Reviews for Hôtel De Paris

Review 1:Building work going on at the hotel, especially banging and sawing early on Sunday morning - did not appreciate that!

Review 2:location, central in town, close to all shops, bars and a short walk from nearby Carteret.

Review 3:This is an excellent basic French hotel that is good value for money. The owner is always very helpful. The restaurant is very good and reasonable. We return each year for an overnight stay and to the restaurant several times during our holiday. Wouldn't go anywhere else....the hotel has a nice atmosphere and character.

Review 4:Water was cold when we came back at night, but this was put right immediately by the manager.

Review 5:Lovely view from our room towards the Normandy countryside.

Review 6:Quadruple family room just what we needed- kids in small separate room in twin beds so easier to get them off to sleep. Garden out the back for the kids to run about in and let off steam. Our ferry was delayed so we were much later arriving- I called to let hotel know and they were very helpful and left keys and entry code for us.

Review 7:Room smelt from drain in bathroom. No staff around to report this to. If there had been staff we would have insisted on another room. We arrived at 9.30 as boat was delayed and reception was closed. We were only able to gain access to the hotel as a couple of guests outside had a hotel card. I had to ring a number and then was given a code to get into the hotel. If the couple had not been there, access would have been difficult.

Review 8:No view from my room

Review 9:Location is ok. Easily accessible by car. Impeccably clean even if a bit dated. Bed was good. Overall I'd stay there again and would follow Amelie's recommendations.

Review 10:We would have liked to have basic tea/coffee making facilities in the room

Review 11:Very clean and good value for money. Lovely shower and lots of hot water.

Review 12:the hotel was closed on sunday and I think we were the only guests on the night we stayed. We would have liked to have gone in the bar or had a snack

Review 13:the location of hotel. the owner was helpful. Also spoke excellent English which helped us a lot.

Review 14:Plumbing a little 'noisy' at times. Door closers too strong causing doors to bang closed. Apparently being fixed shortly.

Review 15:The food and presentation is far better than the current 2 star hotel rating implies. Bar and Restaurant facilities excellent. Outside front patio and rear secluded garden ideal to enjoy a quiet drink and relax. Aurelie, the manageress very

Review 16:Small room. No view, only over roof top and drive. Bathroom and shower need a "deep clean". Mildew in shower. No mirror in bedroom. Tiny TV high up on the ceiling. Shame really as it certainly could be improved.

Review 17:Friendly reception. Central location. Food good in restaurant.

Review 18:good food and very helpful staff

Review 19:We expected to be in Barnville-Cateret....not Barnville!

Review 20:Room was comfortable. Good parking facilities.

Review 21:Not enough space to close doors in bedroom and toilet

Review 22:Wonderful dinner

Review 23:Bike shed, huge room

Review 24:Staff very helpful as i arrived off the Ferry very late. They waited for me. Thank you.

Review 25:Great service from friendly receptionist / manageress.

Review 26:Nothing

Review 27:Friendly and convenient hotel with a good restaurant for the evening meal. Good Englush spoken by the host.

Review 28:Nice staff, and good location in main street. Great location for exploring the area.

Review 29:Madame seemed indifferent - do not expect a warm welcome here. A very narrow parking entry.

Review 30:The clean, convenient bedroom and garden.

Review 31:Comfortable room and helpful staff. Breakfast was good

Review 32:Disappointed the restaurant was closed on Mondays.

Review 33:Comfortable, good value, friendly staff.

Review 34:Room was clean, very comfy bed, quiet location

Review 35:Large garden/orchard to sit out in was an added bonus. The set menu was delicious.

Review 36:Workman drilling at 08.30am. Had to look for staff most of the time. Location nothing to do if no car to travel. Breakfast should offer wider choice from just croissants bread and Jam's and boiled eggs. Tea makings things would help. Restraunt closed two days at night.

Review 37:English TV programs. Good Internet.

Review 38:Smell on landing. Price agreed with booking .com, but requested 30 euromore at departure. I didnt pay it.please inform them of this. Nobodyaround on sunday, like a ghost hotel.

Review 39:Near cherbourg, parking at rear, clean basic room.

Review 40:Not the hotel's fault, but although a convenient location, Barneville is just about the deadest and dullest place in France that I've ever stayed in.

Review 41:Friendly staff and overall good value for money. I'm not sure, but I think that the current owners are fairly recent arrivals, so much of the feedback is only slightly relevant to the way things are today. The Hotel breakfasts and restaurant food were good, though given the near total lack of alternative nearby eating places, it was a little disappointing that the restaurant was closed on our first two nights.

Review 42:The hotel has recently changed hands for better. The set dinner menu proved a good choice. The restaurant was spotless and well presented. The continental breakfast buffet served in the 'breakfast room' was plentiful. Excellent value.

Review 43:Only one thing - the manageress's attitude - rather bossy and cold, unlike everyone else we met in the region.

Review 44:We love Barneville-Carteret. The hotel is close to the bars and shops, and equidistant from the two main beaches, which are beautiful and very different. Carteret has restaurants for all budgets. There are great walks and views - dunes and cliffs, and a working port. The room was good, and the shower excellent.

Review 45:Very helpful staff. Car park. No fuss. I arrived late and staff were kind. Good restuarant with fast service. Very reasonable price. Good basic room with no fuss or silly bits. Everything that I needed. Good hot shower. Good shower room. Good value. Good bed so slept well. Easy to find. Big sign outside. Sounds silly but that is important as I arrived in the dark in pouring rain. There is nothing worse than having to drive on the wrong side of the road whilst looking for hotel. Good hotel and will stay again when next working in the town.

