Reviews for Best Western Hôtel Spa Grand Monarque
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:The comfortable room with every amenity, the atmospheric bar with live jazz trio, The lovely staff and service and the very stylish and elegant public areas.
Review 3:Hotel has two restaurants, we thought the food was OK but nothing special
Review 4:Staff were exceptionally helpful, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. After a long tiring journey they were a delight.
Review 5:We'll definitely return. The staff were excellent, the hotel has character, the food (both restaurants) was delicious and we enjoyed the city as well. Even our dog was made to feel welcome. We'll be back and next time will make use of the spa.
Review 6:We have found the Cour brasserie not perfect on last two visits. While the desserts, bread, wine, cheese are all fabulous, the main courses are rather unpredictable and all the choices quite heavy.
Review 7:We love this hotel and stay often when travelling through France. The rooms, Spa, Bar and staff are all fantastic and very welcoming. It is now a real favourite - a home from home.
Review 8:Elegant site, fabulous food even in the brasserie, with a Gourmandise restaurant choice as well. The spa is co-ed and needs swimwear; book any massage etc. ahead.
Review 9:Tiny room, tiny toilet and the size of the room considering the price paid for the room Overrated and overpriced Georges restaurant
Review 10:Closeness to the central tourist sights
Review 11:Very expensive drinks in the bar. Bar very dark and oppressive. Rather tired decor in the entrance and rooms.
Review 12:The location of the hotel. The cleanliness of the rooms and linen. Quiet rooms. We had a good sleep. Meal in the restaurant was good.
Review 13:There are many choise in hotel many Room and suites also a resturant there's tow magnificent in Chartres Le gorges and other also a nice Bar with great tappac location in modern central of city , a very honest and kind staff .
Review 14:Not enough staff. 2 person elevator gets crowded quickly, few parking spots
Review 15:Good location near cathedral and train station. Good breakfast. Nice staff.
Review 16:This is simply a super hotel, I love it, and would come back every time I'm in Chartres - if it was affordable. That seems to depend on the time of the year. The bar is nice too.
Review 17:The room housekeeping left quite a bit to be desired...not good supervision I expect. The Michelain star restaurant was very poor food...the regular restaurant was quite a bit better. The hotel is getting a little shabby around the edges (corridors, rooms, public areas)
Review 18:Staff was nice, hotel has attractive bones but getting shabby, bar very good, dining room very nice, breakfast terrific.
Review 19:Shower was tricky to use without flooding the bathroom
Review 20:Fabulous room in a conveniently located hotel close to the cathedral. Enormous bed which was amazingly comfortable. Delightful staff and terrific breakfast.
Review 21:Nothing to say in this category.
Review 22:Lovely building, brilliant location, helpful staff, beautiful rooms, cosy bar, excellent restaurant, very dog friendly, stayed there twice and booked again.
Review 23:We arrived late evening having driven 7 hours across France and found the hotel all lit up and sparkling elegantly on one of the main squares. Upon checking in the young girl at reception was smiley and friendly and walked outside with us to point out the direction of the car park. It is possible to reserve a space in the hotels car park but I'd forgotten to do this so was happy to discover a public car park pretty much opposite the hotel. There are two dining rooms at the hotel and at the time of our arrival, just before 10pm we only had the option of using the bistro - but we would have chosen this anyway as it was lovely. All lit by lovely lights and candles, good cutlery and glasses and looked like something you would be delighted to come across in the middle of Paris. Our waiter was a nice friendly chap and served us a fabulous, much needed G&T ahead of our delicious dinner! Our room was one of the luxury doubles and was clean and cozy. The bed was so welcoming and comfy that Mr. D was sleeping like a baby within 5 minutes of getting into it! We didn't have much time to see Chartres as we were passing through late at night and leaving the next morning for the Eurotunnel and as far as using the town for this purpose is concerned it worked out perfectly well but both Warren and I agreed we wouldn't want to stay longer in Chartres. The hotel however with it nice elegant little bistro, which was packed to full even on a Wednesday night off peak season was a great place to stay.
Review 24:Reception can be busy and staff tend to answer the phone as it rings despite guests already standing in front of them, waiting.
Review 25:Well situated for all parts of the pedestrianised city. Private parking Sumptuous, large rooms and bathrooms
Review 26:Paper Cups and Wooden / Plastic Stirring Sticks in our bedroom which seems common to all Best Western hotels these days - have stayed in three in the last month all of which were the same in this respect. They spoil an otherwise excellent hotel. Remember it is often the little things that count and make the difference.
Review 27:Just well appointed and very comfortable. We enjoyed a very good meal in their Brassiere.
