Reviews for El Ancla

Review 1:Refrigerator didn't work.

Review 2:An interesting place to stay & explore especially if you are interested in anything nautical. Surprisingly comfortable.

Review 3:The hotel has a unique style, it is not a generic chain hotel, however, it has worn carpets and furniture.

Review 4:The staff was friendly, the garden was well maintained and the breakfast was good.

Review 5:Nada

Review 6:Excellent, friendly, personal service. Wonderfully quiet location, with own veranda - perfect as travelling with dog. Breakfast is excellent, just a few hundred meters from beach! BRILLIANT

Review 7:Was a bit worn around the edges - low water pressure

Review 8:Order paella for dinner upon your arrival - loved the old stately feel of the property and the garden area

Review 9:Breakfast was served as a plate - not a buffet. As a Scandinavian where we eat much in the morning - you sort of miss something. The staff could have been a bit more helpful when asked for bus schedules going to Bilbao

Review 10:Location was good - quiet The furniture etc. was quite old - however with style and atmosphere. Price

Review 11:Parking on the street a bit worrying Early morning noise from street No instructions on breakfast times etc - evening receptionist had no English at all.

Review 12:Location, location, location - a short walk from a gorgeous beach friendly welcome Spanish style decor Lovely garden in which a fantastic breakfast was served

Review 13:Five minutes walk from the sea but sitting in El Ancla garden was an unexpected oasis of tranquility. This Hotel is well run for the comfort of its guests.

Review 14:The rooms could do with a bit or sound insulation. You could hear the people talking in the next room.

Review 15:We liked this hotel. The staff were friendly and it was very central to the town without being to close.

Review 16:Location, no private or secure parking. Ambience was tired and depressing. The attitude of manager casual to being cavalier when asked about private parking.......bedrooms were of the standard of a 1950's B and B. Not what we had expected. Add to that no lift to go up three floors.

Review 17:Garden was attractive.

Review 18:Friendly cosy warm

Review 19:Totally amazing hotel with very friendly staff

Review 20:Breakfast basic and uninviting. All packaged and wrapped, nothing fresh

Review 21:No evening meal - but reaturant nearby very good.

Review 22:Staff very helpful and friendly, Ship decor was well done. Tables in garden great for summer.

Review 23:Staff very hands off. Facility needs updating.

Review 24:Location

Review 25:The food - Awfull

Review 26:Not a lot!

Review 27:everything. We have stayed there before.

Review 28:Try as we did many times we could not contact the wifi facility.

Review 29:The grand luxury ambiance.

Review 30:Wifi not so good in the room

Review 31:Excellent sevice, very nice hotel with garden, good breakfast!

Review 32:Out of season - early June! - so no local restaurants for eating at night. We opted to eat the menu of the day in the hotel restaurant. We asked for the menu, were not given one by a very surly and scruffily dressed man, and were presented with some basic starters of poor quality. We also requested that the very loud tv was switched off - he turned it down, but later turned it back up. When we complained we were told we could only have what the chef had in the kitchen at a cost of 20e each. Had we known we would have eaten elsewhere, even though a long walk.

Review 33:Initial check in and welcome. Good room Garden for sitting and breakfast.

Review 34:Staff waiting for us at 3 in the morning due to our ferry being delayed. Really helpful. Very short walk to beautiful beach. Let us park motorbike in grounds. Would like to go back.

Review 35:Initially the hotel seemed clean but upon further inspection it was 'a bit rough round the edges'. The bedding had not been ironed and there were no liners below the pillow cases. When we queried how to open the closed and locked safe there was no offer to rectify this. It was cold in the room but we were told that they could not turn on the heating as it was on a thermostat. We were offered an electric heater. The breakfast was poor and served in the salon on a tray. Although the men running the hotel were polite we were left with the impression that the hotel was being run on a shoe string because we were there out of season.

Review 36:The position of the hotel on a quiet residential street close to the beach and only a short walk to the old quarter was good. We had a large room and enjoyed the provision of bath robes.

Review 37:Lack of information on local facilities and those within the hotel. No English channel TV reception. We found the electronic safe difficult to operate (no instructions). Door to room required some force to close it from outside (? maintenance)

Review 38:Very helpful English speaking owner/receptionist. Pretty garden with tables and chairs. Quiet location with plenty of parking (on the street).

Review 39:This hotel is very charismatic and quaint. It is situated close to the beach and a good fish restaurant. Breakfast was prepared early for us as we were pilgrims and wanted to start walking early.

Review 40:Nothing to complain about.

Review 41:We arrived early and our room was not ready but not to keep up waiting we were given one of the "outside" rooms which was nice but did not updating by way of decoration. The Hotel accommodated us by allowing us the use of their garden to set and read as our Ferry did not depart from Santander until late in the evening which was most accommodating for us as we are motorcyclists and trying to pass the time away in high temperatures is not easy.

Review 42:I stayed at this hotel as a 19 year old (now 65) little has changed. everything is in need of a facelift. Staff are not always around to assist

Review 43:The location for me is perfect after sailing into Santander. The perfect overnight location.

Review 44:Looks a little sad, - could do with a little sprucing up. Bed a little soft for our liking.

Review 45:Friendliness of staff. Having breakfast in the garden. Location - good for beach and car ferry

Review 46:Very old fashioned, had the feeling we were back in the 60´s or 70´s... Simple breakfast served on a tray, you are not able to choose yourself... however, we asked for some more bread (not so keen on all these sweet pastry in the morning) and that was no problem.

Review 47:Friendly staff, were helpful with reservations for activities etc. Carried my suitcase up the stairs without me asking. Clean rooms.

Review 48:Only 45 minutes from Santander made this a good choice. The staff were very helpful and let me park my motorbike inside the grounds. A very clean and friendly hotel. i would stay there again without hesitation.

Review 49:Breakfast was served on small tables in the lounge, instead of having the space one would have had in the dining room.

Review 50:The nautical decor of the hotel was good.

Review 51:There was no heating and hot water when we arrived. After a fewcomplaints they fixed both, which took a few hours. Water pressure wasvery bad all the time. Very poor breakfast. Dirty rooms and we had mouldin both rooms, which was terrible!

Review 52:Friendly staff and a good location, easy free parking

Review 53:We booked half board, not impressed,no choice when booked thro your site better to book B&B and select from al acarte.

Review 54:Beautiful furniture,good location.

Review 55:We liked eveerything, the reception was warm, everyone was pleasant and very helpful. We accidently left our passports etc in the safe, the reception kept everything safe until we could return to pick it up.

Review 56:So sad we had to leave fantastic place.

Review 57:No meals available on Sunday after long drive from South.

Review 58:Pet friendly. Proximity to Ferry ports.

Review 59:Location. 20 mins from Santander. Dog facilities ideal. Restaurant very good.

Review 67:Location, cleanliness, helpful staff

Review 68:Easy to park, pretty garden, lovely breakfast and close to all amenities . Interesting town.

Review 69:Helpful staff, great location and close to nearby restaurants.

Review 70:Dark interior

Review 71:Olde worldly charm

Review 72:Good Value and convenient

Review 73:Friendly staff. Pleasant service

Review 74:Poor quality of Wi-Fi , TV and bath room

Review 75:Old fashioned decoration & frinedlyness of staff

Review 76:Outside room has nice private sitting out area. Bed comfortable and breakfast very good. Helpful staff. Lounge and bar area very comfortable.

Review 77:Patio room was convenient for the dogs. Pleased all round. Would definitely return. P
