Reviews for Van der Valk Hotel A4 Schiphol

Review 1:1) Very dated property. 2) Not exactly at the airport. It's a good 10-15 minute drive but a straight run on the high way. 3) Very long winded ways to get to your room. 4) No facilities in room for coffee/tea or anything else. 5) Overall hotel facilities are not good.

Review 2:Odd Layout of the hotel made it difficult to navigate from our room to the lobby/restaurant/pool areas

Review 3:Close proximity to airport. Great Breakfast Buffet Updated Pool Area

Review 4:No electric kettle for boiling water. Mini fridge unavailable.

Review 5:Pleasant environment and plenty of seats at hotel lobby. Clean room and spacious. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 6:Breakfast was very expensive at 15 euro a person so we didn't eat at the hotel. It would be nice to have a pad a paper and pen in the room.

Review 7:The location was great. The shuttle to the airport was nice to have. We took it to the airport then caught a train to Amsterdam. It saved us money over a taxi. The room was very comfortable and large enough for three people.

Review 8:No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. No extra pillows.

Review 9:Restaurant was lovely, Staff very helpful. Lovely open fires, very good bed. Room was very quiet even though hotel was very full.

Review 10:Reception staff miserable Long time to check in Room not cleaned that well Had items left in bin both days

Review 11:Location near my office Few restaurants near to eat

Review 12:I really i dont understand why u dont use double curtians for your twin beds... when we need to stay in a double rooommmm not in twin.

Review 13:I always stayed in this hotel, this time i booked a luxury room! For us it was the best one...it was new.. also better than others, for example superior room! At the midnight we needed to drink sth and 2 guys from recepsion help us even the bar was closed. Shuttle bus is the perfect thing that this hotel has. From airport it started every 20min. And ams center is only 20min from schipol airport and cost 9€ for round trip. Amaizing decoration and every time meal is better!

Review 14:I gave only 2,5 because I wanted your attention. We arrived 8 o clock in the morning after flying and waiting for more or less 24 hours. The room is ready the receptionist told us with a smile, BUT we have check in time 2 pm, so if you want the room now, you have to pay Euros 15 for early check in. Imagine they would have let wait us until 2 pm, to let us use the room, even when it was ready already. I think this cheap attitude does not deserve more then 2.5 points, also when the hotel is nice.I just finished a 6 month travel in Europe and Asia and that happened only 2 times. But the other hotel was a 25 dollar hotel in the Philippines not a nice hotel in Amsterdam.

Review 15:The hotel has 2 parts- one renew which is wonderful and the old part which is also very good. The food in restaurant is very good and you have a lot of possibilities to it.

Review 16:I am simply reducing location and staff cause the shuttle needs more frequency and if you decide to take a taxi instead it will cost you around 40€

Review 17:Staff at the hotel is super kind and available. On top of being super close to the airport (not walking distance & tricky shuttle), the facilities include a fantastic gym and pool area, as well as a pub; opened late hours to save you in case you land late!

Review 18:The excellent free bus service was marred by the driver not letting us put our heavy luggage in the compartment under the bus. We had to haul it up the awkward 3 or 4 steps into the bus and then lift them onto the waist high shelf.

Review 19:Nice newly refurbished room overlooking the gardens.

Review 20:No coffee/tea making facilities.

Review 21:Best bed and pillows on a two week trip. Very quiet despite its location on the a4 highway and surrounds. Handy to refuel rental car.

Review 22:Room was a bit dated and needs updating.

Review 23:I have stayed here on numerous occasions over the last few years and have always found the staff, location and facilities to be great.

Review 24:I couldnt sleep with the noise of a wedding party. My room 701 was almost next door to the party room. There was no kettle, tea or coffee in the room. No mini bar either, very dissappointing!!

Review 25:The staff were very friendly.

Review 26:I had to call roomservice quite a few times before anyone picked up. When someone finally did, I had to repeat myself many times, it was like I didn't come through. The food was delivered fast however and tasted delicious!

Review 27:Compared to other hotels I've stayed in, the breakfast at Van der Valk is probably the best I've ever had. The bedrooms are spaceous and the bathrooms are modern, offering a big seperate bath and shower. The beds are really comfortable!

Review 28:Restaurant service in the evening around 10:00 pm was very bad, there were about 10 tables with customers and still we waited very long to receive drinks. Food was poor fastfoodrestaurant quality and prices were ridiculous high for what you get. Made the short stay a little unpleasent, too bad!

