Reviews for Le Relais Du Roy
Review 1:Entering the general area is not well signed and the boom gate requires a code from reception. Code also costs 4€ for each entry.
Review 2:Great location and excellent Resturant.
Review 3:Restaurants close early hence keep some food and water with you for emergency. The Autocar (Free Shuttle) from Gare de Rennes to Mont St. Michel is outside the Train Station Building to the right from the main Bus Terminus Building (10 minutes walk). It stops at Mont St. Michel Terminus Station which is about 1 mile from the main Mont St. Michel island (for which there is another free shuttle every 12 minutes). Wished they had kept a bottle of water in each room as a welcome gesture for the guests instead of toffees. Check out at 11 AM !
Review 4:Good location of the hotel near the free Shuttle Bus stop to Mont St. Michel, restaurants and other hotels, stores etc. Behind the hotel there is a small river with barrage and footpath to Mont. St. Michel. Small room but cozy with tea/coffee making facilities. Since our room was on the first floor we took the staircase.
Review 5:Internet not very good.
Review 6:Proximity to the Mont was excellent, with the regular free shuttle bus, or an easy, if long, walk to the island. Could see the Mont from my balcony. Food in the restaurant was excellent. Roaring fire a lovely touch in the cold weather.
Review 7:The hotel is older, so the floor squeaked and there is no elevator. The room could use a refrigerator. Side note about the buses: there is a paid bus which will take you from the Pontorson train station to a stop in front of the Mercur Hotel which is just before the Relais (the bus may not stop if you don't tell him to). This bus is different from the free shuttle (called Le Passeur) which will take you to the Mont.
Review 8:A good convenient location to walk the mile to Mont St. Michel or take the shuttle bus. There are several restaurants nearby and a good little bakery and grocery across the street. Our room was clean and comfortable. The rear entrance to the hotel opens directly onto the flood control dam and a full view of the Mont.
Review 9:There was a lot of noise in the evenings from 8pm to 10pm - we called reception who came to assist but could not explain it - we think it may have been the kitchen.
Review 10:Located on the main road and close to the shuttle bus. We had a balcony with a great view of the canal and the monastery in the distance. Good value for money.
Review 11:* we had to wait quite long before our order was taken at dinner, but there were a lot of guests and as soon as our order had been taken everything went very smoothly
Review 12:* very friendly hotel staff * everyting was very clean and tidy * very nice bathroom (the one with the blue tiles in the pictures) * good restaurant (agneau pré salé is a great dish!) * good quality for a reasonable price
Review 13:The room was very hot and seemed airless, we were unable to locate any controls to alleviate this issue. This was the only thing that detracted from our stay. There was no small window to open, only a door onto a small balcony.
Review 14:The staff were very helpful and friendly; the restaurant menu was wide ranging and wonderfully delicious.
Review 15:The room was very warm and we had to sleep with the window open and we both got bitten by bugs which was a bit uncomfortable the next day, we both woke many times during the night from the heat. We had difficulty accessing the WiFi from a laptop and via phone, this could have been an easier process.
Review 16:Room was good size and bathroom was spacious and good shower pressure, adequate toiletries supplied. Tea and coffee making facilities were welcome.
Review 17:The room was really hot. There are bugs outside the room due to proximity to a dam so you can't open the window. Parking was a little tricky, the GPS took me to the weong entrance. Make sure to email the hotel a day before check in to request access code.
Review 18:Excellent location for visitors to Mont Saint Michel. The shuttle bus stop is literally outside the hotel. Room is comfortable and clean. There is a balcony overlooking the Mont Saint Michel. I enjoyed a bath after the end of a long day. Dinner at the hotel's restaurant was amazing (highly recommended).
Review 19:Lack of lift' made it difficult with the luggage
Review 20:The position of the hotel was perfect for visiting Mont St Michel. Good service and pleasant atmosphere. Rooms very clean and comfortable.
Review 21:Good shower, comfortable beds, but had to ask for heating to be turned off as it was very hot in our room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast good value for 11euros.
Review 22:WiFi connetion was not very consistent.
Review 23:Excellent location. My room may have been upgraded to the one with Mont Sant Michel view balcony. I would recommend not to stay in the island as it does not have a view, rather stay in the area.
