Reviews for Cottage Hôtel
Review 1:In Industrial area with no where to walk to with people and atmosphere
Review 2:Easy access from Port and well away from trouble areas. Good stop over and reasonably priced
Review 3:Very convenient from the Calais ferry port. Easy to get to and from the major roads. Rooms were small but adequate. Very quiet and dark for sleeping in.
Review 4:The water drained from the sink came up through the shower plughole when the tap was fully opened.
Review 5:Very friendly and helpful staff. A snack out of normal designated meal time was provided when requested. Location is perfect for Channel Tunnel (literally a 3-minute drive away). Very comfortable bed and good value for money overall. Pets are allowed in the dining area as well as the rooms.
Review 6:The internet although connected didn't work when complained the receptionist just said it's on and shrugged her shoulders not much use when I rely on it for business . Breakfast was awful what a waste of money in fact what a cheek even charging for it that's how awful it was . I stayed her before it was fine that time and this time was total opposite . Shower didn't work properly and was noisy .
Review 7:It had a kettle and tea .
Review 8:Rooms are very small with average old looking bathroom and shower but surprisingly good pressure. Not enough towels for four, had toaskfor more. No soap or shampoo and when asked for hand soap wastold there was none. Will not be going there again!
Review 9:Good pressure with the shower. Clean sheets.
Review 10:Shower needs upgrading. Soap dispenser empty. Hotel a bit expensive for facilities provided.
Review 11:We liked the staff. They were very helpful. Dog friendly. Breakfast is very good.
Review 12:We've stayed here many, many times en route to and from our place in SW France, and have learned to skip breakfast as it's €10 and not very good. However, this time it was free and we noticed the jams and bread had improved since our last breakfast (and the cheese was no longer straight from the fridge). On the downside, the Lavazza machine has been replaced by a Nespresso.
Review 13:Dogs welcome and free wifi everywhere. Ten minutes from the ferry terminal and only a couple of minutes from the autoroute. Petrol station round the corner and Aldi a few hundred metres down the road means you can stock up with essentials before continuing the journey. The restaurant isn't great, but it's acceptable and saves having to go out to eat after a long day of driving.
Review 14:Pretty much everything
Review 15:The two members if staff working where reasonable although too busy sneaking off to serve us! The restaurant service and food was terrible and seriously overpriced! I've been staying here for 15 years and this was the first time I've had an awful experience. The only nice thing was the beds and bedding.
Review 16:We were allocated room 100 which turned out to be a single room with a double bed in it. The bed was hard up against the wall to the bathroom and therefore uncomfortable for one of us to get into the bed. We have stayed at the Cottage Hotel many times before and have never been offered such a room and it felt like an insult. We returned to Reception and said we were not happy with the room and it was changed to room 220 which was more what we have been used to in the past. I still think it was a cheek to try to pass us off with a small room and may not stay there again. The restaurant and car park were relatively empty so it did not appear that they were short of rooms, which reinforced our feeling that we were being short-changed.
Review 17:The restuarant waiting staff were attentive and efficient. We enjoyed our meal.
Review 18:The room is overpriced for what it is.. I was charged 13.euros for veg soup and bread! The rooms need updating. after checking in I went into the Town then I came back from the Town to the Hotel specifically for what I saw on the Menu which was Fish soup only to be told it wasn't being served.!
Review 19:the staff. the cleanliness.
Review 20:After using the Cottage Hotel for 25 years its in need of a little spruce up. not a complaint just an observation.
Review 21:Easy access to the whole of Calais, centre, ferry, shuttle and shops.
Review 22:there was a bit of confusion over whether they had taken payment before our arrival but it was all sorted out.
Review 23:we got a ground floor room as requested.very nice food, excellent breakfast.plenty of parking for our van.really nice little hotel.it was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:Just off the motorway this is our hotel of choice when crossing the channel. The staff are welcoming and provide quick checking in and out and are used to late arrivals and early starts. There is a bar and restaurant providing reasonable meals. The bedrooms are small but the bed is comfortable and the shower hot.
Review 26:Room a bit small for two, and the breakfast and dinner menu didn't change during the 3 nights we spent there.
Review 27:Good facilities in the room in spite of it being a bit small. Nice staff.
Review 28:The location is perfect for reaching the port easily. The Manageress and her front of house staff (Virginie and Geoffrey) were excellent, all of them taking time to interact with guests. Well done to everyone.
Review 29:The waitress in the restaurant was a little careless. No menu presented before dinner, for example.
Review 30:Everything was in order and perfectly satisfactory for an evening before the ferry.
Review 31:Clean comfortable beds. Have stayed here often. Location is good for ferry or tunnel. The restaurant used to be very good but has lost it's way a little. Would still go again though.
