Reviews for Hôtel Le Petit Palais
Review 1:too quiet, even having the TV on at night caused problems for people in the next room. parking can be a problem unless you pay
Review 2:Friendly staff, clean room, nice view
Review 3:Nothing to complain about actually.
Review 4:We had a great stay and we were delighted by the nice service we received from the staff. For the money we paid I think it offered really good value for money and great service. (1) Check-in was smooth and they respected my booking request for a room with sea view; (2) Very clean, tidy and beautiful interior decor; (3) Very nice breakfast selection which we ordered in the room on our last day before check-out; (4) Location is indeed a bit far away from city center but that only provides a quiet atmosphere and a great view point above the city.
Review 5:Only wished we had stayed longer.
Review 6:The location and view was excellent. Very comfortable beds and we'll furnished rooms. Friendly staff and great breakfast.
Review 7:Beautiful location (up the hill), view from the room is spectacular, the staff are very friendly, its a great hotel overall. Matisse and Chagall Museums are both nearby.
Review 8:couldn't make the jet-stream work in the pool, i like swimming in october.. I woke up hearing the neighbors talk softly the parrot talks loudly, though not at night
Review 9:beautiful room with a view, tastefully decorated. lovely express breakfast on bed
Review 10:Noise between rooms: you could listen what was happening in any one of the adjacent rooms
Review 11:Staff attitude and willingness to help us have a wonderful time
Review 12:Walking up and down the hill from hotel to town
Review 13:Very friendly personnel, comfortable beds, nice terrace, good breakfast, location is not too far from centre of town (15 minute walk)
Review 14:Patrick and his team provided an amazing stay. The are very professional but warm and welcoming. They went out of their way when I left my handbag in the taxi, ringing taxi companies and being very reassuring. Yes I got it back. We had a lovely sea view and our room and the hotel has a beautiful ambience. It is in an excellent location away from the noise but within a short walk of old city and Cimiez.
Review 15:Long walk from shopping, restaurant, and sea. Very little pool. Expensive breakfast.
Review 16:Small, quite hotel. Little nice garden. Nice view from the room.
Review 17:WiFi wasn't working in the room.
Review 18:Friendly, helpful staff. Great views from sea facing rooms. Peaceful residential location. Well designed decoration and comfortable room.
Review 19:It's a small bit out of town and had to take a taxi home each night
Review 20:Such a lovely place to stay in Nice staff were absolutely lovely and very helpful!
Review 21:Rooms near breakfast room or front desk could be noisy. Free wifi is very slow.
Review 22:Excellent boutique hotel. Quiet location, yet short walk to old town, restaurants & beach. Good breakfast at fair price.
Review 23:1. The room booked was for a sea view room. if I sat on my bed and look out the window, the only thing I saw was a building, The booking information was misleading. 2. There was a spot light that shined right into the room. 3. WiFi was out 70% of the time. 4. They made no accommodation for the price and inconvenience. 5. The location was over 20 min. from old town and an uphill walk to the hotel. 5. I asked for ice and night manager flamboyantly told me I was in France and they don't serve ice in France! 6. High traffic area with school on the hill and no parking. 7. I would not recommend. There are other hotels in a much better location.
Review 24:The beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good, but charged $16.00 per person.
Review 25:i only wish i could've stayed longer!
Review 26:this hotel and staff made stay out of this world! phillip and cristoph wer so helpful in giving me restaurant suggestions, directions and made me feel very welcome. i would stay her again in a heart beat and would recommend hotel petite palais to everyone! everything was perfect!
Review 27:The walk up the hill to the hotel after dinner. Oh, well, burned off the calories from the fine food.
Review 28:The hotel is a lovely villa in the hills above Nice. The room was comfortable and very clean. The staff were exceptional. They were helpful and friendly and made our stay lovely. The location is in a quiet, tree lined, neighborhood of lovely homes.
Review 29:Nice neighbourhood on top of hill, with a good view of the bay. Very comfortable & relaxing. The staff were very helpful, pleasant and friendly. Liked the secure parking.
Review 30:Room and bathroom in very bad condition. Very old style furniture. Very unfriendly staff. Far from the city center. Definitely not worth to book and stay!