Review 24:Had to pay for parking for what appeared to be a public car park
Review 25:It was close to the mint and we had a view from the room. The dining room looked nice too.
Review 26:really nothing
Review 27:Everything was superb. Room was super clean and comfortable. Stuff was friendly. Dinner in hotel's restorant was delicious. Would like to stay at least one night longer , liked that place a lot
Review 28:Our 2-room suite had a weird step up and step down between the second bedroom and the bathroom that was a definite tripping hazard -- but our friends in a separate queen room had no encumbrance. I still recommend highly -- I put signs on the steps to remind me.
Review 29:The restaurant offered one of our favorite dinners in France. Service was excellent and generous with translations and tastings. Beds were comfortable and rooms were quiet. Great location, less than a block to shuttle bus to Mont Saint Michel. Tasty breakfast included.
Review 30:There were only 2 sachets of coffee, 2 sachets of sugar, 2 teabags and 2 small milks in the room. I would have expected a few more supplies
Review 31:Perfect location to visit Mont St Michel and a free shuttle bus.
Review 32:Wifi was not brilliant-much like the rest of France
Review 33:Fantastic location, one of the closest you can get to Le Mont St Michel. Clean hotel with friendly staff and modern facilities.
Review 34:Small room. To many noise, i couldn't sleep. To many hot inside the room, no air-conditioning that i was aware of. Room to small. Overall exp. not good.
Review 35:The location.
Review 36:Fairly small room without air conditioning. It was a hot day, consequently quit a hot in the room over night. As next to the river not to advise to keep window open - moscotis.
Review 37:Very close to the Mont Saint-Michel. We went to the abbey once after dinner at midnight by foot and returned by shuttle (free of charge) which even so late goes very frequently. Once next day. I'd recommend to go early to see the cathedral. We came at 10 and enjoyed very smooth and less crowed walk through the village and cathedral. It's also nice to observe the coming high tide from the cathedral's garden. Leaving at 11:30 we saw already a long queue for entering the thicket office and crowd streets in the village. Good hotel for one or two nights stay. Don't forget to ask for code to entering the area as described on booking.com
Review 38:Difficult to get a pin code of parking gate. When I arrived at Mont Saint Michel parking gate, didn't matched at hotel Sending email pin number and Phone was connected only ARS. So, I run to the "Le Relais Du Roy Hotel".
Review 39:Excellent view of Mont Saint Michel(Good Location) Courteous Staff Comfortable room
Review 40:A minor point. Our rooms are at the lowest level, which were close to the pedestrian. Personally felt unsecured as the room had no air-conditioning so we had to open the window to keep the room cool. But no complaints to the hotel as we were given this hotel at the last minute when we were turned down by the original hotel we reserved.
Review 41:Grateful for the hotel gave us 2 rooms when the original hotel we booked turned us down on the day we arrived. The lady at the reception was very nice and helpful in getting access code for us, let me to use the hotel's phone and make IDD calls to the cell phone of my husband who was waiting in the car at the gate far away from the hotel or I had to walk about 10 minutes to the gate from the hotel. The hotel is closed to Mont Saint Michel. We were able to view it through one of the rooms. Though the rooms were not luxurious, they were neat and clean and had everything we needed. My husband was impressed by being able to gaze stars in the clear night through the window in our room.
Review 42:The car park was very small and tight! Air-con would be much appreciated.
Review 43:The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The bathroom was large, and had plenty of room for 2 people, with space for wash bags, shampoo, etc. We hope to return!
Review 44:No elevator. Had to stay in two separate rooms for a family of four. Breakfast was ok, typical European breakfast, not worth the price of 11€ for adults and 5.50€ for kids per day. one of our rooms smelled moldy like you walked into a cellar. Search Internet for other hotels in the area as the hotel next door which looked just as good was 100€ cheaper and included breakfast, but wasn't listed in booking.com.
Review 45:Within the Le Mont St Michel "gated area" walking distance to island or take one of the very regular but usually packed shuttle buses. Very close to the dam overlook. Parking in gated area will cost 4€ but worth it, lots of parking across the street if you don't get one of the 6-7 spots out front of the hotel. Stayed 2 nights and made it easy to get up early to take sunrise pics of the mont.