Review 32:Clean, functional hotel, with reasonable, if a little expensive, restaurant. Comfortable room with very comfortable bed. Convenient for eurotunnel and a short drive to beach and about 20 minutes walk to town centre.
Review 33:Asked for a room with no security lights outside but ours (103) was next to some very strong ones with the light shining in all round the windows despite blackout lining.
Review 34:Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff throughout our stay.
Review 35:The hotel are not offering any special deals in the restaurant any more which is very sad.
Review 36:The hotel is close to the Tunnel and the motorway. It is warm and the staff are friendly.
Review 37:Even though I have been there for many years and in the beginning never paid for my dog in the last few times they have charged for the dog but when I query it the charge is taken off. I never pay for my dog in any other hotel in France and I have been to several. There was also no buffet start and sweet this time which I missed and that made my evening meal much dearer. I am questioning whether I will stay there again.
Review 38:The staff are very accomodating
Review 39:We were disappointed that there was not the usual buffet on in the evening. We were in the restaurant for 7pm We ordered off the menu and even though the food was good, the wait was very long, 30mins for the starter and 1hr for the main course. It was also expensive. There were only 2 other couples eating all night, we were the first to order. We didn't wait for the sweet as we were starting to fall asleep in our plate as we had been travelling all day. We also skipped breakfast, as we were worried that we would not make the time of our crossing if the staff had delayed us as they had the night before.
Review 40:We have stayed at the cottage many times over the past few years due to it's easy access to the channel Tunnel. The rooms are good, you get what you pay for. The staff were very helpful.
Review 41:clean comfortable and quiet. five minutes from the ferry port and shopping, we overnitght here before heading south and again on the way home always welcoming,
Review 42:The first room allocated had been smoked in but this was sorted for us straight away.
Review 43:The restaurant was of a surprisingly good stardard & the property easy to locate & access.
Review 44:Totally unacceptable noise during the night, guests were shouting up and down the corridor from 3 am through to 6am
Review 45:Very convenient location and good food in the restaurant
Review 46:The shower is over a small tub and a bit difficult to get in and out of and a bit confined.
Review 47:Cheap and cheerful. Just a stop over before driving to the ferry. Staff welcoming and friendl. Bed comfortable.
Review 48:shower in rm 100 only had water coming out of half the jets - possible limescale problem . What I am always concerned about is that there is a large visible sign in the driveway advising that the carpark is not covered by cctv - whilst this is ok for travellers to be aware of - it is also visible to would-be burglars - it would be much better if the notice was inside the hotel - for the information of the guests only. Saying this I have stayed at this hotel more than 10 times, and have never heard of any trouble, but this year I felt more apprehensive and cautious about covering all car items out of sight.
Review 49:convenience, cost . acessability from tunnel, great starting point to travel through france. Food k helpful resto staff and reception. Overall it is a comfortable place to stay for solo travellers like myself
Review 50:Pleasant friendly staff, good meal, clean room with all conveniences, comfortable bed, close to ferry port - exactly what I wanted and exactly what I got.
Review 51:Not shown to our room Lots of stairs to our room Restaurant food not the best
Review 52:nice room with en suite friendly reception bar and restaurant in reception area
Review 53:Just what you need for channel crossing stop over. Especially like the no fuss WiFi that just works. We've stayed here a few times so don't even need to log in. The restaurant is good too.
Review 54:We've stayed here several times a year for several years, but can't really recommend the breakfast as good value (or indeed good!) Instead we prefer to get a flying start on the autoroute or ferry and have something a bit later.
Review 55:Location, location.... Handy for the autoroute and ferry terminal Convenient after a long day of driving to just frshen up and fall into the restaurant; hopefully the food won't be your best meal in France but it's OK and saves hunting around for somewhere when you're tired. The free wifi always works and the beds are firm and comfortable (but you may need to ask for an extra pillow)
Review 56:It's not in the best condition! But if your only looking for a bed to get your head down for the night it's fine, but I would not recommend it otherwise.
Review 57:Good location and easy access for the Euro tunnel. Used as a stopover. Friendly staff.
Review 58:I chose the hotel for it's location near the Hertz rental location. It was within walking distance. There were several restaurants nearby, including fast food.
Review 59:Convenience for our channel tunnel bookings. Good car parking facilities on site. We can have an evening meal at the hotel - recommend the buffet options - without having to go into Calais which is great after a long drive.
Review 60:I've stayed here over a dozen times n the last four years, but only had breakfast the first time!
