Reviews for Hôtel Massena
Review 1:The bar area is very functional but it is not cosy, it does not invite you to sit down and have a drink. I think they can improve this small area and create a nice space to use before and after going out for the evening. No complaints about the bar service. It was the atmosphere that was cold and functional.
Review 2:Friendly, courteous, and informed staff. We used their parking facilities, the hotel is near public transportation which make getting around Nice very easy, not far from the old town and good restaurants. Our room was on the 6th floor and it was quiet for a downtown location.
Review 3:Very noisy, we could here everything from other rooms, maybe walls are super thin Very bad cleaning service, toiletries never been changed when used Decor very dated, red carpets and curtains horrible when you spend many days Many of facilities didn't work properly like ventilation in bathroom shower head broken few wall plugs didn't work Over all do not think hotel should have 4 star rating
Review 4:Location
Review 5:En-suite is a little on the small side. It was spotlessly clean & this was maintained throughout our stay.
Review 6:Very central location for new & old town. Rooms comfortable, Breakfast good. Staff were very friendly & helpful.
Review 7:Poor wi-fi. You have to enter your password every hour. It's ridiculous. Why the hotels fail to deliver an internet connection nowadays when even my dog would be able to install and setup the required equipment.
Review 8:Excellent location. Great breakfast.
Review 9:My room's door wouldn't lock. They've tried to fix it several times. Eventually it was OK.
Review 10:The staff were very friendly. I also enjoyed the breakfast.
Review 11:The receptionist wasn't good. Before the trip, he sent messages without writing a word twice when I asked questions. I had already had a very bad impressions. I thought he looked down on me. There wasn't a ventilation in the bathroom, so we needed to open the window. Some mosquitos came to the room in spite of the winter, so we couldn't sleep well. And It was too hot during the night. There wasn't a system of controlling the temperature. The room was smaller than I had expected.
Review 12:The location was good. The room was very clean.
Review 13:Few points :1. I was gonna put my laundry and asked the reception how's the procedure and if they could help us with it (in Asia or 4-5 stars hotel we only need to leave the laundry in the laundry bag and the housekeeping will take care of it.). HERE, apparently we have to fill in the forms ourselves, decide the price ourselves (form was in french and we obviously don't get french) and bring it down to the receptionist because apparently, I QUOTE, they " CANT DO IT BECAUSE IT IS YOUR LAUNDRY, THIS HOTEL IS DIFFERENT! " --> I dont know which receptionist was in shift, but it was on a THURSDAY MORNING (26th of November around 10AM). 2. When we're back to our room on Friday Night, the bathroom was not properly cleaned. And by "not proper", I meant with our towels in the sink, no tissue, and dirty used mat in the bathtub ( PICTURES ATTACHED ). When I told the reception about this, she didnt seem shocked, she called the housekeeping to "fix" it and what happened was they just put the same towel from the sink to the towel rack and didn't even move the mat from the tub. How disgusting. I think to give any score to the staff and service is an embarrasment (except for the very smart and fluent guy in the receptionist when we checked in, he is good). Even a 3 star hotel doesn't do this. 3. THE WIFI IS SUPER SLOW and keep disconnects every 15 mins you have to put in your login name and password again and again ( with weird numbers and letters combo ). Too much hassle and very inconvenient.
Review 14:There's this one reception guy who speaks a very good english (maybe he's dutch? ) when we arrived. Our check-in was pleasant withno problem at all.
Review 15:Staff where not honest or cooperative Room super small (it is not even a tradition room.!) I tried to talk with manager for an issue, the front desk refused to refer me.
Review 16:Location, Breakfast
Review 17:Only the room was quit hot (about 23°C?) but generally it is a problem of the weather and all hotels in Nice in November (no air condition November)
Review 18:everything; I travel a lot but this was all together probably to most friendly place I was staying at meaning the hotel and area, not the city itself - New York was better :-)
Review 19:Great staff, lovely boutique hotel that has been recently refurbished, we would definitely return to this hotel due to the great location, cleanliness, comfort and lovely staff.
Review 20:Apparently prices can be very high during the hot season, which make this hotel compared to other more classy one in the area, and not in its favor. Also hotel styling is mediocre, but this is very personal.