Review 31:Nice hold building with a great view.
Review 32:The sea view room was breathtaking, the bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool area was peaceful and beautiful. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to the train station/town. The hotel is on a hill, so it helps you work off all the delicious wine and food you will eat in Nice!
Review 33:Quite a hike down into the main town (or rather quite a hike back up!). It was extremely hot to be fair though - in cooler months it would be OK.
Review 34:Staff (especially Christoph) and overall quality of hotel.
Review 35:No bad experience, but the walk home to hotel after a night out was a bit of a challenge. The bathroom was a bit small and dated, and the shower arrangement over the bath was not the best design we have seen. We could not get a Wifi connection on our Motorola phones, but it was ok on our Ipad.
Review 36:The wonderful staff and the excellent, but very expensive, breakfast. The hotel was located in a lovely, quiet residential area at the top of a hill and we had an excellent view from our room across the bay of Nice.
Review 37:The toilet is right next to the sink making it difficult to use without turning your body and the shower head faces the curtains which is a bit strange. The WiFi is also quite hard to connect.
Review 38:The staff is very friendly and helpful making us feel very welcome. The room was well decorated, clean and the sea view is fantastic. We left a jacket at the hotel but the staff was quick to respond and posted it to Paris within a few days. The garden where you eat breakfast is very nice too.
Review 39:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 40:This hotel may be classified as 3 star, but I would say it was as good, if not better, than any 5 star. Every member of the team was polite and went out of their way to make sure we had a lovely stay. I would return to this hotel for sure.
Review 41:Fabulous friendly staff, welcoming and extremely helpful. Hotel is calm and relaxing in a peaceful location walking distance to attractions and city centre.
Review 42:The bathroom was badly designed with a shelf under the sink that made it impossible to sit on the toilet without your twisting legs to one side.
Review 43:A nice bedroom with a wondeful view. The staff were charming and couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast in the garden was delightful.
Review 44:The swimming pool is more of a paddling pool which is not quite how it looks on the website so we opted not to use it.
Review 45:The staff were great especially as we cannot speak French, very helpful. We were given an upgrade on our room to one with a sea view, very nice.
Review 46:Only slightly off the beaten track, close enough to central Nice to be convenient. Quiet, peaceful and well facilitated location with polite and helpful staff.
Review 47:We loved everything about the hotel and special thanks to Christophe for all his help with booking arrangements for us and suggestions of excellent places to eat.
Review 48:Location was at the top of a steep road and taxis were expensive
Review 49:The pool was a heavenly retreat from the heat and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 50:The climb up the hill is mentioned by many for good reason! It is very steep and very long and not easy in the heat! Makes the short trip to the old town less straight forward but does give the good views.
Review 51:Lovely Hotel with good views to the sea from our room which was really nice (room 308). Lovely patio/garden to sit in.
Review 52:Breakfast was a bit expensive for what it was.
Review 53:Friendly staff, clean room, lots of character in the building, great views over the city and Coast, good swimming pool area, good food and drink service by the pool.
Review 54:A bit of climb to get to the hotel on foot, but no problem.
Review 55:Extremely friendly staff, great service. Everything neat and a nice selection at breakfast.
Review 56:no bad experience but would have been nice to have had clear walking instructions from bus drop off points (eg station and Garibaldi square) on the hotel web site as it wasn't easy to find.
Review 57:location and views right over bay
Review 58:Loved the location, although up a huge hill but worth burning the calories for the views are wonderful! The style of the hotel is beautiful, comfortable and chic
Review 59:We had a sea view with terrace that was fabulous (I took the advice of previous comments to book upper room with sea view). Breakfast was a very nice selection. Room on the small side but with the terrace, we spent the evening outside. The staff was great. The only downside, we were just passing through and only spent one night.
Review 60:If you are in Nice for a first time or just fir a short break may be it s better to accomodate somewhere closer to old town as it takes about 15 minutes to get there from hotel, coming back is more difficult ( could be a little inconvenient for aged people).
Review 61:Everything is very well organized, nice and full of style, good taste and has an air of relaxing atmosphere. Really cosy room and pleasant breakfast, very good pool and terrace with view. Comliments to owner and staff.
