Auberge Du Roua descritpion

This authentic Catalan mansion from the 18th century offers entirely refurbished accommodations, contemporary settings and all modern comforts.
The spacious suites, comfortable rooms, grounds planted with large palm trees, swimming-pool, and sweeping views overlooking the Pyrenees all contribute to a typical southern feeling. The subtle balance between tradition and modernity lends the Auberge Du Roua its uniqueness and defines its seaside character.
The restaurant serves the chef's deliciously fresh Mediterranean cuisine complemented by an excellent local wines list. You can enjoy your meals in the vaulted cellars or on the terrace.

Reviews for Auberge Du Roua

Review 1:Small gripe! Mirrors only in (large) bathroom.

Review 2:The calm and peaceful environment. Ideal location with large grounds. Excellent food served at relaxed pace. Easy walk into Argeles. Not too many bedrooms.

Review 3:I would have liked to be able to make a cup of tea in our room .felt the evening staff at dinner were not very friendly or very quick to do there job . The food was beautiful and I was sorry the staff didn't do it justice .

Review 4:Quiet ,very clean and friendly cleaning staff .

Review 5:The fact that we were unable to get anything to eat when we arrived in the afternoon.

Review 6:Everything was kept very clean and the food was excellent. Very peaceful and relaxing surroundings.

Review 7:The room was very comfortable and so was the bed. The pool area and the trees in the garden were refreshing (it was over 30°C while we were there). The breakfast was really good.

Review 8:If I have to make a comment it would be the price of the food and wine. Although both were of a high quality and very good. Could get expensive if you were to stop there for 2 weeks. Saying that a taxi ride into the village would take 3 or 4 mins so wouldn't be very expensive

Review 9:The hotel in general,location,pool,bedroom a d food

Review 10:Just about nothing, except for getting lost trying to find it without google map, was hard to find, but once there well worth it!!!!!!!! We'd go again in a heartbeat!!!!

Review 11:Just about everything!!! This place was so clean and fresh, surrounded by nature and lush flowers & trees. It's decorative and cozy. The menu: 5 star!!!!!!

Review 12:This is a beautiful hotel. It is cozy, clean, well maintained. The owner is super friendly and accommodating. They have restaurant on site, and food is delicious. This is our second time staying here.

Review 13:I think they were already closing for a Winter break, because they didn't seem interested in providing a service. There were no other guests except us three! No restaurant, which we had been counting on. We had a 95-year-old with us, but they didn't want to put on the heating - in November! Reluctantly, they agreed.

Review 14:The very cosy Nordic (duvet) and pillows. The tranquility. The breakfast. The large walk-in shower for a disabled person.

Review 15:Very little not to like. Only minor comment is that not all rooms have air conditioning but the ones that catch the most sun do so probably not a big problem and is quiet enough to leave windows open at night.

Review 16:Had a great five nights staying here. Location is excellent. Lovely gardens but only ten minutes walk to old city. Carol's recommendations on things to do were much more useful than any tourist office and we ate well every night avoiding tourist traps following her restaurant tips. Nice to swim in the pool on warm evenings too.

Review 17:Would have liked a coffee maker in the room.

Review 18:Quiet peaceful place to return to after a busy day. Pool and grounds are beautiful. We didnt eat in the restaurant but heard rave reviews

Review 19:limited parking space and especially, NO ONE at reception after 5 PM..One should take a mobile phone and make a call for information, reservations, etc..

Review 20:location,very calm, nice terrace and swimming pool, clean room, modern style but outside was very "historic",mansion style, good wifi connection

Review 21:Although the hotel doesn't have a view on it, guests can hear the busy road. Wifi signal is weak in room this could be improved. No laundry service.

Review 22:The hotel is very comfortable, quiet, beautiful garden, and a pleasant pool (water little chilly maybe). We enjoyed the excellent meals in the evening at the pool. Good wines. Friendly staff and perfect service.

Review 23:The roads to this place are real country roads and quite indirect. Going into town becomes a bigger deal even though the distance is not far.

Review 24:A lovely and tranquil setting with views of the foothills. It is very peaceful. The restaurant is excellent and open every evening when other restaurants are closed.

Review 25:Difficult to find but consider that a minor problem. The end result is well worth it.

Review 26:Very we'll run hotel. Owners friendly and very helpful. Restaurant is excellent. All facilities and ambience can be rated very highly. Must be rated first class and one of the best we have ever stayed in.