Review 21:Perfect location, good breakfast
Review 22:No complaints
Review 23:Good location close to old town, cours selaya and restaurants etc, yet in a quiet area. Friendly staff (all spoke good english), nice clean rooms, supercomfty beds, good breakfast. Near several busses to the airport (dont pay eur 6 for bus 98 - there are many others fm airport to center at eur 1,50 a ride)
Review 24:The rooms were very warm and didn't have air conditioning that we could control ourselves. Therefore we had a to leave a window open at night time.
Review 25:It was a lovely hotel. Very central. Close to the city centre (without being noisy) and 5 minute walk to the beach. The staff were very helpful too. The breakfast was nice also.
Review 26:Our room was very very warm and the air con didn't help. Had to open windows to sleep (but then got bitten by mosquitos).
Review 27:The location is great - 5 mins walk to the old town and 2 mins to the main shopping area. Quite liked the movie theme going on throughout the hotel. Didn't eat there as lots of restaurants nearby, but the bar prices were quite good.
Review 28:Air conditioning turned off across whole hotel. Had to open door to balcony as too warm on 6th floor. Was then badly bitten by mosquitos.
Review 29:Very central location. Clean and modern rooms Extremely helpful staff
Review 30:onky one staff was available at the reception in the morning, she was very professional and we were definitely satisfied with but a long que of guests waiting for checking out or obtaining information, it is management problem to be improved.
Review 31:very wide variety of breakfast, normal but not interrupted internet connection, very clean room prepared, quiet and nice location in town
Review 32:Awful Internet. Free but it disconnects you after 2 hours and you need to log in each two hours in a convoluted process and INCREDIBLY slow. INFURIATING! Pokey bathroom. Tiny separate lavatory with no extractor fan - horrible Breakfast not included and incredibly expensive Booked a non smoking room and had to make a fuss to get it changed as the first room had obviously been used by smokers - it stank
Review 33:Fairly convenient
Review 34:Free WiFi was a huge pain. You had to log on every hour! It didn't automatically connect when we returned to the hotel.
Review 35:Excellent location, wonderful breakfast, great bathroom, very helpful staff, nice bedrooms, spacious bathrooms.
Review 36:The staff could've have been friendlier. They were helpful but if they were nicer it would've made all the difference.
Review 37:The room was amazing and location was perfect. It was close to everything.
Review 38:Hotel room was on the top floor modern ,small ,clean and quiet . I asked for room on a high floor with a balcony , that was great. We had a big balcony with sunbed , chairs and table. Very good location ,It's located close to everything, the old town, and near to shopping and restaurants.
Review 39:I am a flight crew and it was the 4th time I stayed in this hotel. I had to leave for an early emergency flight one day earlier than my booking and they refused to change the reservation so I got charged for an extra night even if I left and informed them on time.
Review 40:the location of the hotel is very good and the rate of the room is ok comparing to the prices of the area. cleanliness of the hotel is quite good.
Review 41:can't think of anything that would be of a concern. clean and comfortable. what more can you want?
Review 42:everything. second time to this hotel. perfect location, friendly and helpful staff. if ever go to nice again wil stay at the mesena.
Review 43:Very efficient and friendly staff Very intelligent and extremely helpful front desk. I cannot tell you how important it is to have a switched on and helpful front desk Laurent was especially helpful.
Review 44:The atmosphere in the breakfast room was quite depressing for the marvels of Firenze that await the weary traveller.
Review 45:Basic hotel with basic facilities, but there was a bar of sorts and a small terrace with garden, both of which more could be done with. 10mins by bus to station or 40min walk to Ponte Vecchio. Considering the price it did not disappoint.
Review 46:Breakfast area much too crowded (we couldn't find a table the first day), and breakfast selections are quite limited. The internet connections reminded us what it used to be 10-15 years ago: little slips of paper with an access code, and one is automatically disconnected every two hours, even when working. Come on, can do better than that!
Review 47:Good location; friendly and helpful staff
Review 48:Breakfast room too small for the number of guests. Queuing for coffee and poor selection of fresh fruit.
Review 49:Staff were excellent. Great location. Rooms basic but comfortable and clean.