Review 29:Staff at the desk was nice and helpfull, room was perfect as well as the pool and fitness facilities.

Review 30:Parking for overnight guests to far from the reception. Safe did not work in our room; empty battery. We are senior cirizens and were assigned a room where you had to make a step of about six inches to get into the shower. Also our room was to far from the lobby; 4th floor. Maybe a question about the customer's limited mobility could be included when making a reservation. Water temperature in the shower became scolding hot when water was turned on elsewhere. Breakfast is a poor value and the restaurant was to crowded. I do not usually complain but because of all the shortcomings I will not stay at this facility again. Otherwise we have stayed at other Van der Valk hotels and will continue to do so in the future.

Review 31:Everything from small overpriced rooms to aircons that didnt work

Review 32:Nothing after having booked into Duiven Van der Valk a absolute dissapointment will not use or recomend again

Review 33:Parking was difficult due to the casino.

Review 34:The room was very large and well appointed. The entire interior was a pleasant surprise vs what the exterior of the hotel would leave you to believe.

Review 35:Restaurant

Review 36:Claims to be airport hotel - good 15 min by car in the middle of nowhere. Fine if you are heading outside Amsterdam but that depends on direction. Carpark overflowing with cars and difficult to find space. Expensive and not impressive breakfast, dinner in restaurant which is very large but nothing special. Neither is the food large portions 0f mainly prę cooked variety. Rather basic room for the price.

Review 37:Staff not very friendly and the breakfast was poor , hot food was cold and very limited choice considering they charge 15 euros it was not value for money.

Review 38:Clean and comfortable

Review 39:The Room Service are not working 24 Hrs and there is a minimum charge of 15 Euros for the Room service .. So .. You can't ask for a cup of tea at 12 AM

Review 40:Everything is nice .. The Staff are professional .. The services are great

Review 41:The hotel needs reconstruction, the smell in the bathroom and toilet was awful and the walls in the room were damaged, obviously the roof was leaking... So absolutely not this money for this room. :( very unpleasant.

Review 42:The size of the room and the food - very delicious.

Review 43:N frigo bar in the room , room services start after 1740h ,no cofe or team in the room you have to take elevator go to the restaurant on the restaurant hours , no gym or sauna towel

Review 44:Room , Internet , shuttler

Review 45:We stayed for two weeks in a room that was warm night and day, we complained to no avail! I will never stay @ that side of the hotel again! the sun was blazing on that side and the air condition was on winter mode according to one of the front desk staff. Bathroom was also small

Review 46:The service of the shuttle to and from Schiphol.

Review 47:Noise of staff smoking outside during he night. I was not informed about any hotel information or about the need to pre book the free shuttle to the airport. Obvious noise of flights!!

Review 48:basically friendly staff. Nice spa. Nice size room.

Review 49:Croissants were dried out (but that is really the only bad point)

Review 50:Superbly comfortable. Excellent spacious room for four with wonderfully comfortable beds. Delightful swimming pool and sauna.

Review 51:We were unable to control the temperature in our room. Also, we couldn't figure out how to request a wake up call via the room phone.

Review 52:Close to the airport, clean, lovely, and has all the amenities one would need. Amazing, breakfast and overall restaurant.

Review 53:But for almost 200 euro's I would have expected more, like maybe coffee and tea in the room. Or breakfast included.

Review 54:This was the best room we've had at this hotel so far. We like it because of its location close to the airport, the restaurant and the bar.

Review 55:The only thing we did not like is that there was nobody to help you with your luggage, but this is normal nowadays. They did supply us with a luggagecar though.

Review 56:Not enough handicap oriented facilities - access to main foyer requires stairs or long sloping access. No bathroom on main floor .

Review 57:Efficiency. No complicated WiFi connecting Shuttle, late evening still food available Good beds, nice bathroom

Review 58:The only two things that (in fact minor) were the distance of the room from the elevator and the fact that it is on one side of the A4 and in order to access the hotel from the other side you have to turn around at the next exit...

Review 59:Very bad Internet connectivity. The rooms also seemed to take quite awhile to access - although very pretty, the hotel layout is confusing.

Review 60:Friendly staff, but the WiFi barely worked in the room. Breakfast was 15 euro (although there was a nice selection). It's a very nice hotel, and the pool, saunas and facilities were great.

Review 61:The rooms were really smelly. The bath had a showerhead that didn't work. It sprayed everywhere. The bathroom had a terrible smell.

