Reviews for Hotel des Poèmes de Chartres
Review 1:paid full rate they said I had booked and not booking .com, even though I showed them the link, in to much of rush to argue, but will not bother with your service again
Review 2:nothing to like even the bar was in the hotel next door
Review 3:No elevator, but that was not really a problem.
Review 4:Clean, quiet room, excellent new bathroom. Nearby the railway-station and the cathedral. Very friendly staff. I enjoyed the breakfast.
Review 5:Sound travels easily from other rooms. Would have preferred a double bed (which I did write in the preference section when booking) rather than twin beds. Beds were pushed together though so we weren't sleeping in single beds. We were on the 3rd floor and there was no lift - although this was not a problem for us, it could be an issue for some.
Review 6:Extremely helpful and pleasant staff. Neutral and tasteful decor was relaxing. Bathroom was great with an amazing shower head. Bed was very comfy. Brilliant location to the cathedral and restaurants. I would recommend due to the overall quality of the hotel.
Review 7:The room was excellent .The location was excellent for central Chartres. It is 50 metres from the train station. The parking was convenient. I would certainly stay there in the future
Review 8:Walking through hotel Jehan de Beauce breakfast room to Hotel des Poemes breakfast room. We were in an overflow room.
Review 9:Very close to the station. Very helpful staff.
Review 10:My. Shower floor was very slippery but that is all I was disappointed in.
Review 11:When I got off the train I was exhausted so it was a wonderful site to see the hotel from the train station.
Review 12:the shower and the blind was broken i really wished i could have made a cup of tea in the evening when i was relaxing no free parking
Review 13:lovely breakfast helpful staff
Review 14:Rooms in loft stuffy and air could not circulate, was nearly 30 degrees when we were there. 2 flights of stairs to rooms, which with luggage for family travelling around made it more difficult.
Review 15:Lovely decor and beds comfortable. Parking close and easy. Really helpful staff. As family of 4, we had 2 rooms with bathroom in middle which worked really well.
Review 16:no complaints
Review 17:Lovely central hotel with very friendly staff. It was very comfortable and spotless and staff very anxious to help. The receptionist Agatha was lovely - booked an amazing French restaurant for us . All of the staff were very nice and professional.
Review 18:Excellent and accommodating staff. Nice old hotel very near the train station and within easy walking distance of the cathedral. Very clean. Excellent breakfast; staff member supervising the breakfast was super.
Review 19:Breakfast seem a little expensive at €16 pp. Our child would have loved a swimming pool, but we knew this before we booked!
Review 20:Location was good, the only let down was possibly the traffic noise. Hotel was really nice.
Review 21:We couldn't get the WiFi working; rooms quite hot as windows don't open fully.
Review 22:Lovely old, tastefully decorated, attic rooms with 2 separate bedrooms for the family. On the 3rd floor, there is no noise from traffic or the railway opposite. Very helpful staff who are fluent in English.
Review 23:Early morning noise from lorries etc on Station side of the hotel.
Review 24:The hotel was just far enough out of the centre - a nice walk to the restaurant. Great English speaking staff!!
Review 25:Very noisy due to location. Air conditioning so windows could be kept closed would be a big improvement.
Review 26:Newly refurbished Very helpful staff who spoke good English
Review 27:No air con on a very hot day.
Review 28:Staff were very helpful and hotel was near the centre for easy walking to restaurants and the sites. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
Review 29:Car park was to rear and on very rough ground. I presume that this will be dealt with at some point as I think the hotel was newly renovated
Review 30:Fabulous quality boutique hotel. Decor was great, room was great and breakfast was great. Staff were very friendly
Review 31:There is no air conditioning so the rooms can get hot in summer. More seriuosly there is no lift and so it would be no good people with mobilty problems. I didn't notice any ground floor rroms.
Review 32:Extremely convenient location - right opposite the main railway station and bus station. Has a very quirky boutique style of decor - may not suit some!
Review 33:Easy to find. Opposite the station. Parking available behind hotel for E5. Cheerful, helpful staff. Everything was brand, spanking new. Comfy bed & towels that really wrapped around you!....Just wish I was a hearty breakfaster; excellent variety & very fresh.