Review 62:Fantastic views over the town from our 1st floor room. Staff very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent in a quiet and safe residential area although the walk up the hill at the end of a hot day is a little daunting! The pool and terrace are a very pleasant facility for relaxing in between sightseeing. Excellent buffet breakfasts. All in all an excellent small hotel
Review 63:Facilities were fantastic, heated outdoor pool! Staff so happy to help, converse and make our stay so comfortable. Upon arrival we were greeted with a big smile and given a map of the local area and shown our proximity to all the top attractions. Perfect holiday.
Review 64:Our room was not well soundproofed.
Review 65:It was a perfect stay in Nice as it was a very friendly hotel in a quite area with stunning views over Nice and not far away from the city centre, the old town, and the promenade.
Review 66:Parking on the street if you were very lucky, one person expecting to work in all areas at the same time, waiting in reception or the bar for service. Website mentioned 500m from the beach, more like a 25 minute walk and a mountain climb back to the hotel. Would not return.
Review 67:Quiet Area
Review 68:The room was very comfortable, with an amazing view over Nice. The breakfast was varied and abundant, the reception was very cheerful and accomodating.
Review 69:It's location has some difficulty in approaching to cetral city, but not big problem.
Review 70:It is a nice hotel with beautiful garden & good view. The staff was very kind. Our room was clean & comfortable.
Review 71:The bar and garden area was closed for renovation work. We would have liked to have use of all areas of the hotel.
Review 72:The view from our room was fantastic. The staff was welcoming and helpful.
Review 73:Very thin walls between rooms. We have heard few Skype conversations crystal clear from the room next to us, and almost all other actions, clatters from the other neighbour.
Review 74:Nice view from the pretty Hotel in very good and green neighbourhood. Friendly staff, clean room, good breakfast.
Review 75:We chose this hotel particularly because on trip advisor it stated, pet friendly and free car parking. It is up on top of a hill overlooking Nice but on a very narrow street, on arrival there was nowhere to park, after an extended discussion with reception staff they finally admitted they have secure parking next door (down the road behind an electronic code controlled gate) but charged 10 euros extra per night! They are dog friendly but charged 15 euros extra per night! Breakfast served in your room as the dining room and terrace was closed for redecoration 17 euros per person! Altogether an expensive overnight stay. The room was ok but rather dated, bathroom with old type shower over bath. It's a fair old walk to any restaurants and a serious cardiovascular workout to get back. Nice views (pardon the pun) but...altogether to much hassle.
Review 76:Was a little bit of a walk up/down a hill to/from town but not really a problem.
Review 77:Lovely rooms with sea views and balconys. Very comfortable bed and nice room.
Review 78:A bit noisy, you can hear the sound from other rooms. Need 10min walk to the old city and seaside.
Review 79:It is an elegant hotel with lots of eastern elements, they have a beautiful garden which we quite enjoyed the breakfast there.
Review 80:Drive uphill to the hotel is a challenge, at least for the first time. The area close to the pool is closed and my little niece really wantedto check out there....
Review 81:It is a really nice hotel. Good design of the hotel, rooms and the smallgarden. The staff was good and nice. Our rooms have very good views ofthe city and sea.
Review 82:The air conditioning was limited. The toilet paper was rationed. Thin walls. We were asked three times by reception if we'd had breakfast there that morning - she obviously didn't believe us. Was it the reduced rate that we paid?
Review 83:Beautiful hotel. Great location. Very warm and accommodating reception. We were able to come a day early with no problem, which helped us enormously.
Review 84:Sits high on a high so a steep walk down and back to the city. No restaurants at same level as the hotel
Review 85:Great view and spacious room. Walk to museums and city. Nice breakfast on patio
Review 86:Being an older hotel we could hear people talking in the next room and sometimes in the foyer. There was no restaurant on site. Situated on a hillside (as many hotels are) the 10-15 minute walk back from the town could be seen as a negative for some but it is definitely manageable and there are plenty of taxis.
Review 87:We only stayed two nights but could see ourselves returning for a longer stay (I would be sure to request ocean view next time, our room faced the street but had a lovely outlook onto the pool area at the side of the hotel). The queen size bed was very comfortable, the bathroom small but included bath and bidet. The internet connection was flawless. Carol was very gracious and helpful, her suggested restaurant for dinner was excellent (we returned for the second night). We would recommend Le Petit Palais and hope to return.
