Reviews for Le Parvis
Review 1:This is a very old building and the facilities are a bit funky. If you like modern hotels, this is not it. We loved it!
Review 2:Location - our window was so close to the cathedral that we could not come close to getting it all in a camera shot. The staff was helpful and hardworking, the breakfast was large and good, the room was quirky and charming and the restaurant quite good. There is even a cool jazz club in the cellar - so well insulated you can't hear even a hint of it in the room.
Review 3:Accommodation Is very convenient, opposite cathedral, and walking distance to everything. Staff were all helpful and the outlook from our room was good.
Review 4:Difficulty finding our way around the one way system to locate Le Parvis best to park at the cathedral and ask the way.
Review 5:Having a car park within walking distance was ideal. Beautiful place. Would liked to have stayed another night. Helpful and polite staff. Thank you to the lovely gentleman that served us breakfast. The light show was beautiful as was the cathedral a must see.
Review 6:Wonderful greeting when we arrived by Elise, who despite having a bad cold, insisted on carrying our bags to the room. The room itself was quite unique and the most wonderful venue for a brief visit to Chartres. We could not believe the proximity to The Cathedral, which was amazing. Thoroughly recommend if you are looking for something that is different.
Review 7:One hotel contact was grumpy via email, possibly the same person who was grumpy in person. Everyone else was pleasant. Food at restaurant was mediocre. Couples are expected to eat small tables for 2, which is customary in many restaurants and cafes. This place has narrow stairs and many levels; fine for us, though could be challenging for people with bad knew, hips, etc.
Review 8:We booked the Les Louis room, which exceeded our expectations. Large windows (that open!) are across a very narrow pedestrian street from the cathedral, so the view is terrific. Spacious suite with large sitting room and separate bedroom, lovely modern bathroom. Antique style furnishings, yet TV, wifi, bedside lights, lots of nice touches--even candies. Free, secure, covered parking is 2 very short blocks away, with excellent directions (in writing, in English). Person who showed us to our room took our luggage up the stairs and was very customer-service oriented. Easy and fun to go to the evening illuminations at the cathedral and other sites, which were more interested than expected.
Review 9:Visitors should know that the Cathedral is undergoing extensive renovation likely to last late into 2016 and that the Labyrinth in the Cathedral will be covered by chairs until then too.
Review 10:Hotel Parvis is probably the closest accommodation you can get to Chartres Cathedral [ 50 metres from the entrance]. At night we could watch the light show from our bedroom window! The Louis Room in the hotel is great and a generous continental breakfast was included. Great value for money.
Review 11:The staff we met were all friendly and very helpful which made us feel at home. Having the cathedral right on the doorstep and yet peaceful and quiet as well as quaint. A happy memory to recall.
Review 12:We loved our room, with wonderful traditional French windows looking onto the cathedral. We loved the stylish, authentic and relaxed ambience - exactly what you think of when you dream of a stay in France. We loved the food and relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant
Review 13:Finding our way from the parking lot to the garage. Having little room to park the car to unload bags. However, we understand that there is no way around this considering the hotel location and narrow streets.
Review 14:Wonderful location across from the cathedral. Provided breakfast in our room to aid us in getting an early start in traveling.
Review 15:You cant find a better location if your day (or days) are going to be spent in or near the Cathedral. The is very friendly and helpful. Very nice breakfast each morning.
Review 16:Perfect central location. Great atmosphere. Helpful genial and extremely obliging staff The Cathedral next door and coinciding with 'Chartres en Lumieres'
Review 17:My cousin and I arrived at a very busy time, but the owner took time to show me where I could park my car. The room was excellent with a fabulous view of the cathedral.
Review 18:We arranged three weeks before the stay for an early check in (9.00) and this was confirmed both by the hotel and Booking.Com. On arrival we were told that this was not the case and our enquiry allowed us only to leave bags in reception!! After insistence from us, a room was found with a lot of tutting and very little grace. It was a pity because the hotel is a good place to stay and, as everybody says, the location is sensational.
Review 19:Wonderful location, great breakfast, fascinating room (although needed a bit of a 'freshening' - a bit too shabby, not enough chic).
Review 20:No complaints
Review 21:The location is superb, two steps away from the cathedral, the staff is very friendly, the rooms in this very old house are very cleverly arranged.
Review 22:A challenge to find the right route in!
Review 23:Great location within stone's throw of cathedral. Lovely eclectic rooms with plenty of space and period furniture. Good dinner, excellent breakfast including charcuterie, cheese and yogurt. Friendly welcome.
Review 24:Leaving!