Review 27:Excellent place

Review 28:Bedroom too warm

Review 29:Excellent dinners

Review 30:Excellent place with delicious food!

Review 31:It was so peaceful

Review 32:The bathroom smelt like a public toilet and needed some refurbishment very dated

Review 33:Not too far from the beach and good food and location

Review 34:Car needed as situated a bit out of the way.

Review 35:In nice settings with very friendly staff.

Review 36:Poor wi-fi

Review 37:Superb dinner

Review 38:Nothing.

Review 39:We enjoyed our stay here, very friendly, helpful staff, lovely room and decor, peaceful location. Very nice restaurant and food.

Review 40:Poor choice at breakfast, bedroom and bathroom in need of refurbishment

Review 41:Food, Quiet room, outside restaurant setting.

Review 42:We just love the peaceful location. The very helpfully and friendly staff and if this is not enough to make our stay so lovely, just take a look at the fantastic food that is prepared by a really great chef. Of course, we will be back again.

Review 43:Not the easiest place to find so watch out for direction signs from town!

Review 44:The peace and quiet, restaurant and menu amazing, superb breakfast. Just a lovely place to stay.

Review 45:Located far from city, not trivial to find it

Review 46:Food in the restaurant was great, amazing breakfast and dinner. Staff were nice and the hotel is clean and beautiful!

Review 47:We were disappointed that there was no choice with demi pension menu for dinner so we changed to a la carte. The menu remained the same for the entire week. We would have appreciated more variety. The wine list though extensive was very expensive and ther was no 'house wine'. There was no comfortable seating area within the hotel.

Review 48:Quality of the cuisine was very good.Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was well situated.

Review 49:Too far out and road noise. The area, especially the local beaches were truly ghastly and touristic.

Review 50:Very comfortable and the room was appointed to a high standard.

Review 51:No safe in room (an unfortunate omission considering otherwise good quality of hotel)

Review 52:Old building beautifully restored Large bedroom Excellent restaurant Quiet location

Review 53:We did not appreciate when we booked that this hotel strives to be a gourmet center. Consequently we were surprised at the prices of the meals and the wines. Probably OK for those who know a little more about such things. We ate two evening meals there - one delicious the other a complete catastrophy and were surprised when the waitress and management didn´t react to the nearly uneaten meal returned to the kitchen. Perhaps we should have protested harder. We ate elswhere after that evening.

Review 54:We booked a suite as it was the last room available and we thought it was very expensive for what it was, a large extra room with two armchairs. I would have liked a bath for the price we paid. The breakfast at 11.50 per person is also expensive for what is on offer. And finally, the atmosphere was a little unfriendly, we were turned down when we asked for help in booking a trip on one occassion, also the notices instructing us not to keep food in the fridge etc. did not make us feel welcome.

Review 55:Restaurant excellent

Review 56:Superb small hotel a few minutes drive from Argeles village. Very helpful & friendly staff. Clean, spacious room. Relaxing atmosphere. Excellent restaurant, not your average a la carte

Review 57:Nothing to dislike!

Review 58:Quiet and away from the tourist drag of the beach front. Very tastefully decorated and light and airy rooms with the emphasis on comfort. Soothing country views. Lovely happy welcoming staff. Great restaurant - we had an outstanding meal there and breakfast was also excellent.

Review 59:I really cannot think of any negatives for this hotel, it is on the outskirts of Argeles, but to me that is a bonus as it gives opportunity to explore the beautiful surrounding area

Review 60:I loved my stay here and I will definitely stay again next time I am in the area. I love the location as it is at the bottom of the beautiful hills and mountains, there is a motorway close, but I don't feel it affected the tranquillity of the area. The hotel was lovely and the gardens and terrace are picture perfect. The breakfast was lovely with excellent coffee. The staff are helpful and friendly. I really recommend this hotel.

Review 61:There is nothing we didn't like. The access roads were not in verygood condition - but that is not the fault of the hotel. It would havebeen nice to have been able to relax in a bar, but its absence was madeup for by the attentive staff and the possibility of having a drink bythe pool or in the room overlooking it.

Review 62:Everything. The welcome was efficient and friendly. The staff werehelpful and charming. The room was comfortable and very good value formoney. The cooking was remarkably good (we live in France and are usedto good cooking, but this was well above average). As we take our mainmeal at lunchtime, we especially liked the "mini menus"available for dinner: the chef clearly paid as much attention to theseas to the gourmet dishes.