Review 46:You need to call ahead to get the gate code to access the hotel road. We ended up in the shuttle parking lot and then I called the hotel for directions, when they gave me the code.
Review 47:The location - right on the road out to Mt St Michel. We walked to the island, but the shuttle stop was right there for those who prefer to ride. The receptionist let us know we could buy tickets for the abbey from her, which saved us waiting in line.
Review 48:It is very close to Mont St. Michelle. Our family room was good sized for Europe. It wasn't fancy but comfortable with helpful staff. Especially the gentleman behind the desk at night.
Review 49:This is very close to Mont Saint-Michel with wonderful views along the river from some rooms or from immediately outside the hotel. Very comfortable room with good comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. Staff were helpful and pleasant
Review 50:Hotels next to great tourist attractions are almost always bad, for obvious reasons, and this one is no exception. See Mont St Michel, then drive an hour to some much better hotel for the same money in Bayeux or Cancale.
Review 51:Nothing except great location.
Review 52:The bedroom with the twin beds was hot; they did give us a fan to share. There was either the heavy comforter or nothing; a light cover would have been much better. Needed information about the road barrier at entrance and how to get in--very confusing.
Review 53:Dinner and breakfast were good. We "shared" a room with another couple as it was all available when we booked. Better than we hoped with separate bedrooms and a shared bath.
Review 54:Very close to shuttle to the Mont. Clean, comfortable, good size room. Coffee machine in the room. Front desk very helpful with transportation to the train station.
Review 55:Road construction doesn't let you get close to the hotel to load/unload luggage Parking is across the road on a side street Rooms are small and strangely shaped WiFi is a joke
Review 56:You can't leave closer to Mont-Saint-Michel than in this hotel Clean rooms Comfortable beds
Review 57:It could be easier to get the parking code. I tried twice through booking.com with no success. Getting there I had to phone the hotel from the tourist information office to ask for the code.
Review 58:Location, cleaness, breakfast.
Review 59:Little confusing on the bus schedule to get to and from the train station in Pontersson.
Review 60:The location is perfect. As close as you can get to the island without being on the island. Gives you a beautiful view of the bay and the island. Close to restaurants and stores. The hotel restaurant is wonderful - the best in the area.
Review 61:Current construction made parking and access very difficult. Resembles a Holiday Inn, so not very charming.
Review 62:The location is great and the restaurant is excellent.
Review 63:Phoning to get the entry code to enter the hotel zone was confusing. We tried from our cell phone but just got a French recording. I buzzed the info button at the gate and the attendant eventually let us in. I think I was supposed to punch in their phone number from the panel at the gate but I'm still not sure.
Review 64:This is a nice budget hotel with a great location, comfortable beds and great 'North American' style pillows. The staff was great. They stored our picnic food in their fridge overnight. The buffet breakfast was varied and good value.
Review 65:There is no elevator. Wifi is a little bit slow.
Review 66:Hotel is very close to the Bus Stop bound for Mont Saint Michel/Bus station. The staff is very kind and helpful.
Review 67:The descriptive so give the impression that Mont St Michel is visible from your room balcony. First, to use the word balcony is a joke- I'd estimate the concrete pad to be 28 x 36". The only way you can see the Mont from this pad is if you lean WAY over the railings and crane your head right. Plus the room had a bad odor.
Review 68:The location is fabulous. Easy access to shuttles or walk to Mont St Michel.
Review 69:The disturbance of the alterations to the aproach to Mont St Michel and the fact that a payment of 4 euros to get to the hotel is quite offputting. but of course this is not the fault of the hotel.
Review 70:Good food and excellent staff
Review 71:No problems It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room
Review 72:The location is perfect for a visit to Mont St Michel. Very close to the free shuttle bus but also easy walking distance. The room was large for a French hotel and very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality as its a reasonably priced hotel very close to a major tourist destination.
Review 73:Just make sure you have the gate access code if you're driving a car in and don't park it in the public parking lot.
Review 74:Excellent location for visiting the Mont and getting to see it throughout the stages of tides and daylight. Nice walk from the hotel to the entrance or right near a bus stop.
