Reviews for Hôtellerie Saint Yves
Review 1:Almost impossible to find, which after a long days drive was stressful. Didn't believe other reviewers tales of not being able to find even with help of sat nav, but do now! Rooms are very small and basic with tiny capsule bathrooms.
Review 2:Beautiful looking building from outside very close to cathedral.
Review 3:The hotel is somewhat difficult to find by car. Maybe the hotel could provide a small explanation on its website?
Review 4:Very pleasant hotel next to the lovely cathedral
Review 5:The location was great. We only stayed one night to break up our return journey to the UK from the South of France. Wish we had booked a longer stay as we would have liked to have explored the city more. Lots of interesting shops and good bars/restaurants.
Review 6:No bad experiences
Review 7:3rd time I've stayed here so I know what to expect. The rooms are clean and comfortable with an atmosphere only a historic building can give. The 'continental' breakfast is good and overall you are unlikely to find better value for money in the centre of Chartres - and I've tried!
Review 8:Wasn't easy to find as bollards were up and wasn't clear that was the route in to the hotel.
Review 9:Nice clean warm room next to the Cathedral and in the City.
Review 10:The property is within easy walking distance of Chartres Cathedral. Its continental breakfast has good variety and quality. The building itself is historic, yet comfortable. The staff were very helpful.
Review 11:Access is tricky and sat nav did not work. One way roads did not show on system. Great car park but with a pet, I'd like to be assured a place.
Review 12:Close to centre of town. Historic building. Very comfortable.
Review 13:Nothing really. All was good but maybe the room size could be larger.
Review 14:Great location. Right in town and next to shops and restaurants. Very friendly staff. A delightful stay.
Review 15:Tricky to find if driving.
Review 16:Inside the old town, practically next door to the cathedral. Lovely view over the lower (newer) part of the city, especially in the morning fog. Very good breakfast. Safe parking, once the hotel is found.
Review 17:Access by car is very difficult - very very narrow roads - unless you have a small compact mini type car. Not somewhere I would choose as a base for touring in the area because of the access.
Review 18:Simple facilities but very clean. Great for a short stay & walking into the town within a few yards.
Review 19:It wasn't the hotel's fault, but there was an invasion of caterpillars that cause allergic reactions and we had to keep the windows shut. I think this happens one day a year. Not a problem rest of time. None came into hotel because everyone was careful.
Review 20:Everything about the hotel. It was next to the cathedral in an atmospheric building. Great view from window. Helpful staff. Room was perfect. Wished I was staying longer. Will stay there again.
Review 21:if you are travelling by car, contact the hotel before you travel and confirm the access route, we had such fun with our sat-nav !!
Review 22:superb location, amazing building full of history, great value, will go again.
Review 23:The description on website re how to find the hotel is a bit misleading - better to say to go round to the back of the cathredral on the right and follow the road down to the right. There is a sign on the wall on the way but we missed it.
Review 24:Great value in a very central location. Lovely staff on reception. Good breakfast.
Review 25:It was very difficult to find the hotel. A satnav could not get near it. We did not realise you had to go through a barrier marked no access and request bollars to be dropped to get into the catheral area.
Review 26:THE HOTEL IS IN A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING RIGHT NEXT TO THE CATHEDRAL.
Review 27:Weird pod bathroom in which it is difficult to keep anything dry
Review 28:Great location just next to the cathedral. Large well lit rooms with beds more comfortable than they look.
Review 29:Checkout time was 10am which seemed early. Bedding was old fashioned.
Review 30:The view out the window was excellent! The location was good and near everything.
Review 31:Nightmare to find due to road outside the hotel being dug up. SatNav couldn't cope and diversions were rubbish. Met an American couple who said they spent two hours in the city!
Review 32:Tranquillity, right in the old city, wonderful views, excellent breakfast, newly refurbished room, secure free parking.
Review 33:Very awkward to find but worth the effort.
Review 34:Really interesting place. Ex Monastery and feels like it but all adds to the experience here. Comfortable room. Good breakfast except for the fruit. Good WIFI. Excellent location right by the Cathedral.
Review 35:Would have liked BBC news channel - and of course parking - but it is unavoidable problem - and maybe a route map for bringing a car Into chartre -
Review 36:This is my second visit - location fantastic
Review 37:I thought the receptionist was a little "snippy".
Review 38:It was VERY close to the Cathedral to walk and see both the inside; and the night light show on the Cathedral.
Review 39:Nothing really.
Review 40:Location, location, location ! A short uphill walk to the Cathedral and the old city. Good breakfast. Clean facility. Interesting experience - do not expect luxury in this former dorm but it was very comfortable.
Review 41:Breakfast became rather chaotic when a large party all came in together - the room wasn't large enough!
