Reviews for Gîtes en Normandie Asnelles
Review 1:The second apartment (Le Large) was a little old fashioned and musty. It was a little inconvenient to have to collect and drop off the key at a different location especially as we were staying for just one short night. The staff member at check in and check out was not very friendly.
Review 2:The location was excellent especially for exploring the WWII Normandy beaches. The apartment (les Pieds dans l'Eau )was clean, modern and bright. The
Review 3:its a bit uncomfortable that you have to take the keys from a hotel that is located at another village.
Review 4:The apartment is beautiful, very spacious and well equipped. The view is astonishing.
Review 5:Top floor apartment was a bit difficult to access and old fashioned.
Review 6:Perfect location to visit the d day beaches and Bayeux.Lovely quiet location with great views.
Review 7:There was nothing we didn't like. Well, one or two of the steps squeaked very loudly so to avoid waking up anyone, we just learned to skip it. That's part of it being old and quaint.
Review 8:This cottage is more than the photos are able to represent. It is very nicely furnished - top notch quality appliances, linens, and everything in the bathroom. We love that it is very old yet and still feels that way in spite of the upgrades. The location on the beach walk could hardly be better. Breakfast (extra $) at the main hotel was superb!
Review 9:The view was breathtaking and the gite was steps from the beach. The gite was very comfortable, with everything we needed for a delightful stay. The location was perfect for a tour of the D-Day beaches.
Review 10:We were very pleasantly surprised by this property! Just needing a place to stay for two nights we selected this really based on availability. When we walked through the door, I actually got choked up. Huge glass windows looking right out at the beach, beautifully furnished, gorgeous kitchen...I was really shocked! The place was spotless and so comfortable, and did I mention the views? My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We traveled with 2 kids, 12 and 9, who shared the pull-out sofa bed. Was just right for our family.
Review 11:The decor was a little outdated and not too comfortable if we would have spent a lot of time there.
Review 12:Being right on the Normandy beach was wonderful - great view.
Review 13:Minor things. Stairs very creaky, which was difficult with a light sleeping baby! But not a massive deal. Would have been nice to have a few kitchen essentials for future reference (salt, pepper, cooking oil etc.)
Review 14:Private cottage, well-equipped, good shower with plenty of hot water (always important!), thirty seconds walk to Gold landing beach and a 5 minute drive into Arromanches les Bains. Really well positioned for exploring the D-Day sites, Bayeaux etc. Staff very friendly when picking up and dropping off keys in Crepon. Would certainly stay again if in the area.
Review 15:Was a little confused by pictures on booking.com website; thought I was getting a different condo; but it worked out ok; just a little confused. Garbage can was pretty small for all the condos; got very full.
Review 16:Loved everything; super clean and comfortable. Great kitchen appliances. Walk-in shower was perfect. Plenty of towels. The beach was right there; so close. Very family friendly.
Review 17:The cottage is very comfortable and close enough to the D-day beaches to allow for easy touring. It is necessary to have a car, however, to get to restaurants or grocery stores. We did find the bathtub to be a bit slippery. All in all, however, we enjoyed our stay very much.
Review 18:only one small thing better explanation what to do with recyclable garbage; in the info file it was metioned that in the center of the town there are containers for glass and plastic but nothing like that exists.
Review 19:see view, breath taking :-)
Review 20:Very little, the apartment was as described and clean.
Review 21:The view from the apartment was excellent, overlooking the Mulberry harbour. With Arromanche within walking distance and the beach in front, the location was perfect.
Review 22:Make sure you do a supermarket shop before you get there as the local facilities are very basic.
Review 23:Right by the beach and a lovely walk to Arromanches. Light and very clean accommodation.
Review 24:The lounge windows could have done with a clean (but appreciate this is difficult in the winter) and we would suggest some vertical blinds or curtains on the large window situated on the passage between the lounge/dining room and the bedrooms.
Review 25:The location of the property is excellent; wonderful to sit and eat your meals with the view of the beach. The property was clean and the kitchen well equipped. Lots of wardrobe space and comfortable beds.
Review 26:For €50 euros per night (low season) this was an amazingly luxurious well appointed apartment. Beautiful countryside and beach view from back window. Warm floor heating. New quality beds and couches. Plenty of towels. Immaculately clean.