Review 75:WIFI connection which was not stable, need to reconnect all the time, and some times it didn't work
Review 76:The location, it's closed to the barrage and the shuttle bus stop going to mont st. michel The restaurant serves very good food
Review 77:The breakfast is not worth the money. The choices had been pretty limited and not worth the 11€ per person. Furthermore has the Hotel no elevator which makes life for people with problems in walking not really easy! Way to many stairs.
Review 78:Mont Saint Michel is worth the trip! The Hotel is ok, silent and well positioned. The restaurant in the evening is very good in terms of quality. The Service had been friendly and fast.
Review 79:Wifi was slow, but not a big deal since we were on holiday! Also, if you arrive by car - get the code in advance. We didn't have a problem but we saw others struggle.
Review 80:Staff, location, view from room
Review 81:No elevator at all - I was unfortunately ill during my stay and it was only but a little bit hard to me to go up/down stairs.
Review 82:Room - wide & tidy, and good quality facilities. Staff - quite friendly and smart hospitality.
Review 83:Might want to add a suggestion page to the book on the counter for those traveling by train how to leave and at what time, and suggest alternate route of the express bus to Rennes.
Review 84:Great location, super staff, nice room. We had to ask the staff for help several times about directions and events and the woman was super helpful and friendly.
Review 85:We couldn't find the hotel and access was through a barrier which needed a code, we were not informed of this and spent an hour trying to get to our hotel and after a six hour drive we were very upset and stressed
Review 86:The pillows and bed were so comfortable, divine
Review 87:We asked for a double bed, and got 2 single beds . . . and there were no rooms with double beds.
Review 88:Great hotel with view of the Mont from our room balcony. Easy 20 minute walk to the Mont or free shuttle bus at the front door. Dinner in the dining room was outstanding.
Review 89:We booked to have a view of mont st.michel, if you stood on the balcony and twisted round to see around the corner you could see it, but certainly not what was expected, very dispointed. Room was exceedingly small, bathroom you had to be very nimble to turn water on and put plug in, not ideal. Would not go back.
Review 90:No lift. Lots of stairs. Rooms with number 14 on them are tiny-- long narrow trapezoids. Shower had no place to put soap or shampoo. Rug needed cleaning.
Review 91:Very close to Mont St Michel. Food is good, but pricey. There is a small market across the street. Bathroom is modern.
Review 92:Wi-Fi was a bit spotty, no elevator, tight parking
Review 93:Wonderful location, very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed, coffee and water heater right in room, large bathroom and complimentary caramels upon arrival
Review 94:The room was small/tight, but for one night it was fine. Thebreakfast was just ok. The mosquitos on Le Mont and on the walk back tothe hotel were annoying (no fault of the hotel).
Review 95:The location was convenient and the parking worked very well. We choseto walk to Le Mont (which was easy), but the free shuttle stopped rightoutside the hotel. The dam behind the hotel was fascinating. We got goodvalue for our Euro and it really isn't worth the extra money to stayon the island.
Review 96:Restaurant service very slow. Not enough people to handle the dinner service. Seafood was good, but the rest of the meal was just average. Expensive for what you get. Wifi super slow and always loosing connection
Review 97:location, room size, comfortable bed.
Review 98:Nothing real. Just a little bit expensive
Review 99:The location is good. Instead of staying on the mountain I recommend to stay off the mountain, since it is not so convenient to go to a hotel on the mountain.
Review 100:There are many Japanese group tourists, so it's better to have dinner and breakfast in a different time with the group.
Review 101:I could see the mont st Michel island from the balcony in my room!!
Review 102:No AC. Too many mosquitos. Can't leave the balcony door open at night. Reception staff seemed disinterested in our needs
Review 103:Close the Mont Saint Michel.
Review 104:There wasn’t much choice for the breakfast buffet and we couldn’t even get a hard-boiled egg out of the egg cooker and gave up after 3 cracked eggs.
Review 105:The hotel is in an ideal location from where you can see Le Mont Saint Michel and the bus stop for le Mont is just across the road. Our room was better than we expected, nice, clean and quiet with a comfortable bed.
