Reviews for Hotel Balcón de Europa

Review 1:Great location. Friendly staff - fluent English with a wealth of information. Amazing breakfast. We enjoyed our cocktails in the rooftop bar at the end of the day ...

Review 2:NOTHING!!!

Review 3:Stayed over Christmas period - first time away for us but everything was beautiful and festive. Hotel located in the heart of everything and immaculately clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food first class and plenty of choice. Would definitely stay for Christmas again.

Review 4:There was some maintenance work going on, which I suppose has to be done in winter. Basic rooms don't get a view, a little disappointing!

Review 5:The location is fantastic, right in the centre. Breakfast was great, a really good buffet service, something for everyone. The weather was very good, especially for mid December so the sheltered beach area and pool terrace gave a haven of heat. Didn't have the evening meal but again the buffet looked amazing. Enjoyed my stay and would stay again.

Review 6:Well-run hotel with good staff in a superb location. Excellent wifi coverage throughout. Charming private beach. Mirador cafe bar is much better than the cafes in town nearby - plus you have the view.

Review 7:location, a most accommodating staff especially when I needed a place to park my car, also never rushed us when we were having coffee with our friends who live in Nerja

Review 8:bedroom far too hot.

Review 9:great to visit this hotel again after a 12 year absense and find it still makes the grade. excellent place to stay. enjoying a glass of vino on the balcony in december, hard to beat.

Review 10:Generally dated ambience, whilst there was a large selection for breakfast in my view it is best to concentrate on quality rather than quantity. Swimming pool inferior. Lack of parking.

Review 11:There were no real positives other than the sea view, which would go for any hotel on the coast. Staff were amiable throughout.

Review 12:We stayed at a room with seaview and balcony on the 5th floor. Unfortunately, the 6th floor is the hotel's bar. All night we heard noises of table moving, people laughing and stuff dropping on the floor until 1:00am we called up to the front desk complaining about the noises.

Review 13:Location is excellent. Staff were friendly.

Review 14:It was all good. The paintings were tacky and I'd have liked fresh juice and that's about it.

Review 15:Location was great , right at the centre of Nerja on the promenade.

Review 16:Apparently the evening buffet wasn't up to standard.

Review 17:Location excellent, staff really friendly and helpful, varied breakfast choices, lovely to be able to use the beach and the pool.

Review 18:Bar staff are extremely slow, you need to wait on table service, it took 20 mins+ to order and at one point my order never came!

Review 19:Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, location is fantastic

Review 20:Because the hotel was in a pedestrian area car parking was some distance from the hotel. There was a long walk from and to the airport collection transport. The reception Staff took a full week - and three attempts - to spell their guest's name correctly.

Review 21:The food was very good at Breakfast and on the Buffet Nights (but not so on the other nights). The Hotel was very convenient to shops etc.

Review 22:you have to walk from the taxi to the hotel about 1/4 mile with your case, from where we were dropped off.

Review 23:The hotel was right in the centre,, handy for everything.

Review 24:The location was good and staff we're friendly

Review 25:Room 502 should not be considered a room because of the noise. We were very disappointed paying such a large amount of money.

Review 26:The hot tub was not hot at all, rather cool. We only remained in the hot tub for a few minutes and was very cold exiting.

Review 27:Staff very friendly, except a woman in the morning who did not seem to enjoy having us at her table. She did well with food and drink, just did not seem happy about it at all. The location is wonderful, with a small private beach that is well cared for and easy walk to all the shops and cafes. The view is amazing as well!

Review 28:We had trouble finding the parking lot and staff went the extra mile to get us sorted out. We decided to stay another day and had to move rooms they went overboard to make it easy. The breakfast was excellent and the view is memorable.

Review 29:Asked for 1 hour extension to check-out having booked an airport transfer with hotel - declined.

Review 30:Superb location and our room had terrific views. Breakfast very good.

Review 31:There was nothing to dislike

Review 32:Loved the fab sea view suite beachside location and the lovely staff which where always very helpful and there English was perfect , the breakfast staff was helpful you can get a fresh omelette made for you while you wait which was delicious!! Can't wait to go back !!! Soon

Review 33:We were on the 7th Floor for four nights although the view was terrific we had a band playing outside every evening from 8.30pm - 12.00 midnight. We had to move to a lower floor for the three remaining nights. Unfortunately this room did not have as good a view.

Review 34:The hotel/room was spotless, the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was first class.

Review 35:Car park too far up hill had carry cases both ways always full had wait parking. Not really suitable can even pull up outside hotel to unload cases

Review 36:Staff v good.