Review 62:Excellent location, close to airport. Rooms are large.

Review 63:Room heater hardly works. Wifi extremely weak, Very annoying that you only have internet when you sit next to the door of your room.

Review 64:Location good, near to airport and easy to get to Amsterdam or The Hague. Hotel is clean. Free car park.

Review 65:Not conveniently located. I had some difficulty getting taxis to work so ended up taking hotel shuttle bus to airport and get taxi from there. The manager in the restaurant was not very helpful.

Review 66:Restaurant and food very good. Gym area well equiped.

Review 67:There was no kettle or coffee / tea tray, dryer and fridge in the room. Also, there was no Iron in the room. These are basics, not sure how come its a 4 star facility. Had to give baby food to reception for storing in fridge and the common ironing machine was very hard to use. Had to deposit 15 € to get kettle.

Review 68:Parking and Wifi

Review 69:We were charged €20 for the schuttle from the hotel to the airport as it was before 6am, we did not know about this cost.

Review 70:The transport to the hotel from the airport was comfortable. The hotel room was big with an awesome bathroom. There hotel is near a shopping centre/ service station which is good for food and entertainment.

Review 71:The numbering of the rooms/floors lack logic. A staff member even accompanied me to the elevator. However, when I got to the "right" floor I met another lost guest and we found we were both wandering in the wrong wing. The bedside lights are a disaster to read by---completely impossible. Although I was satisfied with just a bowl of soup for dinner in the bar after an exhaustive travelling day, I would have liked to see some additional small plates other than "6 Bitterballen" or "Assortment of 6 Appetizers".

Review 72:For someone (a tourist) who needs to fly out of Schiphol the location of this hotel is ideal as it is almost impossible to miss and price-perfect. The staff, in spite of having hundreds of personalities to deal with, are unfailingly polite patient and helpful. For me the delicious breakfast was overwhelming (excelent orange juice), but it even satisfied a very young, very hungry young US Marine.

Review 73:The airport hotel shuttle bus station does not list the Van der Valk for some reason. We had to ask if we were in the correct place.

Review 74:The rooms were clean and comfortable and the restaurant was excellent. It is only 10 minutes from the airport and the shuttle bus is on a fixed schedule. Would stay there again if in transit.

Review 75:The restaurant should have moderated the large flow of people picking out their food at breakfast time - people bumping into each other at every turn it seemed.

Review 76:The staff was most helpful with details every time approached. The food was fairly good.

Review 77:Regular TV programming very limited. Shuttle service to airport often overcrowded

Review 78:Restaurant cozy and comfortable with good value. Fabulous breakfast. Room with balcony, comfortable

Review 79:I booked a Luxury Room, there was no double beds available, No Kettle tomake a drink, There is a very large car park, but it can take up to 15minutes to find a parking space. As a non smoker I had to hold my breathas I exited the hotel due to the fact that all the smoker were smokingright by the entrance, Also there was a lot of food rubbish dumped bythe main entrance, from people buying fast food from the motorwayservice station as it was cheaper than the hotel food.

Review 80:Nothing

Review 81:Only 3 very minor points - Would have greatly appreciated a tea/coffee facility in the room. Shaving mirror would be handy. Looks a bit shabby from the outside, but is lovely inside.

Review 82:Beds - best hotel beds we've slept in. Quiet - not too intrusive airline noise. Breakfast - Outstanding! Hot, fresh, tons of choice, served between 5-11am. Free shuttle to and from airport every 40 mins. Staff - polite and efficient. Gym and swimming pool.

Review 83:No in room coffee and tea, no face cloths and a very ugly picture on the wall above the desk. Every room has the same picture. Take it down, it's creepy.

Review 84:We have stayed in this hotel several times when arriving or departing from AMS airport. The location is great and the hotel has some very nice features. The rooms are spacious, have good light, excellent showers and very comfortable beds. All rooms have a balcony and there is also a very pleasant bar.The rooms are almost up to North American standard. However like most European hotels the rooms are missing in room coffee makers and while there are ample towels there are no wash clothes. Maybe in a few more years Europeans will catch on to this idea. UK hotels always have both these items for the travellers convenience

Review 85:I didn't book breakfast but decided last minute to get breakfast anyway because I was a little early. The staff treated me as if I had done a crime, changing my mind about it.

Review 86:Nice place to stay close to the airport

Review 87:Poor facilities in the room. The staff is not willing to help. Really old style room, and mattress is not comfortable at all.

