Reviews for Hotel Alfonso IX
Review 1:Smell of cigarettes in our (first) room.
Review 2:Breakfast had fresh fruit and cappuccino. Room was comfortable. It was close to Peregrinoteca for supplies for the Camino.
Review 3:Sarria recently demolished a beautiful Roman bridge that gave easy access to the hotel; it is now difficult to locate without GPS.
Review 4:Hotel is not aging well, quality has declined over the years. Still, staff are attentive, parking is plentiful (no need to park in the vastly overpriced garage!) and location is near to almost everything. Good value for price paid. Lots of hot water!
Review 5:Clean, good internet, everything was as I expected. The staff is a bit impatient at check in and not fully peregrino friendly, not unfriendly just not very helpful. The dinner was good and the wait staff were pleasant.
Review 6:Noisy. We stayed on a saturday night - At 2.30am, we awoke to what sounded like staff moving furniture about downstairs!
Review 7:Nice atmosohere. Cafe which stayed open. Comfortable rooms and good breakfast.
Review 8:Nothing
Review 9:This was an excellent luxurious hotel at a low price. The room was large and airy,mr he bathroom too was large. It is just on the Camino through the town and very close to the river and some great places to eat and walk.
Review 10:Lovely clean, comfortable hotel, situated on the Camino path. Stayed here the night before we commenced our walk and it met all our needs. Staff at reception were very helpful. A little on the expensive side but fairly good value.
Review 11:The room was cold, I tried turning the heat on (the room had a thermostat buttom ranging from 10-30oC) but it only blew normal air, so I ran under the bed!
Review 12:Everythink good.
Review 13:Would have preferred view over the bay rather than the port. And the big missing was a bar or general area where you could socialise with other guests There was a bar /snack bar on the 1st floor outside the dining room but it seemed to be overlooked by guests.
Review 14:The rooms were very comfortable and stylish with excellent lighting ,space and design . Lovely touch to have bottle of cava in lobby for welcoming or early evening drink One of the best breakfasts I have ever had in any hotel in the world
Review 15:I was hoping to get some washing done by the hotel, but service not available over the weekend or holidays and extremely expensive. We booked breakfast the first day but cancelled this for the next day as expensive and they seemed to be running out of things eggs, bacon, orange juice etc. Requested us and by guests many times but finally scrambled eggs arrived 30 minutes later, however still no bacon. Feel you can get better and better value outside the hotel in near by cafe or Albergues.
Review 16:Good location comfortable room and good bathroom. But what is expected of a 4 star hotel We were walking the Camino de Santiago so chose Sarria to have a couple of days of rest.
Review 17:Use of WiFi was not seamless but otherwise all fine.
Review 18:The location was great being on the Camino. Being able to open the windows to dry washing was handy.
Review 19:Chk in staff was rude and not helpful with information sharing (location of pool, check out time, mail schedule, etc.)
Review 20:Hotel room was nice. Very modern.
Review 21:Noise from the fair got through secondary double glazing.
Review 22:Comfortable room with good facilities. Designated bike storage bay in the garage with a wire to lock the bike to.
Review 23:noisy airconditioning, that shut on and off during the night. No way to have the fan running constantly. They should be able to make espresso coffee for breakfast, rather than just the sludge they serve, given they have the machine right there in the breakfast room... Had to keep logging back into wifi with a code, which is somewhat annoying.
Review 24:Well located, with nicely furnished room. Staff very helpful with storage and return of rental bicycles. Cafeteria very good value for lunch.
Review 25:Very poor service at checkin, clerk seemed to think she was doing us afavour. Used booking.com, hotel tried to up sell saying we could nothave double bed and barth. But managed to find something when I stood myground. No room service menu in room. No sat tv. (Not even bbc news forenglish speakers 4stars??). No power points in room except bathroom.Room outdated. Flatscreen tv .... lol. Seen ATM's bigger.
Review 26:Evening and morning staff males and both pleasant and helpful.