Review 27:They didn't tell us where the iron and ironing board was located (which was located in a different rental unit so we did not have an iron). They did not provide us with enough garbage bags and did not let us know where the garbage cans were located. You need to provide kitchen garbage bags so your tenants will keep the facility clean. Just a lack of informational info ( at check in none of this was explained ) otherwise the place was great and clean!
Review 28:The bed room had a double bed and a single in it even thought there was a double sofa bed in the lounge ? Fairly cramped with 3 people wardrobe far to big for the space door can't be opened fully shower head completely useless !!
Review 29:Fantastic location the views out to sea and the mulberry harbour stunning we were in the old house garden nice reasonable price
Review 30:Getting used to one bathroom
Review 31:Location and beautiful modern accommodations. The pull out coach was exquisite. The views of the ocean and the sunsets were magnificent.
Review 32:The entrance to the "drive" was very small and narrow and getting in and out was extremely difficult - for this reason only I marked down "Facilities" above. Also, it would be useful to have a bottle opener and a vegetable peeler in the kitchen
Review 33:Location; quality of kichen; garden; wifi; lovely comfy bed; path to beach; coffee maker and kitchen utensils generally
Review 34:Make sure you're OK climbing stairs before renting this appartment.
Review 35:Great location.
Review 36:excellent location and wonderful appartment
Review 37:So close to the sea and the privacy.
Review 38:Location was perfect, a good base camp to discover the area and self catering to eat in the garden overlooking the beach.
Review 39:The only negative would be the couch bed it was difficult to operate.
Review 40:The surround views and location right on the beach!
Review 41:Well positioned and well equipped idyllic French cottage. Thankyou.
Review 42:The location and friendly personal was wonderful. We liked everything.
Review 43:Comfortable accommodations in a geat location!
Review 44:The view when we arrived just made us say wow never stayed anywhere nearer the beach beautiful surroundings ideal to visit d day beaches
Review 45:Having to leave
Review 46:Close to the beach, the neighbours were excellent. Facilities were top notch
Review 47:Location, location, location! Quiet and beautiful!
Review 48:The back door did not lock. Major security concern.
Review 49:The view and closeness of the beach.
Review 50:Right on the beach, lots of room, very clean, great views of, and access to, D-Day beaches. Staff were very friendly.
Review 51:Kitchen knife needs sharpening (could not cut bread or tomatos).
Review 52:The view, the appartment, good wifi, English speaking staff
Review 53:It is to expencive
Review 54:The seaview and the space
Review 55:No windows you could leave open/no screens on the doors.
Review 56:Loved the location on the beach. Lots of room.
Review 57:Great midpoint location for Normandy WW2 sites.
Review 58:Nothing
Review 59:Everything
Review 60:The map from the main hotel where we received the keys could have been more accurately drawn. If you don't know what I mean, perhaps ask someone who doesn't know the area to draw the map. The tv transmittal was not good.
Review 61:I loved the location on the ocean. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. It was quiet as well.
Review 62:Asked for extra towels and did not get them. No dish washing liquid provided to wash dishes. Had to pick up and return the key to a different location then the rental. About 5km away.
Review 63:On the beach..whats not to like about that!
Review 64:With no staff at the apartments, all problems fall on you to rectify. It took two days of our three night stay to get a hair dryer that was supposed to be in the unit. Apparently, there is no one to bring it down from the hotel where you check in,(?) I was told to keep an eye out for the maid who would clean other apartments that day. Why would anyone want to take time from their vacation and sight seeing for an afternoon, to try and spot the maid, to get something that was supposed to be provided? The next day, after contacting through email again, the maid left a hair dryer in our unit. There should be a phone line to the hotel for better communication and at least an apology for not taking care of this simple request in a timely manner.
Review 65:Location and ocean view is wonderful. The unit is perfectly set up to enjoy the ocean from the living/dining area, patio and bedroom.
Review 66:Having to return key to hotel five miles away. A small thing!
Review 67:Position: on Gold beach at Asnelles sur Mer alongside Arromanches . Perfect for families. Well fitted with comfortable beds and sofas. V close to shops for fresh food.
Review 68:Great location right on the beach - a modern apartment with stunning views. Very well placed for visiting all the Dday beaches, monuments etc. Bed extremely comfortable! Would definitely book again.