Review 61:1) Convenient location for the autoroute and ferry terminal 2) Hotel restaurant saves having to go out for dinner after a day on the road. 3) Usually travelling with a dog and the hotel is pet friendly. 4) Free, reasonably fast wi-fi throughout the building. 5) The car park seems secure and well-lit.
Review 62:Terrible restaurant service for the evening meal. Over an hour wait for food (we were told there was a problem with the oven though we didn't have baked dishes). Very bad. Don't eat there for a meal (other than breakfast which was self service)
Review 63:Convenient. Secure carpark. Friendly staff.
Review 64:The room wasn't cleaned properly, when we pulled out the bed for our daughter the blanket had hair and animal hair on as the floor hadn't been cleaned properly.
Review 65:It's on the outskirts of Calais and you have to find a taxi (there are not many in Calais and no taxi rank that I could find), but if you have your own transport then no problem.
Review 66:I liked the food, the staff and the relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant and the standard of food was particularly good.
Review 67:A bit dated throughout but very clean!
Review 68:Stayed for one night with 2 small children after getting a late ferry. No problems with late check in, staff very friendly and rooms absolutely spotless. Shower good and very powerful
Review 69:The staff were really friendly, and it was really convenient for getting to the Eurotunnel the next day. The dinner was reasonably good. The staff are also bilingual.
Review 70:Nothing...all excellent. Will stay here again.
Review 71:Close to the Eurotunnel..very clean, rooms really spacious, really friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel for an overnight stay. You can't go wrong.
Review 72:Very warm welcome from helpful staff. The quality of the hotel is very good considering the price. Restaurant was perfectly adequate if not anything specal and again very good value for money.
Review 73:The evening meal was disappointing no starter buffet and not much choice for the main meal. I think it has changed hands over the last 2 years hence the decline of the restaurant.
Review 74:Friendly and efficient service. During our recent visit we arrived late but food was provided, Excellant. There was a fire in the kitchen which was handled very well without drama.
Review 75:Excellent location. Close to Auchan supermarket. Close to motorway to Boulogne. Only 5 minutes from downtown Calais but just far away enough to avoid coming into contact with the migrants. Safe private parking area.
Review 76:Food wasn't great especially for the price. I couldn't eat mine. And I never turn down steak and chips!
Review 77:Good location just a shame about all the road noise
Review 78:not a bad experience but breakfast is no longer included in the price. it is available at a cost of 9euros per person which i find pricey for a continental offering
Review 79:location, just off motorway 5 mins from calais ferry terminal and close to eurotunnel. ideal for first night stop over or going the other way a last night stop with an early start for a crossing to the uk ,also good for a short stay following the opal coast
Review 80:When we arrived at the hotel they couldn't find our reservation. I showed them my copy but they weren't interested. They offered us only 1 room saying that was all they had,and that they would charge me double the rate. I rang booking.com and spoke to customer service who rang the hotel and sorted out the problem
Review 81:Good location, comfortable, clean and value for your money
Review 82:No food at all available after 10:30.. Even no snacks at the bar. The curtain in the shower was rather old and the decor is extremely cheap.
Review 83:The location is great for those who is travelling to UK. The bar was open until late. The staff was very pleasant.
Review 84:Used this hotel after coming over on the tunnel. Very conveniently located a 5 minute drive from the tunnel. Friendly staff and all the facilities we wanted - a restaurant, a bar, secure free parking, wi-fi and tea and coffee facilities in the room. Will definitely use it again.
Review 85:The distance to city centre is as a crow flis and fails to mention that it is in an industrial area on the wrong side of the tracks. It is a 10-15 minuter walk into the city centre so it is not that bad but don't get fooled by the pictures.
Review 86:Very easy to find. I had lost my ticket for the boat and they were very helpful in printing me another copy. There was a strike on at the time at the port of Calais and the staff went out of their way to find out what was happening for us.
Review 87:Restaurant shut on the night we were there. Breakfast not quite so good as usual.
Review 88:Quick check in and the WiFi is excellent. Good selection of channels on the tv. Close to where we wanted to be and only a 15 minute walk to the centre of Calais.
Review 89:The rooms could definitely use a serious renovation and with a baby the room was rather small.
Review 90:The staff were very nice and kind and very helpful. For a 1 night stay over was good.
Review 91:We use the Cottage hotel several times a year. It is close to the Motorway and the entrance to the tunnel. An excellent over night stop over while travelling back and forward from England.
Review 92:long wait at reception, receptionist was trying to make an English booking on the telephone when we arrived for over ten minutes. WIFI signal very poor. unsecure car parking and notice advising you not to leave anything in your car at reception no room to walk down one side of the bed, which was strange as the bathroom was fitted out for disabled.(not requested). only 2 flat pillows on bed, but the receptionist did get us more from a vacant room.