Review 88:Nice breakfast, even though u have to pay for it. Fitness and swimming poll is really nice and clean

Review 89:The location isn't great if you want to get into town.

Review 90:Just what we needed, a relaxing place to stay before heading out on an early intercontinental flight the next day. Kids loved the pool. Easy dinner across the road.

Review 91:I couldn't believe that in a hotel claiming to be ready for business there is not a single iron to borrow at the reception - I asked for an iron - I was said to wait then I had to call second time to hear there is no iron - for a 4 stars hotel - not acceptable. This is the worse experience since i travel for business.

Review 92:General comfort

Review 93:the staff was ICE COLD,like they were making me a favor for the check in No minifridge in the room or kettle for tea/coffee When I asked for a double bed they answered that only for the suite they have it. I didn't know it's such a luxury to have a double bed instead of two single.

Review 94:Free swimming pool and wellness centrum Very clean

Review 95:The only downside was there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 96:Everything went to plan on our stay at this hotel.Enjoyed our stay; the room was large bright and clean with a balcony. Pool and saunauthorised was great.

Review 97:I had very noisy neighbours at 2:00 a.m. I let reception know at 2:20 and the noise did not stop. I phoned reception at 3:00 and I was told that security didn't hear any noise in the hallway so they did not request the room to be quiet. I informed them if they had listened in the courtyard they would have heard the noise - they did send someone up at last and the people finally closed their door, turned off the music and used normal talking voices. As a result, I had little sleep as I headed into a long travel day.

Review 98:The property was conveniently located and had obviously been recently updated.

Review 99:Fake flowers, stuffed birds. There was a whirlpool advertised which didn't exist. When we booked the staff mailed us and said we have to book directly with the hotel for a higher price! The parking deal is very expensive. Check out the far cheaper courier services that take and return your car direct to Schiphol.

Review 100:It was nice to have a pool and to be in easy access of the airport without the stress and sound of the airport.

Review 101:I did not like the staff. Very cold and not helpful at all to traveler with a lot of luggage. Also, they can not store your luggage there unless you used paid (coins) lockers downstairs. They do not have bellboys or staff to help with luggage either.

Review 102:Nature around hotel, restaurants and possibilities to eat out, good wifi free of charge, bed is nice. Convenient schedule to Schiphol.

Review 103:NO Internet in room, flat pillows, no tea/coffee making facilities but the staff did rent us a kettle with a refundable deposit of eur15.

Review 104:Free shuttle bus, always punctual. Hotel lobby is pictureque. Room was spacious and clean, has a nice garden view. Hotel staff are helpful & professional. Conveniently located next to some eateries: KFC, Burger King, Delifrance, La Place

Review 105:For an upgraded room I was surprised that the bath gel wasn't replenished the following day and there was no conditioner nor body lotion. An ice machine Would have been nice.

Review 106:The room was comfortable and we got upgraded without asking. The airport shuttle service was great.

Review 107:Breakfast was pricey. Spending time in Amsterdam Cenraal required about an hour's transport per day. It was convenient, but time consuming.

Review 108:The room was very pleasant and comfortable. The shuttle ran on time. I enjoyed the balcony and the view of the garden below.

Review 109:I had the impression that we had to pay by the minute for wifi. This is what I read in the hotel pamphlet that was in my room. For this reason, I didn't know that there was free wifi anywhere. Perhaps clarify this, as it's very important :( I would stay here again in the future when using Amsterdam as a stop-over if wifi is provided free in rooms.

Review 110:Everything but the lack of internet. Loved the wellness center but wished it could stay open an hour longer.

Review 111:The wifi connection wasn't too great.

Review 112:Great hotel room, situated near the airport, good for short stays in Amsterdam, Free shuttle bus every 40 mins with the airport being linked to the Amsterdam rail station. Room was beautiful and clean.

Review 113:No kettle. No minibar. Poor wifi. Fly out planes make lots of noise during the day, though it is not that bad at night.

Review 114:Comfortable beds. Balcony and nice view. Airport shuttle. Very helpful staff. Easy checkin, checkout.

Review 115:It wasn't a big deal for us but it is not close to the city center... However the offer a free shuttle to the airport which is awesome!

Review 116:This is a great renovated hotel! We were a bit worried from previous comments about open bathrooms but this was not case they have doors! The staff is helpful, rooms really clean and spacious.