Review 28:Central position overlooking the Place and a view of the Cathedral. Beautiful room, antique furniture, comfy beds. Valet parking and someone to carry your bags to your room! Bliss
Review 29:The location is great and close to the city. Parking is appreciated albeit some way off. Staff friendliness from the outset was welcoming and helpful to find what to do.
Review 30:Limited parking although there is an expensive good car park across the road and it would be an advantage if the hotel negotiated special daily rates for guests
Review 31:Location
Review 32:The friendly and helpful staff in general, but especially the gastronomic restaurant. It was one of the best meals we have ever had. We also enjoyed the spa.
Review 33:Lovely warm personalised welcome. Lovely nibbles with drinks in the bar. Excellent food and very well chosen wines in the brasserie. Car parking off site good. All staff very charming Will return and try the Michelin starred restaurant
Review 34:Car is parked 200m down street and spaces limited.
Review 35:Beautifully decorated and good sized room with antique furniture. Best bed I have EVER slept in. Tea/coffee in room and great hairdryer. Wonderful dark cocktail bar - very faded glamour - demands a glass of champagne.
Review 36:Car park was full, although alternative pay park close by
Review 37:Great staff, we left our daughters special soft toy behind, but they posted on to us at no charge. Brilliant!
Review 38:Lovely hotel with old and new very well combined. Breakfast a bit expensive but it is in a City but was very good. Staff very helpful and willing. Excellent situation
Review 39:Nothing bad to say but I wished we had upgraded the room, ours was fine but the bedroom was a little small.
Review 40:Superb location and excellent meal (although if you want to eat in the main restaurant it may be best to book in advance). Staff were extremely helpful and the valet parking was most welcome (although again you need to book in advance)
Review 41:Finding the hotel by car, and then parking, was a nightmare. There is nowhere to legally leave your car while you check-in.
Review 42:Staff very helpful once you've checked-in. Good food generally. Well located for city centre.
Review 43:Shower was hard for tall people, below current standards for French high end hotels. Not safe for older people. No safety rails, and climbing into tub to shower is not any longer normal in any hotels of that level
Review 44:Very friendly staff. Location couldn't be better. Our second stay here.
Review 45:Central location, easy access into Chartres town, near to cathedral with shops, restaurants and bars all within short walking distance. Loved the Chartres light show that is currently on every evening from 10pm, which illuminates many of the local buildings. It is easy to follow from the hotel as there are blue lights within the ground indicating the route to follow.
Review 46:Bathroom just been redecorated(Good), Very strong paint odour in our room(Just needed another day to clear)
Review 47:friendly helpful staff .A very good dinner in the restaurant
Review 48:The Bistro restaurant at the hotel (not the michelin star restaurant) - great service but you can eat better elsewhere for far less in Chartres. We used it because it was raining very heavily but the food is nothing special, in fact my tuna pave was border-line for sending back.
Review 49:Location, staff, comfy bed, good bar
Review 50:The pillows were kind of lumpy, the only dissonant note in an otherwise fantastic experience.
Review 51:This hotel is beautiful and the staff is very hospitable. It is within walking distance of the cathedral. We felt very welcome there. Our room was spacious, clean, and quiet. The tollet was separate from the rest of the bathroom facilities, which was nice. The bed was very comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant downstairs was delicious and the breakfast buffet was superb. Chartres itself is, of course, a gem. We hope to return for a longer visit in the future.
Review 52:Nothing we will stay again.
Review 53:Really nice hotel. Excellent location with plenty of underground parking opposite. Chartres is a great town with lots of restaurants all within walking distance. Staff are very friendly, helpfull and most speak English.
Review 54:If would have been nice if the bed was a bit softer, but overall very acceptable.
Review 55:Great location, rooms of good standard, friendly staff. Loved the padded walls and attention to detail.
Review 56:The staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. I left my pearls in my room and on the way back to England, they phoned me. The next week they were back at home exultant. THANKS...
Review 57:This is definitely not a 4-star hotel, at least the room we were staying in. Being a tall man, but not extremely tall -only196 cm, I found I can see only my chest in the bathroom mirror, and I also can wash my hair only while holding the shower in one hand. On the reservation I specifically mentioned my hight and asked for a room to accomodate it. Receptionist has admitted they missed the note but at that time could only offer me a suite for an additional price. I did not accept it and stayed in that room. However, Melanie (she said she was a manager)have sent us a bottle of champagne the next day with apology. It was very nice of them, but our stay was not pleasant
Review 58:The location of this hotel is superb.
Review 59:The bath was the only let down. It was so "plasticy" you didn't feel you could trust it to take your weight. Shame as everything else was perfect.
