Reviews for Hotel Restaurant Mas Palou

Review 1:the sauna/hot tub in common area not hot. but the sauna tub in private bathroom was fabulous!

Review 2:beautiful setting and beautiful facilities. warm staff waited for me to arrive and helped me get down the side of the mountain to reach them.

Review 3:Poor accommodation standard eg-refuse first and second room offered .Reluctantly accept third option . Breakfast ie optional extra -very basic even for continental . and no further catering till March eg ' dinner or snacks . Cant remember a catrastophie of this ilk for years. .

Review 4:Leaving two nights early

Review 5:WIFI doesn't reach rooms. Restaurant closed during off season. Door to Hotel has a deadbolt lock which cannot be opened without a key and windows have bars...during an emergency such as a fire this could be extremely dangerous

Review 6:Location, staff

Review 7:Female staff unhelpful Internet connection in room problematic because of thickness of walls, restaurant not functioning

Review 8:Comfort of room, good heating system in room, nice location, male staff very helpful

Review 9:In the beginning was problems with English communication while English-speaking guy was invited.

Review 10:Room in an old building was extreamely clean and romantic, with bubble bath etc. Easy to find location just 5 minutes drive to Roses.

Review 11:...except when the restaurant guests and their children are noisy into the late evening(but it was a festival weekend). The room was a bit gloomy (nice thick walls, but low level lighting). The toilet in the room may not be to everyone's taste

Review 12:Lovely big bed, big room, nice pool, decent continental breakfast, out of town, so nice and quiet...

Review 13:The room had no window!! It was built into the side of the hill, and there was only a small skylight in the bathroom to let in any natural light. Most unpleasant. We hadn't been warned about this, and the price we paid was relatively high, equivalent to a 3-star hotel. Also we'd asked for a Non-Smoking room, but it wasn't marked as such, and clearly the previous guest had been smoking as it stank of stale smoke. With the lack of a window, it was difficult to clear the smell, even with the aircon full on and the door open. We asked for a change of room but was told the hotel was full and this wasn't possible. The staff were unhelpful. After considerable complaining in the morning we were given a small amount of money as compensation. The restaurant is dark, and there were flies on the mediocre breakfast buffet. There was no milk set out for the cereals, and it had to be asked for separately from the bar, in between waiting for individual coffees to be made. We'd definitely not go back.

Review 14:Attractive location

Review 15:Beautiful rooms With a lot of Space and air, Nice bathrooms. Very quiet and relaxing, also the pool-area. Wonderful atmosphere in romantic old stone houses surrounded by olive-trees and wine yards.

Review 16:Not enough attention to detail for a so-called 3* hotel - wicker chairs unraveling; ant-traps in full view; scruffy gardens in the hotel front and parking area; parking area spoils the view as it's in the wrong place; not enough storage in the rooms (no drawers); only one chair in a double room and one side light (that didn't work so had not been checked); dinner plates, glasses and used napkins from the previous night left out at breakfast; staff not trained well and too casual; no obvious checking-in place; damp/mouldy bathroom; spa room accessible via a building site; stained cushions on the outside seats

Review 17:The location and ease of access to the Cap de Creus is great. It's a good place to base yourself for to explore the area. The restaurant is good value and quality and the breakfasts offer a good selection of local dishes. Fantastic old building.

Review 18:A/C in bathroom was not working and the A/C in the bed room was very noisy even when turned off. The staff, although very enthusiastic, seemed inexperienced.

Review 19:The spa bath was very good

Review 20:The air conditioning was very noisy but essential!!!

Review 21:The house is in a beautiful location. The room we stayed in was enormous and cleaned every day. Bed was large and comfortable. The staff are lovely and helpful, breakfast is lovely and fresh.

Review 22:The bathroom was large but not well designed. It seemed that the WC was an afterthought. The brown curtain in the bathroom made the entire suite rather gloomy, particularly as the weather was bad, and there was only one chair in the bedroom. There were no bedside tables and no ceiling lights.

Review 23:The large comfortable bedroom and excellent en-suite facilities. Excellent value for money with a good Dutch style (ham, boiled egg and cheese) breakfast thrown in. Very helpful management. The surroundings were tranquil and access to the town and local tourist attractions was easy.

Review 24:Walls seem to be to thin and, depending on neighbouring rooms' guests, one might get disturbed.

