Reviews for Les Troglos de Beaulieu
Review 1:While there's not much in Beaulieu-les-Loches itself, it's a pleasant little village and really close to Loches, where we went for dinner. Location is convenient for touring the Loire Valley. Good for travellers with their own transport.
Review 2:Celine is a delightful host and they have done a beautiful job decorating the cave as accommodation. Breakfast was awesome. Highly recommend this as an alternative to the usual accommodation options.
Review 3:We liked the unusual location, the cosy, comfortable accommodation, and the friendly, helpful owner. Beaulieu is a fascinating village, just across the River Indre from the mediaeval town of Loches.
Review 4:Celine and Steve were very warm and hospitable hosts, who were very kind and helpful. We love the history of the caves, it was very interesting. Such a great experience! Our room was comfortable and our breakfast every morning was wonderful, just what we needed to start our day. Celine's homemade jams, yogurt and cakes were delicious. Loches is a beautiful little town, located not too far from most of the Loire Valley castles. We hope to come back again some day.
Review 5:Celine and Steve were great hosts they couldnt have been more helpful and the experience of staying overnight in a cave was lovely. The breakfast was really good too
Review 6:Room took a bit of getting use to. In a cave and noisy saiflo toilet. Evidence of black mold. A problem for troglodites.
Review 7:Great cave experience andbreakfast. Lovely hoast who spoke english
Review 8:Celine and Steve are wonderful hosts. They were very warm, friendly and helpful. The home made jams and yoghurt etc was very special and the caves have been converted into interesting, comfortable bedrooms with a sitting area as well.
Review 9:We were pleased we had our sat nab with us , as would perhaps have been tricky to find otherwise.
Review 10:We had a lovely stay here. Fascinating place, with a very warm welcome . So unusual, our children (16&11) loved it too. We would love to come back again some day . Thank you.
Review 11:Loved the history of the area and enjoyed staying in such a unique B&B. The hosts were so helpful and friendly and we enjoyed all our conversations with them.
Review 12:No commode, no closet, no shelves. Water flow in the sink a trickle. Very meager breakfast served too late in the AM (8:30).
Review 13:Helpful owners. The novelty of the place.
Review 14:Our little apartment was extremely comfortable and very attractive, it had a little balcony seating are and a secluded patio. Just an amazing experience, delicious breakfast and charming helpful hosts. Must come back!
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:Staying in a well furnished, unusual wooden cabin was a great experience. Celine, the owner couldn´t do enough to help us, a really lovely, friendly and welcoming lady. We throughly enjoyed it. The breakfast in Celines fantastic cave room was super.
Review 17:None. Everything was perfect.
Review 18:The place is wonderful. We stayed at a room called Le logis du guardien, a room for 4. It is big, cozy two level room, with unique decor. The facilities are the best. The owner is so sympatic and make you feel like at home. One can see that everything there was made with love and care. It was very unique experience to stay in a cave. One of the best places I have stayed in europe.
Review 19:very nice and welcoming staff. Outstanding, comfortable and unique accomodation. We slept wonderfully in our nicely decorated room, completely sourrounded by white stone! A big recommendation for those who love unique and beautiful places. We loved it and hope to come back!
Review 20:Great for hot/good weather but in wet/cold weather can feel damp.
Review 21:Location and very welcoming owners. Quite unique and fun providing you have warm weather conditions.
Review 22:Bed mattress could be better as a thin (somewhat typical in cheaper lodgings) Euro version of a mattress. We did the cabin for $ savings & the cave may well be the better choice as cabin is clean & cutesy but a "bit on the lacking side of things". Hard not to say it's like a USA KOA cabin with a bathroom but with a French price tag. Directions need to be improved as it's close to town but not easy to locate given the many turns towards the last mile or so!
Review 23:Nice couple trying to do it right. Quiet location that badly needs better directions(gps no worky) with good continental brkfst.
Review 24:Not being able to stay longer
Review 25:The most friendly hotel we have stayed in. Mine hosts were so warm and took the time to explain everything in our language and translate between us and the other international couples. Food was excellent.
Review 26:Our hosts, they are excellent. The 'cave' experience with the lovely wood burning stove in 'our' cave and the amazing large cave dining area. The location at the centre of a wonderful area for exploring on foot/bike or by car. Variety of local restaurants.
Review 27:Supper was a bit limited compared with other places where we stayed, although Celine was kind about adapting the food to meet the needs of a diabetic. We were warned that the menu for supper would be the same every night, so on our second night we ate out - something we would have preferred not to do.