Review 60:Comfort of bar, deliciously cooked food served with a smile. Alex (car parker) most efficient, friendly and obliging - and trustworthy. Car was parked v well in small garage. Bed most excellent for comfort.
Review 61:Service in the Spa - but that's not really the fault of the hotel directly.
Review 62:friendly and professional staff - starting with reception and including the staff that help with the breakfast service
Review 63:The staff were extremely welcoming and have us the wifi code for all our devices. As the room wasn't ready when we arrived we were offered a free drink in the beautiful bar area. We used the spa facilities which was an extra cost but worth it after a long drive! We ate in the restaurant which was leisurely and delicious and the breakfast the next morning was plentiful and fresh. We slept well in a very comfortable bed and would recommend the hotel thoroughly.
Review 64:Only sitting out area is noisy and too close to traffic fumes.
Review 65:The staff - really friendly and professional at the same time. The restaurant - one Michelin star and well earned
Review 66:bathroom door wasnt a real door but more like a saloon bar door from a western film set, no prevacy at all. Brasserie - sat down at 8 and got main course at 9.30 and it was cold, manager said he had had too many people come into the restaurant that night and only had 2 waitresses on for over 70 covers, ended up cancelling the food and not being charged for it - recommendation is to go somewhere else
Review 67:bed
Review 68:All staff were extremely helpful & welcoming - no problem to set up a 5-bed room for us. We were travelling as 2 families, a group of 11 (4 adults; 7 children) in total. Your staff laid out dinner for us in the private dining room to allow us all to be together at no extra cost - great service.
Review 69:Parking a problem, particularly for dropping off luggage at busy times.
Review 70:Comfortable Hotel with beautiful rooms and good food Chartres itself was also a very pleasant surprise. We only came on a stop over on our journey to the South of France, but it turned out to be a highlight of our holiday. The city is beautiful and the light show was fantastic.
Review 71:The room was large, recently renovated and perfect for my family. We rented a family suite that had separate sitting room with a pull out sofa bed. Also the staff was fantastic. Lawrence who manages the front desk went above and beyond to ensure that we had a fantastic stay. She even helped with directions to Paris and printed out the best route that accounted for traffic and road conditions.
Review 72:we arrived very late due to traffic problems in the UK but the receptionist on our arrival could not have been more helpful, even ensuring that we had a meal Our room was excellent, a deluxe double and the breakfast was 'historic'!
Review 73:Well located, comfortable, modern bedroom facilities with old historic building grandeur, right next to the old historic part of the city. Car parking provided at a very reasonable daily fee.
Review 74:Not a bad experience but the garage is located off site and is not readily located.
Review 75:The rooms are well appointed and beautifully decorated. The spa is certainly worth a visit. The brasserie is good with a short but good wine list. There is the option of a Michelin Star restaurant. The location is excellent.
Review 76:Hotel was very well decorated. Very clean. Excellent food in restaurant. Located right next to old city car free zones area and minutes walk to Chartres Cathedral.
Review 77:Would like to have had an opportunity for my kids to use the pool.
Review 78:The location and service was excellent and the restaurant was superb. The atmosphere was also lovely.
Review 79:No airco I in lobby and restaurant, it was quite hot. Small bathroom. Parking little bit difficult
Review 80:Big beds, nice terrace, good breakfast and restaurant
Review 81:Lift very small, car parking instructions need to be stated as confusing, then in hindsight easy!!
Review 82:Staff are extremely polite and friendly, cannot do enough for you. Room and food lovely.
Review 83:Of our two rooms one was smaller with a/c and the other was larger without a/c. We had booked two rooms with a/c so were disapointed. Not a problem in winter but August not so good
Review 84:The staff were excellent as was the breakfast buffet
Review 85:Brasserie staff is not good. Appetizers and main we have heard that one may bring together. Of course we asked in order.
Review 86:Staff is very kind. Place is very good. We can go everywhere easily.
Review 87:We did not like the fact there was no pull in area in front of the hotel for unloading.we were told there would be round the side of he building but none was available. On check in and check out we almost had run ins with the local gendarmerie ! Not helpful .There would be space to creat a pull in with a little rearranging outside.
Review 88:A lovely hotel. We enjoyed the George restaurant and would look forward to dining there again.
Review 89:Parking is a challenge, hotel valet has a private parking somewhere.
Review 90:Good classic hotel in the heart of Chartres. Close to tourist attractions. Gourmet restaurant in hotel.
Review 91:Great hotel. 4 star says it all. An air conditioned French hotel in August is always a bonus. The Michelin star restaurant George's is located on site. This is my second time staying here and I'd do it again.