Review 34:3rd floor under the ceiling too hot and with the window open a lot of noise from the road and train station. Otherwise really nice, and they said they're putting in air con soon.
Review 35:Great location and family room for 4 was perfect
Review 36:The hotel is a little difficult to find on arrival as it is on the roundabout opposite the station but you can pull up on the pavement outside to unload.
Review 37:Very nice room with comfortable bed. The hotel is well located within a very short walk of the cathedral which has a fantastic luminaire show that is not to be missed.
Review 38:No lift available (as far as we were informed by the staff...). Curtains are not enough to darken the room...
Review 39:Nice hotel, placed just in front of Chartres railway station. The room was comfortable and very clean, with grey-and-white furnitures. The hotel is quiet and in a good location to start a trip to Chartres centre. Quality/price ratio: ok!
Review 40:helpfulness of staff. we arrived with my mother who has mobility issues and they changed our rooms to accomodate this without us even asking. advice on the city, where to eat and directions. could not have been nicer. would return without hesitation.
Review 41:Room at the back was very small, hot, noisy, though the bed was comfortable. Breakfast room was small, not well staffed. When two hotels are joined together, two different categories, but same staff, as clients of the hotel des Poêmes, we felt very inferior. We would not go back there.
Review 42:No A/C, resulting in a horrendously hot room as it was in the loft space of the hotel. Shower tray was slow to drain so had to stop shower halfway through. Room was very 'cosy'.... No lift made the track to the 3rd floor a healthy workout with luggage. Personal concerns over fire escape route from top floor room.
Review 43:Allowing the whole family to stay in one room
Review 44:Design of renovated room. Space impinged on with beams to ceiling and almost no cupboard space.
Review 45:Position was excellent, within short walk of Chartres Cathedral and opposite railway station. Staff very very friendly and helpful. Safe parking behind hotel.
Review 46:Directions - could be much simpler. Just say "Opposite railway station" would have been a help.
Review 47:Ambience of bar/reception area and friendly and helpful staff.
Review 48:Free wifi but it was erratic and did not work in bedroom.
Review 49:Fantastic location within short walk of the cathedral and town centre charms and amenities, station car park across the road, simple, elegant decor, stylish bar (-but don't order the Caiperinia if you are Brazilian!) as part of the same complex.
Review 50:Stuffy and hot. No ventilation or AC in the room. The traffic-noise outside stopped us from opening the window.
Review 51:Nice room decor and friendly staff. Close to everything.
Review 52:Room was in poorer half of two hotels adjoining each other. Room on 3rd floor in attic only a sky light to open, on air conditioning, temperatures +38 degrees. Unbearable!!! Unable to sleep felt ill in morning due to no air in room. Breakfast a rip off for 9 euros
Review 53:Location
Review 54:My only complaint is that they charge extra for breakfast. That said, I would absolutely stay here again!
Review 55:The location is awesome. Right across the street from Chartres' train station and within a 5 min walk to the cathedral. Ideal!
Review 56:unable to open window in one of the 2 rooms that were booked so a little uncomfortable as very hot night
Review 57:spacious rooms, good to be in a place that isn't like most of the "chain hotels"
Review 58:The employees were very nice, excellent breakfast. Comfortable beds. Convenient location to train station, 5 minute walk to Cathedral and great shopping and restaurants right near the church.
Review 59:Not really a dislike but the wet room shower would have been better with a screen to shield the loo
Review 60:The central location, friendly staff and the quality of the room.
Review 61:We stayed on both our outward and inward journeys. The shutters did not work well on the first room we had and on the return, despite asking for the same room on the back we were given one on the front with NO shutters. It was a very noisy night. Cracked and worn breakfast crockery.
Review 62:Convenient location and parking. Very comfortable bed.
Review 63:Breakfast room too small and no staff on duty for filling up. Car park very small and full of holes - very lucky to get space.
Review 64:Room quiet and dark blinds to keep out early sun- bed crisp and fresh and comfortable. Ideal central location to explore the town.
