Reviews for Inter Hotel George Sand

Review 1:stayed on a Sunday night and there were very few restaurants open in Loches. Would have been pleasant to dine at the hotel, which has a good reputation

Review 2:riverside location. free parking adjacent

Review 3:We weren't allowed to sit by the windows near the water at breakfast which was the main reason I had booked this hotel. It's in a beautiful location on the river. Breakfast food was ordinary so we only ate there once. It was booked out the first night and closed on the second night during our two nights there.

Review 4:lovely views from the windows in our rooms . Gorgeous historic building close to everything. old stone stairs, very nice.

Review 5:Very dirty bathroom, tatty bedroom with scuff marks all up walls, Heard every noise from kitchen until 11pm. No facilities such as a bar or sitting room and staff could not be more unfriendly if they had tried. All in all not a nice place. Neds Alex Pollitzi to visit!!

Review 6:the bed was OK and the linen was clean. It was quiet once the restaurant closed

Review 7:We had a budget room and the lighting in it was very poor. The reception closed very early but they did arrange to be there for our arrival at 8pm. There was no communal lounge area.

Review 8:Lovely setting in the middle of a most beautiful town. Ancient building.

Review 9:Couldn't check in when we arrived at about 4.00pm. Place all locked up until 5.00pm !

Review 10:Had a very large room with big windows opening onto a view of the river and public gardens.

Review 11:A pleasant change from formula hotels. I particularly enjoyed the hotel ambience e.g. the stone spiral staircase and twisted rope bannister (although this would clearly not suit those with mobility issues)! Definitely quirky but none the worse for that. The hosts attend to a restaurant next door to the hotel in the evening and intending guests may find that the hotel appears to be unoccupied! If this is so please go next door. I had to leave early the next morning and therefore did not sample breakfast. Loches is a wonderful place to visit and the bedrooms at the back of the hotel have a pleasant river aspect.

Review 12:Only a sky light for a window so no view of the park behind.

Review 13:Quirky hotel lots of french charm in a great location in loches may return at another time used as a stop off when travelling to the Dordogne.

Review 14:Mould in the bathroom. Shower too short to stand under. Needs new pillows as the one supplied was very flat. Breakfast was very basic for the price of 10 euros 50 cents each and didn't get the opportunity to ask for more coffee.

Review 15:Wonderful location and charming and quaint hotel. Staff very patient with our poor french.

Review 16:The first receptionist was not at all helpful for a slow French speaker. The restaurant was closed. There was noise in the street at night.

Review 17:Location was close to town central. The cost was low. Parking was free.

Review 18:Safety consideration was nil, staircase dangerous the stone stairs first offered by a rather casual receptionist was even more difficult with luggage. This could be a lovely Hotel but sadly is badly in need of refurbishment. A bit of a disappointment.

Review 19:Central position for the Hotel, easy access to the old historic parts of the town. A lovely outlook from the window.

Review 20:We thought the breakfast was included, but no!. The bedroom was pretty small and a biSmall, reasoanable hotel with reat location of views.t muggy so we kept the windows open.,

Review 21:Location; covenience and setting on the canal at the water chute, opposite the beautiful park garden. Looked good, great view. Parking nearby; fairly helpful staff, OK breakfast.

Review 22:Our room at the front of the hotel was intolerably noisy. Traffic noise reverberated between the walls of the street. Bedroom walls were very thin so could hear everything from next room. Reception abandoned most of the day and all of the night.

Review 23:The view from the dining room.

Review 24:The hotel needs refurbishing, taps don't work well, water leaks out of the bath, etc. It is also disorganised. The staff, for instance, could not give us a reservation for dinner, as they had to ask the cook on arrival whether the restaurant would be open or not that evening.

Review 25:The location, the view over the river & the food in the restaurant was superb.

Review 26:The shower tap is dangerous because if you lean on it the temperature changes instantly from normal to burning or freezing. The bedroom roof had a protrusion you could barely see.

Review 27:A spectacular spot.

Review 28:Room was a hole with two cheap beds thrown in , bathroom was that bad we didn't use the bath or the shower head , cabinets in the bathroom were broken poor wi first , restaurant closed

Review 29:Charming olde worlde hotel in a delightful old French town. Great staff and food. Rooms a bit basic, but clean and in good working order. The wifi works. A delightful place to stay for a few nights on the way up through France.

Review 30:The shower head had no fixed high position.

Review 31:We arrived quite late, but were reassured that it would not be a problem. On arrival we were moved to a nicer room than the one we had booked with a great river view. The hotel had plenty of staff and everybody was friendly. Our room was very spacious and very clean. The bed linen was very nice. The breakfast buffet was very good too.

Review 32:The beds were too soft and bedding too heavy, So our sleep was less good than it could have been. Service in the restaurant could have been more friendly.

Review 33:The location which was very close to the royal sites. The quirky, characterful building. Dinner was good and not too heavy. Excellent breakfast.

