Reviews for Grand Hotel Du Golfe
Review 1:We have been told on the phone that the heated pool temperature was 28 degrees (october). In reality the temperature was about 20 degrees ! At check-in we have been told that our children (9 & 11 yo) don't pay for the breakfast. At check-out we had to pay 8 euros for each children breakfast !
Review 2:Comfortable Room Clean (even though we found a cigarette pack in the bin) Wifi ok Breakfast ok Parking in front of the hotel
Review 3:The road in front of the hotel can be heard during the day but everything is pretty quiet during the night and early morning.
Review 4:Great location in walking distance to the small cove beaches. Short drive or a lovely 20 minutes walk into town with some great restaurants and sand beach. Great rooms with sea view. Lovely staff.
Review 5:The shower head holder was broken making taking a shower & washing your hair very difficult.
Review 6:Beautiful setting. Description as advertised. Helpful staff. Wonderful breakfast.
Review 7:Room was small. Toilet was separate from bathroom. Some traffic noise from main road.
Review 8:Very good dinner and breakfasts. Relaxing pool area, in spite of some noise from road. Breakfast on sunny terrace was lovely. Good location for driving to Collioure and Argelès plage.
Review 9:We had a dinner reservation in the restaurant for 7:30pm and the when we entered the empty restaurant at 7:35 to eat they told us the kitchen wasn't ready. Yet the staff and owner were sitting at a table with a wine vendor tasting wine. When I asked the front desk if we made a mistake on our reservation time, she had him seat us. There was no reason we couldn't have been sat on time to even enjoy a glass of wine. Then after ordering the waiter never really came back to the table to see if we needed anything else. After I asked when breakfast was and told the waiter we would not be there foe breakfast because we had to leave early. When she found out she wanted me to immediately check out of the hotel which made no sense since we hadn't even slept there yet and was more concerned with that then making us feel comfortable to stay.
Review 10:Excellent Food and beautiful hotel but if you are an American I would not suggest staying here. The staff was less than helpful and annoyed at every question, even though they spoke english.
Review 11:Our room overlooked the car park and was not private enough. The room safe was not anchored at all. The shower was hand held only, not fixed at head height. The pool service bell was out of order.
Review 12:This is a modern, clean hotel. The pool area was good. The location is fine for touring the area.
Review 13:The attitude of the evening meal waiters was unhelpful , regarding recommendation of wine we asked for a dry white & was given a very sweet wine , there attitude was, that's all the region has to offer ! Rather than make more of a fuss we put up with it , typical Brits ! Not a big deal but not great for 30 + euros .
Review 14:Location & very clean / fresh . The young man on reception was very helpful .
Review 15:It is not quite convenient to reach the public beach, which is perhaps not the cleanest either, but none of this is the fault of the hotel. The swimming pool in the hotel is great.
Review 16:Great renovated hotel, recalling some of the original 1970s roadside motel atmosphere in a modernized edition. Excellent, although a bit pricy, restaurant that attracts not only the guests of the hotel but also people from the neighboring cities. Meticulously tended mediterranean vegetation in the hotel garden.
Review 17:The only negative for me was that I like to sleep with several pillows and the ones they have are too small and soft for me, other than that the place was great.
Review 18:Very friendly staff and the family ownership gave it a very friendly atmosphere.
Review 19:Boutique Hotel with all rooms having a balcony & sea facing. Breakfast very good, & helpful staff. Excellent of car parking outside hotel and lifts to higher rooms for taking luggage.
Review 20:Sea view from the room was a highlight. For the breakfast, there was a good choice and seem to have thought of everything. I also much appreciated the warm welcome.
Review 21:the staff refused to engage in English although I know they all spoke very good English when it suited them. Complaints were ignored staff rude, house keeping entered roon despite "Do NOT Disturb" sign
Review 22:one member of staff Venessa was positive but seldom available
Review 23:Standard rooms a little on the small side and a bit spartan.
Review 24:Good location with free parking, spacious public areas, beautiful views, very helpful friendly staff. Good quality breakfast in a nice airy dining room, again with sea views.
Review 25:Lack of a high shower bracket meant you had to hold it (basic mistake for a hotel of this quality). Breakfast was a little expensive.