Review 42:Fantastic central quiet location, friendly staff and lots of character.Much appreciated the free parking in the forecourt of the hotel as we were on the way home from our property in the South of France and had a car full!
Review 43:Getting to it by car is extremely difficult, signage not good and bollard not responsive to voice instructions so difficult, I had to get help.
Review 44:The location is excellent and the rooms are simple but adequate and clean. The lift was welcome. breakfast good. Parking a bonus.
Review 45:Very difficult to find. Although there is parking, it is a challenge to get into the parking lot. Staff had no empathy or tried to pretend that they cared. After a long drive and then opting to pay for parking because we couldn't find the hotel even with the GPS and then after finally finding the hotel on foot it would have been nice to have been shown a little empathy.
Review 46:The location is within easy walking distance to the cathedral and other attractions.
Review 47:I've stayed at this hotel the times and have never had a bad experience.
Review 48:Its proximity to the cathedral is a real plus. This hotel is clean and basic with great views of the city.
Review 49:The location was very convenient, near the cathedral. Given the map provided, it was not difficult to find, although I missed a turn initially. The staff was very friendly.
Review 50:I'll mention a few things I don't fault because of the cost being so low. The room was small, the bathroom was small and the buffet was basic.
Review 51:The location was amazing, 50 meters from the south side of the Cathedral. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Everything - the building, the view, etc.
Review 52:One way system made it very difficult to drive to the hotel. We had to park outside the central area and walk to the hotel. The receptionist then provided us with a street map and detailed instructions.
Review 53:Central location. Friendly staff.
Review 54:The hotel is very cheap so didn't expect too much. But free car parking is great. Rooms very small with a tiny en suite, but just needed a bed for the night after driving 500 miles. Breakfast & staff lovely. So was Chartres.
Review 55:Almost no food left at 9:30 in the breakfast room. Cleaning lady walking in our room at 09:00.
Review 56:Right in the middle of Chartres, with free parking space. Great!
Review 57:No tea and coffee making facility, but we knew this in advance, as well as the fact it was only a twin room on our wedding anniversary! Lol
Review 58:Was a great location, but getting there by car needed some pre planning! Very tight spot to turn into!
Review 59:Difficult to get there with the car, parking might be a problem during very busy times.
Review 60:location, a few steps from the cathedral. The building is charming!
Review 61:Do your homework in order to find this hotel. Study one way streets on Google maps. You only have to go through one bollard and it is lowered as soon as you speak into it to say where you're going.
Review 62:Car parking and central location.
Review 63:the room was too simple and small. the parking very dificult to arrive there. nobody inform us how to get there before and it took half hour at least to undestand how to get into parking.
Review 64:good location. beatiful building
Review 65:Direction map to enter pedestrian zone and hotel's parking area very unclear. Had trouble with street blockings and had to park at Tourist office while getting a Hotel staff member to come to vehicle and give directions.
Review 66:Location in old town pedestrian centre. Plenty of good restaurants nearby and historic sites in walking distance. Our rooms all had a view over Chartres to the river.
Review 67:I would suggest that you read the instructions regarding access to the hotel if arriving by car. It is in a pedestrian zone with bollard controlled access, which we didn't read until our third time round the town. Very narrow roads to the hotel, wouldn't want to try in a car bigger than a standard family car.
Review 68:The location in the town centre was excellent. At first the room seems to be a bit bare, no tv or tea making facilities but in reality these things are not needed on a city break and the hotel is in excellent position for restaurants in the town. The breakfast was good in a lovely room. The standard of cleanliness was excellent too.
Review 69:Check in was very slow as the two staff seemed to prioritise telephone enquiries over actual guests, but they were very helpful and welcoming on e the phone stopped ringing.
Review 70:The location is amazing, just round the corner from the cathedral and set in a pedestrian zone so it is very peaceful. (If you're a driver you press a button at the entrance to the pedestianised area and the security man drops the bollard so you can drive in). The rooms are small and simple and immaculately clean, likewise the bathrooms and the breakfast was very good, offering fruit, yoghurt, various breads, eggs, ham, cheese.
Review 71:Access to the area around the Cathedral was restricted with bollards which we had not been told about. However the manager was extremely helpful and came out to meet us at 3 in the morning to guide us to the hotel.
Review 72:Closeness to the Cathedral and all the shops.
Review 73:Was initially difficult to find, luckily a helpful French man saw us looking confused with our car and pointed us in the right direction. Once we knew where to go, the location was great.
Review 74:Very helpful and friendly staff, free parking, great central location, basic, clean room with a fantastic view over the city. The building is an old monastery so is lovely to look at. Chartres itself is a lovely town, worth a wander around of an evening, and plenty of places to eat and drink close to the hotel.
