant (book ahead, we snagged the last table and it is often full) and had an absolutely delicious meal. Cucuron is a lovely small town and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at L'Arbre de Mai!

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:Thomas and his team give a very personal welcome and take great care of their guests. We arrived late from the airport and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel has been redecorated recently but retains its local character. Good food also. We recommend getting the front room with the high terrace which looks across the village roof tops. For film buffs, the view smacks of the 1995 film "Le Hussard sur le Toit" (Horseman on the Roof) with scenes shot in Cucuron.

Review 59:Nothing.

Review 60:Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Owner is customer oriented and willing to please along with lovely manner with all he meets. Food good too. Would definitely recommend. We have traveled a lot and are very discriminating.

Review 61:Excellent location on a beautiful street leading up a slope to the church. The stay felt like being in a home and the restaurant meals were delicious and picture perfect.

Review 62:Dinner menu did not change from the first night to the second.

Review 63:Thomas spoke very good English and was helpful with suggesting things to do in the area. Food was very good.

Review 64:Perhaps a bit more privacy with the toilets, but otherwise everything was wonderful.

Review 65:Thomas and Gil were fabulous hosts. They were very accommodating, made delicious meals, and even provided a special meal for a sick traveler. We would highly recommend a visit!

Review 66:Great location in the heart of town. The real highlight was the restaurant in the hotel. The dinner was incredible.

Review 67:Historical place, nice staff, nice food. Thank you.

Review 68:Great place to see. Very friendly staff. We had dinner, which was nice. Breakfast was simple but OK.

Review 69:Everything apart from the coffee in the morning!

Review 70:Restaurant full in the evening so we have to eat elsewhere. It looked good though!

Review 71:Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely decor.

Review 72:Internet connection / WLAN not working at the hotel

Review 73:Nice old city Good restaurants aside Place de l'Église.