Review 50:Can't think of anything
Review 51:Great location! Our room was smal but had everything we needed. A good bed, nice sheets, lift, hot water, good water pressure, a great breakfast, very nice staff and s great location!
Review 52:Breakfast can be more diverse. Logging into wifi several tens of times during our stay cause the system kicks us out. Domes rooms R too tight with only one small wardrobe, no drawers or shelves
Review 53:Location is perfect
Review 54:Breakfast wasnt what i expected.Staff was bad-tempered. They seem like they forgot how to smile when they speak to customers.
Review 55:Location was pretty close to everywhere.
Review 56:The toilet was separate to the bathroom and was very small. Decor and colour scheme in the bedroom was very dated.
Review 57:Location was perfect. Close to shopping and bus-stop for No. 98 Airport Bus. The shower and hair-dryer were good.
Review 58:Upgraded to privilige room asked for balcony! instead we got what you would call coffin room and very narrow not good at all you just wouldn't feel safe on it so we choose not to take the chance.
Review 59:Comfortable super location nice staff
Review 60:Some of the corners of the shower cabin are molded and dirty, they have to do something about this. No fitness room.
Review 61:The room's equipments are ok, room size is also quite ok. The room is clean, the hotel's location is also good, it's exactly in the center of Nice, also near to the beach. You can sleep very well in this hotel.
Review 62:The price was a bit on the high side as regards the service provided.
Review 63:Location was pretty good, staff was pretty effective at check in/out and taxi calling. Nothing spacial however.
Review 64:Having to login to wifi was a minor nuisance. Couldn't sit out on balcony as no chairs.
Review 65:location was really good. Loved the décor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Liked the balcony and wifi availability plus the fridge was handy.
Review 66:Very small room, very old. Real rooms different than pictures. I was disappointed, i booked for 2 nights but I stayed only one and moved to another hotel. Didn't get my money back. I don't know why they rated this hotel 4 stars I think 2 star will be fare.
Review 67:Just location
Review 68:Cleanliness was generally very good however, on arrival there.was litter left on the balcony from previous occupiers.
Review 69:Location, breakfast, room size, comfort, pleasant and helpful staff.
Review 70:My room was a bit small but it didn't bother me as I was only in it to sleep . The breakfast could do with a bit more variety.
Review 71:The location is great as its close to the beach and restaurants.
Review 72:Wifi kept cutting out; it was irritating to have to sign-in every day - sometimes twice a day! Probably because we booked late, our room overlooked the bag yard and was very unattractive.
Review 73:Good location. Room very clean and staff pleasant and helpful.
Review 74:The hotel as a 4 star wasn't to a usual standard of a 4 star. Wasn't offered any parking at time of booking. Breakfast was ok but the price is ridiculous. Room was very small.
Review 75:Good location,
Review 76:No pool unlike most of the properties of this category in nice. Also do not think* it has even an outdoor terrace? There is a bar inside.
Review 77:Lovely staff, great location
Review 78:Annoying to re enter wifi password every time I used my device and overpriced slightly especially the parking €30 (quoted 25 on the website)
Review 79:Good Location Gr8 night sleep and helpful staff
Review 80:The internet connection was really-really bad! Often not working!
Review 81:Close to the beach, shopping street and to the old town of Nice. Nice stuff, clean rooms! Everything perfect except the internet!
Review 82:Lack of flexibility with check out times. Our flight was 9.30pm and the hotel would not allow us to stay later int he day or provide access to a shower so we could freshen up before the flight home. Room was comfortable but and a little small. Decoration was ok but looked liked it was old and could do with a freshen up. Breakfast was Eur17 (reduced to Eur13 if we agreed to have breakfast for the entire stay but we had to decide before we actually experienced the breakfast - if we had known that there was a really tiny choice of american/english then would not have agreed.
Review 83:Parking problems A bit expensive Wi-fi you have to re connect all the time
Review 84:Location is Perfect !! Very friendly and helping staff The rooms are nice and comfortable Breakfast is very nice
Review 85:Wifi could be a little temperamental but overall was adequate.