Review 75:breakfast overpriced. one very willing overworked waitress. food not put out for second sitting. proprietor had to help out but took a long time to appear. cash taken night before for breakfast otherwise I would have paid half the amount charged. easily the poorest breakfast in france this year. all our other stays in chambres d'hotes had much better breakfasts and atmosphere.
Review 76:view from room
Review 77:Reception is closed between noon and 2:00 pm.
Review 78:Location, the fact that the hotel is in a former monastery. Two minutes from the cathedral yet it is very quiet at night. One of the best quality to price ratio that I have seen in France.
Review 79:The location is the strongest point for that hotel - just a short (3 min) walk up the street and you are in front of the cathedral. When you are already satisfied with the sound and lights show the way home is very short...
Review 80:Delightful location right in the centre of town. Very close to restaurants and places of interest. Very good breakfast although staff a bit thin on the ground.
Review 81:No taxis or buses, limited reception hours
Review 82:Excellent value,:clean, excellent help - ito transport offered by manager to station- which ensured us getting special bus to next statuon
Review 83:The bathroom was tiny, more like a caravan shower. The real difficulty however, was in finding the place. To be fair, we had been warned by previous reviews, but we arrived on the day of a music festival and moving about within the town was impossible. Do not attempt to enter the confines of the pedestrian area until you are sure of where you need to be!
Review 84:Excellent position to view the town, charming hotel with superb breakfast.
Review 85:It's a bit out of the way, but if you enjoy being in a natural setting, the location can't be beat. The historical and religious significance of the nearby cave was an added plus. As far as the lodging goes, our room was simple, clean, and comfortable, including a newly remodeled bathroom. I would highly recommend dinner (good value, delicious home style meals), but would pass on breakfast if you're wanting more than bread, jam, juice, and coffee. The staff was also very friendly. The only negative aspect was the additional $5/per person surcharge for a one-night stay. Other than that, it's worth a visit.
Review 86:Getting there by car is a bit of a challenge. In the end it was simple: just drive up your car close to the barrier, step out and push the top button. A friendly policeman opens the barrier if you tell him that you are a hotel guest.
Review 87:Location of the hotel is perfect. So is the character of the building.
Review 88:Every thing . No warning is given regarding the restricted roads, to get a car to the hotel car park you need to get police permission to lower the bollards, this can take 30 minutes , the hotel bedrooms and the rest of the building are like a boarding school, not what we expected on a holiday, we are not back packers, we would not return even if they paid us
Review 89:The city,
Review 90:The access directions which were non existent. The bollards which blocked our entrance from all ways. And the one way streets which were like negotiating a labyrinth.a wonderful
Review 91:The spiritual aspect of the premises. The chapel and the peacefulness of the place
Review 92:Difficult to find by car. Needs clearer instructions/map on booking
Review 93:Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Room was basic but clean and perfectly adequate for one night.
Review 94:Finding the hotel is difficult since the town planners have not given adequate signs to allow people from elsewhere to find their way around and many areas are limited access or pedestrianised, pedestrian crossings are just stone not the normal black and white do pedestrians just walk out!!!
Review 95:The building and the service for the price is good, it supplies what is necessary.
Review 96:Nothing to complain about.
Review 97:Brilliant location, just below the cathedral, with good views from the room. Free car parking was a bonus. Excellent value for money
Review 98:Impossible to reach by car. Should provide detailed map of the city with the right access points to the restricted area it is situated and not sketch of the two streets around the hotel. Called them three times to get direction but nobody answered. Staff at check-in very unfriendly.
Review 99:The only difficulty was in finding the Hotellerie by car, because my satnav was a bit late in telling me to turn right, and I missed turns three times and ended up driving through lots of narrow cobbled streets for 20 mins! Did eventually find it.
Review 100:Very good position. Nice atmosphere
Review 101:Extremely difficult to get to by car, shower was a little on the small side, but still quite serviceable. We were not impressed with one of the female managers, she was very snippy and showed very little patience with the guests. However, she was the exception, as the others were very helpful.
Review 102:Generally speaking, the staff were very friendly and helpful. While the rooms are a little on the basic side, they were clean and comfortable (after all, it WAS a monastery)
Review 103:Hotel great. Chartres is an old city and some drivers may find it a little challenging.
Review 104:150m from Cathedral, free parking, helpful friendly staff, quiet rooms some with lovely new bathrooms. Very comfortable beds.
Review 105:Parking difficult to reach. Special permission needed to enter the car free zone in which the hotel is situated.
Review 106:The ancient building and style of the hotel. Its location near the centre of Chartre.
Review 107:Very difficult to reach. Hotel needs to explain the easiest way to reach itself. It is in a pedestrianised area which is a nightmare to reach, with little help from the police who you have to contact for access.
