Reviews for El Capistrano
Review 1:The stairs up to Cappuchinos, but the view made up for it.
Review 2:EVERYTHING, Lovely community feeling. Excelent base for exploring the area, however you will need a car.
Review 3:We arrived to discover out accommadation would not be ready for 4hrs. The day was one of heavy rain fall and the person on duty wasn,t empathetic at all.
Review 4:A remote for the air con - kept alternating between hot and cold when cold was needed as it was pretty hot throughout the days.
Review 5:Fantastic size apartment, has everything needed. Looked like it wasn't used in a while, tad dusty/musty, but opening a window fixed everything - comfortable and cozy/home like. Close to the restaurants and swimming pools but not too far either! ( 5 min walk )
Review 6:The reception is open from 10am,so check out it's difficult if you want to do it in the morning.we weren't told what to do in this case and were nearly late on our flight.
Review 7:There was everything in the apartment what we needed
Review 8:Could not unlock garden gate in the early hours of morning due to badly maintained gate barrel lock - had to climb over wall - maintenance fitted new different type of lock next day but again no lubricant which caused the first lock problem. Fridge excessive noise fan fouling cowling - corrected by customer. Shower would not stay in position due to loose nut / worn ball joint - customer could have done but maintenance tightened nut next day. Breakfast at restaurant worst ever had. Poor closed in second bedroom with no external windows - our adult children did not like it. No simple card type instructions to help with appliances on arrival. Could not get English TV due to owners settings. No notification of Gardeners work - woke to find branches falling on to patio & water jets stopping exit - could have been an accident.
Review 9:Apartment design / layout / size & garden mostly good Location in Jazmin excellent for everything. Good maintenance service to solve apartment problems. Cave Bar good. Pool excellent. Reception excellent.
Review 10:I didn't understand why we had to have a pool pass and pay a deposit for it. Likewise, €3 per day for a sun lounger is a bit much. The staff were accommodating but sometimes, not very friendly.
Review 11:Location was perfect. Nice and peaceful but just a short taxi ride away from the centre of Nerja so you could choose quiet or bustling - depending on your mood. The place itself is beautiful, really rustic with beautiful flowers and herbs and clean and spacious accommodation.
Review 12:The master bed was quite uncomfortable
Review 13:I loved the style of the complex, whitewash villas with winding streets. Great pools, bar, restaurant and helpful staff
Review 14:The wifi password did not work. a change of sheets would have been an improvement.
Review 15:The house and the village location were beautiful. the pool was lovely. The bar/restaurant was very reasonable. The food was very good and the 2 proprietors were charming.
Review 16:Villa very out of date. No air con in 30 degree heat was a nightmare. Leather sofa you stick to. Limited snacks served in pool bar. Restaurant next door served mediocre food.
Review 17:Very pretty area lots of lovely flowers well maintained. Lovely pool area.
Review 18:No Air Conditioning, as with all Spanish resorts, soft bed and tubular pillows
Review 19:Nice area, good sized pool, clean, plenty of parking space, good sized apartment and great value for money
Review 20:The apartment had a great view air conditioning which was good the only minus points are it could do with a bit of tlc curtains did not fit properly knobs on drawers kept falling off lampshades hanging off shower head tied up with string the door to the balcony does not lock but being high up was not really a worry just cosmetic things that would cost a few pounds to put right but the balcony door not locking would be a worry if a small child was staying there, not really acceptable for security reasons. It was stated on the invoice that there would be two single beds in fact it was 1 double which was not a problem as we are a couple but if it had been 2 friends it could have been awkward, but despite a few little faults we would not hesitate to stay here again as if these were sorted a good apartment could be a great apartment.
Review 21:Lovely location have been to Capistrano before it is a beautiful place and we had a stunning view of the sea.
Review 22:The location it is a must to have a car. Lack of air conditioning No phone to ring the reception in apartment No wifi only at reception
Review 23:The view from the balcony
Review 24:Villa was basic. Asked for accommodation for 6 people and one person had to sleep on the sofa with a sheet. No other linen supplied and not enough towels either. Villa was far more expensive than 2 bed apartment but that would have been better accommodation. Was very hilly and we were almost at the top of the complex!