Review 86:Breakfast was very good with good choice of fruit and breads, suited our palette very well as we are used to our home comforts such as cereal and toast.
Review 87:The size of the bathroom was awfully small, we had to take turns because we both didn't fit, and the door bumped into the closet door. That was not good .for the price we paid.
Review 88:The air conditioned unit was great
Review 89:1)When I arrived at the hotel I met an intern in the reception and she did not speak English. I paid 440 EUR for 2 night stay and several times I had to teach an intern how to speak English. 2)Wi fi is very bad. Firsty you have to log in (with password) every hour and secondly it also dissapeared frequently. To look at my internetbank balance I had to log in ~10 times. 3)Unauthorized they withheld reservation guarantee payment from my credit card. Then I wanted to pay the difference but they charged me fully and several days after my stay cash is still reserved. 4) one the first day we noticed that our quilt cover is dirty. Ok, I expected that in **** hotel they change linens every day. But they did not as after cleaning linens still were dirty 5) I requested car parking and hotel send me "extra cost will be 30 euros" without mentioning that this was FOR 1 DAY. I would never stay in the hotel with such an expensive parking 6) Parking is quite far away Ok, hotel personnel can take your car there but I personally like to visit my car on frequent basis during eurotrips not to take all possible things from car to the room 7) Breakfast is not tasty. Ok, if included in your room rate, you can take some fruits or bread but avoid paying for this breakfast seperately. Overall, during my 16 days eurotrip this was worst hotel I stayed.
Review 90:Close to sea
Review 91:Poor wifi, disconnect in a very short time, need to login in every time
Review 92:very nice location, convenient Nice facilities , asked reception for iron and sewing kit
Review 93:The wifi connection in higher levels is not good, not all rooms have the same view or the same space inside, breakfast us not complimentary
Review 94:The location is perfect, some rooms are very spacious, the cleaning is very good, coplimentary wifi, comparing to the hotels and prices in nice it is good value for money!
Review 95:We booked an upscale room which we found very nice, though not very economically funished. Commented about hard beds and it was corrected at once. Staff was very receptive to other sugestions and observations in the hotel. Hotel location is very convenient with walking opportunities and shopping possibilities. Handle english speaking customers very well.
Review 96:The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Well situated for watching the 10th French Iron Man Triathlon, plus close to shops, the old town and the beach
Review 97:Our room was on the second floor at the front of the building overlooking a road. The sound of scooters was annoying as were the noisy refuse collectors at a ridiculous hour of the night.
Review 98:The location of the hotel is good, the room, although small, was clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful when required.
Review 99:Nothing really. It was a very good hotel. To be picky, the the bathroom and toilet doors needed a coat of paint.
Review 100:The central location, service and breakfast.
Review 101:Carpet in room was a little dingy Bathroom sink severely stopped up and was disgusting and barely useable.
Review 102:Good Location Friendly And Helpful Staff Comfortable Bed
Review 103:Hotel needs renovation... everything is old.. Price is too high.. its not worth it.. Hotel staff is quite arrogant and not very helpfull
Review 104:The location
Review 105:Couldn't extend for 2hrs more as they where full arrivals so no where to shower after being to beach after checking out as late flight.
Review 106:Modern hotel, so clean, staff so helpful and great location
Review 107:Staff were excellent, very helpful. The rooms were great albeit a bit small but usual for Europe. The breakfast was excellent for 13 euros. The location was very central.
Review 108:When we arrived we were told that from arrival Mon. 25th May to departure 1st. June we would have special deal of 13 Euros each for breakfast each day. We took advantage of that and enjoyed 6 (x2) breakfasts but on leaving was charged 17Euros (x2) each day!!!!
Review 109:Room was very good. Breakfast very good Staff pleasant and obliging.
Review 110:check in seems ill prepared----and I saw this daily. I had to wait from noon until 4p.m. to check in.
Review 111:pleasant staff, great location near tram to go to train.
Review 112:Expencive breakfast
Review 113:The staff was very competent and frendly. The location perfect. This is the Third time we visit Massena and got the same room as requested. Quitet location.
Review 114:too much noise from outside, poor staff at reception, room price was already very high for such a hotel, plus 17 euro for breakfast !
