Reviews for La Demeure Saint-Ours

Review 1:This accommodation is full of character, the building is centuries old & situated a matter of 15 metres from the walls of the very impressive chateau at . The rooms help to create the atmosphere of the medieval era. Would return. Owner Claude very helpful with great sense of humour.

Review 2:I booked this two months in advance - twin beds for overnight stopover after a 7 hour drive. When we got there - very tired - our room had been given to someone else! We had to pay top rate for a very medium slightly out of town stop

Review 3:location looked good

Review 4:We had the misfortune to arrive on a day of an antiques fayre (Brocante d'ete) which meant that all of the centre was blocked to traffic. The consequence was that it took us some time to find the accommodation (on foot). However, having done so, the host's son came with me to retrieve the car and move it to a nearby parking area (public but free). Be warned that markets occur twice a week.

Review 5:The unique, old and quirky building, the central location, the host and his son, good price

Review 6:This is small hotel, only 3 rooms, owner is very friendly, the atmosphere is very romantic, all back to XVII century but with modern comfort. Books in room, breakfast room with authentic furniture and dishes, view to medieval street, oak chest, beams on the ceiling, and tea set and kettle in the room and the fridge, very handy. And I just love the style. But you have to pay cash, cards are not accepted.

Review 7:Nothing

Review 8:Medieval location, closeness to ancient city - you're right in it - and restaurants, shops; also easy walking around the wider city and to the countryside beyond. The homely, friendly hosts were great and very helpful; the room suitably 'ancient' in feel, but with all modern conveniences.

Review 9:Difficult to find initially - but in a way that added to the charm.

Review 10:The wonderful staircase. The friendliness if the hosts (father and son). The unusual decor of the rooms.

Review 11:Bed was rather hard, with no headboard. Clothes hanging space rather cramped.

Review 12:Great town centre location; interesting very old (medieval) property, very atmospheric. Good shower in the (attic) room.

Review 13:The history. The ancient staircase. The warmth of the welcome and the view from our bedroom. The room was very well decorated and equipped. No TV but beams and beauty.

Review 14:It was very difficult to find. Both GPS and written directions led us to take wrong way roads. Once we found the road, which is really the main road in the historical area and across from the chateau, the number 11 was very visible but the name of the B&B was tiny. Took us an hour to locate this establishment. By then, we missed a highly recommended place to eat and we were stuck with pizza. Disappointing.

Review 15:Both Claude and his son Thomas were delightful. The breakfast was very good. Breakfast made by Claude redeemed this place for us.

Review 16:Plan to park in one of the town car parks and walk up. It's easier to see your way around. We loved it - but if you have difficulty walking a winding staircase, it might not suit. As an intrepid traveler, plan to carry two small cases and you will find it fits more easily - and great fun.

Review 17:A great reception from Claude, who freely provided much knowledge of where to eat and visit in Loches and the surrounding area. Discreet but attentive service, with a plentiful continental breakfast, set us up for the day. With a delightful room, up on the second floor, it was arrived at, via a winding 14th century French oak staircase, that wound it's way up, inside and outside the building. Well appointed and firm, comfy beds. If you are into history - then this is for you. Loches has so much to see and we stayed for two nights. Crepes at Crepe Royale down on the corner - local recipes. A little further up, look into the wine shop - for a plate of sausage, cheese and wine - great selection and generous hosts. Plenty of good places to eat out. The Donjon, Royal Logis and St.Our's church a must to see. We went of to visit Montressor - very pretty and Blois. On our leaving day for Angers, we headed via Chateau Chenoneau. Safe car parking was available a short distance away. A great base to stay,if you are considering exploring from Blois-Tours, to Bourges

Review 18:Stairs difficult for seniors - sixteenth century spiral staircase, not very secure. No door on ensuite.

Review 19:Really pleasant owner who went out of his way to help us with our baggage, to fit in with our breakfast requirements and gave us lots of useful information,

Review 20:No internet connection. Difficult to find the hotel. The door in the shower room didn't close property.