Review 25:Beautiful location, great pools and some friendly staff. Not too far from main shopping centre and beaches. Lovely and clean and tidy.
Review 26:Discovered upon arrival that our apartment was a 10 minute car journey from the reception. Discovered upon entering that there was no air con. The twin room (we'd booked a double) was inhospitable so we slept on the sofa bed so we could at least be in a room with a suggestion of a through-draught. The two dusty fans supplied proved too much for the electricity meaning regular trips to the fuse box, which may explain why the only WIFI was provided round the pool. I was only able to use this once, however, as the teeming tatooed oiks and foul-mouthed children maxed out the limited access. Be prepared to confine yourselves to hiking or hitch-hiking. The only serviceable means of getting into town are by taxi at a round cost of ~€15 which we found a number for online (using my roaming, obvs.). There is a bus that slumped by, albeit packed to the gills, every hour or so. The locals refer to the novelty, road-going train as 'The Wally Trolley'. Perhaps you're best taking that if you're dim enough ever to return to San Juan de Capistrano.
Review 27:The quiet, mountain location was well-appointed. The balcony views from such an altitude were stunning; you could see for miles. The framed painting depicting a winter scene was more than adequate substitute for air con in the 34° heat. Brisk, hour-long walks into Nerja were a great way to burn off the calories tallied up by the previous night's traditional Indian baltis, American burgers and Italian pizzas dished up at the Spanish pool bar.
Review 28:It was 40degs heat and no air con. Hard to sleep. The patio door had a jagged whole in it and there was glass found all around the balcony. Door could have easily shattered. We advised staff and we're assured it would be replaced by next working day. It was never replaced and fairly dangerous for young kids to be around. Shower rail fell off the wall numerous times took two complaints to staff to organise maintenance to sort out.
Review 29:Loved the on site restaurant and staff. Pools fantastic and well looked after. The apartment was amazing...like a home away from home. Even had our own garden.
Review 30:You had to pay for sun beds and buy a pool pass for 30euro for the week it was too far away from main center staff not very helpful
Review 31:It had a large swimming pool area
Review 32:Before reading: it is clearly written on the booking page so this does not count as a complain. The wifi should be more 'decentered'. You can use it freely close to the office but nowhere apart from there. And a couple or three spots around the buildings could be useful. Even with wifi bridges.
Review 33:The place is completely surrounded by typical folkloristic houses and the view is really nice. Even though there is no air conditioner the swimming pools help a lot refreshen yourselves. Cool apt. Really good especially if you want to cook by yourselves and live a vacation 'like-at-home' type.
Review 34:Unfortunately for us everything was to far away. Swimming pool was a five minute walk away and town centre was a good 30 minutes walk away.
Review 35:appartment was well equipped with washing machine and full cooker.
Review 36:Access to swimming pool is possible after paying deposit 30 euro. Unfortunately not very nice and helpful Staff
Review 37:comfortable houses with nice balcony and good equipment (quite old style but it's still nice). House is located in nice area. The nearest beach is in the walking distance (around 20 min).
Review 38:Late check in was a nightmare and felt at one stage would have to sleep rough. No WiFi in the apartment was a disappointment.
Review 39:Apartment was good value for money. Pool and restaurant were good and Supermarket well stocked.
Review 40:Ok walking into town in morning or evening, but too hot in the middleof the day and too hilly to walk back up to. We had to get 2 taxis asthere were 5 of us so cost 14€ every time. Would have been good to havehired a car.
Review 41:The apartment was split level with a gorgeous private garden and lovelybig balcony to have breakfast on.
Review 42:The accomofation was of poor quality , curtains frayed and ants in the kitchen .. Stayed here last year and thought booking a bigger apartment would make life more comfortable but this wasn't the case unfortunately . Absolutely no view Watsoever from the balcony , unless you like looking at a wall :-(
Review 43:The staff and pool areas were very nice.