Review 88:The hotel in itself was no the problem, but its location was. It is 20 minutes by foot from the old town, but steeply uphill. Which wasn't mentioned in the description. Very inconvenient when you have to walk up and down a couple of times a day. And the hotel had no dining facilities. So next time I will look for something more at sea level. Only 2 parking places available. The hotel is located in a residential area, with -very- narrow streets. 80% of the cars parked in these streets had their sides severely damaged, so not a good place to leave your car behind.
Review 89:The location was close to the airport so with jet lag it was an easy hop. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The hotel is truly an old Grande Dame. Beautiful grounds, lovely terrace for breakfast. Highly recommend!
Review 90:The hotel is at the top of a very steep hill which takes some effort to walk up. Not ideal if you aren't particularly fit or if you have shopping to carry.
Review 91:Friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was first class and the lady serving (can't remeber her name) is lovely and always greets you with a big smile. The building and room were clean and very comfortable, with an awesome panoramic view of Nice. Excellent garden and pool area!!
Review 92:Uphill walk back from the centre of Nice. Meant making good judgement calls on meals and sightseeing in hot weather. The hotel should decide wether they really want to do evening meals or not. You get the feeling that they dont want guests around from around 8pm expecting food. Before that is fine. Is it a hotel or an upmarket B&B? You need to be fit and a good walker if you are getting around without a car ( as we were).
Review 93:Pool Decor and location great Bed Amazing house keeping Good brek - fast Laid back atmosphere.- in a busy tourist town. Great Museums and the beach/old ton/markets are walkable. As is the main train station, which is a good conduit to South of France must see locations at reasonable prices.
Review 94:Service from the bar (out on the patio) was quite slow, and our check-out was delayed by about 15 minutes as the reception clerk was apparently also responsible for helping to set up the breakfast service!
Review 95:The hotel was comfortable, clean and quiet - no street noise to disturb your sleep. Both the breakfast and a light snack from the bar were tasty and more than sufficient quantity. Most staff were exceedingly helpful, charming and friendly.
Review 96:We liked everything, although the distance from shops can be a bit daunting at first (until you get your bearings).
Review 97:The setting up in the hills, removed from the clamour of the city, but a short walk away. The building is very cute, the interior well appointed and the rooms beautiful. Although there is not a ful restaurant, full breakfast and snacks are available.
Review 98:Very tiny swimming pool, but it's not an issue.
Review 99:fantastic location, amazing views from our room, extremely friendly personnel, first class breakfast, free parking on the street right outside the hotel.
Review 100:Whilst hotel is set in a very beautiful part of Nice it is residential so no bars and restaurants close by. Set on a hill you need to be very fit to get in out of centre of Nice.
Review 101:Typically French hotel. Beautiful balcony and fabulous views of Nice and Cote de Azure.
Review 102:We like a little walk/exercise so coming up the hill to Le Palais was not an issue for us. 15 minutes from most areas below. Suspect most guess feel the same but if you want to be next to it "all" then you'll grumble a bit.
Review 103:The view of Nice all the way down to the ocean was spectacular. We were on a third floor triple with a small balcony. the bed was sooooo comfortable after many days of traveling in Provence. Staff was very helpful and super friendly. Our 5 year old daughter loved her little bed opposite mommy and daddy's. Breakfast on the patio was so pleasant and calming.
Review 104:The location was high up on the hill, great going down into Nice in the morning, but of an evening up hill was no good for our age group and my husband who had recently had a heartattack.
Review 105:everything, especially the air conditioned room. Best nights sleep I've had in years!!
Review 106:A little far from the beach, but definitely worth it!!
Review 107:The hotel is the one we love the most during our stay in France. It's just beautiful. The garden is really lovely, room is spacious and clean, bed and pillows are comfortable, staff are helpful and warm. Wifi connection is stable.
Review 108:They kept a bright light on all night in the back yard which kept our room lit. The door to the patio had no screen or dark out curtain. There was a sheer curtain but thicker curtains only covered the windows & the patio door was glass. I have a very hard time sleeping with that much light.