Review 26:Ease of finding hotel & location. Very nice gardens and everything well maintained. Breakfast was very varied and fresh with option to take on the terrace. Secure parking with automatic gate. 5 mins from Collioure in a car. Nice design, contemporary. Toilet separated from bathroom (although missing it's own sink). Nice size balcony with table and chairs.
Review 27:Even though we had a nonsmoking room, cigarette smells were in the hallway, fortunately not the room. The Wifi service was not the best, but adequate.
Review 28:A nice location with friendly helpful staff. The pool was awesome, the bed was comfortable and the facility was clean and well cared for.
Review 29:Hard to find...my gps could not locate it so had to go to tourist officewhich, of course, was closed from 12-2p. But when we did find the hotel,it was gem.
Review 30:The view, the view, the view. The friendly staff, our balcony, wonderfulbreakfast....beautiful pool.
Review 31:Distance to restaurants and sandy beaches. Single beds too narrow. Lack of storage.
Review 32:Staff, view, pool, decor, grounds. Dining terrace was delightful. Everything well kept and very clean.
Review 33:The hotel doesn't have it's own excess to a beach. Plus the hotel is in front of the road and railroad, although at nighttime it was not very noisy. As well don't think that you will find a golf course, as "golfe" means a cliff.
Review 34:A nice good looking hotel near lovely town Collioure. We found the balanced calm contemporary design. All the stuff were speaking English. A local restaurant offered a tasty modern cousin. We enjoyed a big clean outside pool a lot.
Review 35:Location is neither in Argeles-sur-Mer nor Collioure. Instead it's overlooking a busy/noisy road and main train line between France & Spain. If you don't mind sleeping with your windows closed you're ok. Overpriced probably because of the candles and twigs in jars. Not our cup of tea.
Review 36:very little
Review 37:Efficiency and friendliness of the staff. The breakfast was excellent value for money with lots of choices. The restaurant was superb, first rate. The location was very good for the beach and coastal walks.
Review 38:Did not like that people could take pets into the hotel. Rooms were small and no space to locate cases.
Review 39:View from balcony was good. Access to a great restaurant at the hotel.
Review 40:The only thing I would change, and it is trivial, are the lurid fleecy strips across the bed, somehow the artificial fibres seemed out of place here!
Review 41:Staff were extremely helpful and cheerful. It was lovely to see the owners there on a regular basis. Close attention to detail.
Review 42:absence de restauration
Review 43:Spacious comfortable room , with a panoramic sea view. Friendly staff and good buffet breakfast
Review 44:Excellent swimming pool, beautiful sea view
Review 45:Nothing
Review 46:Everything
Review 47:The whole experience was very good
Review 48:separated from the coast by main road and railway( but still quiet).
Review 49:Beautifully styled hotel with lovely views. Good pool.Excellent food.
Review 50:No air conditioning
Review 51:Great location on the edge of the lake. Good restaurant and bar.
Review 52:Clean and well appointed. Nice view towards the sea Comfortable rooms although a little small
Review 53:Brilliant meal- very high quality and great value
Review 54:Uncooperative attitude of member of management re complaint over undercooked food.
Review 55:Location
Review 56:good standard and well kept
Review 57:Location overlooking the sea and room with a balcony!
Review 58:Isolated, nothing near if you don't have a car on the road and very close to rail line, too noisy to open your balcony door
Review 59:Pool good
Review 60:Train and traffic noise
Review 61:approx. 2 km outside Collioure, therefore a car is required to visit town
Review 62:modern rooms heated swimming pool sufficient car parking places
Review 63:The shower wasn't hanging from the wall.
Review 64:Location and view Food Hamam, spa, massages Design
Review 65:limited dinner menu choices, bar service poor when restaurant busy.
Review 66:Small for a family.
Review 67:Great location, very friendly.
Review 68:The evening at Argeles sur mer.
Review 69:The cooking. Even 8 and 10 year old yougsters loved the kids-menu.The evening atmosphere in Coulioure.
Review 70:We liked the view.
Review 71:Free parking Possibility to rent (electrical) bikes Very nice staff Close to the beach, while apart from very touristic residential areas
Review 72:Nothing wrong.
Review 73:Very nice & cean room. Views. Gardens. Close to nice beaches.
Review 74:Lovely decor and very clean. Free parking which was great. Short drive to town
Review 75:Restaurant too expensive and poorly designed. No luggage rack, no counter or shelf space, tiny bedside table. Refrigerator in closet, but placed so that sliding door became stuck.