Review 44:Bathroom ceiling collapsed on first night, inadequate response by staff. No offer of compensation or acknowledgement of inconvenience caused. Water temperature was far too hot, danger of scalding. TV in 17c was very old and almost useless, needs changing. It would be nice if a few more essential items were provided, eg washing up liquid.
Review 45:Peaceful and private in very nice grounds with good access to the pool.
Review 46:too short holidays
Review 47:Great location, the balcony with the sea view, sunshine :), swimming pool, close to shops, beach and the town, hills and mountains on a stone throw.
Review 48:Accommodation basic enough. Only 2 english speaking tv stations. No wifi.. no aircon..only 1 set of keys to property..back garden small and not well kept.. bbq poor.. no clothes line..ants a problem in kitchen and living room
Review 49:Grounds well maintained.. very quiet village.. 15 mins walk to town... friendly staff
Review 50:The apartment I was given was a great size however it was very tired and needed a bit of work done. There was a dreadful smell in the apartment that was coming from the drains. This made it impossible to stay in during the day and made me feel quite unwell.
Review 51:El Capistrano village is amazing, the gardens are beautiful, the area is quiet and safe and the views are wonderful. The facilities are great, pools are clean and well kept, there is a small supermarket that has everything you need and it’s a short walk into town or down to the beach.
Review 52:The sun blind was not working and we found the balcony very hot in the sun. We reported the fault.
Review 53:Pretty convenient holiday village with a nice atmosphere and excellent food shops nearby.
Review 54:Beds were very uncomfortable, no electricity in apt when we arrived at 10pm, no hot water , so had to request electrician to fix this problem. Not many facilites in the area. Would not stay here again, must be fit to stay here due to steep hills.
Review 55:very generous size 2 bed apt. Great size garden
Review 56:not easy to find, but staff were helpful
Review 57:well cared for gardens, spacious layout, everything we needed ,very comfortable beds and furniture. Pleasant 20 min walk to the beach.
Review 58:Just landed back from Nerja yesturday This was mine and my partners second stay but this time with the family. The villa was so big and fit 6 people very comfortably, there was 2 adults, 2 teenagers and two young children. It had everything you need for a self catering holiday. From a washing machine to a microwave, BBQ you name it we had it. The staff at reception was very nice and helpful at check in. The cave bar is amazing good food and very friendly staff. There is no wifi only in the main reception area. But there is a wifi shop in the town call ️Nerja wifi where we hired a device for our villa which was 25€ for a week. The supermarket across the road has what you need without having to walk far. There is a shop on site but it closes at 2pm. You also have super sol just down the road. the beach and town isn't very far to walk and is beautiful to walk down on a sunny day. They do have a bus service but we didn't use it as we had a hire car. But we didn't use the car to walk to town as it was so close. There are some great things to do near by we did the Rio chillar walk which was amazing. A day trip to almunecar and we took a long drive to selwo marina which the kids loved. Overall we love this place have been here two years is a row and we will be back
Review 59:If the check in time starts at 4pm, the office should open at 4pm prompt, not 4.12pm. If I had travelled a long way and had young children, it would have been very annoying. The pool is advertised as year-round, but it was shut for the winter - the description is misleading and should be changed. The bed had bed-bugs. As I've discovered elsewhere, it sometimes takes a few nights for them to appear and bite, but they did. I hope my apartment was the exception and that something is done quickly to remove them. I had a car, so the journey up the hill to the apartment wasn't a problem, but without a car, it would be very limiting.
Review 60:Well equipped Good value for money Sea view from balcony, albeit quite far away Friendly staff
Review 61:We arrived after a particularly cold spell, and it was obvious the heating couldn't cope. We spent most of our time (3 nights) walking around in our coats. We used all the spare blankets on the beds and were still cold. We found the twin beds uncomfortable, and in the other bedroom, the double mattress made you roll into the centre. The lighting in the living room was so poor it was impossible to read in the evenings. We spent as little time as possible in the villa because it was not a comfortable place to be. When we had the room heaters switched on and then tried to heat the bathroom, the electricity for the whole villa turned off. Perhaps it wasn't a good idea for us to stay here in the winter.