Review 106:Internet did not work and staff was incapable to help. In fact they know it often does not work anyway. Rather basic hotel. Bathroom was clean but with hair in hidden corners.
Review 107:Very good base for visiting Mont Saint Michelle. Good price for the area. With in-room tea and coffee. Close to a supermarket/cafe. Quiet at night.
Review 108:Had to phone to get access code to enter area to park by hotel. Had to pay for this access to enter and park by hotel.
Review 109:Good stay near to the causeway. Clean, friendly and comfortable.
Review 110:It is crazy trying to get a taxi from the rail station to this hotel. I don't know why this is, because the Mont is apparently the second top tourist site in France. We are not fluent in French. There is just one lonely sign at the train station that has some phone numbers for the taxi. I asked the lady at the train station if she would speak to the taxi person for me, which she nicely did. Howtever, after waiting for 30 minutes in the rain, only one small taxi came for our group of eight. Empty taxis that came and went would not stop for us, I don't know why. Someone told us it was because of money, but I don't know how that makes sense. Anyhow, this taxi took four of us to the hotel. It's pretty far, maybe 20 minutes. There is a gate before he can get to the hotel where he has to have a code. He patiently try to get this code from our hotel, and after six tries was successful. Of course he was patient because the meter was running. When he dropped us off, he try to convince me to let the meter keep running so that after he picked up the other four in our group we could pay. Of course I was not going to go for that. I paid him for the one trip. What was really annoying, is that when we checked out we had to pay for euros for each of the two codes that was entered for the taxi to enter. Locals told us that this is a money grab by the people that own the hotel area. I don't know. But what really irks me is that there is a public bus that runs from the train station to the hotel, or just 50 m from it at the Mercure. It's one or two euros a person, you don't need to pay any code, and it's way more reliable than the taxis. I think that that should be on the hotel website. I'm a little bit ticked off at the train station lady, because we wanted to get on that bus when we were coming from the train station but she told us not to that we had to take a taxi. Maybe she is married to the taxi driver.Anyhow, location is everything.
Review 111:Fantastic location! When you exit the hotel, either turn right or left and walk for two minutes to get to the shuttle stop. This is the free shuttle that runs to the Mont every five or 10 minutes. It's awesome. If you turn left, this is the dam where there is a viewing platform and some description of why the damn is there and how it is keeping the Mont from becoming completely land locked. Not a bad way to spend 10 minutes. But you absolutely have to go to the Mont to experience high and low tide. Another reviewer I had said that it's great to take photos from here, but I would disagree. If you go to hours before high tide is supposed to peak, view it from the top near the Abbey. There are some viewpoints when you walk out from the main gates of the Abbey that you can look out and see miles and miles of just wet sand. It's a bit alarming to see some people walking out there, because they seem very far from any high points of land. Then when the tide comes in over the next two hours, make sure that you leave the Mont, and just at the very base, before you walk into where all the shops are, you can turn to the right, when you're facing the Mont, and walk along the base of the walls. If you are there about an hour before high tide, you will be walking maybe 100 feet from the walls on Beachy sand. It's crazy because there is a guard that will kick you out about a half hour later as the water is coming closer and closer to the walls, because the water will climb right up the walls. I think it's the best sense to see how all of this dryland has become flooded with water. It doesn't really come in like "galloping horses", but still it's absolutely amazing.Make sure that you do your research for when to be here if this is a important highlight of your trip. And honestly it should be if you are coming to France. It is one of the most incredible things I've seen traveling six continents.
Review 112:Be ready to pay for the food. Tasty but spendy.
Review 113:Staff very friendly and helpful for budget minded travellers. Be sure to arrange for the key code to enter La Caserne.
Review 114:Breakfast was 14 euros per person When you book make sure you factorthis in. The b & b rate would have a been less. Also, getting to the hotel is difficult. Get the access code to the hotel before you arrive.
Review 115:Great Location, nice hotel
Review 116:Loved to be able to walk outside and see Mont St. Michele from the room, albeit, leaning over the balcony a bit. Great location. Thrilled we stayed there. Easy shuttle service or can walk to Mont St. Michele. Great stay. Would do it again. Loved seeing Mont St. Michele at night-both from afar and exploring it at night.