Review 69:Big appartment with beach view. Enough space for our dog, and beach is dog friendly. Bigger Supermarket 10 minute drive away from town. Great location to see D-Day beaches and museums.
Review 70:As it is self-catering, would have appreciated some basic condiments (salt, pepper, oil) for cooking. Also, there were some issues with the shower head. Otherwise, no complaints.
Review 71:We upgraded to 'Le Large' (1st floor, older building) whilst we were there and although more pricey, the view from the main room & bedroom was sublime! It was very comfortable and spacious enough for the 2 of us.
Review 72:NOTHING
Review 73:Have stayed here before and love the location. Ideal for the D-Day beaches. Asnelles is a quiet village within reach of most amenities. Our apartment was spotless and linen was clean and fresh. Sea views where beautiful. would highly recommend GITE EN NORMANDIE
Review 74:Spacious and bright, comfortable apartments overlooking the sea. Panoramic view from the window, next to a shop to buy fresh baguettes and croissants. The only thing not able to include electric cooker, ask the user manual.
Review 75:The apartments has a great location on the breach andis a very good starting point for your tour on Normandie. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this apartments.
Review 76:The only "bathroom toiletries supplied" was soap... Really needed a laundry to wash things during our 5 night stay. 1 towel per person at the beach for 5 days is insufficient.
Review 77:Beach side location Price Close to historic areas Modern amenities Private and secure parking Friendly helpful reception staff
Review 78:No trash containers in the area so we had to keep bin bags indoors. No dishwasher.
Review 79:Amazing location - at high tide the waves were right at our doorstep. Good kitchen with facilities for families with young children. A very relaxing place.
Review 80:The house is located excellent . Right on the beach and you can see part of the ruins of the temporary harbour built in June 1944. Very clean and bed are comfortable . Three issues: there are a lot of Mosquitos and without net on the windows you can't open them and introduce fresh air to the room. The sofas as extra bed is unpleasant to sleep in. Although the panoramic view from 3 sides to the sea is amazing, lack of curtains on some of the window become annoying to our son who slept on the leaving room sofa. Overall it is amazing place to stay in order to experience the Normandy overload
Review 81:This complex was rated 9.1 when we booked. However, this is based on the Gites complex as a whole. Unfortunately, the top floor "Two Horizon' flat was very very average. Fridge was very smelly; there was one plate (!) in the cupboard, although several bowls, and a massive winter quilt on one of the hottest days of the year. The apartment is quite shabby, with well-worn and dated furniture. The bathroom is very poor, having a narrow bath and a hand held shower, with no shower screen/curtain, meaning that you can't have a stand up shower. Finally, when we pointed out some of the deficiencies of the apartment at the end of our stay, the receptionist at the hotel was "very French" - like it or lump it, comes to mind. Not recommended.
Review 82:The views of the beach at Asnelles are amazing. The apartment is right on the beach front.
Review 83:Leaving.
Review 84:Everything. Beautiful garden setting. Host very gracious. Cool weather prohibited having served breakfast outside but host welcomed us into their dining room. Walking distance to all sites. Highly recommend to others. Will stay there again when we return.
Review 85:One bedroom unit in yellow building was tight for family of 4, but would be great for two or three people. Pull out couch was comfortable. We were unable to unlock the gate leading from the building to the boardwalk and had to jump the gate each time. The windows really needed cleaning but realize it is tough to keep salt air and spray washed away.
Review 86:Beach front location on Gold Beach, right next to Arromanches was great. Also, this is a good location for exploring D-Day Normandy beaches and sights, Bayeux and doing land sailing on the beach. There are two buildings at the location, one more contemporary, the other a yellow vertical one, on the left when walking up from the beach. The contemporary one seems much nicer, with a lawn area and chaises for relaxing between it and the boardwalk. Try to book the contemporary one. For a great dinner, book at La Raconnier in Crepon! This is where you pick up the key to the gites, about 5 km away. Dining options in Asnelles/Aromanches are average.
Review 87:We received the third floor, 2 rooms apartment. There are all kitchenfacilities needed except tea/coffee, sugar. The bed is verycomfortable, big windows and breathtaking view.