Review 28:Fantastic experience to sleep and eat in beautifully adapted/modernised caves. Each cave had a relatively private place to sit outside, which we appreciated, and ours had a sitting area inside as well. We were made very welcome, including our dog (but only within a quite restrictive arrival period, which happened to suit us). Breakfast was good. There was a pleasant area to walk the dog very nearby.
Review 29:Celine and Steve are wonderful and very helpful, they made our stay like in our home. The breakfast was excellent, we enjoyed both the food and the place very much. A unique experience for us all. Will come back next time when we are in the same county or nearby.
Review 30:Whilst travelling overseas we would have appreciated access to WiFi.
Review 31:Celine and Steve were very warm, caring and excellent hosts where nothing was too much trouble for them. We enjoyed a delicious local provincial meal prepared by Celine and served in their very unique dining room. Les Troglos was a real highlight of our stay in Loches. Thank you Celine, Steve and Chloe.
Review 32:This is the first time I write a bad review, but we think that people should be warned. We got a cave with bedroom und bathroom seperated with a 150 cm wall. So using the bathroom was a quite intimate experience. The cave is very clammy. Our bed was as clammy and uncomfortable that we thought about leaving during the night. To change the air in the cave a noisy ventilator has to run 24/7. When we told the owners about the noise they answered: "The stones need to be moist, otherwise rocks will fall onto your head. What do you prefer?"
Review 33:Loches is a nice city.
Review 34:just having to leave!
Review 35:We stayed in the private cabin which was so quaint and well-equipped. The hosts served breakfast in their home -- a real cave! We enjoyed interacting with other international guests and especially the owners who were warm, freindly and very helpful.
Review 36:The whole experience was magical, from the moment we arrived we were greeted personally and shown to our accomodation and this level of service remained throughout our stay. The personal touches by Steve and Celine made our stay very special and unique. The unusual setting is wonderful and the food (which was home grown/locally produced and homemade) was amazing and delicious. This little gem has to be seen to be believed.
Review 37:A real experience, the owners have created a guest house from a limestone mine and share their knowledge of the area and passion for the project with their guests. Breakfast in a cave lit by candles was a great experience.
Review 38:Some people with asthma may be troubled by the humidity of the cave
Review 39:Celine and Steve were very welcoming hosts. Communication prior to arriving and after leaving were first rate. Les Troglos is easy to find and Loches is a great village. Breakfast in Celine and Steves "cave" was amazing.
Review 40:The late check in means that it is a little inconvenient to gain access to the accommodation, but the village has many sights and bars etc to keep you amused.
Review 41:Unusual place, not often do you get the opportunity to sleep in a cave! Owners have done an excellent job in creating something special. A real gem of a place in very nice village, worth every penny and then some. Both Celine and Steve deserve all the plaudits they will receive for their efforts - Bravo
Review 42:Nothing.
Review 43:The structure which was particular. Interiors very nice. Room large and comfortable. Breakfast and location relaxing and quite good. Owners of the structure very collaborative and helpful. They did their best for helping us and advising about the turistic attractions in the nearby.
Review 44:First appearances are somewhat unprepossessing for the rooms are built partly within and partly projecting from the rock face and, from a distance, it looks jerry-built. But our room was spacious and, at the very least, idiosyncratic though with a steep staircase that some might find intimidating. Breakfast was served in the owners' own accommodation which was very striking, quite grandiose and wholly within the cave. There are clearly difficulties about living there - a low level of lighting and a constantly burning log-fed stove generating enough heat to keep the temperature and humidity levels tolerable. The owners were welcoming, informative and enthusiastic about what they had done to create this property from nothing and they deserve much congratulation for what they have achieved. I should also add that I was daft enough to leave behind my file with passports and other documents and the owners Celine and Steve went well beyond the call of duty in trying to locate us. It was much appreciated - and with a positive outcome!
Review 45:Early check in would be great but not a deal breaker for us.
Review 46:Host was very helpful and nice. We liked the privacy of our own patiowe could sit out at night and not be bothered with other guest.Breakfast was nice fresh yogurt & homemade jam breads which youexpect in Europe and one of the things I look forward to. Coffee wasgood not the instant kind you get in some places. It's a must for meto have good coffee in the morning. We would definitely stay here againif ever back in the area. Two girlfriend's traveling together wefelt safe in this area.
Review 47:Local town is rather quiet during the week.
Review 48:Fantastic hospitality. Beautiful accommodation. Lovely breakfast. Also treat yourself to dinner. It's great value and you won't regret it. Close to some marvellous towns and château's.