Review 65:Streeet noise in the morning on the front of building. Ask for quiet room . otherrwise it is an excellent hotel
Review 66:Service was excellent , particularly Alise. The room and bathroom was very clean and comfortable.
Review 67:Towels, only one set provided each day.
Review 68:We had an unusually spacious room with a big comfortable bed. The perfect choice if you arrive by train. And the reception staff are very pleasant and helpful.
Review 69:Room was superbly furnished and decorated but fancy wall coverings, quilted wardrobe doors, complimentary dressing gowns and slippers don't make up for the fact that there was no mirror in the bedroom, no towel rail in the bathroom, and no tea/coffee making facilities, which I expect as standard in all hotels nowadays. We paid extra for a cooked breakfast which was scrambled egg and one rasher of bacon.
Review 70:Recently refurbished to a high standard. We were offered a free upgrade to a room which appeared to be in the Hotel Jehan de Beauce next door, but the two seem to be the same building - confusing! Convenient location for city centre. The station car park opposite is secure and not too expensive.
Review 71:This is a new hotel and there were a few things that weren't quite finished but this is quite understandable. The staff were super helpful and always available. The room were tastefully decorated, the beds comfortable and the shower pressure amazing.
Review 72:The window was too high to see out of and there was a long climb up the stairs.
Review 73:Wonderful location near the Cathedral and the old city. The room was modern, comfortable and well decorated, but rather short of storage space even for our modest needs
Review 74:The breakfast room was unheated and freezing cold. None of the staff thought of offering to use another room for breakfast. The parking in the courtyard was very uneven and we were first told to park the car in the middle of a big puddle of water - wearing city shoes and not Wellingtons !
Review 75:Good location opposite the station and close to the old town. Good bed and the room to the back was quiet.
Review 76:The room had no phone, no fridge or minibar. View from window are bad. No lift so have to take bags up the stairs.
Review 77:Really charming decor in the room and decent location within walking distance of town centre and right opposite train station. Nice continental breakfast. Parking free in multilevel car park accross the street.
Review 78:We booked this hotel, but they gave us a room at the hotel next door because this hotel was under construction. We stayed at the hotel Jehan de Beauce which was ok but a much more modern hotel and we were looking forward to the quaint rustic charm that we had seen in the photos of this hotel.
Review 79:Room was a bit smaller than a typical 4 star room
Review 80:Upgraded to their 4 star hotel complex next door. Comfortable clean room 2 or 3 minutes walk from cathedral. Staff were very nice indeed. Breakfast rather minimal for the price but adequate.
Review 81:The fact that I was not warned that the Hotel des Poèmes de Chartres is actually under renovation and therefore you are 'upgraded' to a hotel next door.
Review 82:The hotel I actually stayed in up the road was lovely, comfortable beds, great facilities.
Review 83:Having just been completely renovated, the hotel was very modern with new fittings. It was very clean and warm. The staff were very efficient and helpful. It is about 5 minutes walk to the cathedral, so it is well placed with many bars and restaurants within an easy walk.
Review 84:You have to carry your suitcases up 3 flights of stairs - but we had packed day bags, so it was not a problem.
Review 85:We were given an upstairs room with 2 bedrooms with a bath in-between. The decor was fresh and lovely. It was quiet, the temperature was good, it was easy to walk to the cathedral. For an extra 5Euros/night there was parking in a secure garage next door.
Review 86:Work still going on - seems to be a merging of Hotels Poemes & jb -very smart but no full length mirror in room, no door hook to hang wetcoats (it was pouring all weekend) & fancy bathroom basin hadnowhere to put tablet of soap (provided by them) which kept falling tothe floor. Staff very disorganized, didn't make my requested parkingreservation, so we were told to park on rough area at rear & werestill charged full rate; they asked me 4 times if the 3 of us in 2 roomswanted breakfast both mornings - poor selection & quality ofbread/croissants at breakfast & expected to eat from tiny tablesor coffee tables, albeit using excellent china! We were staying for 2nights & neither of the 2 rooms were serviced at all during the stayso had to ask for extra toilet paper (poor quality). All very strangewhen they've obviously spent considerable money on decor &fixtures. Staff just said they didn't know why the maid hadn'tdone our rooms (!) - we'd have expected parking fee to have beenwaived or a drink knocked off bar bill as so much had been"fawlty" ! Owners need to review staff training to protecttheir investment in the building & smart finish.