Review 27:We liked the modern decor and well appointed room. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was good to have a restaurant on site with good variety of entrees. We liked its location on the Camino just as you are entering Sarria.
Review 28:we really enjoyed our stay here. We asked for a quiet room and just after checking in there was a lot of noise from children next door. The receptionist changed our room for us no problem. Very nice location right on the river. Unfortunately the pool was closed as works are being done along the river.
Review 29:Staff were very unfriendly.. whilst checking out I was greeted with a "did you take anything from the minibar?" .. no "hello", no "good morning", no "was everything good for you?". The wifi was practically unusable. The hotel inside if very old and dated. I would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again
Review 30:The bed was comfortable .. that's about it
Review 31:The reception staff were extremely helpful in helping me retrieve a backpack I had left behind in Samos. They contacted the location for me and arranged retrieval . All seamless and free. Also thanks to Alborque Restaurante in Samos. Muchas Gracias.
Review 32:Poor WiFi in the room
Review 33:Good property with great staff. Very comfortable accommodations. Perfect place to stay if you would like to pamper yourself on your walk along the Camino de Santiago.
Review 34:Airconditioning was noisy when switched on. Could use better lighting in the bathroom... the single white light was not very pleasant and felt like a hospital facility. Needs some updating too.
Review 35:As expected in a 4-star hotel, the bed was big and comfortable with extra pillows to use. Very rare to find big fluffy pillows on the Camino. Room service is a plus especially after a long day of walking.
Review 36:Lack of business facilities e.g unable to print from internet. However, the fabulous staff at reception directed me to an Internet cafe across the road.
Review 37:Exceptional staff, fab food and great location
Review 38:I have no complaints.
Review 39:This hotel has an air of luxury about it. Most staff speak english, they are all very helpful. The buffet breakfast is profuse, we spent hours there. The rooms are reasonably spacious and the bathrooms have a bath! It is a great luxury for a weary pilgrim. Stay 2 days and rest up before the final walk to Santiago. There is a magnificant , and very cheap, physio nearby, the staff know the clinic, great for leg and foot problems.
Review 40:Safe was broken
Review 41:very clean, spacious room hair dryer was a welcome bonus. Shower was easy to operate! A good start to spoil yourself prior to walking the Camino.
Review 42:Short stay
Review 43:Had just travelled 40 hours to get here and had a wonderful 2 days in Sarria on our way to Santiago. The hotel was hosting a wedding reception on our first night here , we only heard the party at 730am the next morning , they were still going strong. Close to everything .
Review 44:The staff was amazing! They were attentive and accommodating to wishes. If you are walking the Camino and need a bit of pampering this is a good place to take a break.
Review 45:The female in the reception not pleasant or nice in fact almost rude
Review 46:The guy in the bar/cafeteria was excellent. He served a lot all by himself and was extremly friendly and nice. The receptionist male when we checked in also very nice.
Review 47:Reception staff slightly pushy in promoting the restaurant but there are numerous restaurants within 50 metres of front door.
Review 48:Very nice big clean hotel with small pool to cool off if required. Location excellent for shops restaurants etc. I have stayed here before and would certainly return if in the area.
Review 49:Not your fault, but it's a shame that the bridge was shut to traffic.
Review 50:Both at the front desk and at the resaturant, the maids and everyone working there made our stay almost perfect.
Review 51:A bit of difficulty finding the place from the station because the signs weren't clear but it was a nice walk
Review 52:I loved the service of the staff, always willing to help; at breakfast for example they got out of their way to prepare fried and scrambled eggs for our kids. The buffet was quite nice and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff helped us find our way around Sarria
Review 53:I left my iPhone charger in the room at the hotel, but when I called the hotel on the same day that I left, I was told that none was found. I'm 100% positive that I had left it at this hotel.

Review 78:Room and staff. Dinner in its restaurant was delicious.
Review 79:Overly corporate experience. The hotel feels generally soulless.