Review 62:We have stayed in these villas before, many years ago, and were pleased to find the environment is just as pleasant as it was. The gardens are very well maintained, the external appearance of the properties is good, and the atmosphere relaxing. The villa itself, described as a larger 2 bed roomed villa, was exactly that. The decor was traditional, and there were balconies with different views, as well as a garden. It could be lovely later in the year.
Review 63:No wifi in the apartment, wifi is only available at the reception office, about 1 km away from us.
Review 64:Excellent view, the apartment is large enough, all ficililites are available except wifi
Review 65:- Not a downside as such, but I definitely recommend renting a car as the complex is fairly high up and there are a lot of steep hills between it and the beach and town. - Just a warning that the sun loungers by the pool are €3 each per day and the umbrellas are an extra €1.
Review 66:+The pools were lovely and big, the best in the area. +The complex is beautiful and has some spectacular views + The staff were extremely helpful. On check in we were given a map with routes marked to our apartment, the town and the beach, and we were also offered to be shown to our apartment personally. + All the staff spoke very good English.
Review 67:The offhand manner of the Nicosol staff. Old Bath/ shower.
Review 68:El Capistrano is very pretty and beautifully maintained. The various designs of the villas and apartments all in the Andalucian style. I loved the wonderful colours and scents of the various plants. The swimming pools are great. The Cave Bar serves very good quality bar food and prices are excellent. The views from the village both out to sea and across the mountains. Our balcony patio was fabulous. Wi fi access. Bus service. The weather. Two large supermarkets nearby.
Review 69:Security gate at upstairs window onto terrace was locked and key not provided. Dining chairs were unusable as they were so uncomfortable. Used armchairs and coffee table for all meals. Quite a climb up from reception and even greater climb up from town. Wifi only in reception area. Beds not very comfortable.
Review 70:We were fortunate to get a 2 bedroom 2 storey house with garden but no view. However the garden with patio gave plenty room for sunbathing & dining al fresco [We had booked a 1 room apartment which might have been more convenient if it were a ground floor apartment but obviously not if it were a second storey apartment] Nicely maintained if a little dated.
Review 71:The uncaring attitude of staff when we were invaded by decorators with no warning and no apology. We woke up to find all the windows and doors to balcony papered over and then asked to leave the apartment for the day - before we had even had breakfast.
Review 72:Attractive resort with lovely pool. The accommodation was clean and well kept. Good bus service into town. Easy walk to beach.
Review 73:By Booking.com I got the perfect apartementos for 6 days. I just wrote want I wished for - and there it was . A big apartemetnos, lovely baalcony and quite. Gooing back in November 2014.
Review 74:It's a lot of hills around so unless your into climbing them and they need better pillows to sleep on but apart from that
Review 75:I love the the place as a hole surroundings were lovely very clean
Review 76:Lovely, white building that don't make you feel like you are in a big resort. It's very pretty area, well looked after. We've got upgraded from apartment to villa. It was very quiet in September. The kitchen had everything we needed. There two big supermarkets close by
Review 77:3 euros a day for a sun lounger by the pool reception failed to book ourtaxi to the airport as requested and were closed when we were waitingfor it (Sunday 8am) so we had to call for another . our bed was the mostuncomfortable I have ever slept in and creaked loudly on the smallestmovement . No aircon but there were fans which was fine as it wasn'ttoo hot while we were there
Review 78:Resort facilities and location are great, generally very good valuefor money we would definitely return despite the negatives as theywere minor on balance .The villa was perfect it even had a barbecueon the balcony which we made good use of . Lovely pools withlifeguard on duty .
Review 79:I would agree with one of the reviews that there is a very large numberof British ex-pats and not a great deal of Spaniards making it feel alittle less Spanish except of course the for sun shine!!