Review 25:Great welcome. Relaxed atmosphere. Food was good value and delicious. Location was perfect. The room was beautiful comfortable and spacious. Service was really good.
Review 26:We were only there one night!
Review 27:The very positive and friendly attitude of the staff. The location can't be beat & the building(and our room - Henry IV) has a lot of charm - a very pleasant stay.
Review 28:great location, really unusual hotel, somewhat quirky, great bathroom. No real lobby, parking available at nearby underground parking lot. It was right next to the Cathedral
Review 29:The location of this B&B (really several rooms on top of a delicious restaurant and a cool nightclub in the "cave" or basement) is really unbeatable, and our hosts Amélie and Guillaume were so friendly and fun and funny. The rooms were wonderful and interesting and comfortable, with views (from the sitting rooms) looking right out at that gothic facade (and the bedrooms facing away from the busy side). We didn't hear any noise from the nightclub or restaurant (which closed at 10 anyway), but we definitely had a very good alarm: the bells of the cathedral at 8am are a very impressive way to get woken up! :-)
Review 30:No space for putting toiletries bad in bath room. Please give us a little shelf or something! No breakfast available at 7.30 AM. So they kindly prepared some stuff for us the evening before in our room. But the mini fridge didn't work so all was gooey, cheese sweating:-(( Also they forgot forks & knives... For 135 euros I'd expect a real, readily served breakfast. Eating it in the room was also unpractical bcs only I tiny small coffee table. But they are very kind & cooperative. So we'll try it again next time, hopefully in the Henri IV room!
Review 31:The kindness of owners & staff.
Review 32:Just the one night's stay and the location is brilliant - immediately adjacent to the cathedral and a few steps from a choice of good restaurants. Friendly service too. Room is plenty big enough and aircon a bonus.Very handy to be able to park (free) a short walk from the hotel.
Review 33:location is really fantastic - right in the centre of the city and easy for walking to all attractions. Restaurant at hotel is good value and jazz adds to the evening. We were given some very helpful advice on what to see -Chartres is lovely and very welcoming to tourists- we particulary enjoyed seeing the light show which is free!
Review 34:The location near the Cathedral and its lumières was great, though initially hard to find. The staff were really helpful with the parking. Distinct character worked for us!
Review 35:Amazing stay at Le Parvis in a wonderful room overlooking the Cathedral. Everything excellent, including delicious dinner and extremely welcoming staff/owners. Pet friendly a huge added plus. Will definitely aim to stay here again.
Review 36:The staff were friendly and really efficient and helpful. The location is superb and our room was really tastefully decorated with a fabulous bath where you can lie back and gaze at the stars. The age of the hotel is part of its charm but it doesn't have a lift to the top floor (3rd). It didn't affect us as the staff happily carried our suitcases up for us.
Review 37:It was a delightful, quirky hotel/bar/restaurant with individually designed rooms, adjacent to the cathedral. The owners were friendly, helpful and fun.We loved the medieval "feel" of the place but also appreciated the very up to date plumbing!! The inclusive continental breakfast was excellent.
Review 38:We arrived late on a Saturday night , courtesy of Eurotunnel. They were very busy but we were shown to our room, free parking was organised and then we were fed and watered. The ideal end to a long day. Friendly and keen to please. Right next to the cathedral and lovely room. We will be making this a regular stop.
Review 39:We had a wonderful stay. Élise was extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel very comfortable. The location was perfect for us because we came to Chartres for the light show, and the main cathedral was just outside our window. Our room was clean, spacious, and nicely decorated. We unfortunately didn't have time to sit down for breakfast in the morning, but Élise gave us pastries and juice to take on the train. I would highly recommend staying here, everything was lovely!
Review 40:Two flights of steps, spiral and a bit difficult, no lift.
Review 41:Excellent location, lovely bedroom/suite with fridge, tea/coffee making and free soft drinks car parking voucher but car park not on site.
Review 42:Nothing really. Decor and atmosphere of dining room. Free parking but away from site.
Review 43:Fantastic location next to Cathedral, quirky bedroom with its own sitting room. Comfortable bed. Light show in Chartres at 10pm fantastic!
Review 44:Nothing. There are stairs to climb, but we were helped with our luggage.
Review 45:Location! It was perfect for walking around Chartres and seeing the light show late at night. Elise was very helpful, and everyone at the hotel was very friendly. They sent good directions for driving to the hotel, and parking was free and secure. Dinner was one of the best we had in France.
Review 46:Glad to miss the karaoke in cellar bar.
Review 47:Les Louis is a lovely suite. refurbished old style rooms, even with modern acrylic tables in old style to match surroundings. Sent us an excellent map and instructions for access to old town, and to free parking underground.