Review 25:Excellent treatment by the owners who were most helpful with anything we requested. Superb breakfast and stunning environment

Review 26:Only three elements. 1. Needs a towel rail in the bathroom, otherwise wet towels if you stay for longer than one night. 2. The windows should open. 3. The hard landscaping from the car park to the front door needs improvement.

Review 27:It was in a quiet location in a nature reserve. Great views to the sea from the grounds. Great views to the mountains. Superb breakfast.

Review 28:the bed is not very comfortable restaurant was under construction, we had a lot of noise some spiderweb in the wall corner

Review 29:the hotel is really nice and authentic spa is really nice room with jacuzzi

Review 30:Damp room with dehumidifier on constantly. Mould on bathroom ceiling from previous flooding? Cold tiles on floor no carpet. Radiators and fridge not working. No water to drink or glasses, not even plastic ones. No restaurant.

Review 31:Grounds. Pets allowed.

Review 32:Tea and coffee making facilities in the room would be a bonus.

Review 33:convenient for Roses. Lovely old building. Good range of breakfast. Dog friendly. Very helpful staff. Nice restaurant. Been there three times and will go again !

Review 34:Behind our bedroom there was a mechanical noise ( an air-conditioning apparatus perhaps ?) which was annoying.

Review 35:A lovely secluded ancient mas away from the busy resorts. Nice pool, indoor pool/jacuzzi, pretty courtyard, beautiful landscaping, lovely walks... Great food, helpful & friendly staff. Although very smart, luxurious & peaceful it has a very relaxed and informal atmosphere. Great value.

Review 36:basement room, no regular window, bad ventilation. blackouts during thunderstorms.

Review 37:great location and building but not all rooms should be let. Great breakfast, nice staff.

Review 38:The tap water had a strong smell of chlorine for the first two days. The hair dryer did not work.

Review 39:Located five minutes from Roses but very quiet with access to footpaths into the mountains. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool is excellent.

Review 40:Poor quality breakfast. The wi-fi does not work properly. The price of the room is a bit to high for the kind of property and facilities offered.

Review 41:Good location in an ancient building in quite sorroundings. Good restaurant, quite cheap and with quality food.

Review 42:Towels only changed once during 7 day stay. WIFI only available inside by the bar in the Restaurant, nuisance. Sun loungers need updating. Canvas ones slack and your left lying on steel rods, plastic ones are not adjustable so end up flat all the time. Owners dogs pooped in car park area and outside rooms, not cleared up. Would like to have had a room where toilet was separate to spa tub and bedroom. Very busy with locals at weekends using Restaurant and pool, became very noisy sometimes. Take games to play. Go on trips and see other places and small coves.

Review 43:Loved the Hotel and Restaurant. Staff were incredible. Food good. Breakfast OTT, but for some people would be fine. Overall good because of staff, building delightful and food good.

Review 44:Not clean, unprofessional service, outdated rooms that are kept in bad shape. Therefore not worth the money

Review 45:Location

Review 46:Understaffed off-season. Breakfast buffet quickly runs out of the local produces, arrive early or missed out on the goodies.

Review 47:Looks good on booking.com

Review 48:Casual, open-air dinner. Rustic location

Review 49:It wasn't any thing about Mas Palou it was with Roses itself problem is finding anywhere to park

Review 50:Very pleasant surroundings well presented

Review 51:Breakfast: some basic products were missing, they ran out of cereals!!! Not really clean...

Review 52:Spacious rooms and bathroom

Review 53:-Swimming pool and rooms not very clean (wet smell) -Staff not very helpful

Review 54:Bathroom with no door

Review 55:Structure

Review 56:V weak wifi only available in reception. Dinner ok but service a bit casual.

Review 57:nice building

Review 58:The restaurant served excellent value for money meals.

Review 59:slipped down stairs

Review 60:whole set up

Review 61:Room was very nice with stone walls. We had a very nice dinner

Review 62:all rooms are different but al are so nice. it was the second time in the hotel and for sure not the last one. good food also

Review 63:The room was so different with the corner jacuzzi bath a bonus. Breakfast also very good.

Review 64:Location - natural setting surrounded by olive groves just outside of Roses. Good restaurant which is great value for money. Great breakfast.

Review 65:horrible staff

Review 66:it has potential

Review 67:Perfect nature location. Great value for money! lovely breakfast!