Review 117:There is no air conditioning in the rooms. Also, there is no fridge. No elevator in the hotel.
Review 118:Very pleasant and helpful staff. The hotel is one of the closest to Mont St. Michel. The restaurant was excellent – very good and responsible staff and incredibly tasty meal.
Review 119:The staff forgot to send us the access code for the private road that leads to the hotel
Review 120:The room was very big and with a lot of facilities; the hotel was near a panoramic point. The restaurant was very charming and relatively cheap for the very good quality of the dishes.
Review 121:no air conditioner, too noisy to sleep when open the window.
Review 122:the location is great, very near to the shuttle bus station. the room is clean. food in the restaurant is very delicious.
Review 123:No elevator was a pain especially since our room was on the top floor. No air-conditioning made the room stuffy and uncomfortably warm. Only one small window did not allow for much ventilation.
Review 124:Excellent location. Very helpful staff.
Review 125:Acess code was not e-mailed day before arrival it was not done until day of arrival, had no access to e-mail on day of arrival, unable to contact hotel by phone so had to park in pay car park which cost us 6 euro and 20cent and walk to hotel to get access code for barrier. Limited parking in front of hotel so had to park over at the supermarket, however when booking car park space at hotel it is actually for the barrier to gain access into the town not to park at the hotel. Breakfast is a bit expensive 10euro 50 cent per person for buffet breakfast with not a great choice on offer.
Review 126:Location is excellent. Rooms are clean and bathroom is spacious. Staff speak good English and are friendly and helpful.
Review 127:Bed was not comfortable (problem in most hotels in Europe). Lay out of bathroom was not convenient. Toilet was by itself, separate from the shower and sink and did not have a small sink to wash hands.
Review 128:Location, access to free bus to Mont St Michel and the restaurant. We also had free parking. The room was big enough to accommodate 2 teens and their grandparents.
Review 129:We came from Spain where they had dinner at 10pm. So we were very surprised when the restau manager told us at 9pm that it was closing for dinner and nothing's left! Had to have cold sandwiches. :(, but the overal experience was positive.
Review 130:We liked the proximity of the hotel to the Mt. St. Michel. The room was clean and cosy. We were there on a full moon day when the tides were up and the view was magnificent!
Review 131:We traveled with 2 adult children. The room had 3 separate sleeping areas with space for 6. The location was great with several restaurants and a market nearby. It is situated between 2 bus stops to the abbey as well as backing up to the walkway that leads to the abbey (recommend using the bus). The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was a very nice buffet. If you have a vehicle, you do not have to park in the main parking lots for the abbey as the hotel has free parking for their guests.
Review 132:Nothing especially.
Review 133:Good location. Room clean, comfortable and reasonable size for France. The star of our stay was the great 3 course evening meal we had in the hotel restaurant. well done!
Review 134:Wifi was very slow. The rate didn't include breakfast. The hotel next to it (Hotel Gabriel), was posting a rate €10 cheaper that includes breakfast.
Review 135:Proximity to Mont St Michel. I asked for a room with a view of Mont St Michel and got it.
Review 136:- Seperated toilet without sink, can't wash your hands if someone is using the bathroom (Family Room) - Can't access wifi - The interior walls are thin. Noise from water in pipes to heels clicking down the hall passed easily through them to interfere with sleep.
Review 137:- Free shuttle bus to Le Mont Sant Michel, but here is a small area and able to access whole area by foot. - Supermarket and souvenir store are 2 minutes walk. - Our train was suspended as the workers went on strike, the receptionist assist to translate the french email notice and try to find another way back to Paris.
Review 138:Room seemed a bit dated.
Review 139:Location was excellent for visiting Le Mont St Michel; near the end of the causeway right next to the shuttles to the island. Also is within an area of hotels that is accessible only by key code (sent in advance), which is nice for keeping things quiet. Staff was very friendly.
Review 140:Toilet smells bad.
Review 141:Location. The restaurant of the hotel is excellent!!!!!!! Beds are comfortables. The bathroom is extremely big.
Review 142:Wifi a little bit unstable.
Review 143:Very comfortable beds, perfect location for visiting the Mont-Saint-Michel, friendly staff, good value for money.