Review 37:Beautful hotel in an absolutely superb position. Staff extremely helpful and friendly, great facilities, comfortable beds, wonderful setting for breakfast. Couldn't ask for a better place to spend a few days!

Review 38:Sun beds are often booked for the day but not used, half day booking or a alternative sun bed usage policy would be nice, that said you could still find space to lay out a towel or use one of the plastic chairs that were most always available

Review 39:Sea view, breakfast, location, room, easy quick access to the beach, view from dinning room, Plastic beach chars very comfy.

Review 40:limited number of sunbeds on the beach, no description on hoo to arrive with a car.

Review 41:view from the balcony (we recommend taking a room with seaview), hotel beach, location

Review 42:Pool area was a bit disappointing. Only 4 loungers to sit on with view of the pool to supervise children. Also the flooring and loungers there could do with a scrub. Son came home with ear infection from pool. Breakfast had a good variety but canned fruit was a bit disappointing.

Review 43:Excellent location, nice hotel, good selection of food at breakfast

Review 44:Air con was a little old, but just about did the job

Review 45:Location, views, very comfy bed, staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and very quick to respond

Review 46:Swimming pool too small and always crowded.

Review 47:Location of property is ideal as its right in the centre of town.Variety of restaurants can be found within a five minute walk.

Review 48:the clostrophopic hot lifts.

Review 49:Everything, the breakfast, the ease of reception, the sunbeds, the beach, the sea, the pool, the location, the room, the view, the towel change facility.

Review 50:I have stayed at this hotel many times but regrettably I shall not stay again. They host a lot of weddings and these clearly take precedence over paying guests. The food is mediocre and the Gala Dinner where a lot of the leftover food from previous days is used up is a joke. The beach is too small, the staff appear unhappy and the terrace service at the front of the hotel is terrible. It can take 10 mins to summon a waiter, 8 minutes to receive your order and then a further 10-15 mins to obtain and settle your bill. My last trip is done.

Review 51:The location is wonderful. The buffet breakfasts are very good. The rooms are very clean.

Review 52:Fabulous hotel, full of character and authenticity. Tremendous view from your room if booked, if not, just go outside! Lots of restaurants, bars and views nearby.

Review 53:This was a beautiful old hotel. We liked everything although the hotel is a lite tired and could use some refreshing.

Review 54:Cannot beat the location and the ambiance. We ate many times at beach and up in the balcon and the food was very good. I would definitely stay there again.

Review 55:Key cards to room kept failing! Breakfast staff were efficient, but somewhat negative upon any request. Beach Bar/restaurant was very slow and staff not well trained. Mixed drinks were bad.

Review 56:Location, balcony views, breakfast selection and quality.

Review 57:Pool was small for the hotel, and didn't like the fact it was a 5* and you had to pay €5 per day each for a sun bed on the beach, or €3.50 for the sun terrace that over looked it ... For our family at that rate it would have cost us €130 for the 9 days ...

Review 58:Lovely breakfast all you could think of... reception ladies were lovely.. as we're all the staff.

Review 59:The location was perfect, near shops, restaurants & Church. Breakfast couldn't have been better, staff were extremely helpful. Only ate one evening meal there, food was good, main course portions a bit small.

Review 60:Sometimes the quality of the evening meal, was disappointing

Review 61:Position and ambiance .Wonderful sea views .excellent staff. Loved being in the centre of Nerja and being able to walk out in the evenings for a drink .Plenty of atmosphere and no traffic

Review 62:the hotel is an L shape - I had booked a suite with a sea view fronting (I thought) directly onto the Mediterranean unfortunately for me I was given a room fronting directly on to the Balcon and whilst technically this was a sea view it wasn't really what I wanted. Advise anyone booking to ask specifically for the direct sea view

Review 63:location, staff, cafe/bar with direct access to the beach

Review 64:The beach terrace was not in great condition, the astro turf carpet was very dirty. The breakfasts were UK oriented with bacon and eggs etc, they need more healthy options.

Review 65:Friendly staff and nice location. This is a tourist class hotel and not a true 4 *. It was acceptable but not outstanding.

Review 66:parking place, have to park public parking first, after check-in,hotel staff help to park hotel garage which gate is vely narrow. dinner is vely crowded.

Review 67:location ,bell boy is very active to help car parking even early in morning

Review 68:that we asked for a non smoking room but smoke from other room next door drifted in all night, made us sick!!! paid extra for a room with sea view but couldn't open blinds as was street height and pedestrians could see straight into our room.

