Reviews for Maison Ailleurs
Review 1:Nothing-- it was perfect!
Review 2:Valerie, one of the owners/innkeepers was extremely gracious, helpful and accommodating. The property/suites are gorgeous, delightfully appointed and comfortable. The property dates back to the 1300s, likely earlier, but has been fully modernized for comfort. Staying there was a treat. Breakfast was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. The property has a secure courtyard for your vehicle (Valerie had to help us get our small bus in and out of the gate!), and a beautiful garden. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Chartres.
Review 3:Nothing to dislike
Review 4:Wonderful welcome. Second visit this year to this beautiful place with fabulous hostess who could not have been more charming or helpful. Fantastic breakfast with many homemade items.
Review 5:Everything but especially the attention to detail; little marshmallows on the mantle, beautiful toilettries, an exquisite breakfast and the truly lovely host Valerie. The building itself, the garden and the room was fabulous, we didn't want to leave.
Review 6:Valerie is the perfect host and her heritage rooms are charming and meticulous. The location is perfect and the garden is a secret delight in the city centre. And if all this isn't enough, then there's breakfast!
Review 7:Charming hostess made us feel most welcome. Close to the cathedral. Secure private parking. Large elegantly decorated room with comfortable bed, table/chairs, chaise longue, well equipped kitchenette.
Review 8:One of the best accommodations I've stayed in. Chartres is a beautiful city and Valérie is a wonderful host. The room was stunning and the facilities were great. The little extra touches of L'Occitane in the bathroom and array of teas and coffee made us understand why everyone thinks so highly of Valérie and her home. Breakfast was gorgeous and Valérie catered for us gluten free which was wonderful. An email after our stay to thank us for staying and checking we had enjoyed our holiday and were safely home was a lovely touch. I could find no faults at all with our experience here, if you're ever in Chartres I don't see why you would ever stay anywhere else!
Review 9:Nothing!
Review 10:Everything. Very thoughtful hosts who struck the right balance between being attentive and letting us enjoy the suite and our time in Chartres.
Review 11:Everything was great!
Review 12:Tasteful, plush suite. Very friendly reception and close to the cathedral. Breakfast was great, served in our suite!Highly recommended!
Review 13:Valerie and her husband were just fantastic hosts...we felt very welcome and that they really wanted to offer us a fantastic stay. The breakfast was particularly delicious and beautifully presented. We stayed in the apartment that slept 4 (main bedroom plus sofa bed in lounge); it was all extremely spacious and comfortable. And the free parking right in front took any stress out of arrival.
Review 14:The property was stunningly beautiful. The location was central to the town yet peaceful. The breakfast was delicious and impeccably presented. The host did all she can to make our stay restful and enjoyable.
Review 15:Friendly welcome, very comfortable room. Excellent location near to cathedral. Lovely breakfast served in the garden. Valerie and her staff were helpful and ver pleasant.
Review 16:This is an amazing place to stay. From the moment you enter the property you are constantly wowed with attention to detail and unparalleled hospitality. If you are anywhere close to Chartres you need to stay at Maison Ailleurs. Valerie was an incredible hostess and made sure we were taken care of the entire duration of our stay. We arrived later in the evening to Chartres, so she accommodated us with a later check-in. She also made sure we knew of the light show that was taking place at the cathedral that evening, which was incredible. We are a family of 5 and stayed in the Charles V room. This room had a separate bedroom, living room with sofa bed, dining area, and kitchen. A rollaway bed was placed adjacent to the dining area for one of our kids. Although we hardly used it, the kitchen was fully equipped for preparing meals. There was also Nespresso coffee and assorted specialty teas. On the second floor, we had views above the magnificent property gardens on one side and the vehicular courtyard on the other. For breakfast you can choose to either be served in your room or in the gardens. We stayed here for only one night on a stopover to the Loire Valley, but wished we had planned for a longer time at Maison Ailleurs. This is such a fabulous place with a friendly and attentive staff. We can’t wait until we have the opportunity to return.
Review 17:We nearly had to eat breakfast indoors as there was a brief moment of rain!