Review 21:The owner of the place, Claud, was very friendly and helpful. He helped me to carry the heavy suitcase to my room in the upper floor. Located very close to the royal gate to the castle. Even thought the building was old (It was build in the 16th century), the room was very clean. The atmosphere was good too. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 22:This inn is housed in a 16th century building, with many stairs, making it interesting and historical, but perhaps hard if stairs are a problem for anyone in your party. It is also very difficult to find. Even with the local map from the TI, it took over an hour. And prepare to walk a distance with your bags from the parking area. The local market on Wednesdays is definitely worth planning your visit around. The cleanliness of the room was marginal but acceptable given the age of the building and worth overlooking considering the caring nature of the innkeeper. The lack of a clear reception area can also make visitors wonder whether they have actually arrived -- it appears to be in an art gallery of sorts. I would still recommend this inn very much despite these issues.

Review 23:The owner of this facility was exceptionally accommodating and caring about the quality and comfort of our stay. The breakfast was lovely, and the location in the heart of this medieval village, within walking distance of the fortified castle, was amazing, giving you access to view the castle grounds in the evening after others have gone. There are also two Caravaggio paintings in the local church, which was a bonus.

Review 24:The sink was very slow to empty.breakfeast was poor.

Review 25:Sink needs to be replaced

Review 26:Lovely decorated and comfortable room

Review 27:the bathroom was in need of restoration - shower was very dated grouting was black

Review 28:very quirky and unlike any other hotel. owner was charming.

Review 29:The style of both the room and the staff !

Review 30:The very helpful and informative owner and his son

Review 31:No tea-making facilities.

Review 32:Location, location, location. A really nice apartment in a lovely old building, right next to the old city walls.

Review 33:The location. The beds. The host. The overall feel and charm. The stunning staircase.

Review 34:Very difficult to find and parking difficult.

Review 35:Claud is an excellent host. The quirky, ancient accomodation ismemorable. The breakfast excellent.

Review 36:Clean room. Comfortable bed. Good location. Easy parking. Good breakfast with plenty of hot coffee, which is rare around here. Nice vibe. This is a good place to sleep, but the room was too small to spend any non-sleep time there, which was OK for us.

Review 37:The bathroom was sadly deficient. The shower was very small and had mold all around. The only "toiletries" included were a large, half-used bottle of shower gel and a small soap for the sink. There were two of us and since we shower at different times, we had enough hot water. There was only one bath-size towel and I had to use a hand towel for m shower. It is quite difficult to find this property since the entrance is on a back street, not the one listed.

Review 38:The host was very cordial and thankfully offered to carry our luggage up the very steep and narrow staircase. Breakfast was nice.

Review 39:Nothing to dislike

Review 40:Location could not be better, very friendly and helpful owner (and family), beautiful room and great breakfast. Free parking is very close

Review 41:Not to be picky, but the shower doors didn't quite fit, making a puddle.......and the stairs are very ,very old,so do not try and take too much luggage.

Review 42:Claude,the owner was very helpful and charming. We parked elsewhere in Loches, inorder to find the B&B. He came back with us,to show us where to park for free, just behind the B&B. The Building is lovely, the room was charming and the hospitality shown by Claude was exceptional. Breakfast was very old fashioned and quaint,in a lovely room with beautiful artifacts. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, despite the 2 small negatives.... Heck, the House is 500 yrs old and you will never find a better owner than Claude. Well Done Claude from Barry and Sandra.

Review 43:The shower needs attention, and only one bath towel (and that not very big) and a few small towels is not good enough.

Review 44:The friendliness of the owner, the location, the situation of the room on the 3rd floor, allowing us to see the tops of the 16th and 17th houses opposite. It felt great to be right in the heart of the town. Parking was nearby-quite easy to find, and free. Lovely big room, with tea making facilities and water provided.

Review 45:The place is charming in a very whimsical way. It oozes character and is very friendly. The crazy 16th century staircase has to be experienced. Not a place for those with any kind of mobility problem and those suffering from vertigo might also find the stairs one challenge too many!

Review 46:The bed dipped in the middle making it a bit uncomfortable

Review 47:We have stayed here before. It's a fantastic location and a bit 'alternative' in terms of the decor of the rooms and the history of the building

Review 48:Open toilette and shower to the room, some people might be fine with itof course, just a warning incase you're not :)

Review 49:Really lovely guy, very helpful. Amazing building, nice to stay insomewhere that was so historical

Review 50:Bathroom not up to standard and little hot water.

Review 51:Friendly welcome, interesting house, great restaurant nearby.