Review 93:the hotel is welcoming from the outside , has a restaurant on site if you need it but was little used when we were there. clean.
Review 94:It takes forever to check in and there are no facilities to pay for your meal in the restaurant. Meals are of a poor standard and you need to pay at reception, even paying cash prepare for a long wait (take your sleeping bag and grab a nap). No visa payment could be made due to issues with their connection. Wifi is intermittent also.
Review 95:It's a very basic 2* hotel. Rooms are of a good standard and was clean.
Review 96:I had asked for a non smoking room, but it stank of cigarette smoke. Breakfast adequate but expensive at €9.50 per person
Review 97:Exactly what we wanted, convenient for the tunnel, room basic but clean. Evening meal very good value, plenty of choice. Staff speak English and the menus were also in English. Tea and coffee facilities in the room.
Review 98:The hotel is very dated, the room was damp and smelly
Review 99:Very close to the Eurotunnel entry/exit, so convenient if you have a late / early crossing
Review 100:We've stayed here regularly largely due to its proximity to the Channel Tunnel. It is comfortable and the food is good but not elaborate. The staff are welcoming.
Review 101:We did not have a car and relied on punlic transport. Being able to have all 3 meals at the hotel was a necedsity. The food was well priced with variety and cooked by a chef.
Review 102:The hotel was very clean and well presented. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made you feel at home. The hotel has a well stocked bar, dining room and lounge area which all have a rlaxing atmosphere.
Review 103:A minor irritation was the other guests loading cars at six in the morning but we're still there when I had breakfast at 7,30. Not the hotel's fault
Review 104:The hotel was clean and comfortable and very convenient for Eurotunnel which was my main reason for staying. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 105:Breakfast was less appetising and small in selection, we decided not to try in the morning before our onward journey.
Review 106:Staff were very friendly and gave good service. Restaurant and bar area good for size of hotel and had a warm atmosphere. Food was good and served quickly on the whole a good experience.
Review 107:The breakfast was very disappointing, and it is not worth the €10!
Review 108:The hotel is literally 5 minutes from the Eurotunnel check in, with a few restaurants nearby. The wifi was free and fast enough to browse webpages and read your emails.
Review 109:The room was much too small, could not get in and out of bed. The bed was very very low. The pillows were poor. One coat hanger in the wardrobe. The wifi signal was very poor kept losing signal every 4-5 minutes.the only place you got a better signal was in the toilet. The room could have done with painting.
Review 110:The Carpark.The staff.
Review 111:It is pretty bog-standard motel and we had a disabled room. The toilet was elevated and had help handles but a large person would struggle to sit on it! The double bed was situated against the bathroom wall so for that side person could not get in or out!
Review 112:Location and staff
Review 113:I had a bit of back ache after sleeping in the bed.
Review 114:We always enjoy having dinner here with our pet dog. You have to eat in the bar but that's not a problem. Staff are always very friendly and kind.
Review 115:Very helpful staff, we stayed overnight with our 15 month old granddaughter and nothing was too much trouble - they provided a cot, heated her food and were very accommodating when she sat with us in the restaurant. The food in the restaurant was well cooked and good value; they even catered for one vegetarian without any fuss. Would definitely stay here again! Lovely food and
Review 116:Hair drier did not work and no temporary replacement was available. Toilet could have been cleaner.
Review 117:We had a very nice dinner and the price was very good. All staff were nice and made us feel welcome.
Review 118:Night porter was lacking in usefulness. Party above us kept us awake until the early hours. Had to sort it out myself after night porter failed to have any effect.
Review 119:Reception and restaurant staff Convenience for port Value and reliability
Review 120:Small room, even smaller shower.
Review 121:Very welcoming staff, good parking, good breakfast choices. Restaurant offers wide choice of meals at reasonable prices. Rooms quite small but OK for an overnight stop, dog friendly hotel.
Review 122:Nothing at all,
Review 123:Accessibility, friendly staff, clean, comfortable and breakfast good too. Nothing is too much to ask anytime day or night , excellent customer service, UK please note!
Review 124:None .............
Review 125:The hotel was more comfortable than expected, although the bar was not the cheapest the staff were friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was keenly priced and well-presented. The rooms were comfortable and there was PLENTY of free parking. We arrived late and were able to park a Sprinter with ease. Sadly can't comment on breakfast as we were away before it started. Recommended for a single night if up early in the morning AND, where a good nights sleep is important
Review 126:We found the bedroom very small with inadequate storage space, but OK for a one night stay.
Review 127:Very pleasant and helpful English speaking staff. The bedrooms are small but comfortable and the restaurant food is good.
The Fine Print
