Reviews for Parador de Olite

Review 1:Beautiful decor and furnishings. We had booked to stay in original part and the room was wonderful. Enjoyed an excellent meal in evening for only 29 euros, super value. Wine not expensive either. Nice bar for pre dinner drinks. Plenty of parking, only a two minute walk away. Drop off point outside front door.

Review 2:Having stayed in many paradors, we found the room not up to their usual high standards. The room and bathroom were cramped. The furniture was chipped and the walls were thin. The flooring was Lino made to look like wood. Sorry to be so negative but that is how it was.

Review 3:Good location

Review 4:There was no balcony. Our window was facing the middle of the building and no view. I wish we could choose the room with view.

Review 5:I liked the interior decoration. We really felt like living in a castle. The staff was very helpful as well. Dinner was so delicious!

Review 6:A room with incredibly squeaky floors and creaky doors. We felt sorry for the occupants of the room below us

Review 7:Location - very interesting town to visit, ambience. Architecture in restaurant - has wow factor.

Review 8:The evening meal was poor. Staff were not well trained or knowledgeable. The steak was undercooked and other dishes ordinary.

Review 9:Loved the building, decor and environment.

Review 10:This hotel is tired - threadbare carpets on the stairs, lamps hanging at odd angles in the bedroom, bathroom shabby. It did not stand up well against many others we visited and we are inclined to give Paradors a miss from now on!

Review 11:Excellent location. Nice communal areas in the historic section.

Review 12:Dinner was not terribly good (not nearly as good as parador Soria we stayed in a few days earlier) Breakfast OK, but waiting staff not very attentive, and bordering on the surly

Review 13:Wonderful ambience

Review 14:Bathroom was ridiculously tiny, one of the smallest I've ever had in any Parador property. They turned off the a/c at night and it was stuffy. Nice porch with seating but too hot to use (a/c did not extend to porch). Seemed overpriced; I felt like I must be missing something. Parking was a pain, away at a crowded town lot.

Review 15:Interesting property. Wifi good. Nice dining area and a couple of public areas.A/c worked well during the day. Nice staff.

Review 16:The furnishings in the room were fabulous, it had a huge Inglenook fireplace and a bathroom to die for. Very polite, helpful staff and a lovely little town to explore. Fairytale castles and lovely local bars and restaurants made it definitely one to remember.

Review 17:I could find nothing at all to dislike.

Review 18:A stunning Parador, full of atmosphere and history as you would expect - but with all the convenience of modern hotel living. We had a wonderful four poster room with a huge bathroom and lounge area. The staff were excellent and the restaurant and food were impeccable. Great value for money too. A truly memorable stay in a lovely place.

Review 19:From entering the walled city to seeing the Parador/ Castle for the 1st time, we knew we made the right decision to stay here. Olite is a small town for sure, but very enjoyable from the square in the town center with families enjoying the early evening to the lunch on the plaza. The rooms were well maintained and extremely quiet - felt like you were there by yourself. We had a room in the original building with the original castle walls exposed. Very impressed with the interior which included suits of armor and torch like lights on the walls. Definitely would stay again.

Review 20:Food was expensive with sadly little in the way of other eatery options locally at the time we were there

Review 21:The facilities throughout the hotel were very good

Review 22:The rooms were too warm and we couldn't open the windows. We went into the town for both breakfast and dinner to find simpler and cheaper food options than offered in the hotel.

Review 23:The location is amazing, beautiful historic town. Glassed in balconies in the rooms to take in the view.

Review 24:Lengthy check in procedure Pricey breakfast (18 euro each)

Review 25:Location is superb Building is awesome Room very nicely decorated in period style Friendly staff Restaurant food

Review 26:As in most of Spain, the wait staff is un-attentive and service is poor. Other than service, everything was spectacular. Highly recommended!

Review 27:Location is unbeatable, next to a magnificent castle and town. 45 minutes to Pamplona and many small towns. Our favorite stay in all of Spain! (We've stayed in 30+ Paradores). Christmas dinner was spectacular, and very affordable!

Review 28:Didn't understand that this hotel has NO parking available. While I did read many reviews; somehow I didn't pickup on this. You need to drive into the walled city, pull up in a 20 minute loading zone, empty your car and then relocate your car to a public parking lot outside of the walled city. It is a ten minute walk back to the hotel from the parking lot.

Review 29:Staff and facilities were excellent. Room was unique and comfortable. It opened up to a unique outdoor terrace which served good purpose in that we needed to open windows during the night to cool the room during the winter. Common facilities are decorated superbly and it was a pleasure to stay here. Staff was helpful. Desk staff spoke English, bar staff did not. Town is unique and fun to explore.

Review 30:Little bit far from Pamplona. (but it's acceptable)

Review 31:Amazing atomosphere! Never experienced fasility. Even small furniture, I feel real history. Impressed. Price is unbelivable. (so cheap)

Review 32:I found the check in staff very helpful and pleasant. The restaurant staff we encountered were not very nice. The food at the restaurant was just average.