Review 48:Right beside the cathedral! Gorgeous food for dinner so definitely eat there if you visit - and breakfast was good - warm croissants, pan au chocolat, fruit, yoghurt etc. A very stylish room with a comfortable round bed, seating area, air conditioning and a fab shower with coloured lights. Make sure you stop outside briefly to drop off your bags and get a parking ticket so you can park in the cathedral car park around the corner for free. Don't go to the car park first - you need to have their ticket with you.
Review 49:Service of dinner on second night was slow due to number of diners at the hotel and only 2 or 3 staff but as we were not in any hurry to leave it was not a great problem.
Review 50:Secure car parking nearby, central location and very helpful owners who speak very good english. Food was tasty and not over priced
Review 51:Nothing! The room was lovely with excellent atmosphere. There was no elevator which might matter to some.
Review 52:The location was unbelievable! The breakfasts were delightful. Elise was the perfect hostess.
Review 53:Nothing, only leaving
Review 54:Hotel is perfect for a visit to Chartres, 3mins from Cathedral, walking distance from all points of interest, good restaurants, the hotels is pretty good, but you want probably greater variety. Rooms are well appointed, if you want clinical go to a Campanile, comfort, quirky, owners on site(friendly, helpful) their staff could not be more helpfull, another cup of coffee at breakfast if you wish. car parking (public secure) within 5 mins and free. Make note height limit is 1.80m, My LR Discovery had to lower suspension!! Very Rapidly!! A terric place to stay, we live in France and we will be back
Review 55:Not that I disliked this aspect per se, - it is just a reflection of the location to be aware of - but driving into the parking place is a challenge if you have a large car. However the patron was very helpful in guiding me into it and getting me out again!
Review 56:Location.....that's what sells houses and also what should attract you to this Chambre D'Hotel. It would be hard to be closer to the Chartres Cathedral and all the buzz of the centre. We were fortunate to be there during a music festival, a half marathon and some other events. The place was electric. The light show on the cathedral is well worth waiting for nightfall to see. But, as for the hotel - the owner speaks very good English, is genuinely helpful and clearly enjoys being a host. We had our bikes with us and he very graciously kept them secure for us overnight in the hotel. We were only there for one night to break a long drive from the South back to the UK so we took the evening to take in Chartres, so we didn't eat there but it looked really good and was heaving with diners so that should tell you something. We had the attic room (Anges) which is decked out to an angel theme. Great room, comfortable bed, great views. We have broken the journey to and from the South of France many times and this was by far the best place we have stayed. It will be our go-to place from now on.
Review 57:Locating the Hotel in a very complex, one way system proved a challenge but free parking is available in nearby secure facility.
Review 58:Located in the cathedral square so accessible to all facilities. Very individual and refreshingly decorated room with views over the square. Evening meal was nice in the restaurant.
Review 59:Muy mal wi fi en la habitación. Ni mesillas de noche ni lamparitas para leer (hab. Bleue). El personal solo habla francés. No ascensor. A uno de los dos nos ayudaron con el maletón que llevabamos, al salir cada uno cargó con su equipaje.. Era el primer piso pero es un tema a tener en cuenta si vas con maleta pesada.
Review 60:ubicación, decoración con gusto, limpieza
Review 61:one pillow was a bit hard (but that's a minor issue)
Review 62:location, funky room, good use of space, nice breakfast, friendly hosts. Not luxury, but very comfortable, roomy (for France) and with a lovely atmosphere
Review 63:Just a recommendation for more lighting in the bathroom.
Review 64:Being able to see Chartres Cathedral from our sitting room was surreal. The shower lends a sense of being in a spa.
Review 65:Because of the road construction, we obeyed the sign that said Barre. You should drive thru that sign and make the right just before the construction. Follow their advice to park on Cheval Blanc street to drop your luggage off. June 2015
Review 66:The food at the hotel is a bargain if you like brasserie-type food. Plat and entree was 12 euro when we were there - entrée was a fish terrine and plat was beef cheeks in red wine with pureed carrots. One plat was lasagna and salad that we had for lunch. House wine was good and cheap.
Review 67:We loved our stay at Le Parvis. So close to everything and very helpful owner and staff. We were able to walk from train to the Hotel. The restaurant within the Hotel was great and they even had a celler with a live band .
Review 68:We were very warmly welcomed and given extremely helpful information to enable us to make the most of our short stay. Although there is no parking at the hotel, they provide free parking at a nearby public carpark. The hotel is in the most fantastic position by Chartres Cathedral but surprisingly very quiet at night.