Review 49:Lovely room (la cabane) with a cosy terrace in a pittoresque place, hosted by the most friendly and helpful owners. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend Les Troglos to anyone who would like to discover this interesting area with its beautiful castles and towns. Not an ordinairy B&B but a true gem indeed.
Review 50:The owners are super lovely and really keen to make you welcome and to feel comfortable. The rooms are so unique! We loved it! Especially breakfast in the very beautiful and special dining room - superbly designed and the breakfast is fantastic! We highly recommend!!
Review 51:Excellent welcome and very considerate, friendly and attentive owners. The hotel accommodation is fascinating, thoughtfully laid out and comfortable. The evening meal we were served was delicious and breakfast more than adequate.
Review 52:Friendly staff, great breakfast, loads of character.
Review 53:Warm welcome and friendly hosts. Nice 20 min walk into centre of loches. Quiet location and easy safe parking. We stayed in the cabin.
Review 54:An unusual but delightful place to stay. The owner, Celine couldn't have been more helpful and we were sorry to leave.
Review 55:UNUSUAL SURROUNDINGS AND GREAT HOSTS

Review 68:The cave experience,something different.
Review 69:Friendliness of host/hostess.
Review 70:Limited check-in times.
Review 71:Room quality & cleanliness, delicious home made breakfast served in the cave.
Review 72:What a great experience. Shame we could only stay for one night. Will stay for longer next time.
Review 73:Everything was perfect in this unique B&B, and the hosts especially nice and helpful
Review 74:Everything. The new restaurant is lovely and a great addition. This is the 2nd time of staying. Really a great experience.

Review 78:Our own little private terrace area and Having breakfast in a cave. It was laid out lovely.

Review 80:A really unusual experience. The family were lovely so helpful and friendly. It was an absolute pleasure to have had a meal with them in their beautiful cave!
Review 81:Few too many steps inside for old folk and the open plan nature of the bathroom facilites took we modest Brits some getting used to!
Review 82:Beautiful property very comfortable, cool in hot weather.lovely breakfasts very good hosts and extremely helpful. A very enjoyable six days Robert London
Review 83:We loved all of it, except perhaps the stairs - but we are in our seventies!
Review 84:We stayed in 'The Guardian' for three nights, a unique experience. Accommodation was cosy AND spacious giving room to relax. Breakfasts are excellent (Celine's home made yogurt - yum!) and breakfast room is another wonderful cave experience. Celine and Steve are outstanding hosts - even to Steve taking time to take my phone to the technicians who managed to make it work! Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Review 85:My husband booked this and on arrival I took one look and thought I couldn't possibly stay in a cave. I couldn't have been more wrong. What a truly excellent venue with lovely host and hostess and charming daughter trying out her English.
Review 86:Quiet location, quirky accommodation being it is a limestone cave, comfortable and spacious, love the automatic fireplace that keeps the room warm. Very short drive into the town centre of Loches. Fabulous helpful owners.
Review 87:the curtain behind the glass door could be mounted closer to the door so as to cover it completely
Review 88:very nice cave-apartments, unfortunately they were booked, so we stayed in La Cabana, a wooden house standing alone with nice interior and all conveniences very kind hosts! breakfast in the price, option for home-cooked dinner
Review 89:As with everywhere we have stayed on this holiday there was notea/coffee making facility in the room, which after a long drive Iwas gagging.after speaking to the hosts they explained that they used toprovide the facilty but some guests abused it and left stains on thebedding and furniture.what a shame people can't respect things.thiswould not stop me going back,i have only commented to make people aware
Review 90:As you arrive you wonder what on earth you have done, but when celineshows you to your room it is a definite wow. The breakfast was lovelyand served in a fabulous dining room. The family have put a lot ofeffort into making it a nice place to come.please be aware that they donot serve food every night so it might be best to call first
Review 91:Our stay here was absolutely wonderful from the moment we arrived. It was such a unique experience to stay in a cave which was so comfortable and had a beautifully renovated bathroom. Our hosts Celine and Steve were so welcoming and we enjoyed a beautiful dinner in the cave restaurant and sampled delicious regional produce. They even put on cartoons to entertain the kids whilst we ate dinner. Highly highly recommend!
Review 92:A very different and exciting experience The owners are friendly and keen to make your stay a memorable one Lovely personal touches - for example breakfast served outside with fresh local produce
Review 93:Nothing - although it was a bit cold at times as the woodchip boiler didn't heat the cave very well. I don't think it would suit guests over sixties age group as the stairs can be a bit difficult to negotiate.
Review 94:Everything! Excellent conversion job on the cave. We aim to book again in the future