Review 69:breakfast was amazing

Review 70:We would have preferred an 'A la Carte' menu for dinner. We had a buffet dinner which was fantastic, but the 20 Euro dinner menu we found a bit restrictive. For us the mattress was too hard. It would be good to provide 'toppers' for guests who need a softer mattress.

Review 71:The sea view from our room (1st floor) and the sound of the waves. The hotel is beautifully decorated and furnished. We found all the staff very friendly and the breakfast was great.

Review 72:We are a group of Skittlers from the West Country who have been going on trips every year to different towns and cities all around Europe over a period of two decades !! On our return to the UK we all agreed that our trip to Nerja and the Hotel Balcón de Europa was the "Best one yet" Thank you and we'll be back next year

Review 73:Amazing sea front location, very central location without the noise. The staff were extremely polite, courteous and helpful. The breakfast choice, quality and service were second to none

Review 74:The rooms were a little hot and the ac didn't seem to help much.

Review 75:The hotel is situated right at the heart of Nerja, the views surrounding it are breathtaking. Our room was fantastic very clean plus we had the added bonus of a balcony looking out at the sea.

Review 76:Literally nothing to complain about here.

Review 77:We rented a junior suite, as we had our 2 year old with us, so wanted to have somewhere to sit and relax whilst he went to sleep (usually around 10 pm). This cost 704 euros/£516 for 4 nights, breakfast included. We felt this was very good value as the breakfast was plentiful with a lot of choices. The staff could not be more helpful. The room was large, modern and kept very clean by the maids. The view of the Mediteranian was breath taking and the private beach a real luxury which we made good use of.

Review 78:Piano bar closed. Room claustrophobic. Would pay extra next time for balcony and sea view.

Review 79:Adjacent to beach and town. Service and breakfast could not be better.

Review 80:We love the fact that this hotel never disappoints,we have been coming down here over the past eighteen years and there is always a warm welcome from the reception right throughout the hotel.

Review 81:The hotel car park could have been better signposted. We ended up using the municipal car park which was OK but would have preferred the use of the hotel's

Review 82:The consistency of high quality and service and the fabulous location

Review 83:Beds hard, but topper provided when I asked. Really needs tea/coffee making facilities.

Review 84:Wonderful view from balcony. Good decor. Very clean. Good selection for breakfast. Very convenient for the centre of town and beach.

Review 85:room was too hot and couldn't get it cooled. Dirty towel in bathroom. Staff not very friendly or helpful had to wait ages for a high chair on several occasions.

Review 86:location was great and room was nice. Excellent breakfast

Review 87:Lacks entertainment. Tea/coffee facilities in room would have been appreciated.

Review 88:Very good hotel. Excellent location, stunning views and great shopping.

Review 89:We were very unhappy about having to leave and to return to the realities of February greyness back in the UK.

Review 90:We loved our room and going to sleep with the sound of the sea pounding below. We loved waking up to a superb breakfast with sparkling blue views and the wit of Mario the waiter. We loved lunch of fresh fish in the restaurant by the waves.

Review 91:The organization of the outside bar would benefit from a good manager, forgotten orders and the wrong bill happened more than once - shoddy!

Review 92:We were immediately made welcome by the wonderful lady at reception, warm and friendly. Not forgetting our friendly porter! Old fashioned service which is rare these days.

Review 93:Notnkng

Review 94:Staff friendly but not intrusive trip was for my husbands birthday (50) we came back late afternoon on first day to tray with cava fruit and water compliments if the hotel. Absolutely delighted

Review 95:Elevators insufficient & slow. Needed more staff at reception.

Review 96:Balcony. Junior suite was roomy & comfortable. Buffet breakfast had very good sections!

Review 97:There is no parking near the hotel, even to drop off bags as the area is pedestrianised. Difficult to find if travelling there by car and you eventually give up, park the car somewhere and start walking. Limited hotel parking and you have to pay around 11 euros a day for it. If no availability in the hotel car park (about 100 yards away) then you have to use local parking at around 26 euros a day. We'll definitely be back but won't be bringing a car next time.

Review 98:Location was great, right at the focal point of a beautifully kept town. Interesting, old fashioned hotel with lots of different lounges and sunbathing areas. Staff very friendly but dining room busy at breakfast and tables limited.

Review 99:No bad experiences but food presentation in evening was variable. There is a buffet on 2 evenings each week where the choice and presentation was wide ranging and of excellent quality. This would be worth extending to most, if not, every evening. Staff were also far less 'stressed' on those buffet evenings.