Review 18:The hosts were very kind and considerate. The room was well equipped, spacious and very quiet. The short walk to the centre of Chartres was great!
Review 19:Nothing!!
Review 20:Great Hostess Great location near Cathedral Private parking on site Wonderful breakfast Beautiful interiors Fantastic light show at cathedral at night!!!
Review 21:I only booked for two nights. Really, it was the best.
Review 22:Everything. The house is stunning. The hospitality is gentle, welcoming but un-intrusive. The breakfast in the garden was an experience in itself. I wish we had booked for longer - we could have stayed a week here quite happily. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Valerie and her family speak excellent English and are happy to share tips and information about Chartres with guests. Free parking. Tastefully decorated, just so. Did I mention the breakfast? So yummy; sitting out in the 17th century garden was priceless. The room had a small kitchen so we could have cooked for ourselves (most French hotels, you can't even make a cuppa tea). And really very reasonably priced, all considered.
Review 23:That we didn't stay longer.
Review 24:Beautifully restored fabulous building a stone's throw from the Cathedral. Glorious light bright comfortable room looking out onto the garden (which unfortunately the guests do not have access to). Comfortable room with attention to detail. Off street parking. Valerie is most welcoming and helpful. The best breakfast!
Review 25:Superb accommodation and extremely nice people to welcome you. Secure car parking and perfectly situated to see the cathedral. Wonderful breakfast brought to the room.
Review 26:Nothing. The only thing I can think of it would be nice to have somewhere to sit outside.
Review 27:Everything. Huge room, very new and clean, extremely helpful hosts, lovely breakfast. 5 minutes walk from the cathedral. Perfect stay.
Review 28:When I first saw the gates from the street, I thought - oh no what did I do now. Then, to my surprise, we were led up to a huge, high ceiling, luxurious room that looked like it belonged in a magazine. As a matter of fact, it was featured in a French magazine. Valerie prepared a fabulous breakfast and served it in our room. She was a wealth of knowledge regarding the local area and recommended we stop at Chateau Maintonon on our way to Paris. Thank you, Valerie for a wonderful stay. Hopefully we will visit again soon.
Review 29:Beautiful old house dating to 12th century, very tastefully styled. Valerie was a delightful and extrememly helpful host. Delicious homecooked breakfast served in our room. The Cathedral was beautiful and the night time lightshow that runs for several months was truly fabulous, especially around the Cathedral. The old town also seems very pleasant and we will stay longer next time and use Chartres as a base to explore the area. Thank you Valerie for a memorable stay.
Review 30:That we couldn't stay longer.
Review 31:This is a beautifully restored home that is an outstanding B&B. Valerie and Sean are incredibly nice and the room we stayed in was a 10 out of 10. The room was gigantic and the bed super comfortable the mauve to Ed bathroom was restful as well as having a great shower. The in-room breakfast was served on China dishes with cloth napkins. Anyone going to Chartres couldn't find a better place in a better location.
Review 32:Whats not to like?
Review 33:This is s visit to remember with a very relaxing welcoming atmosphere, pleasant service and a good nights sleep. A wonderful French breakfast topped this visit off to make it most memorable.
Review 34:Nothing.
Review 35:Such a beautiful B & B, one of the loveliest ones we have stayed in. Charming host, every detail was just perfect. Silk curtains, velvet chair, gorgeous garden outlook, robes, candles, 5 star breakfast, coffee machine, beautiful linen. We loved it, thanks Valerie for your wonderful place.
Review 36:Valerie is so professional. Decorations of the room, breakfast, bath amenity, in fact everything seems to reflect her scrupulous consideration for the guests.
Review 37:This is fantastic, The house is in a narrow street with gates guarding your car, The apartment is beautifully decorated with antique and 1st class contemporary furniture. Your welcome from Valerie is very friendly and helpful. Our Le Petit Bistro was booked and excellent. Our breakfast in our room was the best we have ever had in France. The light show on the Cathedral is amazing. 12 out of 10
Review 38:Struggling to think of anything we didn't like - all I think of is the lack of a corkscrew in the kitchen and I'm sure we could of borrowed one if we'd asked.