Review 115:great location, next to lafayette
Review 116:We booked a standard double room and as this hotel is advertised as a 4 star we expected a certain standard. In my opinion these rooms are not even 3 star. Our room 211 was tiny and very badly layed out. There was no room to walk around the bed as the console table and chair were directly at the end of it. You had to move the chair to get to the far side of the bed. The wardrobe was tiny but worst of all the toilet was separate from the bathroom in a tiny cupboard with no wash hand basin! Very unhygienic as you had to open doors in both rooms without being able to wash you hands! When we complained on the first morning we were told we had booked a standard room and that is what we got. We could have a better room if we payed more. All standard rooms were the same size with perhaps a different layout. So really if you want a room that is normal 4 star standard in this hotel you must pay for a superior room!
Review 117:The location of this hotel is very convenient to the old town and port. The breakfast room is nice and there was a good selection of food. The public areas in the hotel are fine. Pity about the standard bedrooms!
Review 118:Stayed for three nights, location is great, rooms were a little small bit clean and comfortable, all the staff were great, would definitely stay again.
Review 119:WIFI had to be logged in after 1 hour which was a bit annoying
Review 120:The hotel is very well situated, easy walking distance of old town ,promenade des anglais etc.
Review 121:Not very helpful staff, not responsive to requests, room was very hot and location was very noisy so it was impossible to get a good nights sleep.
Review 122:Location and access to trams and restaurants
Review 123:Internal decoration .. Too modern for the classic old building. Average breakfast.
Review 124:Location, good size room & bathroom, helpful reception desk staff.
Review 125:Felt more like a 3 star than 4 star. Room could do with a refresh, especially the toilet and bathroom. The shower head was positioned wrong so was hard to keep from flooding the floor. Pillows were a bit high for me anyway. Breakfast was ok, bit overpriced for what was on offer and same selection every day.
Review 126:Location was great, staff were very friendly. Bar drinks were priced reasonably.
Review 127:Hotel accommodation was very disappointing, room dated and tired, absolutely no bedroom storage at all except for a tiny wardrobe, we had to live out of our suitcases. Lift painfully slow. Bathroom very poor, shower almost inoperative, the hairdryer was useless and would cut out after 30 seconds use. very noisy at night time with people in the road shouting and cars revving and brakes screeching all night. Night time staff very unhelpful and clearly begrudged providing a sachet of coffee!! Breakfast a total shambles, a real DIY event, not worth the extra cost!!
Review 128:Central location with good level access to the town centre, transport and the seafront, day time staff helpful.
Review 129:The room was very small. You could hardly get through the door (I am only 5'2 and 120lbs) and found it difficult to use the shower because of space. No room at all to move around. I was offered another room, and although larger it was in a bad position on the ground floor and didn't smell very nice. Pillows on bed very uncomfortable.
Review 130:Very helpful staff. Good location near bars, restaurants and shops. Nice and quiet on top floor.
Review 131:The location. Walking distance from the Promenade, restuarants, shoping streets, the old town. Staff were very helpful. And we got an upgrade on our room which happily meant we got a room with a small balcony. Very pleasant indeed!
Review 132:hotel looks old and needs to be refreshed, breakfast poor and was over when we came at 10.30AM ( while it is supposed to run until 11AM), expensive, not so clean
Review 133:Good central location, nice staff.
Review 134:Rooms were little small for our liking.
Review 135:We are impressed with the kindness and professionalism of the hotel staff. It is also consistent not one or two but all personnel was great.
Review 136:one of our party was pick pocketed on train (beware) toilet in our room was like a glass fish bowl?
Review 137:very enjoyable stay lots of sunshine and exploring the city
Review 138:Not a Bad experience, but could do with some hooks in the bathroom area, and please use decent spoons on the tea stand in the bedroom.
Review 139:Location, very helpful staff, and spotlessly clean .thanks for a wonderful stay.
Review 140:No where to put your clothes. The bedroom cupboard too small lived out of our suitcases, one of which was on the floor next to the bed, for 6 days. Hotel entrance modern not the same decor as the bedroom which is out dated.
Review 141:Location, very central near the airport bus stop.Breakfast good value.Staff very helpful.