Review 76:Location,but car needed to get to town or to restaurant. Do not try to walk...only access is on busy narrow road. Nice view, even from basement. Room was a decent size and bathroom good size.
Review 77:There is a main road and a railway line between the hotel and the beachwhich you'd never know from the description.
Review 78:Nice designer lobby and restaurant/bar. Spotlessly clean.
Review 79:Shower did not have a mounting on the wall so it had to be handheld
Review 80:Comfortable though slightly small room. Nice restaurant with good food of a French/Japanese fusion
Review 81:There is a path one can take to get to Collioure on foot. There are several variations of route and we took a wrong-turning and our "20 minute walk" took us over an hour! Perhaps a sketch-map of the route would be helpful! Coming back at night we recommend getting a taxi (approx 10 euros)
Review 82:The hotel's swimming pool was one of the largest we have seen. The modern design of the hotel was very pleasing. The buffet breakfast was varied and good. We chose this hotel because of its parking and situation outside of Collioure where it is very difficult to park in high season. We would definitely book another stay at Grand Hotel du Golfe.
Review 83:No elevator, deep steps, difficult to find even with gps, far from the main beach restaurants and port. Have to walk along the road to the beach. parking under your windows.noisy Tom rads and trains
Review 84:Friendly staff
Review 85:The hotel location is too far from Collioure to walk, and the road is unlit, so walking at night is not an option. There was no shower head holder (seems common in France) so need to have a bath or hold shower with one hand. Restaurant is not part of the hotel, so cannot charge meals to room. Limited choice of coffees for my partner.
Review 86:The welcome on arrival was excellent from the young girl who worked through the day. She showed us to our room and showed how the air con worked and helped us with our bags. The restaurant in the hotel is excellent. The pool area is clean and tidy, as is the rest of the hotel. The view from the balcony is lovely, and the aircon in the rooms (was over 35c when we visited) is excellent. Note that the hotel is neither in Argeles-Sur-Mer or Collioure. Collioure is 9 euros in a taxi, 30 min walk or 10 min drive away.
Review 87:We understood that we would not need a car and we were able to walk to Collioure and La Racou but the only place to eat anything but breakfast had to be eaten out of the hotel. The restaurant attached was expensive and terrible.
Review 88:We enjoyed using the swimming pool.
Review 89:A bit far from a beach. A stony beach can be reached by 5 min walking, although the walk requires passing a road with fast traffic. Not for children alone. To reach the sandy beach a short car drive is necessary. But it is not very far.
Review 90:Nice view from rooms. Clean rooms. Good pool area.Nice personel. Nice area. Both villages on either side of hotel are very nice.
Review 91:Not much storage in the bedroom.
Review 92:Loved the design of the hotel, really lovely and the staff were great. The pool area is fantastic, really good length to swim and extremely relaxable space. Air conditioning system was first class (really welcome as most days 35 degrees) state of the art. Everything was extremely well maintained.
Review 93:no comfortable casual seating area inside hotel, just restaurant that is quite formal No casual bar menu for food quite a lot of noise from road and trains passing
Review 94:Pool, view from room
Review 95:Very friendly staff. Modern refurbished room. Comfortable bed and great views. Outstanding kitchen and excellent breakfast. Restaurant was fully booked upon arrival. They made their utmost to get me a table and finally accommodated me. Great service and a spectacular dinner. Highly recommended!!
Review 96:Vague about distance from Collioure on hotel website. Not walking distance , we got lost in the wind and rain on first evening walking to the town.
Review 97:Friendly and helpful staff. Very clean hotel.
Review 98:The location is far off from town, definitely need a car to get around.
Review 99:The sea view, the staff were very professional. I really enjoyed the breakfast and the design of the hotel is modern.
Review 100:No hot drink making facilities in room. Very close to busy railway line and busy main road.
Review 101:Fantastic food, worthy of a Michelin star. Sea vies from all rooms. Heated outdoor pool. Spa facilities.
Review 102:1. Room very small 2. No account taken of weather - insufficient bedding necessitated use of heating in April.
Review 103:1. Modern decor 2. Friendly bi-lingual staff 3. Free car parking 4. Breakfast buffet
Review 104:the price to use the jacuzzi
Review 105:hospitity of the owner .the hotel is clean and comfortable. the decoration creates a zen atmosphere.we will come back. merci.