Review 109:Loved the breakfasts on the patio. Pretty setting and good food. The room was small but quite good. We were on the bottom floor in back and had a cute patio.
Review 110:Nowt much. Balcony was there but too small to use for anything. Pay the extra for a sea view if you can, ground floor room looks like it could suffer from noise.
Review 111:Enjoyed the stay in this well kept, quiet hotel in residential area with some big gated properties around. about 15 minute walk down to Nice station. 30 mins on foot to the shore / old town and some of the better restaurants. Room was spacious enough but not vast and some tidiness needed to avoid tripping over your own bag. a decent shower over bath. Breakfast good if a tad pricey, but no alternatives nearby as far as I could see. Staff very friendly, courteous and helpful. pleasant enclosed garden perfect for an evening drink. Not particularly cheap, but nothing in the city is.
Review 112:A little far from the beach...a 30-35 minute walk.
Review 113:The location is idyllic. Beautiful views, quiet streets, close to restaurants and sights. The staff bent over backwards to be helpful with our comfort at the hotel, dining recommendations, and directions.
Review 114:Our stay at Hotel Le Petit Palais was a delightful experience. I had a business convention at the Nice Acropolis, but we didn't want to stay at a commercial chain hotel. Petit Palais was close enough to walk, but isolated in a residential district. It was also an easy walk to the old city for my wife. The view from room 205 of the sea, the old city, and the new city was breathtaking. The garden for breakfast and coffee is wonderful; the food for breakfast was excellent. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. It is a marvelous place to stay in Nice.
Review 115:The location is nice and quiet but you have to walk quite a bit to get to the city centre and restaurants.
Review 116:The staff is really friendly and the hotel is beautiful, with a lovely little garden and quite big rooms for a French hotel.
Review 117:The location of the hotel is up quite a steep hill. This hotel would not be suitable for elderly people that would like a easy stroll into the centre. Breakfast is expensive so we chose to enjoy the cafe culture in the local area.
Review 118:Petit Palis is a charming hotel with very friendly helpful staff. Clean and comfortable, lovely views from the room. We would be happy to stay there again.
Review 119:Couldn't use the pool in early morning or evening, due to worries about making a noise for the other guests. Not really a problem though. Lovely hotel!
Review 120:Very friendly staff. Make a good G&T! Helpful and knowledgeable in giving advice on the area.
Review 121:Walls paper thin. Could hear every word of conversation from both sides of our room right through til 2 every night. Did find it a little weird hearing every grunt & groan of couple into the early hours! It sounded as though people were in our room hanging clothes in wardrobe! Worse sleep we've ever had. Asked older woman on front desk for earplugs (as advertised in their room service guide) but she gave me a look as though I had slapped her! Also, the fake grass out front and back look a bit cheap.
Review 122:Lovely views, breakfast was superb. Very clean.
Review 123:Nothing!
Review 124:Staff were outstanding, friendly and helpful, bi-lingual, nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful area, easy access to Town, breakfasts were excellent. No restaurant, however provision made for room service until 8 00pm.
Review 125:Staff we're very welcoming and helpful. The small pool area is lovely. Breakfast was great. The hotel is in a great location just a quick drive out of the old centre.
Review 126:The hotel room did not offer tea/coffee, although cold beverages were available in the minibar fridge.
Review 127:Our entire stay was marvellous! The hotel is gorgeous and filled with character. It is perfectly located, with only a 20min walk from the old part of Nice. Our room was large and comfortable. The glass doors in our room opened up onto the garden and we had our own little patio with table and chairs where we could relax and enjoy breakfast/coffee. Room service is limited, but we spent our days touring the city so that didn't matter. Breakfasts were delicious with no shortage of pastries. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel at ease even though we didn't speak a word of French! :) We will definitely be coming back!
Review 128:The staff was very helpful and courteous. The view was spectacular
Review 129:Staff is very warm and helpful. The location is very convenient and quite. The price is very reasonable. Parking is easy.
Review 130:Location was Good,We did not eat there....but it would seem to be good. The staff was very corteous and helpful.
The Fine Print
Please note that the hotel doesn't accept groups.