Review 88:Everything was perfect
Review 89:The cottage is very cozy, with fantastic location on the beach in very charming quiet village. Good Wi-fi. We have got enough and satisfactory informations about how to get a key and how to find the cottage.
Review 90:Not much. Close enough to other towns and plenty to do for families.
Review 91:Asnelles is a lovely town. We enjoyed our place too. I would definitely recommend it !
Review 92:Check in was at an inn about 5 km away and was quite difficult to findthe first time. The kitchen didn't have any food products--salt,pepper, cooking oil, vinegar. Those non-perishable items would have beennice to have. They aren't the kind of things you take with you on aplane. A bit too much furniture in the place--made it somewhat cramped.
Review 93:It was in an excellent location for visiting the Normandy D-Daybeaches. We stayed in the cottage, which had a 2nd story view out tothe ocean. It was very quiet and the bed was very comfy. They had 2wall unit space heaters & a portable one as well, which was nice totake the chill off.
Review 94:The huge wardrobe in the bedroom wasn't really functional as it was too big to open properly! It was however an interesting conversation piece.
Review 95:There was a big old tub in the bathroom. The location was perfect with sea sights and sounds.
Review 96:Staff not particular warm & fuzzy types... not very welcoming. Wish each unit had a fireplace but we "survived." :) Could use some simple mixing/serving bowls. Wish it had a DVD player with movies to borrow.
Review 97:Location! Right on the beach. A wonderful way to wake up & an even better way to watch the sunset from your living room or bedroom window each day. Good kitchen with easy to use appliances. Nice pots & pans and dishware. Beds clean & comfortable. Excellent, roomy bathroom. Wifi worked very well. TV with English Channels was nice.
Review 98:Check-in and check-out required at a nearby hotel. Not a negative, but would have been nice to be informed that on Saturday evenings, you cannot eat at any restaurant in Asnelles without a reservation.
Review 99:Located right on the beach. Just 2 km from Arromanche, a great place to start an historical Normandy tour. Beautiful accommodations with lots of windows and great view. Soap and toilet paper included.
Review 100:Nothing much, but floor heating didn't seem to work too well in the bedroom, but it was fine. Also, remember to ask for extra towels if you think you would need it at check in to avoid having to drive back.
Review 101:It consists of 3 buildings on the same lot, and we stayed in the modern style building in an apartment named "Les Pieds dans l'eau." You can google their website to see floor plans and better descriptions of their apartments. Check-in is at Ferme de la Ranconniere a few km away. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, in fact the Normans seem to all be friendly and easy going. This apartment and the area is so beautiful we immediately extended our stay. It can sleep 5, though we are a family of four--a double and twin in the bedroom, and a double sofa bed in the living area. Fully equipped kitchen with every utensil/pan/pot you would need, though no dishwasher. Plenty of space in the apartment as well as a nice yard with tables and chairs to relax or eat outside. It is just a few steps to the beach, of which you have a beautiful view through those huge picture windows in the living area. Nice size shower, lots of counter/cabinet space, blackout curtains, excellent wifi, parking right next to the building, and very quiet--could not hear the neighbors above or next to us. D-Day concrete remnants are right out in front of you, though the Mulberry is a few km drive to Arromanches; St Mere Eglise is about 1 hour drive; Sword beach about 30 min drive in the other direction. There is a playground at the check in point if your children somehow get bored of the beach.
Review 102:The thing that I didn't like is that you pick up the keys at adifferent location. There is no soap holder in the shower (which isbeautiful by the way), no tissue/Kleenex, shower cap, orshampoo/conditioner as there is in the hotel rooms, yet afterbooking your room you receive an email saying that everything isprovided. I don't really care that they don't have these items, but if you travel light then you should know that none of these thingsare provided. I would stay here again in a heartbeat though!
Review 103:This place was beautiful. It was spacious, we stayed in room 500, whichis a one bedroom with a pullout sofa. The kitchen was fully stocked withpots, pans, dishes, glasses/mugs, and silverware. There was dishwashing soap as well. The beds were comfortable including the pullout.)! It's close to everything (Omaha Beach, Juno Beach, and theNormandy Cemetery). It is also right on Gold Beach with actual wwiiartifacts right in the water, seen from the front window, which reallyplaces you in the heart of history.