Review 69:Located only a few steps down the road from Chartres Cathedral, this hotel has an outdoor cafe, full indoor restaurant, and entertainment. The rooms are upstairs and each is unique. We enjoyed having our own entrance and exit. A delicious and very large breakfast was included in the room rate. I inquired about the lovely scarves that were on display on the wall. Then we discovered that the lady owner gives the proceeds to the crafters in Senegal when she sells them. Impressive! We bought two scarves and love them. Because of a festival, taxis were not available when we left, so the male owner cheerfully helped us carry our suitcases to the train station. We are so glad Booking.com carries this hotel because we would not have found it otherwise. We'll stay here again when we return.
Review 70:Difficulty parking/dropping luggage with road closures at present. Old satnav didn't help.
Review 71:Brilliant access to Chartres cathedral and son-et-lumiere
Review 72:Road works outside meant unloading luggage was stressful. Streets of Chartres very narrow.
Review 73:Lovely room. Cathedral on doorstep literally. Welcomed dogs and happy for them to be with us when we dined. Managed to cope with our gluten free dietary requirements.
Review 74:Can't think of anything to criticise!
Review 75:We enjoyed being so close to the wonderful Cathedral. Friendly staff, a comfortable room and excellent food. Our second stay here.
Review 76:There is no attendant at night, owner fixes breakfast and arrives at lodging at 8 AM or after. We weren't informed about breakfast time and had already bought breakfast by the time owner arrived. Property is aged, which has its charm and its disadvantages. A bit overpriced for what it offers.
Review 77:Owner and staff very helpful. Location great.
Review 78:Sloppy cleaning & maintenance (greasy cups, saucers & spoons, sooo many dust ballS right under bedside table, door knob hanging lose, drapery off hooks...) keeps this hotel from being positioned as romantic or luxurious, while its pricing (due to its prime location) is well above average.
Review 79:Great location right next to cathedral, plenty of cafes & restaurants in the vicinity, tea & coffee making facilities and minibar for light refreshment in room.
Review 80:The location is perfect right beside the Cathedral the service friendly and the rooms clean and comfortable. A great place to explore this lovely town.
Review 81:wifi a little funky
Review 82:the hotel room was incredibly charming and quirky. We has a view of the beautiful Chartres Chapel. The light show was amazing. Lots of restaurants and cafes open early and late
Review 83:This was our second stay at le Parvis Staff Very organised ,on arrival car park ticket given . 3 min walk to secure car park, excellent meal in restaurant and lovely breakfast.
Review 84:No elevator. Our very cute and atmospheric room tucked away on the top floor is reached via a LOT of curving steps. Not for those with mobility issues. We could not have managed our luggage but the staff helped and it was okay.
Review 85:The breakfast! Best of all on our 3 week trip. Helpful staff. Waking at dawn to see the cathedral in all its glory out our window. Looking out at night with nary a tourist group in sight. Great staff. Delightful cozy decor.
Review 86:Due to the old medieval streets, the hotel can be difficult to find via car.
Review 87:The location is excellent and the staff are very friendly & accommodating. You are just steps from the light show at the Cathedral. Everything is within good walking distance.
Review 88:Everything ; its charm elegance friendilness location next one of the most impressive cathedrals and bisops palace and beautifully kept gardens are a hymn to french taste.
Review 89:Nothing - but the staircases might be a problem for some.
Review 90:Friendly staff, good food, situation right next to the cathedral. Very good to be able to view the light displays at night.
Review 91:Nothing
Review 92:Incredibly comfortable and charming; quirky rooms and the cathedral walls almost within touching distance. Kind and helpful hosts, we loved it! (And the bells are silenced from 8 till 8!).
Review 93:- Only one minor improvement, possibly: curtain in room 'les Louis' could be improved to block better the light from outside. Did not prevent us to sleep well ;)
Review 94:- Friendly welcome - Location at the cathedral doorstep - Big rooms with style & comfort - Restaurant if you need it, disco/party also !
Review 95:Not a no like, but it was a pitty that teh restaurant was closed on Sunday evening
Review 96:The hotel is charming, staff were very friendly and helpfull and room was surprisingly good ( not standard at all)
Review 97:Bed was round (unique) but less than comfortable.
Review 98:Beautifully set on the cathedral square with a view of the cathedral from our window. Warm welcome and care by the proprietor.
Review 99:The burners in the kitchenette didn't work, but we weren't expecting a kitchenette so it wasn't a problem.
Review 100:The location can't be beat, the breakfast was very nice, the bed very comfortable, and the room was well-equipped. The staff was kind too - we didn't want to leave!
Review 101:The deviation while we were in Chartres made the approach somewhat hairy, but not foreseeable! Exc to have sat nav guidance which, but for the route barree when we arrived, would have been perfect.