Review 87:Good location near railway station & short walk to Cathedral &old city. Excellent shower & comfy bed in newly reappointed roomswith quality fixtures & fittings but....
Review 88:Upgraded to 4 star hotel next door due to hotel being upgraded and under renovations. The four star hotel was fabulous. Cannot give any specific detail about Hotel de Poemes as although we booked there, we were sent next door for the upgrade. Hotels are in a prime location right opposite Chartres station, and a short walk to cathedral
Review 89:There was nothing to dislike
Review 90:The room was really nicely decorated in keeping with the age of the building , the bed was really comfortable and the breakfast was good. The staff were really friendly and helpful. If I was to visit Chartres again I would stay there again
Review 91:Parking was in the muddy back yard that was full of vehicles + there was some work going on. Non-existent noise isolation, so arrival of noisy family next door annoyed me considerably, thankfully they were in bed by the time we were back. The gare area in front of the hotel felt a bit rough when we arrived. Hotel had a feeling of being in the middle of some transformation - no one at reception when we arrived - receptionist kindly informed us that they are connecting with the neighbouring hotel.
Review 92:Lovely big room, wide and comfortable bed, nice new bathroom with modern shower, friendly staff
Review 93:Hotel De Poemes de Chartres ahs been newly remodeled and open a couple of months. The staff was eager to serve us, the location to the city sites is perfect, and the train station is just across the street. One hour from Paris by train - perfect. Chartres is a very nice city. Thank you, staff, for a very nice stay.
Review 94:Nothing - loved this hotel and town!
Review 95:Staff were excellent - everything we asked was answered with an abundance of help, smiles and willingess. Convenience of this hotel was brilliant, being just across the road from the train station and bike hire with none of the noise you might expect. A three minute walk to the Cathedral and the historic centre of Chartres, so you can wander even late at night with the amazing light show here.
Review 96:Hotel site was being refurbished (reception area) which caused some confusion. Also limited parking on site but Street parking was close by.
Review 97:A good hotel near the railway station and close to the sites in Chartres. Clean and tidy with excellent helpful staff.
Review 98:Difficulty getting into hotel late night, no access code given on arrival & nobody on desk.
Review 99:Room at back of hotel, so quieter than on previous visit.
Review 100:Only a little comment our room was a little small for a 4 night stay.
Review 101:Everything from location to staff who were very friendly and helpful. Barman Pascale served a mean cocktail and played great music which added to ambience.
Review 102:Staff were warm and welcoming. Offering maps wifi code etc without us having to ask. Small bright room. Good breakfast. Right across road from railway station. Few minutes walk to cathedral.
Review 103:There was no lift and the family room was on the top floor!!! The hotel was still being renovated so things weren't quite finished and therefore the common areas were a bit of a letdown. Would have been nice to have a bath in the bathroom as with young children you tend to want to bathe them.
Review 104:Brilliant location. Friendly and helpful staff. The family room was newly decorated and was nice and spacious. It comprised two rooms within one front door. Both rooms were large and had huge beds and there was a good sized bathroom with an excellent power shower. Quiet as up high above the traffic.
Review 105:The parking was across the street in the public train parking station. No elevator so if traveling with a baby ask to be on first floor.
Review 106:The hotel staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The hotel is very charming and clean.
Review 107:modern and comfortably stylish rooms, the staff were excellent and extremely helpful and a great breakfast...what more could you ask for? Parking was close and relatively cheap and the location was perfect - close to the cathedral and station and the town.
Review 108:It seemed to be in the midst of a building site. The rooms are small and the parking is pretty primitive, but secure. The clerk was very friendly but we could find no information about Chartres or what to see and do (other than the cathedral, of course). Fine for a night.
Review 109:Its location is by the train station but don't let that put you off. Fine for a night.