Review 39:It was a beautiful place where we felt really pampered. The breakfasts were delicious, the room beautiful and well equipped and a perfect location for exploring Chartres. Valerie went out of her way to make sure we felt welcome.
Review 40:We cannot recommend this place enough! Everything was amazing, from our huge room (we were upgraded from the room we had originally booked to the Charles V apartment without any extra charges so our little daughter could have more space), to the wonderful breakfast served in the room. Our hostess Valérie went the extra mile to make our stay incredibly special and we are grateful to her for her kindness and help. Location is perfect, quite close to the cathedral. We also liked the little kitchen with a cooker and fridge and a coffee maker with a variety of coffees.
Review 41:Huge stylish well furnished high ceilinged apartment; really comfy and well appointed with L'Occitane toiletries. Host Valerie welcoming and extremely helpful. Breakfast (served in room) delicious. Couldn't be better!
Review 42:Everything. The location couldn't be better, private parking included in room rate, absolutely beautiful and huge room (in our case it was really an apartment with living area, dining area and kitchen) with beautiful natural light and the best breakfast you could ask for. On top of it, the hostess was super friendly and helpful :)
Review 43:Lovely old building, well modernised without losing any character, well positioned to visit Chartres and the amazing cathedral. Also we had a wonderful breakfast. Secure parking was very helpful.
Review 44:This is a beautifully restored home in an historic part of Chartres. The appointments are sophisticated and elegant, and the attention to detail is extraordinary. Valerie, the owner, has a natural talent for creating a perfect environment.
Review 45:Nothing at all.
Review 46:We loved the location, the fantastic accommodation and delicious breakfast. We were welcomed again. We were booked at great restaurant nearby where we had a gourmet French meal
Review 47:This was a beautiful house in a perfect location near the old quarter with restaurants nearby. The owner Valerie was so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. I loved the fact that there was a little kitchen with a cooker and fridge and a coffee maker with a variety of coffees. I Highly recommend it.
Review 48:Unfortunately the wi-fi didn't work during our brief stay. This was a temporary hitch and the owner did her best to sort it out straightaway.
Review 49:Everything: the location is perfect, the owner is charming and very helpful. the room beautiful, calm and elegantly decorated, the breakfast outstanding... We'd love to stay longer next time.
Review 50:Our room with kitchenette was lovely: comfortable bed, table and chairs in the room for breakfast or snacks, tall windows opening onto a pretty garden. The room was delightfully quiet at night. The cathedral was 300 meters away, and the shops and restaurants were almost as close, as was the older portion of the city. The courtyard parking is a definite plus in this town, since parking is difficult. Breakfasts were a treat; they were the best we had in France in a three-month trip. The little kitchenette was great for making tea and coffee, or maybe heating some purchased "soupe de poisson" from the open-air market after having too many good meals out in the local restaurants. Valerie is a kind and accommodating hostess who will make you feel at home.
Review 51:The property was an oasis of calm elegance, with a room which offered history, every facilitiy, space and comfort and quite the most delicious breakfast served in our room by our very caring hosts.
Review 52:Not applicable.
Review 53:The location was ideal, a few steps from Chartres Cathedral, from the old town and the new. The welcome and hospitality was warm and helpful. The accommodation was more like an apartment with a spacious storage and dressing room, a large well-equipped bathroom and kitchenette as well as very comfortable bed and furnishings. The breakfasts were delicious and thoughtfully made according to my preferences.
Review 54:Not a single thing except not enough time!!!
Review 55:Absolutely amazing hosts. The home is as stunning as it is historically significant to the Cathedral. NEXT TIME this will be our hub and we will explore France from Chartres.
Review 56:There was nothing we did not like
Review 57:Beautiful building, formerly a bishop's residence, in heart of Chartres within walking distance of Chartres Cathedral and old town restaurants and shops. Guest rooms are elegant with 20 foot ceilings and clean, simple, tasteful furnishings. Baths are large and modern. White bed linens and bath towels are of highest quality. The owners/hosts were gracious, very accommodating, and provided a lovely in-room breakfast. We highly recommend a stay.