Review 33:Great location and a lovely little town.

Review 34:The staff in the evening restaurant were not helpful and not friendly. The food was okay but no more. The breakfast vastly overpriced.

Review 35:The staff at the front desk were excellent.

Review 36:Thin walls. Room next door was banging on the wall while I was on the phone ... We were in the newer portion of the building

Review 37:Small town and not the usual experience you'll get from a tour

Review 38:Parking was a few minutes walk away from the hotel but you are able to park on the square long enough to drop your bags off at the hotel.

Review 39:Beautiful hotel, tastefully decorated to match the building's history. At the heart of Olite, on a large quiet square next to the castle and church. Lovely restaurant. Very helpful and welcoming staff.

Review 40:The restaurant is very expensive.

Review 41:The room and general facilities.

Review 42:Nothing.

Review 43:Nothing to dislike! Massively friendly and helpful staff, stunning building, tastefully and sensitively restored, equally fabulous location.

Review 44:Bed insanely uncomfortable, shabby fitting etc. 2.5 star more likely

Review 45:Location good

Review 46:architecture

Review 47:The opulence, made you feel good

Review 48:No parking on site so you have to park in public car parks

Review 49:A fabulous historical building, great food and attentive staff

Review 50:Lovely room and the walk through a classic Spanish pueblo.

Review 51:Location in the village. Proximity to the castle. The atmosphere.

Review 52:The location was great and being part of the castle was special.

Review 53:convenient for most things in the town, and an opportunity to live in a 15th century castle with all mod cons

Review 54:Excellent historic building, centrally located, excellent restaurant, close proximity to bodegas/wineries, helpful staff

Review 55:Nothing!

Review 56:Obviously everything! But in particular the location of this wonderful Parador in the beautiful, happy town of Olite

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:Usual high standard od Paradores

Review 59:the price was too far expensive for what I received

Review 60:The town

Review 61:Building going on next door. Room very dark and looked over a roof. Bathroom very narrow access

Review 62:Location good for short stay.

Review 63:There was a wedding when we got to the hotel and the whole town was there!

Review 64:Location. Medivial town. Nice people. Nice food at the town restaurants.

Review 65:There is absolutely nothing bad about this place.

Review 66:Liked Everything!

Review 67:Breakfast was exceptional.

Review 68:Parking situation. Insufficient lighting in the room.

Review 69:Staying in a castle turret.

Review 70:Lack of private secure parking

Review 71:Location

Review 72:The staff at the front desk and restaurant were very friendly and helpful - answered all my questions and responded to all requests promptly.

Review 73:Had to pay £2.50 for cup of hot water, witch was a bit much

Review 74:Did not like blankets on beds.Duvets would have been more comfortable

Review 75:Staff levels Poor availabilty of choices on menu

Review 76:Location, Rooms

Review 77:Cannot get more central, located on main piazza. Beautifully presented and historic, with helpful friendly staff and ambience.

Review 78:Poor parking at location.

Review 79:Location and food. Very helpful staff with good English.

Review 80:Constuction site outside hotel bedroom. Overpriced hotel.

Review 81:Olite is fanrastic. Tour of royal palace a must see.

Review 82:The help and greetings at the front desk was fantastic!

Review 83:I was disappointed that there were no coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 84:The ambience, friendly staff & the location.

Review 85:Airco in breakfast-area

Review 86:The french language at the réception.

Review 87:Stayed in the old castle was a great experience. Wonderful staff will go back again someday.

Review 88:Food could have been a little better.

Review 89:Overall, it was great. Staff very helpful. They helped us arrange our schedule for maximum benefit.

Review 90:There was nothing to dislike

Review 91:The location, decor, comfort and style were all excellent

Review 92:Nothing - everything was perfect.

Review 93:This castle/palace has to be one of the most magical places you could hope to stay at. We were given the tower room complete with mezzanine lounge and expansive views from the turret windows. Dinner in the grand restaurant was superb and staff were very friendly and helpful. It was raining when we arrived and they leant me an umbrella and looked after our luggage so that I was able to park the car nearby in a free parking area. The castle is magnificent and filled with antiques, beautiful works of art and complete with suits of armour in the entrance hallways. The town of Olite is also gorgeous and I cannot recommend visiting this quaint little village more highly particularly as it is only a half hour by car from Pamplona.

Review 94:Don't bother with their breakfast arrangement. Just go around the corner to one of the many pinxtos places or to the coffee places nearby.

Review 95:Great location in old town and perfect for pinxtos bar hopping at night. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff friendly. Efficiently run. No cars allowed in old town. Garages are close so no worries. Overall, very well run pension.

Review 96:Insufficient staff in the bar/cafeteria which meant that customers were not attended to in a timely manner. Restaurant was overpriced and the veal sirloin we had for dinner was so sinewy that it was inedible. When we arrived for breakfast 40 minutes before breakfast time ended there was virtually no hot food remaining and it was not replenished at all even though other guests were still arriving after us. Eventually we had to ask and it was then supplied. The breakfast was expensive and not value for money in our opinion.

