Reviews for Hôtel de la Marine
Review 1:Nothing to dislike really.
Review 2:This hotel is rather special, I would say like a Boutique Hotel, with some lovely little touches, with their decor and pictures and other features. Bedroom decor unique and shower/bathroom fitted to the highest quality.
Review 3:The hotel restaurant is fabulous but the dinner menu was too expensive for us.
Review 4:Carteret is a lovely place for a short stay. The hotel is on the waterfront with great views.
Review 5:Room size is poor for the price per night of accommodation, bed is also very small. No bath, only a shower in bathroom.
Review 6:The location of this hotel is picturesque. Lovely modern hotel
Review 7:would say that the coffee could be of better quality, but this generally appears to apply across france so only a small quibble
Review 8:beautiful room, great attention to the details staff friendly but not in your face. found the price a little high but was a treat for my partner The dinner in the restaurant was exceptional the best food we have eaten, prepared with delicacy and appreciation of the ingredients but with a real touch of magic
Review 9:Breakfast would be better if: 1. selection of breads available on buffet 2. jams etc craft made, served in bowls, not tiny synthetic pots
Review 10:Arriving late, warm welcome Great dinner in all aspects Lovely room overlooking harbour
Review 11:Exceptional room with a magnificent view down the river to the sea which we enjoyed form our private balcony. The restaurant meal was a gastronomic treat that rates as one of the best meals (from starter to desert) we have had (and we've had few). The staff were attentive without being overbearing and the whole experience was one to cherish.
Review 12:The very bad smell from the sea when the tide goes out - unbearable. Dated look of the room and the size of the room. The first room we were offered had a very strong smell of smoke - we are both non smokers. We were offered a room on the floor below but only when we said we would leave. Nearly 400 euros for the room and the evening meal - without breakfast as we couldn't wait to leave. Booked for 4 nights and stayed for 1.
Review 13:Friendly staff, good food
Review 14:Parking close to the hotel is "pot luck" during holiday season. One needs to book the restaurant prior to arrival! ( Sadly we didn't, though did find a good one a short distance away)
Review 15:Location, ambience and staff
Review 16:You pay for what you get. We paid for and got an excellent room with wonderful views. The dinner was outstanding and the wine list amazingly reasonable.
Review 17:Everything was great; it isn't cheap but you get what you pay for. I wouldn't change a thing about this hotel. The restaurant was an experience in itself; we aren't 'foodies' but we could see why it has a Michelin star; the food was amazing and the waiting staff go out of their way to explain the menu and make you feel at ease. Sit on your balcony and watch the tides change and a multitude of watery activities, and forget the rest of the world for a while.
Review 18:our room faced the street and there was no blinds or voile on the bedroom window so we had to close the curtain for any privacy after showering as there was a building occupied opposite the hotel and they could see into our room no shower cubicle
Review 19:location, décor, cleanliness and friendly staff
Review 20:Unfortunately, the wifi wasn't working properly during out stay. Also, there was a lot of noise from outside on the first and last nights of our stay (not something over which the hotel management has much control).
Review 21:The staff were very well trained and courteous. And the restaurant service was excellent. The bedroom was airy, very clean and comfortable, although very lightweight curtains meant that we woke early every morning. We enjoyed live music on the terrace one evening, which was lovely.
Review 22:The only downside was the limited hotel parking.a luxury hotel
Review 23:Excellent quality of accommodation, food and staff. We were even helped in with luggage as we had to park in the street.
Review 24:Location. Beautiful views from dining rooms.Huge modern bathroom with walk in shower, quality toiletries, towels, etc. Gorgeous breakfast with individually served fresh fruit, bread, pastries, yogurt, etc
Review 25:Very limited parking - 5 spaces. Non sea view rooms fronting onto the street are very noisy with coaches lorries and motorbikes going right past the window until the early hours. Pay the extra and have a sea room.
Review 26:Good location by the estuary. Nice bar.
Review 27:The toilet was separate from the bathroom (which some prefer) but it felt as though it had been placed in a former wardrobe - very tiny & claustrophobic. The Receptionist was also slightly 'cool' in her greetings - but generally the staff were most professional
Review 28:The hotel is located by an inlet in a quiet village - with stunning views. Dinner in the restaurant was superb & the wine list excellent. Our room view was delightful & the bed one of the most comfortable we have slept in. We hope to return
Review 29:Unpredictable WiFi, only half a dozen parking spaces and no pool. To be fair, we did know about the parking problem and the lack of pool before we booked but to have dodgy WiFi in an hotel of this standard is very strange.
Review 30:We had a pleasant, airy room with a terrace overlooking the sea. The food in the dining room, though pricey, was very good and breakfast was excellent.
Review 31:Our Room 201 reeked of tobacco smoke. We complained and they tried burning incense which helped a bit. Also curtains dirty. Not the sort of thing one expects for the high price of the room.
Review 32:Broken washbasin in shower room. No basin in the toilet. Seemed like the 'street view' clientele are there to subsidise the posher rooms
Review 33:Location
Review 34:Internet kept coming up invalid IP address and there was no one at the front desk after 10 o'clock. Plastic chairs in the room were a real eye sore.
Review 35:The location is beautiful with a great view of the rising and lowering tides. Possibly the quietest town I have ever been to.
Review 36:We were not able to book for the Friday evening meal as it was full although they did later have a cancellation but by then we had booked elsewhere
Review 37:Evening meal - wonderful food and very proficient staff
Review 38:My husband and I had a meal here about 6 years ago which we have raved about ever since. So we decided to revisit and stay over. We love everything about this hotel. It's very classy. We had the cheapest room ( but indulged with our meal!) but it was still extremely comfortable, very clean andwith posh toiletries and towels, robes and slippers and an immense bath. The meal was a gastronomic delight with fabulous service.
Review 39:Nothing
Review 40:Excellent hotel. Lovely decor and style. Good size rooms and ensuite bath or shower. Very comfortable bed too. Visited in November so restaurant closed but found an excellent restaurant a few hundred yards away. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Would return again for sure.
Review 41:Food very fancy and expensive should have simple sea food on menu Room very clinically white like a hospital!
Review 42:Position was good & nice little village plenty of restaurants around
Review 43:The smell when the tide is out, but that's what to expect by the sea!
Review 44:Location Restaurant - food, staff/service & view Convenient parking All staff very friendly and helpful
Review 45:Some minor things. The water did not drain out of the bath although this was fixed each day when the room was cleaned. I was on the street side of the hotel and there was some noise early in the morning
Review 46:The food, the location and the staff were very good
Review 47:We stayed on a Monday when the restaurant was closed both for lunch and dinner.
Review 48:Very clean room, fantastic bathroom with robes, slippers, good quality toiletries. Very nice staff. Comfortable bed. Air conditioning. Ours was a street view room but the sea view rooms would be marvellous if staying longer than one night. Good location and we managed to get parking right outside, although there was a free car park 100m away so would not have been a problem anyway.
Review 49:These are only nit picking dislikes Breakfast was a little expensive As we have a 4x4 the back end of car was sticking out near road
Review 50:Excellent Location Helpful, friendly staff Extremely well presented and clean hotel Option to reserve parking Plentiful breakfast
Review 51:The smell at low tide was very strong and unpleasant when we arrived and was present to a lesser degree throughout our 3 night stay when the tide was low. If we hadn't already had a booking we would have driven out of town.
Review 52:Comfortable hotel with great food, in pleasant small town Carteret.
Review 53:This is a great hotel and we had a most relaxing time here. From the minute we walked in the door we felt like we had arrived at a haven of peace and relaxation. The hotel is chic and plush. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable. Take the time to have a drink in the amazing bar or fine in the fine restaurant. Great value for money. Surely the best hotel in town.
Review 54:The only negative was the overwhelming smell of the creek after the sea had retreated. This must be a feature that inhabitants are used to!
Review 55:The evening meal was our highlight here and would bring us back again. A truly memorable meal in the light and airy dining room. Service was also excellent. Our bedroom was spacious with its own private deck and looked over the inlet to Carteret.
Review 56:Beautiful bedroom. Lovely location.
Review 57:everything, 3rd stay here. Food is superb and service is fantastic. short walk to lovely beaches.