Review 102:Loved the situation of the hotel right opp Chartres cathedral ... unbeatable. The room was unique and had great appeal. The restaurant really impressed.
Review 103:We had a little problem with the shower douche. We didn’t have hot water at night, but in the other day was just fine.
Review 104:The room is very nice and confortable. Great location.
Review 105:that the outdoor key also does match to other rooms (so we go a nice surprise - at least I had to laugh - not the other person ... -:))
Review 106:Very friendly & discrete staff !! High flexibility with the food I ordered
Review 107:We had a cathedral view from our window. Restaurant was great--outdoor dining on cathedral plaza. Try the beef cheeks--best thing we ate in France. Easy to go out at night to see the Illumination.
Review 108:We were so pleased to be able to stay in a charming hotel so close to the cathedral! Our room included a sitting room that made us think we were in quarters Marie Antointette would approve!
Review 109:Nil
Review 110:Easy walking distance from rail station, the B&B's position is central to city centre right next to Chartres Cathedral , Le Parvis has a world class French restaurant, rooms and bathroom are very comfortable and clean. French style traditional Breakfast with fresh delicious produce. The perfect place to stay in Chartres
Review 111:Breakfast was mediocre too much bread and pastry, cheese and meat, but only prunes and dried apricots for fruit. Our room was not very clean (doubt that the rug had ever been washed) and decor was not our taste at all. Had to keep the toilet door open to block the streetlight that shone in through the very dirty blinds that did not work.
Review 112:Location was great and Elise was very helpful. Linens were clean. Shower was good. Quiet when we were there.
Review 113:Woken by bar noise outside but were assured that this is VERY unusual. We spoke to a couple of other guests at breakfast who had been at the hotel for a couple of nights) and they confirmed that this was the first time they had been disturbed so guess that we were unlucky.
Review 114:Quirky accommodation overlooking the Cathedral. Warm welcome from owner who showed us to our room and then showed us where to park (free). Excellent range of restaurants within walking distance.
Review 115:Can't think of anything.
Review 116:Great access to the cathedral and location overall, outdoor cafe with a Friday night jazz guitar, very accommodating and helpful host. Perfect spot from which to explore an enchanting city-especially during illumination.
Review 117:We were "greeted" by a younger man, but thankfully came across the owner/manager later on for a better experience. Guess you either love or hate this type of establishment. We had a quirky room (Penelope) on the second floor, with a round bed. It looked as though the room had been tricked out 10+ years ago and not properly cleaned or maintained since. Things like bits of broken fittings knocking around, old splashes up the bathroom walls, toilet door with screw closer, grey "white" duvet cover etc. tell the tale. The breakfast was on the one hand very good, on the other poor. It was served to your table, included nice cheeses and cooked meats and tasty jams, but the easy bit of serving fresh baguette and croissant failed badly. They were frozen/microwaved I would bet a dollar on it. The price was presumably commensurate with staying somewhere next to the fabulous Catherdral. Anywhere else, and I'd have said it was at least 25% overpriced.
Review 118:Location in centre of Chartres. Included car parking in the u/g central multi level. Part of the breakfast! Fridge in room.
Review 119:Very uncomfortable pillows - had to swap for one of the cushions off the sofa in order to get a reasonable nights sleep. Couldn't find TV remote and noisy bathroom fan stayed on for over 30 minutes after light was turned off. I picked my suitcase off the floor only to find a huge hank of someone else's long hair attached to it!
Review 120:We were made very welcome by the owner and enjoyed questioning her about the history of the building. The bedroom was very old and quirky and different from anywhere we've stayed before. The view of the cathedral from our bedroom window couldn't be rivalled and we enjoyed the gentle sound of the bells. The food was good and was accompanied by live jazz.
Review 121:Though the bath had a jacuzzi and a hand held shower, if we had been staying for more than one night I think I would have pined for a proper shower.
Review 122:The hotel is right next to the cathedral, exactly where you want to be, and offers free parking in the main car park of the cathedral zone. The rooms have a lot of character and are a generous size. Breakfast was good.
Review 123:i think maybe guests should be warned that there is no lift to the top floor.
Review 124:I particularly liked the central location. On the one side of the property is the old quarter and on the other the Cathedral. I liked the historic nature of the accommodation and the sympathetic restoration and very tasteful interior decorations. Dinner was delicious and the staff all extremely friendly.
The Fine Print
If arriving by car, you must drive to 5 rue du Cheval Blanc (also for GPS satellite) and leave your vehicle on the roadway a few feet from the establishment. The proprietors will explain where to park your vehicle.
