Reviews for Hotel Selwo Lodge - Includes Animal Park Tickets
Review 1:No catering at dinner time+ I have had much better the breakfast, this is all they need to improve on
Review 2:Sleeping in a confy African style hut in the middle of a zoo. We ended up at the far end of the zoo after closing time and they just gave us a lift free of charge.
Review 3:Nothing within walking distance of park especially at night. No or very limited transport, no bar after 8pm,this restricted social interaction and night entertainment.
Review 4:Lovely setting great views from hut over the bay. Staff very helpful and always cheery. Lovely for intimate secluded getaway.
Review 5:We were booked in to stay overnight. The accommodation was up on a hill. The access was very steep. The rooms were very basic and there were no facilities open in the evening. You had to leave the park to eat or get a drink!! Very disappointing. The animal enclosures left a lot to be desired. The park was a lot smaller than expected.
Review 6:The Safari. The guide was very informative.
Review 7:The only down side is there was NO place to eat after 5pm.. so if you wanted food or anything you had to walk (dont do it) or get a taxi if you can to a local establishment - to give you an Idea I walked for an hour alongside a busy motor way to reach the next place to eat!!
Review 8:Amazing little place that I will be visiting again.. Loved it - the park itself is kept clean and the animals ( a lot of rescues) are kept clean and fed and healthy. loved the experience of staying in the hut
Review 9:The check in was awful & we were not allowed to check in until 1230 it took until 1330 to get to our hut which you had to rely on a van & man to take you!
Review 10:The safari was really good fun for my kids
Review 11:Brilliant value for money, spacious rooms with comfy beds, decent breakfast and a great safari tour to finish it all off. A unique experience, luxury camping with an African twist!
Review 12:the location was far aware and cant get to it on foot, inside the huts was no light and terrible accommodation really, full of ants, tiny tv.
Review 13:the good thing was you didnt have to pay to get into the park and so saved a lot of money and the staff were very helpful
Review 14:See above
Review 15:Loved the park and staying there was fun, service could have been better, especially when we couldn't get our evening meals at the restaurant which closed at 6, we arrived at 530 to be told the kitchen was closed, cost us 60 euro in taxis to eat out, other than that was fine
Review 16:Not many eat/drink facilities were open. There are machines with water or soda bottels in it though.
Review 17:Being in the zoo before and after opening hours is special. Hearing the animals at night.
Review 18:With the amount of land Selwo has, I feel some of the animals could have larger, and better equipped enclosures.
Review 19:Staying on the actual park was a great experience, as when all the other visitors had gone home ( and before they arrived in the morning) we could look quietly at all the animals.Authentic cosy African huts, delicious breakfast, and the staff were friendly, and helpful. Me and my young daughter had a fantastic time there, it was great to spend some quality time with her.
Review 20:Room was freezing I hardly slept as I was so cold. I only stayed one night but was moving on elsewhere so I had a large case I arrived late due to my flight and the lodge/ hut I stayed in was quite a long walk up steep slopes and steps. This was difficult with my cases. The Security man had to help me. As a female traveller alone I didn't feel very safe in the accomodation and hadn't realised it would be so far away from a reception desk
Review 21:The Security Man was very helpful
Review 22:not properly advertised for the winter months as the facilities were not working, no breakfast until 10 am, nowhere to get a drink in the evening or morning apart from a coke machine. the mud huts were a hike in the dark from the car park.
Review 23:The food available in resteraunts was way too expensive...a burger meal was 13€ and similar prices for nuggets and chips etc.
Review 24:The lodges were clean and tidy and located in nice area of the park. Staff were very good with my children paying them allot of attention. Animals all appeared well looked after and park clean.
Review 25:To reach your cabin you need to go up a steep slope, something that is not so easy for everyone - but this is no argument for not recommending the place, just to keep it in mind.
Review 26:Waking up in the zoo, very nice staff and the possibility of visiting this beautiful park in two days (included in price) so you are in no hurry. The safari was also included in the price, something that came as a very nice surprise to us.
Review 27:We didn't like that there was no where to eat on the park after 7 pm. It would be great if there was a restaurant or cafe open till 10 pm. But you can take some food with you but there is only a microwave there for everyone to share.
Review 28:This was a great park .It was like being in Africa on a safari. We loved the stone huts. Great idea. You felt like you had been locked in the park for the night. We loved that you could still walk around a section of the park after general public had gone.
Review 29:No kettle in room for making drinks. However there is a fridge.
Review 30:Great place to stay. Free entry to the park for 2 full days for cost of 1 night made it very economical. It made the zoo experience amazing for children. Breakfast amongst the animals was a highlight!
Review 31:We loved it all and will return :-)
Review 32:My wife and I took this as a night away "kid free"... it was amazing, there was a short walk to the hut but no problem there. We spent the day walking around the park and then a few drinks and snacks back at the hut before we walked around the areas which were allowed after the park closed. All in all it was a great experience - highly recommend it. The huts have a fridge for you to store drinks and food, but please do know that you need to bring plates and cutlery for any food. At night the peace and quiet was deafening, and one thing we did see were the glow worms in some of the trees which were amazing to watch. I wouldn't recommend bringing kids as they would find it boring on an evening, but for us personally, we found the peace and quiet a welcome change from the usual chaos at home ! Can't wait for our next visit :-)
Review 33:Not much really. The only minor problem was the fact that the menu in the restaurant was a little short of options, but then, it was out of season when we went. There's probably a better choice when the season gets into full swing.
Review 34:The staff were very polite and helpful. There is a good variety of animals and they seem to be well cared for. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Review 35:We really liked staying at Selwo it was so different and fun than anything we had done before we loved meeting the limars that run around there enclosures freely and came up to meet us,great to stay in the park at night, the Red Pandas came out to play you really feel alone with the animals and birds ,just great . The showers worked well, and there was even a fridge and a communal Microwave,if you want to go out at night the guards let you in an out ...the whole thing was a great adventure ...the next day we went on a four hour river horse ride with Riding fun in the sun at Caseres near Manivilla see facebook and trip advisor for address
Review 36:Nothing drastic but worth knowing that the lodge is not luxurious but perfectly comfortable and clean. Some extra activities (ie camel rides and giraffe feeding) cost but are not expensive.
Review 37:All the staff at the park were outstanding and nothing was too much trouble. The variety of animals and access to them was great. We stayed in a Watu Village lodge at the top of the hill which was peaceful and had great views. Overall a fantastic time for a family with young children.
Review 38:All the saff were very friendly and attentive during my stay and bigcompliments to the receptionist Isabel, than you very much to you all! I was also very pleased how clean and good maintained the safari Park. Hot water for shower was excellent.
Review 39:Food choice was limited and v expensive
Review 40:staying overnight was a brilliant experience.
Review 41:Carting our luggage up to our rooms
Review 42:Enjoyed having the park basically to ourselves
Review 43:too long way with the suitcases to the lodge.
Review 44:The concept of the lodge feeling
Review 45:Directions were appauling!
Review 46:Experience of staying on Theme Park & staying in a Detached ´Hut´
The Fine Print
Please note that the bar and restaurant open at 8:30 am and close when the park closes.