Review 72:A mistake on final bill but quickly rectified when I pointed out overcharge for room

Review 86:Location of Hotel
Review 87:No wifi
Review 88:We liked it all, beautifully designed room with glass walls, the view from the bath(!) the food, the friendly service.

Review 103:Absence of leisure centre
Review 104:Welcome. Quality of restaurant and menus. Breakfast
Review 105:Fabulous beds , beautiful bathrooms, great location in centre of Carteret and the cocktails aren't bad either !
Review 106:This was our third stay at this hotel and it does not falter. All I can say is try it
Review 107:Sadly we stayed on a Monday when the restaurant was closed. I do wish good restaurants could offer 7/7 service. Otherwise no criticisms
Review 108:what's not to like !
Review 109:sea views room size bathroom
Review 110:Bath with shower, rather than en suite shower booked. Fiddly awkward shower control, soft bed (too soft for my back). No cooked food option at breakfast (continental was expensive), pork main course was half cooked at dinner, expensive hotel meals compared with very good restaurants nearby .
Review 111:Excellent modern decor bedroom, spotlessly clean, serviced daily. Lift available. Good location and views. Adequate free street parking nearby. Good wi-fi included.
Review 112:Having to leave.
Review 113:The location, quality of the accommodation and the room. Superb food and very helpful staff. A fabulous hotel for a bit of indulgence!
Review 114:It wasn't where I expected! I thought this hotel was in Cherbourg, therefore had to spend €170 on taxis! I think I left my mobile charger and adaptor in the room, but this could not be checked when I called back, as the cleaning lady could not be contacted.
Review 115:Pleasant hotel and staff.
Review 116:Breakfast too expensive given there were no hot breakfast items. We stayed on a Monday and though we didn't mind the restaurant being closed , thought it was a little strange that even the hotel bar was closed. It made the hotel seem a bit ghost- like.
Review 117:A wonderful stay. Just about Everything spot on. Fantastic room and facilities, lovely restaurant and standards all very high. Loved the views of the estuary from our room.