Review 104:You can have breakfast at a larger place owned by the owners of thishouse. It is a farm, very elegant, called Ferme De La Raconnier. We ateat our house as we wanted every moment of the view!If you want to seeone of the D-Day beaches, this is a great place!
Review 105:We stayed in a house with 3 bedrooms and one of them had a front room& a kitchen. This allowed our party of 6 to be together and weactually cooked a meal there as there are dishes, etc. The one largerapt. Has huge windows that look out on utah beach, which is where theCanadian Allies landed in June of 1944! When the tide is out, you canwalk out to the "Mulberries". Not far from other Normandysites, such as the Museum at Caen. Beautiful beach view and sunsets!Quiet & relaxing!
Review 106:nothing
Review 107:great location, the apartment we rented was absolutely superb, clean, spacious, very comfortable. Very comfortable bed , kitchen very well equipped, cosy leaving room with see view. I highly recommend to everyone who want to have a quite relaxing time :-)
Review 108:The cottage smelled horrible when we entered so we opened windows and left. When we returned, it still smelled horrible so we drove back to where we had to pick up the key. They offerred to move us, but we had already unpacked, so we instead took cleaning supplies to clear the ktichen drain.
Review 109:This place was absolutely wonderful! I would highly recommend this place to anyone. It was a beautiful location and the large picture window enabled us to see the water from the couch. The cottage also had a lot of natural light with all the windows. Kitchen was a perfect size. Our bedroom was on the opposite side of the living room so my brother had hid privacy with the sofa couch and we had the bedroom. There is a butcher shop, bakery and convenience store within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again!
Review 110:There were no instructions for any of the appliances, which would havebeen helpful. Also some information about local facilities/places ofinterest would have been most welcome. There was also a lot of noisefrom the upstairs accommodation. The shower had no safety thermostatfitted which resulted in some near accidents!
Review 111:The accommodation was of a very high standard and well maintained. Thehouse stands on a beautiful beach in a quiet location. The downstairsand upstairs can be rented together which would make it more private.
Review 112:Can't think of anything.
Review 113:Romantic and classy, yet cozy and comfortable and warmly inviting. Tastefully and warmly decorated, but almost castle-like in look and feel. The buildings were well preserved/restored and thoughtfully converted to hotel/restaurant use. From the front desk to the restaurant, the service was impeccable - well above the norm for Britain.
Review 114:The apartment was somewhat difficult to find if you don't know the area. The road sign is difficult to see. The requirement to pick up and dropoff the keys at a different location was a bit time-consuming.
Review 115:We loved the apartment. It was very modern, clean and spacious. It is asuperb location right on the beach.
Review 116:There were a lot of flies and it would have been very useful if there was some fly spray in the villa. Other than that it was perfect.
Review 117:The location was perfect. It was set right on gold beach which suited us for our d day explorations. I would highly recommend this villa for any traveller exploring Normandy as it was located right in the middle of everything we wanted to see. The view from the villa was stunning and we will miss waking up to such a wonderful view.
Review 118:The cottage is really cute and cozy. We have no complaints. One peice of feedback would be regarding the weather. During our stay it was was pretty damp outside so it was hard to regulate the humidity inside the cottage. The windows seem to steam up a bit with the heat on. Maybe a dehumidifier would help during the damper months.
Review 119:We traveled with our 2 children (6 and 9) for a 5 day holiday along the coast of Normandy. We were very happy with the accommodations and would book there again. The staff (spoke English) was ready to great us at the main hotel in Crepon, they set us up with area guide information and had the key and instructions, tips on groceries and places to eat. The cottage was set up with 2 extra beds upstairs for the children, which was a surprise. We found that the cottage is a little small but the use of space and furniture made it comfortable for morning coffee and breakfast and cozy evenings after putting the kids to bed. The kids had room to play and the upstairs down stairs set up helped a lot. The kitchen and bathroom were both very clean and modern. The kitchen is completely stocked with all your cooking tool needs, the refrigerator is half size and there really is not a freezer so think twice if you buy ice cream. We brought a small amount of cooking spices/coffee/sugar etc so we did not have to buy everything to make meals at home. You can see the beach from the windows and hear the waves, the enclosed garden was a bonus and the beach is 20 secs from the front door. There is a grocery store in town, less than 500m east of the cottage, but there is also larger shops in Bayeux (15mins) or a Carrefore 15 mins east along the water. We were overwhelmed with the tide changes and the remaining WWII structures off the cost, we knew we would be on Gold beach but did not expect to feel so connected to the past with this piece of history right out our door. We would stay here again, October was a perfect time to have a quite relaxing family get away and see all the important places without the crowds.