Review 68:Menu acceptable but overpriced. Rooms not especially luxurious. No Wi-fi. I guess the price reflected the existence of a pool and jacuzzi, which were nice, but non-essential. Would have preferred better rooms.

Review 69:Beautiful house and situation among the pines overlooking the bay.

Review 70:No tea or coffee making facilities in the room or bottled water.

Review 71:Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice big room and hotel in a lovely setting with distant sea views. Close to Roses. Dog friendly hotel.

Review 72:Many of the rooms have no separation between bedroom and bathroom, other than a small screen that blocks the view of the toilet itself.

Review 73:Breakfast very good; great choice of Catalan sausages/meats and cheeses. Location ideal for natural park, Cadaques and Costa Brava, Figueres, Pyrenees a stone's throw from Roses, yet very secluded and peaceful.

Review 74:Towels smelled of insecticide. Dark.

Review 75:Very good location. Helpful staff. Large, if dark, room. I noticed that they have put up a partition between bathroom and bedroom. Good, basic breakfast.

Review 76:Lovely room with a spa bath. Breakfast buffet good. Restaurant was not open unfortunately as it was out of season. it's lovely in the summer!

Review 77:Shower flooded almost the whole bathroom, very thin towels, horrible decor, poor wifi, location is in middle of nowhere, we just went for a cheap hotel nearby Cadaques and Roses and it served its purpose, max 2 nights!

Review 78:Very comfortable bed, large room, good aircon, rain shower, cheap

Review 79:There is no walls between toilet and bed. On 1-st floor people from street can see when you going to toilet... Good only for 1 night.

Review 80:Old building, swimming pool, nice restaraunt.

Review 81:We stayed 3 nights at this hotel which is a modern renovated old Spanish Masia. The room was very nice, sure, they could have insert a door between the room and the bathroom :) but if you are not newly in love, it is not a problem. We were allowed to take our Labrador with us without any extra charge. The lovely waiter Antonio who speaks obviousely all kind of languages gives you the feeling to be very welcome. Gracias Antonio :) The pool is nice and surrounded by grass and lovely old, big trees. We really liked our stay there and if we are ever again in this area, we will come back. Oh yes, and the food was also nice.

Review 82:The toilet was inside the room and had no walls to isolate it from thesleeping area. Strange. On top of this the sewerage system had someproblems as heavy smell invaded the room. Survived for one night.

Review 83:Nice and quiet positionig, nice buiding. Very good breakfast.

Review 84:we only had a small issue with the bathroom. it floods easily. but compared to all the other benefits of the place it is no big deal

Review 85:Authentic place with a very quiet surrounding, super for a romantic weekend! The restaurant and the food there is soooo good, I wish I could have dinner there again. Staff is amazing, very friendly and welcoming.

Review 86:Central heating did`t work. Air condition make warm, but sometimes not enough

Review 87:Very unusual and nice place! Better than traditional hotel. Friendly staff, big rooms, big bathrooms with massage bath. Good breakfast. Very quiet, very pleasure atmosphere. Good free parking. Location among nature and quite far from touristic Roses gives this place so peacefull and relaxed. They also have mini spa-center inside.

Review 88:We have a dog and they were very welcoming. The location was excellent for dog walking.

Review 89:Great big bed, cosy big room

Review 90:Location, away from the sprawl of Roses. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Review 91:It's different - not your standard Costa Brava "accommodate the masses" hotel. Spacious room, friendly staff.

Review 92:no towels on the swimming pool

Review 93:good food, friendly service, relaxed, i will go back next year

Review 94:The room is cool and humid

Review 95:This hotel is in a historic building. Breakfast is delicious. There is a large hot tub in the room

Review 96:Room and the food.Wifi did not work in the room as they promised.

Review 97:Nothing.

Review 98:The menu was very basic

Review 99:The location and the rustic feel to the hotel, the grounds and the swimming pool

Review 100:No interest in providing restaurant food (dinner) for the vegetarian members of my family. Site overgrown and neglected.

Review 101:Peace and quiet

Review 102:The room was very well appointed - we even had a spa bath - and the swimming pool was lovely. The restaurant was good too

Review 103:Room smelled damp and unpleasant. Furniture cheap and worn .setting impoverished and unkempt

Review 105:Good location for touring costa Brava. Reasonable price and good buffet breakfast.

Review 106:Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. We would stay there again.