Review 100:Location, view, comfortable hotel, friendly, helpful, hard working staff, excellent facilities, superb breakfast buffet

Review 101:Reception desk undermanned had to wait ages for beach towel collection Dangerous for old infirm people Shower to small Room 805 No iron in room No tea making facilities

Review 102:Location Breakfast

Review 103:Location, location, location - at the Balcon walkway and with its own little beach. Very nice reception area and outdoor tables, superb breakfast room views, very polite, helpful and friendly staff. very clean and comfortable room with a huge bed, fine breakfast (with Cava)

Review 104:The location of the property was great - near the town and great for the beach. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was great. We will be staying here again in the future

Review 105:The shower was a little difficult to work out.

Review 106:Location is fantastic. The staff were professional and courteous throughout from the reception to the bar staff to the cleaning staff. Breakfast had an excellent selection of both hot and cold dishes. Would definitely recommend.

Review 107:Although we booked a junior suite the room was disappointing with a poor view blocked by a wall. We requested a high floor but were allocated 2nd floor. A warning to others the hotel is so close to the sea that the noise from the sea crashing on the rocks kept us awake !!

Review 108:Location is excellent

Review 109:Service in dining room for dinner was a little erratic. Got deserts prior to main course!

Review 110:Lovely room, great bed, good lighting, very nice cheerful decor

Review 111:Price of drinks in the hotel bar but that's the norm with hotels

Review 112:Beautiful hotel, only stayed one night but loved it, superb location, wish we had booked longer

Review 113:Access by car. Got off to a bad start in a pedestrian-only zone, then nearly damaged the car on the steep access to the hotel car-park. Next time we'll park elsewhere and go on foot to the hotel.

Review 114:Very cool friendly & laid-back staff, especially in the breakfast room.

Review 115:We had no idea there was no vehicle access to the hotel and it was very hard to find because of this! However parking was available a short distance away from the hotel and we were shown this by the very helpful porter Danial who was an absolute star helping to carry our bags which were very heavy! And showing us back to the parking the following day yet again heaving our luggage as he went!!!

Review 116:The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel facilities were excellent, we wished we had longer time here to experience all the hotel had to offer. The location is spectacular with views of the mountains and direct sea views with a private beach and a heated pool and jacuzzi that looks out over the sea as the sun goes down..just perfect! The food was excellent and what a change to have waiter service rather than the usual buffet! We enjoyed it immensely and would stay again!

Review 117:Lift was slow and car park had very steep exit ramp

Review 118:Views, location, dining room, swimming pool area, beach, staff and food were all first class almost exceptional.

Review 119:One of my faviourite hotels in the world. Built on a cliff by the ocean. Spectacular views. The atmosphere is generous and the staff do everything to be kind and helpful.

Review 120:Inconvenience and cost of car parking at Euro 13 per day, but worth it for staying at this hotel.

Review 121:The hotel location is great, very short walk to local cafés and restaurants. Very good breakfast, Lovely sea view from hotel restaurant. Staff very helpful.

Review 122:Hotel car parking is difficult to reach.

Review 123:Very, very friendly staff. Spectacular views. Large breakfast selection, complemented by incredible views on the mediterranean from the restaurant on the 4th floor

Review 124:The hotel has its own safe and secure underground parking area, but make sure you know exactly how to reach it and the procedure for getting in.

Review 125:Everything, great staff!

Review 126:price.you can get a better hotel for a third of the price in Nerja. breakfast was big on variety but low on quality.poor choice english languish t.v. channels(about 80% of guests were english speaking during our stay)

Review 127:perfectly acceptable basic hotel

Review 128:Could have provided better directions for those that are driving, difficult to locate even using GPS. However, once you're there ...

Review 129:Location, staff was excellent from helping with parking the car as we were traveling through southern Spain, breakfast was great, great beach and able to walk through rock cuts to other areas,

Review 130:pool was a little small, no double bed just 2 singles pushed together, slow lift (needed to use it for buggy)

Review 131:beautiful spotlessly clean hotel, superb location, great food, access to the beach, really enjoyable stay and excellent holiday, intend to return

Review 132:we only had Bed & Breakfast. although the choice of food was superb. the cooked breakfast was cold & greasy.it wasn't put on hotplates.

Review 133:Hotel excellent

Review 134:The hotel is very comfortable & in a perfect location. Built into the cliff face right on the beach, our balcony was 30 feet from the shore. A room with a seaview is a must

Review 135:You cannot drive up to the entrance of the hotel. The street ends at a plaza which is a few minutes of walking to the hotel.

Review 136:The views from the hotel and proximity to shopping.