Review 117:I paid for a duble room and I got one standard, old and ugly, just because I had my cat with me, for which I paid a fee of stay disappointed, I will never come to this hotel and hope others will not have the same experience was horrible

Review 118:rich breakfast

Review 119:We couldn't stay longer.

Review 120:This famous mountain hotel is casually elegant, beautiful, with a staff that is very professional yet pleasant. It perches above a world class view of mountain peaks, a deep valley with a rushing river and glorious waterfalls. Ingrid Tonneberg, the owner, is graciousness, personified. What more do you need?

Review 121:The new wing rooms don't offer much privacy as the sink area is open plan. No room in the small closet to hang dresses or other long items, room is more suitable for business traveller. Will ask for another room type if I return.

Review 122:Staff very welcoming and efficient Free Shuttle bus to the Airport Pool and wellness centre great Cleanliness outstanding

Review 123:Staff not so friendly. No kettle in the room. And one more thing, I haveto pay extra eur45 for my 2 kids due to insurance coverage as explainedby the staff upon check-in. This was misunderstood by me while made abooking online. The extra charges should be stated in the web earlier.

Review 124:Big, clean and beautiful room with balcony, big bathroom with separatebathtub and shower..Free airport shuttle buw which is so efficient andcomfort! The best accomodation in Europe so far! Will always be mychoice if I come back to Amsterdam.. Keep it up!

Review 125:We rented a kettle for a deposit that was returned when we left. The breakfast was quite expensive.

Review 126:The hotel is quite a distance by shuttle to the airport actually so leave extra time. All the reviews about lack of fridge, no kettle, no tissues etc are correct. A bit odd... but we had a renovated room and it was huge and gorgeous and overlooked the courtyard. We had my daughter's birthday dinner there and it was excellent food and they made her birthday special. The pool and spa area were excellent.

Review 127:Not that i didnt like anything but in the new room we had alot more channels to watch on our t.v and in english, where in the old room there was barely anything and even if we bought the smoovie card for the old room its just news channels. Should also have the same mattress' as in the new part of the hotel so much more commfier.

Review 128:We both stayed in an older room then a new room in the other part of the hotel.we liked the facilities. The new room was excellant compared to the old room.

Review 129:Our only issue is that the hotel is so large that if you do not make a special request you can be far from the lobby when you need to leave.

Review 130:The location is great. The bed is comfortable as is the bathroom. The restaurant is very good. Newly renovated.

Review 131:Tea and coffee facility in room would have been great. Unfortunately the breakfast was too expensive.

Review 132:The luxurious room with it's large bathroom and comfy beds, the shuttle, the pool. Beautiful setting and decor.

Review 133:I had bad experiences with the front desk staff there where not friendly or they didn't greet me. If you asking them you receive a ruth answer.

Review 134:The new rooms where got and really clean big plus for housekeeping

Review 135:When getting the shuttle bus to the airport in the morning there was not enough room for us so our bags went on the bus and we were asked to follow in a taxi provided. However, this took us to a totally different drop off point at the airport so we temporarily lost our bags and had to contact the hotel. Big panic but luckily we were reunited with the bags thanks to the driver staying with them and also contacting the hotel.

Review 136:Good wifi, rooms were clean. Useful shuttle service to and from the airport.

Review 137:The lighting was such that if one of you got up in the night for the bathroom the lights lit up the whole room - you couldn't close it off. If you were staying with a friend or colleague there was no private area to get dressed. The large van Gogh self portrait was creepy. There didn't appear to be any assistance with luggage and our room was a long way from reception. The hotel info folder must have had something spilt on it as it was wet through and was never replaced while we were there.

Review 138:We were in the new wing so everything was bright and shiny although rather bland.

Review 139:Nothing specific, room could have got some kettle with coffee as a minimum comfort

Review 140:The receptionist was so helpful and booked us very good rooms by understanding out requirements

Review 141:The room is vacuum clean only once in four days, and not done correctly. WC is smiley(like last time we visit, no improvement) Cleaning personal make a lot noise in the morning!! (speaking) WIFI was working now and than!!? No fridge in room (really a shortcoming)

Review 142:The location. Info at the check-in counter. Spare of room.

Review 143:Nothing I didn't like.

Review 144:Everything, a lot better than expected (We went for the triple room). I wouldn't fault it and I am considering going back as it's just a shuttle ride from the airport. It even has a great bar, great restaurant and excellent facilities in room. We had 2 marble basins, a huge bath and a huge shower. A massive Samsung HD TV, 3 beds, USB ports for charging of phones and a balcony view.