Review 46:Rooms are very small, but otherwise fine.

Review 47:Breakfast was good, enough choice and only 6euro per person. Diner at the restaurant in the hotel, was very good!

Review 48:The room was extremely basic with only a velux window high in the ceiling. In addition, we seem to be above a boiler (?) as there was noticeable hum and a vibration in the room. Periodically this was accompanied by the smell of cigarette smoke which was as bizarre as it was annoying. The beds were adequate but the double was not very comfortable, and the breakfast was basic but ok. If you do book, make sure you avoid Room 22!

Review 49:Not a lot, I'm afraid.

Review 50:What a great place for a stop over whilst touring Normandy. Made very welcome on arrival by the great chef, quiet room at the back of the hotel suited our needs perfectly. Restaurant was excellent value with a good adequate menu, we mixed with some locals in the bar later and were made to feel at home. A great time.

Review 51:I really can't think of any problem with this small, friendly hotel. OK then - the chilled display cabinet in the restaurant was a bit noisy. That's all!!

Review 52:All the staff were very helpful, they warned us of Saturday market in front of the hotel, and found us somewhere to park so we would not be blocked in. Dinner, when we arrived from Cherbourg, was welcome and cheap, and breakfast was included in the room price (booking.com had showed a EUR6 p.p. supplement!). Our annexe family room was large and semi-divided, not falling over one another, and quiet. And the Saturday street market itself was very colourful, we could easily have spent half our holiday money there! We only stayed 1 night en route for Brittany, but B-C looks like a nice destination in itself.

Review 53:Small city with not many restaurants or sights.

Review 54:Nice and clean rooms. Going to the beach is just a 3 minutes car drive. Nice beach to visit. Dinner was good as well and not expensive. Great place to stay overnight or just for a few days. When staying in this hotel a 40 minutes car drive to "Le Nez de Jobourg" is a must-see. It is impressive!!

Review 55:A small hotel in the middle of Barneville no frills but functional and clean. The staff were helpful but spoke only a smattering of English so a basic knowledge of conversational french is helpful.

Review 56:The price I was charged on leaving was slightly higher than what I'd been quoted by booking.com. One of our party had to move rooms in the middle of the night because there was an issue with very noisy plumbing, but the staff were helpful.

Review 57:I was part of a cycling trip and they allowed us to keep our bikes in our rooms. Staff were very helpful and flexible and clearly used to dealing with cyclists. (We were one of several groups of cyclists staying there.) Huge, cyclist-friendly breakfast buffet!

Review 58:Brilliant and friendly reception on arrival with the offer to keep thekitchen open as we arrived late. Only using the hotel as a stop off butgreat location really clean, helpful and friendly staff with great localinformation. Breakfast and lunch excellent and reasonably priced,we'll be back!

Review 59:Hanging provision in room not enough, should consider what they can do to improve this.

Review 60:Friendly staff giving good service. Excelent breakfast, not overpriced, a deal breaker. Our room was adequatly decorated.TV system was ok.

Review 61:some difficulties over the rooms. several of the rooms we were given were doubles when we asked for twins and so there was a fair bit of change needed. No late bar for residents which was disappointing.

Review 62:comfortable beds and good views out of the back of the hotel. interesting ramshackle hotel on lots of different levels.

Review 63:I was hoping for a better room service. The 3 days I stayed there, myroom did not get clean once.

Review 64:I enjoy staying there, because it was so peaceful. Thebar/restaurant was great, awesome food. And of course the free wifi.I had great view from my room which also top it all of

Review 65:Their Honesty, When I mislaid my new mobile phone in the bedroom, Whichmy son had just given me for my Birthday, and letting me know that theyhad found it. So as I could return and collect it. A very friendly HotelDavid et Joyce Cox:

Review 66:Great value, nice boutique feel to the place, you can see that the ownerfulfilled a personal dream when he opened his hotel. Owner educated meon French wines and dazzled me with some amazing mind tricks! In all awonderful and mysterious accidental discovery. I randomly picked thisplace as a place to stay near my car ferry port, and which suited mybudget. I found a jewel!

Review 67:Locks on the rooms were difficult to open with the key.

Review 68:Good location as a stopover between Saint Malo and Northern Normandy We had a 60 hour power cut covering much of Normandy while we were at the hotel and Dennis did everything he could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible

Review 69:Poor WiFi

Review 70:Garden, quiet rooms, nice breakfast

Review 71:could not fault any of it

Review 72:food exelent service exelent room clean and comfy will book again

Review 73:Friendly staff and excellent food.

Review 74:Nothing.

Review 75:Very helpful owner, room clean and comfortable. Ideally situated and safe parking. Would stop again.

Review 76:Bar closed very early on second night but it was the middle of November!

Review 77:Clean hotel, friendly staff, nice restaurant

Review 78:Room a bit basic.

Review 79:The food was outstanding.

Review 80:View from room.

Review 83:Painter using ladder whilst in room.

Review 84:Good view from window over rural hills. Nice garden. Enjoyable meal in restaurant.

Review 85:Every thing good place to stay very nice food at good value.

Review 86:The friendly staff and comfortable accomodation

Review 87:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 88:Note the town is shut on a sunday night..Carteret is open though. ...

Review 89:Staff were very helpful. Rooms not huge but adequate. ..no view from our room.

Review 90:Slow restaurant service, no maid service over three days

Review 91:Friendly Staff , location and local atmosphere

Review 92:Breakfast seemed a little confusing

Review 93:room 33 and the situation also being able to get English T.V.

Review 94:Excellent value, very good evening meal and breakfast, really lovely staff, good location not far from Cherbourg when you arrive on boat at 5 pm.