Review 80:Really nice clean Villa. There were 3 of us staying all adults and therewas plenty of room for us all. We were staying at the top of the complexand had amazing views a two/three minute walk to a very spacious andwell maintained pool area which has restaurants and bars. You wouldhowever need a car to get to the town or beach but as we had a hired carthis was not a problem. We did get a taxi a few times in the evening andthe cost was always €7 which we found reasonable and very efficient .Thebig tv had a large no of English speaking channels. We would definitelygo and stay there again.
Review 81:15 min walk up very steep hills from reception to the apartment. No air conditioning (but electric fans were helpfully supplied).
Review 82:Very nice apartment with fabulous views.
Review 83:The house was extremely musty and felt like it hadnt been aired for a long time. Though the house was clean, the curtains and furniture smelled as though they hadnt been cleaned for a very long time. The towels were supposed to be changed after 3 days but werent. I didnt say anything though so it was partly my own fault. The sprinklers came on between 12.30 and 1am every night and were very noisy. Aside from these negative points, I would definitely go back to El Capistrano and would highly recommend it to others. Other guests there at the same time as us had been there several times before and were booking future visits too.
Review 84:The location was great, just a 15-minute walk to either the beach or Nerja town. We were lucky to be the only guests at our villa site so we had our own private pool and garden which were beautiful and very secure. The grounds of El Capistrano village are beautiful and the views stunning.
Review 85:No aircondition and no external window in the bedroom, hence extremely warm at night. Not recommended in mid summer!
Review 86:Nice green area, nice pool area. Helpful staff.
Review 87:Apartment decor a bit dated. A few problems on arrival, but dealt with quickly by staff.
Review 88:Beautiful grounds and flowers. Nice pool. Good value restaurant and bars with friendly staff.
Review 89:I guess the decor is very dated- however we never spent much time in the apartment itself!
Review 90:Loved the lush gardens and convenience to the pool. We enjoyed getting away from the business of Nerja town. We will definitely return.
Review 91:There are 2 parts to this complex and we were in the Oasis complex apartment at least a 10 min walk to reception all up hill. No free wifi in communal areas only outside reception!!!Restaurant on oasis site closed in July !! This location is at least a 35 min walk into Nerja town centre not 14 as stated. Nearest beach is 20 min walk away, ok going but a very steep hill to climb coming back. Loads of rules to abide by in pool no fun for children or teenagers as noballs, inflateables, jumping ,diving, snorkels etc allowed in pool. also 2 euros per sunbed per day.
Review 92:The apartments are set in a lovely location are well looked after inside and out. Its also very quiet. Definetly need a car to enjoy this holiday.
Review 93:Had to pay for sunbeds & umbrella + details before we booked said 1.5km-that was to checking in office but was 3.75km from apartment to beach & fine going down but a nightmare going back so a car would be recommended.Bus is ok but does not go anywhere near Burriana beach.
Review 94:The pool, supermarket(bit pricey-supermarket by checking in office much cheaper),restaurants, bars just over the road from the apartment & stunning views.Bus stop to Nerja outside apartment & only 1euro each way. Apartment fully equipped with everything you would need but maybe a bit dated.
Review 95:There was no warning that the resort was so big and had so many hills. This should be detailed in the description of el capistrano
Review 96:The gardens and flowers around the apartments and the cleanliness of the resort. The staff in the pool bar were great!
Review 97:Coming home :(
Review 98:The location is perfect between the beach and town cantre, the people and staff were very nice, the villa was very clean and comfortable, great view from the balcony, got alot more than expected for the low value of money we payed, will see you again :)
Review 99:Reception only had limited opening hours so you have to wait until 4pm to check in
Review 100:Great value for money Fabulous View Shuttle bus every hour into town Until 8.14pm Fantastic swimming pool facilities -need a pool pass but you get the deposit back Restaurants and cafés on the site so you don't have to go into town every day Taxi back up only 7 euros if you don't have a car... It's a personal choice if you want to hire a car.
Review 101:No WiFi ? I big concern this day and age.