Review 58:Wow, what a beautiful place. Never stayed anywhere as lovely as this. Excellent facilities, everything you could want, need and more. And what a breakfast!! The attention to details was impeccable and the owner was an absolutely lovely lady.
Review 59:Lovely antique house, beautifully restored in the center of Chartres. The rooms was very spacious, with elegant and comfortable furniture, and provide every comfort, including a kitchenette that was a nice plus. Valerie received us very warmly and provided very useful tips for restaurants and locations to visit. The breakfast was wonderful, fresh and delicately prepared - it was even served in the room, you couldn't ask for more! We were able to park our car for free at the b&b location, a great plus in a city with limited parking space. Charming town, house and experience. I would recommend it to all my friends. Thank you, Valerie!
Review 60:Everything was perfect!
Review 61:We loved the location and Valerie was extremely helpful. The breakfast in the garden was the best we had during our 12 day trip to France. If we go back, we will stay here and take the train into Paris! Highly recommended.
Review 62:Such a beautiful room would love this in my own home. The decor was amazing- very classic. The breakfast was superb also. The location with parking was ideal. Our host Valerie was very kind, extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. Loved everything. Thank you Valerie
Review 63:I highly recommend Maison Ailleurs. Very comfortable, very gracious host, the best place I've stayed in France, and the breakfast was wonderful. You can't go wrong here.
Review 64:We chose Maison Ailleurs due to its location and previous reviews. It did not disappoint. Valerie was an excellent host. Her English is excellent and she was very accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and the rooms were comfortable...with everything you might need. walking distance to Chartres Cathedral.
Review 65:The welcome from hosts, comfort and lovely surroundings Maison Ailleurs offers. It is very close to the original town centre with lots of excellent bars and restaurants to choose from.
Review 66:Absolutely nothing!
Review 67:This B & B did everything one hopes such a place might do. Valerie upgraded the room to a suite due to a minor defect in the room we had booked. She drove us to the outskirts of town to help us return our rental car. Both she and her property are exceptional.
Review 68:Absolutely nothing.
Review 69:The host is a charming lady, friendly and exceedingly helpful. Her English is excellent. Our experience, ie Judy and I, was first class, 10 out of 10. There are not enough adjectives to heap on Maison Ailleurs. We will be back even though I'm used to driving on the left hand side of the road and wide roads it was worth it.
Review 70:Nothing
Review 71:This proved to be a delightful B&B in Chartres, close to the cathedral. The interior of the building is lovely, and it is good to have the private off road parking during your stay. The hostess is very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was served in the beautiful garden which is fully enclosed by buildings. The breakfast was a real treat.
Review 72:Great position for exploring old town & carpark a bonus. Delightful host who spoke excellent English & was extremely friendly & helpful. Our room was enormous & beautifully decorated & the attention to design detail was suberb. The breakfast was served in the room or garden & also suberb & beautifully presented . Having own kitchen & ability to make tea/coffee ( Nespresso machine & pods provided) was great. Exceptional value.
Review 73:Room was very comfortable and well appointed. Free Wifi was a big plus as was the wonderful breakfast. Owner was very helpful and an asset to her business.
Review 74:Very minor, and nothing about the guest house itself, but, as with the centre of many French towns, car access is via narrow one-way streets, with slightly tricky courtyard access for larger vehicles.
Review 75:A delightful and tranquil Chambre d'hôtes in a large old house, just behind the celebrated cathedral. The room was comfortable and the breakfast (served in the room) was copious and well prepared. High speed wifi and a kitchenette were very welcome.
Review 76:There was nothing to not like - perhaps that we couldn't stay longer!
Review 77:Hotel was in fantastic central location and has been beautifully restored with tasteful decor. A truly wonderful hotel with lovely quirky finishing touches and superb comfort. The hostess was very obliging and friendly - a luxury home from home!