Review 106:Rooms were quite small. No elevator so baggage has to be carried upstairs. Continental breakfast was expensive for what was offered. There is quite a bit of road noise as well.
Review 107:The Staff was very helpful & accomodating and tried to speak French & english.Room was very clean & tidy
Review 108:Of all the hotels that we know the GHG is our prefeerred one you just feel like coming home there de touts les hotels du monde le GHG reste notre hotel preferé on se sent simplement rentrer chez soi Von allen Hotels die wir in unseren Reisen besuchen ist das unser Lieblingsort wo wir uns immer sofort zuhause fühlen..
Review 109:Pictures do not really describe the site well, suggest to Google earth the site. The size of the family rooms, the rooms were too small for 3 and hence the price was also exaggerated for this size. The access to the pool was not convenient and could be easier if integrating the health care center and whirlpool not used, when we were present. This Hotel is not really a 3 star sothat I was forced to upgrade to a 4 star to save the holiday.
Review 110:The buffet breakfast was more than average (for France). The staff was friendly - when present as a bit understaffed.
Review 111:My wife and I found this place by mistake as originally we wanted to be in Collioure ... and so glad we did! Ideally situated halfway between Collioure (beautiful, but hard to park, packed in August) and Argeles (lively, very busy, noisy ) so its only 10 minutes walk to Le Racou beech (best in the area) and 20 minutes walk to Collioure. The hotel is spotlessly clean, excellent swimming pool, good parking, superb sea views (particularly from the bedroom), unfussy but helpful staff that let you enjoy your holiday, and family friendly. The menu is limited, but wonderfully cooked and superbly presented; Great wine list! When we first arrived we were worried that there may be noise from the road and there is a train track on the far side of the road before the beech; However traffic is minimal as this is not the main road to Collioure and there are only about 4 trains an hour which are quiet and do not run at night ... well if they did .. we never heard them! So if you want a hotel that allows you a quiet nights sleep, but is close enough to restaurants and beeches and the rest, so you can enjoy your holiday i have no hesitation in recommending this as an ideal place to stay.
Review 112:There was no lift and disappointingly no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which come as standard in lesser hotels. Most annoyingly you had to hold the shower head in your hand when taking a shower. There was no support for it at head height!!!!
Review 113:It was a beautiful hotel offering large comfortable rooms overlooking the sea.
Review 114:no airconditioning we are best western gold points but they would not give us a room higher up and being on the first floor we could not open the window for secuirty - room becoame hot and stuffy in the night. coffee and crossant too expensive and we gave up waiting. The outside could do with some paint.
Review 115:spa facilities near the front and restaurants good parking spacious rooms
Review 116:The location was terrible, it is concealed on the website, we didn'thave a car and spent the entire time in taxis Also the noise from themain road and the railway line was loud....Overall I was very disappointed with the hotel as I felt I had been sold something that was different in reality to what was delivered And finally, a hotel called "du Golfe" but no golf on site ???
Review 117:The swimming pool
Review 118:busy road&railway line opposite hotel,no reception between 10pm&8am...no bar facilities in evening....need a car nothing in hotel area..no lift...
Review 119:room clean...staff very helpful&friendly..sea view great....breakfast ok....
Review 120:No hook for hanging shower head. Bedside tables too small, but these are only minor points.
Review 121:Very relaxing hotel conveniently situated between Argeles Port with its restaurants etc, and Collioure - both walkable in about half an hour via good footpaths. The room was v ery clean and well presented, with a balcony looking over the Med. Excellent choice for breakfast and light meals available in the evenings. Very nice gardens surround the hotel.
Review 122:The views ares fabulous so well worth taking a room with. Sea view. The spa was fabulous, and the food in the restaurant also excellent.
Review 123:I like the fact I could walk from the hotel to the beach. Very friendly host. Good breakfast. Great massage.
Review 124:Location, a bit away from both beach and town.
Review 125:Good restaurant, nice pool.
Review 126:Restaurant not open on Sundays. Rooms too small.
Review 127:The position, the staff and the general cleanliness.
Review 128:Great Location. You can walk to the quiet beach nearby, heated swimming pool and the restaurant serve amazing dishes. We love to go back someday.