Review 110:We had to wait for our room but other than that we thought it was a great little find. Lovely decor, great location for everything, friendly and helpful staff and lovely continental breakfast . Most enjoyable in a beautiful town.
Review 111:This hotel is being refitted which we were not aware of when we booked. There are still wires etc and bits to finish off. The car park is a mess but we were booked into the station car park across the road for €5 which was fine.
Review 112:Charming hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. Easy walking distance to centre of town where there is plenty to see. Great stop off on journey through France. Very good self service breakfast.
Review 113:Chartres can get a bit noisy at night but there's nothing the hotel can do about that.
Review 114:When we arrived it was obvious that the hotel was having major renovation work done so my heart sank. However, the work did not impact on the available rooms at all. Our room was very comfortable with new bedding and fluffy towels. The Japanese restaurant next door is fantastic.
Review 115:1- Overcharged through transactions on 23/8 and 28/8 - my card was somehow misused by the hotel. This may have been in error but I am still waiting to be repaid. I have called and written to the hotel. I am ver unhappy with this. I was told by the manager Nicola that there was nothing he could assist on. See also 2 below. 2 - Fell over a barrier on way into hotel. Access was poor during construction.
Review 116:Duty manager Cécile was very pleasant Room was good overall and breakfast was fine
Review 117:Noise from street level though appreciate was out of the control of the hotel.Maybe consider sound proofing the windows? No means of making a hot drink in the room. Parking nearby was tricky
Review 118:Comfortable beds, newly re furbished rooms. Very clean.Staff welcoming. Location was near to cathedral/restaurants etc.
Review 119:Although we arrived much later than planned because of several traffic jams, we enjoyed our short stay thanks to the nice, recently renovated room, a very good breakfast and the friendliness of the staff
Review 120:Nothing
Review 121:The staff were charming and most helpful. The hotel had real character. It is small but very clean and quiet and only about five minutes walk into the town. We would stay there again
Review 122:They were taking the facade off the hotel as we arrived- didn't bother us one bit. Inside unaffected. Parking is in railway station car park, so secure we couldn't get out without assistance! Holiday memories are made of these moments! Not hotel's fault at all.
Review 123:Tranquil attic rooms for family suite. Ideal for older family. Love Chartres. Very pleasant stay with helpful concierge, good breakfast, comfortable suite of rooms. Ideal for stopover.
Review 124:At first sight the location (right opposite station). Very thin walls mean that you can hear almost everything - footsteps, hairdryers, voices in corridor etc. This could be a problem if you were near to people who came back late at night making lots of noise.
Review 125:Cleanliness, facilities in room, decor, comfort of bed, accessibility to centre of Chartres. Staff pleasant and helpful.
Review 126:There were no maps of the town or tourist information available and as it was a Sunday the tourist information office was closed. A small town map would have been very helpful.
Review 127:Rooms had obviously been updated very recently. Extremely comfortable room. Bath products welcome. Comfortable bed.
Review 128:The building work made access difficult and parking was an issue. Breakfast was diabolical - not enough room to service the number of guests (waited 20mins and saw others turned away), food was average and crockery was chipped.
Review 129:Lovely style of decor and very clean comfortable rooms. Small bedside fans were a nice touch. Only a short walk to the cathedral.
Review 130:No parking, we had to pay to use the car park down the road. dining area was very small and we had to wait 20 mins before a table was prepared by the one member of staff who was also trying to run the front reception and check people in and out
Review 131:Lovely clean hotel and friendly staff
Review 132:As a mature couple we did not appreciate having to drag our luggage up 2 large flights of stairs as there was no lift or porters. The temporary entrance was very dangerous to negotiate with no boards placed on wet slippery entrance renovation. Pedestrian access was unacceptable. The breakfast room was unbearably hot and incredibly small. It did not meet guest numbers
Review 133:We liked the cleanliness of the room and the attractive decor
Review 134:The access was awful, had to walk over a construction site and minimal adjustments were made for guests. No air conditioning. Unable to accommodate us for breakfast due to lack of tables.
Review 135:Good location to visit sites. Room was good size and furnishings were very good. Despite building work, hotel was quite.