Review 78:From the moment of arrival to when we left the accommodation & service was perfect. The family room we occupied is more of an apartment set right in the centre of Chartres but away from any hustle & bustle. Idyllic setting & a very sensitive & tasteful refurbishment of a fine old French property. Provided an excellent stopover which was very much part of our holiday & one we will want to experience again... if we can book in time & before the secret gets out!
Review 79:This is undoubtedly the best place in which my family and I have stayed. The interior design is outstanding and the breakfast is exquisite, a work of art in itself! Congratulations Valerie on a superb stay - we only wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you.
Review 80:The room was big like castles rooms and modern at the same time , romantic, and very comfortable. The hotel is 1 minute from the cathedral. The owner Valerie is a very kind person always giving you all the information you need. Next time in Chartres for sure we're gonna stay there.
Review 81:Beautiful old house, hidden behind wooden gates, in great location very close to cathedral. High level of attention to detail and comfort in room (which included a small kitchen area) and delightful breakfast served in room or walled garden. Very welcoming host. Would stay there again if in area.
Review 82:This place is the best. Spacious rooms that are a delight. Breakfast in the garden was superb. Nice friendly staff. Located just down the road from the cathedral, which had a light show at night that was really good. This place is great, great, great.
Review 83:Maison Ailleurs is not only worth travelling to Chartres for, it's worth going to France for. Its old world feel with modern luxury would be enough to make this a special place to stay. But combine that with the professional, personal and special attentions of the hosts, it becomes one of our most treasured holiday experiences. We travelled with three young children, one of the more stressful ways of holidaying, and not perfectly suited to spending 7 days in a one bedroom apartment. But by the end of our week here, we were relaxed and happy as well as desperate to stay longer. The helpfulness of the owners and individual attention that they lavished on each guest went far beyond our expectations. We cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough.
Review 84:The house is situated in a tiny, historic road just minutes from the cathedral. It is a very interesting building with a long history and our apartment was beautifully presented with beautiful objects, furniture and fittings. The breakfast was wonderful and we sat in the gardens to eat it. There is a courtyard to park in, and our host Veronique spoke excellent English and was warm, welcoming and vert helpful. We hope to return soon.
Review 85:Beautiful house with an excellent location. Very friendly and helpful owner. Chartres is a beautiful small city with a lot of historic buildings and of course the incredible cathedral. Private parking very handy when en route to Brittany. Excellent breakfast served in your room.
Review 86:The sun didn't shine so we didn't have breakfast in the garden. But we can't blame anyone for that. Attention to detail in all other respects was faultless!
Review 87:It was simply beautiful in every respect. Very welcoming. Arrangements were faultless.
Review 88:The rooms were beautiful. Everything was very clean. The breakfast was brought to our room and was quite substantial. The owners were so helpful and friendly.
Review 89:Our room was quite and spacious with new fixtures in the bathroom. Breakfast was terrific in the garden when weather permitted and inside our room when it didn't! Valerie is a wonderful host, very kind.
Review 90:Our host, Valerie, was charming. The beautifully decorated room was extremely comfortable and breakfast a delight. The location, complete with parking, was perfect for visiting Charyres.
Review 91:Everything was excellent
Review 92:Such a wonderful place to stay. We had the Family Suite but it was more like staying in a private apartment right in the centre of the town. A truly wonderful experience with caring hosts and homemade treats for breakfast. Highly recommended.
Review 93:It is easy to walk from the railway station to the hotel. The welcome is warm. The room is beautiful and consists of things you did not know you dreamt of. The French breakfast in the garden is delicious beyond my measure!
Review 94:Charming interior, silent and cozy room, pretty breakfast at my room. The host couple was very kind and good feeling,so I could have a beautiful time.
Review 95:There is nothing to dislike.
Review 96:Everything! Valerie is a friendly, gracious and attentive hostess. The historic house is understatedly elegant and very comfortable. Our room (or rather 'rooms' as it was more like a luxury apartment) was beautiful. Breakfast, served in the room, was delightful. A super place!