Review 97:A beautiful town with a majestic castle.

Review 98:The hardwood floors in our room were very noisy but worse was that they moved when you stepped on them. We were worried of pinching our skin so I set a bath towel down over the worse area so that we would feel comfortable walking over it.

Review 99:Loved the whole idea of staying in a castle and loved the surrounding areas within the walls. The rooms were very unique. Loved the sitting area and the window seat.

Review 100:Nothing to do with the Parador. Olite is a very small town. We were there the Monday and Tuesday after Easter. All restaurants in the town (except sidewalk cafes) were closed. Nothing was open for dinner. The only place to eat was the Parador. Which is good, but we would have liked to try something else.

Review 101:Nice facility in old castle. Would recommend the rooms within the castle. They cost more, but other rooms are in a more recent add-on.

Review 102:Non availability of dining facilities outside the Parador. Maybe due to the time of year (late autumn). Dining at Parador excellent but expensive.

Review 103:This Parador is ideally located in a magnificent setting and one of the highlights of our visit to Spain. Ideally situated for day excursions. We extended our stay.

Review 104:Road noise on our side of the building. But it's a trade off to get the spectacular views.

Review 105:Great room and hotel with loads of character and very comfortable. The hotel was filled with interesting historical furniture and items. Hotel located in the main square so was ideally placed for exploring on foot.

Review 106:No negative comments.

Review 107:A characterful and beautifully presented hotel in a great location. Superb, friendly staff. Lovely guest lounge. Good breakfast buffet.

Review 108:Incredible location in a wing of the castle/fortification right in the central square of the town. Room was comfortable, clean and quiet with good beds and bathroom. Nice bar with food available in addition to the hotel's restaurant.

Review 109:Nothing really. Parking is a few hundred meters away and unsecured. You can unload the luggage fairly close to the hotel though and it probably rarely rains in the area. It didn't worry us.

Review 110:Friendly and efficient staff, delicious breakfast and nice dinner. The hotel certainly has the "wow" factor! It appears to be an annex to the imposing Royal Palace of Olite, which is well worth a visit (as well as the historic town itself). We stayed in the new tract and had a lovely big room with a little balcony overlooking a vineyard across the road. Definitely recommended!

Review 111:The car-parking. We had no forward information and so had a great deal of trouble knowing what to do. Had we gone to reception first our problem probably would have resolved immediately!

Review 112:A perfectly positioned Parador in a delightful old village dominated by the remarkable edifices of the Palace. Our visit was to go to the "home" of Navarron wines and we could not have enjoyed a better Bodega tour than we had, only for the 3 of us, in Ochoa's Bodega. The dinner in the Parador was excellent, innovative and good value for money. The room had a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. We loved it.

Review 113:Overall a great experience in Olite and at the Parador. Food was excellent, esp breakfast. Room had a view and was very comfortable and clean. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Location was great--and easy to reach by foot from the train station!

Review 114:We had a 'normal room' and were therefore in the annex which is not in the castle, do not benefit from the atmosphere and had a view on a wall...not really what you expect and not extraordinary like ....the price. To quote our guide book : 'if you are to pay a certain price to stay in the annex of the Parador just choose another hotel which for a cheaper price will be a lot better. '

Review 115:The Castle/location.. Dinner

Review 116:Lovely Parador in a unique building ; a special treat when travelling through Spain although not on the cheap side. Good value breakfast and dinner

Review 117:Loved everything about it.

Review 118:The 14th Century castle is in pretty good condition and very historical, the town is also old (no car traffic allowed) and considered a national monument, the people are very friendly. Loved to stroll around the old, narrow streets.

Review 119:Not what you expect from a Parador! It needs a serious renovation. Too expensive for what you get.

Review 120:The beds were ok, as well as the food in the restaurant.

Review 121:Olite is a village with character and the perfect place to stay if you are driving from Barcelona to Pomplona or San Sebastian. The restaurant is very good and the little shops in the village sell everything from cheese and sausage to the Ruoja wines

Review 122:A lovely parador with excellent accommodation. The food was good although the service left a little to be desired initially! A delightful small town - we wished we had time to stay longer.

Review 123:Spanish custom of starting dinner so late!

Review 124:Efficient and welcoming staff, good comfortable room with excellent views. Good breakfast and frien dly staff yet again.

Review 125:I stayed at the Parador about 15 years ago and enjoyed it. My wife and I returned to enjoy the hotel and the surrounding area. We found the hotel to be even better than previously. The staff were friendly and helpful; the food was excellent and the service very good. Naturally the location of the hotel is unique and the village and castle are well worth the visit. And a visit to the Tubal restaurant in Tafalla is an experience one never forgets-- ask for a table by the window. Also explore the surrounding villages and enjoy great Navarra wines and the Camino and its walkers.

Review 126:parking. offered secure parking, however this transpired to be a public car park 500 metres away. breakfast was understaffed resulting in having to wait for hot food

Review 127:authentic feel. clean. great location. excellent restaurant.