Review 92:Parking difficult partly because of roadworks, but helpful staff who moved car. Breakfast expensive.
Review 93:Room comfortable, bed very good and bathroom very fresh. Very central.
Review 94:off site valet car parking introduced some uncertainty but it was well and efficiently handled
Review 95:the location was terrific the brasserie (La Cour) was excellent
Review 96:Only problem was parking. Because the Saturday Marley was on we had to park about 200 meters away. This was a free car park and we were lucky to find a space. Also because we were only staying overnight we had only some hand luggage to carry and not our large cases.
Review 97:We hadn't been told in advance that we should have reserved car parking space. Eventually this was resolved, but not until we had been made to feel unwelcome. When we arrived we were told at first that the dining room (of 100 tables) was full. However, with a little persistence, it turned out that there was room in a smaller restaurant.
Review 98:The best thing was the location of the hotel, very near the cathedral.
Review 99:Parking could be easier but used the underground car park in the square which was fine. The hotel also appears to offer valet parking but we were late arrivals so it was not offered.
Review 100:We are regular travellers down to the South of France and always enjoy a break in the journey at the Grand Monarque because the staff are always friendly and go out of their way to help. The facilities are good and the hotel has a nice ambiance.
Review 101:The bathroom was a bit small
Review 102:This is an ideal hotel for exploring Chartres. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Absolutely no complaints The George 'gastronomique' restaurant was excellent, if a bit pricey
Review 103:Service in the bar after 6pm was non existent, despite having to go into the bar and order drinks for the outside seating area we still didn't get our drinks. If the barman/ waiter did venture out with an order, he turned round without making eye contact to check on customers needs. There were clearly not enough staff to cater for the bar & restaurant drinks from one station?
Review 104:Central location, breakfast had good choices.
Review 105:Car parking difficult, need to use the underground public car park which is expensive.
Review 106:Great location. Lovely warm welcome, very attentive ,helpful staff. Clean comfortable room
Review 107:The hotel had secure parking available for our bikes, a short distance from the main hotel entrance. Excellent location in the centre of town and not far from the cathedral.
Review 108:Awful food at the Gastronomic restaurant, all overpriced and pretentious, the so called frogs legs with (tandori) Indian spices and deep fried was a disgrace to such a restaurant, the sea food dish was also poor, very small portion of fish,
Review 109:Guest room was very good
Review 110:You must book for dinner. They were full but phoned round and found us a hotel nearby that could take us. Your car is valet parked , don't know where so you must take out all you need!
Review 111:Helpful staff, couldn't have made us more welcome. Helped store my wheelchair and provided easy access via staff entrance. High standard of cleanliness in all areas. Delicious breakfast, not cheap but worth the money. Included lots of smoked salmon! Can't wait to go back again and try out spa.
Review 112:We enjoyed everything about this charming hotel. It is close to the cathedral and the station, rooms are huge and extremely well appointed. Every detail is attended to in the best 4-star way.
Review 113:Aurore at the front desk ensured all our needs were met. The location of the hotel is excellent for a discovery of this beautiful city. Room was very comfortable.
Review 114:Tandem parking requires leaving key and someone damaged my rental car potentially costing me a couple thousand dollars. I recommend keeping key even if it results in an early wake up.
Review 115:Nice staff
Review 116:The bath was an odd shape, meaning you could not lean back. No ventilation in loo. Pool was small, and extra charge
Review 117:The hotel lounge, and breakfast room
Review 118:We had a wonderful stay here. They had a very comfortable bed with beautiful linen but this could have been improved by a better quality pillow and perhaps the option of feather pillows for guests who prefer them.
Review 119:The staff made you feel welcome all the time and no request was a problem. They went out of their way to help. The food whether it was in their dining room , bistro or room service was always outstanding and the best we have had in any hotel for many years. We loved the French decor and antique furniture.
Review 120:Very nice hotel in good position.Helpful staff. Deluxe room lovely and a very pleasant experience.would recommend. Nice restaurant and good breakfast.
Review 121:Parking is a little way from the hotel and not sure how secure it is at night. Wet room type shower with a shower curtain does not really work - kept sticking to body when trying to shower.
Review 122:Very pleasant and helpful staff. Clean room, good location and good breakfast
Review 123:Nothing was amiss!
Review 124:Pleasant staff, clean and very nice room with amenities and a nice restaurant. Easy access to the town area and the cathedral. Close to the train station to be able to roll luggage in and make it convenient for a day or two trip from Paris.
Review 125:Shuttle to CDG does not come frequently enough and is too long a route.....they should have their own pickup shuttle running frequently from the airport instead of relying on another bus service.
Review 126:All services were excellent
The Fine Print