Review 120:There was a terrible smell coming from the refrigerator and side curtains were missing, (being cleaned). The parking lot was so muddy with large puddles.
Review 121:The location was excellent, the price was reasonable, the accommodations were large and comfortable.
Review 122:Its the second time this year that I have stayed there. The position is good..its always spotlessly clean. The staff at Ferme de la Ranconniere who hold the keys all speak very good English and are very helpful. A five star establishment .
Review 123:I knew there wasn't a washing machine before I booked, but installingone would be desirable - it is supposed to be self-containedaccommodation - but not to have an ironing board, iron (although I hadmy own travel iron) or any means of indoor drying of swim-wear, socks,is very poor. The inviting sofa is a huge disappointment, it is actuallya sofa bed, but the mechanism causes a slight bulge in the centre ofeach cushion and I found myself sliding off; on those occasions Imanaged to stay on, it wasn't comfortable. The toilet is a littlecramped for a six-footer. The window in the bathroom needs a blind orcurtain - the morning sun shines directly through it onto the bathroommirror and is blinding; to shave, I had to stand uncomfortably to oneside. The pedal bin in the kitchen was broken. The kitchen tap had aleak at the base. If you are allocated one of the top floor flats -there is no element of choice or information regarding the compositionor layout of the gites (that I could see) on Booking.com - be preparedto negotiate two flights of stairs; I had my small dog and a fair amountof luggage with me, so it was a bit of a pain, and the (necessary) waythey are constructed, especially the upper flight, demands a littlecareful negotiation. I echo another contributor's comment: it's beach-front accommodation, for the people in the flats, there should besomewhere at external ground level to shower/rinse and towel. Finally, Iwasn't there to watch tv, but on the odd occasion I did, the digitalsignal broke up often on a few channels and received no signal at all onsome others. Also, it states that there is a 'pay-per-view' facility, but I couldn't see how to access it.
Review 124:The location, directly overlooking the D-Day 'Gold' Beach was perfect.Great views, beautiful sunsets and sunrises, huge, clean beach. Theaccommodation was very clean. For my requirements, the large bed andpillows was very comfortable. The armchair is very comfortable (seeother comment, below). I would recommend the accommodation but only fora couple of days' duration as, longer than that, the lack of facilities(see below) would begin to take their toll.
Review 125:We liked everything about this Gites.
Review 126:It is on a quiet area of Gold Beach, with easy access to walk the beach and enjoy the sound, smell, and sights of the ocean, without being crowded out by kitschy touristic venues. The apartment is well stocked and very comfortable. It is a perfect location for day trips in and around Normandy.
Review 127:We stayed for 6 nights and had the same bedding and towels the whole time. It would have been nice to have new towels and bedding at least once during our stay. I'm sure if we would have called they would have brought over new towels but to me that should have happened automatically with a 6 night stay. So don't be afraid to call. It also would have been nice to have a list of local restaurants and grocery stores with numbers and times. Since this is an Apartment we planned on doing cooking, but it was hard to find places that were open to get groceries. The two Restaurants in Asnelles asked if we had reservations, one was fully booked but luckily the other was not!
Review 128:Would stay here again in a heart beat! LOCATION is AMAZING and perfect for d-day beaches. It is located on Gold Beach right next to Arromanches and Omaha Beach. The apartment is right on the beach all that separates you from the ocean is a board walk and a little lawn in your yard. Bayeux is just a 20 min drive. There is a great little restaurant, butcher and a pastry shop in the heart of the town (asnelles). There is also a small convenience/ souvenir shop to get some basic groceries. Please note that you have to pick up the key in a little town next to Asnelles called Crepon! The kitchen was fully loaded, which made it easy to cook. I would bring shoes or slippers to wear in the apartment since you bring in a lot of sand. Low tide is incredible!