Review 108:Location once found, hotel style, parking
Review 109:Direct online booking with the hotel was slow (no response for 2 days)booked with booking.com for immediate reservation and confirmation and aprice discount.
Review 110:My second stay at this hotel with very comfortable rooms in an historicbuilding next to the cathedral and gardens---highly recommend!!
Review 111:Had difficulty locating the hostellers and feel that a map and some advice on getting there would be useful
Review 112:Central location in an interesting place. Most things in walking distance
Review 113:Driving up through the maze of streets, was a bit of a nightmare......a good guide to doing this right could & should be produced and regularly updated by the hotel.....sat navs just cant cope with the numeous no entry signs and electronic bollards !
Review 114:Sympathetically restored old stone seminary with up to the minute facilities and clean minimalist styling. Very convenient for the Cathedral, the other monuments and very good cafe's & restaurants in the vicinty.
Review 115:Automatic bollards make it impossible to access the hotel by car if you don't know the system. The fact you have to speak to local police via intercom at bollards to gain access should be prominently displayed on booking/conformation form.
Review 116:Always stay here when in Chartres. If you can access it, you'll have a good stay.
Review 117:The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms spacious and warm and the building itself is filled with amazing architectural features. The breakfasts offer a wide choice in the crypt.
Review 118:Anyone driving to the hotel for the first time really would benefit from detailed directions on how to find their way up throuigh the winding and narrow roads of the oneway system.
Review 119:Convenient for the old city centre, its restaurants and of course the Cathedral. A wonderful view from the room, from an historic building. Room was clean, dry and warm with excellent shower and bathroom.
Review 120:Not bad really - just surprised things like a hair drier not provided.
Review 121:Location and ambience - tricky to find through the barriers protecting the streets around the cathedral but well worth the patience (and french police directions!) - satnav or good prior checking beneficial.
Review 122:In spite of having a GPS, we had great difficulty in finding the hostel by car. We were not aware if there was any map on-line with directions to get there.
Review 123:Comfortable, clean, warm and quiet, in a beautiful, central setting, with good breakfasts.
Review 124:The location was ideal, very central, and the parking was straight forward. The room was clean and comfy enough. We only stayed one night but for that short length of time everything was fine.
Review 125:Nothing!
Review 126:We would never stay anywhere else in Chartres as this basic hotel caters for all our needs. It is extremely near the cathedral; secure parking within the city; very pet friendly and near all the City amenities. Book early to avoid disappointment.
Review 127:The roads within the predominantly pedestrian old town are very narrow, especially for our 3.5 tonne van, but should not present any problems for a normal car
Review 128:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The hotel is 150 metres from the Cathedral, and only 200 metres from the centre of old Chartres, with an excellent selection of restaurants and bars.
Review 129:Tea making facilities in the room would be a real bonus
Review 130:Proximity to town centre/cathedral Quietness of the Hotellerie Good parking Warmth of the welcome & helpfulness of the staff
Review 131:The wifi wasn't working when we first arrived but came back on board later on. The shower cubicle was extremely small. It's a pity that there are few features in the building that tell of its age.
Review 132:The location was fabulous for walking but tricky to drive into (you have to speak into an intercom at the entrance to the pedestrian zone and there were lots of people around who didn't expect to have to get out of the way for a car!). The rooms were small and simple, with single beds, but the view and location could not be better. It was just a few metres to the cathedral. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and had excellent English. The breakfast was simple but fine.
Review 133:Very difficult to find Bathroom needs a few repairs.
Review 134:Right in the middle of the old historic town. Hotel staff very welcoming. Excellent value for money. Good choice and selection of breakfast in a beautiful area.
Review 135:Check in time was 2 p.m., but staff did not come and open the office until well after 2.30. Internet became so slow as to not function in the evening.
Review 136:Cleanliness, parking, security. Breakfast area was well equipped and had friendly helpful staff.
Review 137:No hairdryer in bathroom - but anyway, the reception gave us one. No kettle - but the kitchen offered me hot water, really helpful.
Review 138:Location, very close to the Cathedral. Staff are very nice and helpful. Lovely room with great view. Great value.
Review 139:Nothing.
Review 140:I have stayed here many times. The beauty of being somewhere that was once a religious house is that it is simple, peaceful and warm in winter. Its location near the cathedral together with the friendly staff (with excellent English), nice warm rooms with spare pillows, make this an ideal place to stay. Access is challenging but easier if you abandon the satnav and use a printout of the town's one-way streets instead, There is also three-point turn to get into the hotel but it is quite easy as the road is quiet. The breakfast is a little expensive but the choice on offer is enormous and still good value. Highly recommended!