Review 63:Difficult to find from town- one way system and no signage. No bell at Reception- had to hunt for staff to check-in. Incredibly noisy outside due to main road. Given superior room with view of road!!

Review 64:Food excellent. Pool looked great, lovely grounds - pity about road-noise. Would recommend for restaurant.

Review 65:There was absolutely no sense of welcome or interest by theproprietors/staff although the room maid was pleasant. We were not evenshown to our room, having been given an incorrect key. At no stage over4 days did anyone inquire if things were satisfactory. This is not athree star hotel as it claims. It is a fine restaurant - indeed a veryfine one - with rooms attached. We reserved a superior room. It wasquite cramped and without many of the normal facilities of a good hotelsuch as a stocked mini bar, coffee making kit etc. There was one bar ofsoap in the bathroom, not a drop of gel or shampoo. I would not care tothink what an 'inferior' room would be like. There is a pool here insummer but out of season there is no bar or lounge or space to relax forguests. Eat here by all means, but stay elsewhere.

Review 66:The restaurant is excellent. The location is good and the rural settingis refreshing.

Review 67:Need to drive to beach and to bars unless using the pool and hotel bar.

Review 68:Very relaxing stay. Food in the restaurant is excellent, probably the best we've had. The Chapel on the hill nearby is worth a look for a short spin and a walk.

Review 69:there are no facilities in the room to make your own drinks (tea, coffee etc) and the info pack in the room asks you not to consume food bought off site in the hotel and not in your room - in fact 'personal picnics are not welcome' - and seeing as there are no facilities on site to have lunch then you have to go out. if you want one of those lazy days doing nothing but swimming and reading then you can't... not being able to go and buy a baguette and some cheese and charcuterie, and snack in the garden or our room restricted us.

Review 70:the room was stylish and very clean, very comfy bed and lovely bathroom. really nice swimming pool and views from the garden where loungers are provided. The food in the restaurant is very good - modern presentation and well executed, and eating on the terrace by the pool at dusk is lovely. the service when you dine is unobtrusive.

Review 71:The place is difficult to find with very poor track type lanes for thelast part. Totally confused the sat-nav. Staff were helpful when youcould find them. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room with noeating or drinking in rooms, which we thought a strange rule as it'sonly 3 star. The restaurant food was good but 3 star with 5 starprices, sorry.

Review 72:The Auberge in it's self was very interesting, with it's querky layout.Sparsley furnished but adequate. The room we had was very quiet with aview of pyrenees. It was nice to see the swallows nesting inside thethroughway.

Review 73:Set just on the edge of the older city part of Argeles with the edge ofthe mountains overhead...gorgeous at night with all the stars...yes, theautoroute is just next to it, but we didn't have much problem with noiseand we slept with the windows open...it is not a little b&b as it seemson the listing...it is actually a smaller-sized hotel...however, thequality/price is great...and the pool and outdoor patio area is reallyrelaxing. I would not imagine to bring young children here. It has muchmore of an adult ambiance (for example, the restaurant is overlookingthe pool)...we really enjoyed our 3 day stay: we were looking for arelaxing break from the city. And we found it.

Review 74:Restaurant was overpriced.

Review 75:Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 76:standard room was rather small; located close to main road, on the outskirts of Argelès

Review 77:beautiful swimming pool; nice breakfast; friendly staff

Review 78:Breakfast was ordinary

Review 79:Very friendly. A lovely relaxing hotel and superb food.

Review 80:Difficult to find hotel No safe in room

Review 81:Free wifi Large rooms

Review 82:nothing

Review 83:pool area

Review 84:A little hard to find without a GPS

Review 85:Very peaceful setting. Great place to relax after hours of driving.

Review 86:Setting is breathtaking, hotel is styled superbly, pool is perfect and food in restaurant heavenly!Staff are super attentative and discreet.Parfait!

Review 87:The food was excellent Great location for what I wanted

Review 88:It lacks the peronal touch - a bit too minimalistic.

Review 89:The excellent Restaurant

Review 90:Quality bedding, super clean room and facilities. The restaurantwas fabulous.

Review 91:Air conditioning didn't cool rooms adequately.

Review 92:Vey friendly staff. Very clean rooms.

Review 93:Nothing!

Review 94:If you are after a relaxing break with good food look no further!