Review 34:The evening meal, not least the wine, seemed exceptionally expensive. Food, while perfectly acceptable, didn't seem to justify its cost. I would readily go to the hotel again, but would consider having my evening meal out.

Review 35:Convenient parking, very central for exploring Loches, beautifully positioned and with a historic feel. Breakfast excellent and room comfortable.

Review 36:Very narrow stone spiral stairs (34 steps) leading to 2nd floor, bit of a pain after a large meal and drinks in town. River view from room, but had to stand on a chair and peer out of velux roof window to see it. Only 1 very dim light worked in bedroom, so a torch was useful. Hotel could do with some updating.

Review 37:Location, backs onto river and lovely public gardens and is a short walk into the town.

Review 38:Breakfast was a very basic buffet. No food available when we arrived at 9pm with children.

Review 39:Quirky typical small town french hotel with lots of character, clean and well kept with friendly staff. May not be for the 5 star chain traveler ( no pool, no gym) but good quality beds, local restaurants and lots of charm make it a place I will return to when the Loire and recommend to others .

Review 40:Poor staff. No staff about Reception closed 3pm -5pm Poor lights Main door locked and no light to help with key Wifi not available in room Hotel needs updating.

Review 41:Location

Review 42:Friday night is noisy in the town and I was kept awake until 4am by boy racers driving very noisily and fast through the town right past the hotel.

Review 43:Loved the hotel, staff, food and cleanliness. The host (who spoke very good English) was always smiling and ensuring everything and everyone was looked after. She is the hotel's greatest asset. Will definitely stay again, but with a rear facing room.

Review 44:Receptionist ignored us while on a long phone call on our arrival. And then not very helpful or welcoming. Dinner not available although advertised as serving. Few rooms in occasion so no staff on site overnight

Review 45:Easy to find. Goodish location.

Review 46:not admitted to the hotel until 5pm - not an acceptable welcome after a drive of over 400 miles stone cold water - had to ring reception to resolve the problem

Review 47:the location is excellent the building is an interesting one

Review 48:Didn't have time to eat in the restaurant but that's our fault :)

Review 49:Nice big room, I asked for a bottle opener and got one instantly.

Review 50:The room was clean but very dated and tired. A few euros invested in the decor would be a good idea

Review 51:location for a two day break en rout from Lot E Garrone to england

Review 52:food not cooked very well breakfast poor

Review 53:location ok

Review 54:opened too late wifi slow no shed for cycles

Review 55:We love the Town and have always stayed in Loches en route to our friends in the Dordogne.

Review 56:The additional cost of Breakfast was not made clear when making the booking.

Review 57:Helpful staff. Good restaurant. Individual style.

Review 58:location

Review 59:excellent dining area next to the river. Very pleasant small French hotel. Free nearby parking. Goood value for money

Review 60:As above

Review 61:Old period building, beautiful but difficult to modernise probably due to conservation constraints, great location .

Review 62:Bathroom lacking Sink plug / shower fixing broken/ no shower curtain

Review 63:Location/ Breakfast/ Friendly Staff

Review 64:I had barely any light on the room and the bed was not confortable at all, really soft.

Review 65:location and restaurant with a beautiful view

Review 66:period french feel

Review 67:We arrived on a Friday and the restaurant was closed.

Review 68:We arrived early, before check-in time, and were allowed straight into our room.

Review 69:kitchen doors kept slamming while the restaurant was in operation.

Review 70:The food.

Review 71:Friendliness of staff

Review 72:Spiral staircase No fridge or kettle Unable to communicate ie language

Review 73:Warm rooms View from room

Review 74:The spiral stone stairs are very dangeroud for young children and for those having to carry luggage

Review 75:Smell all over the hotel of old roast dinners. Bathroom needs total makeover. Very tired decor throughout hotel

Review 76:Location, clean crisp bed linen Public parking next to Hotel no charge.

Review 77:The fact that in spite of booking through Bookings.com the owner said they had let the rooms we had booked. We had just driven 600 miles in a classic car - that would not go any further that day. We were exhausted. But that did not seem to trouble them. The word "sorry" would have at least been in order. But just shrug of shoulders. Never ever stay at this place. It does not deserve your business. Sleep in a field the way this place forced us to do!

Review 78:Nothing - awful place

Review 79:Room very small, lighting very poor. Wooden beam proud of carpet making it dangerous when getting out of bed. Mould in bathroom. Stone spiral stairs to room dangerous. Difficult to carry up luggage. Taking into account all of these problems we checked out immediately.

Review 80:The location in the centre of a picturesque town

Review 81:No dinner available in the evening - the dining room seemed to be closed at this time in the season.

Review 82:A very satisfactory stay. A room with an excellent view.

Review 83:The rooms are being refreshed but rather hurriedly so the paint on our door wasn't quite dry!

Review 84:The restaurant food excellent though an evening set menu would have been appreciated. very pleasant and helpful welcome.

Review 85:No reception until 5pm, door locked. Had to call for assistance, no mention of breakfast or dinner times, just given key. Room dusty and poorly lit. Eventually found that restaurant was closed, saturday night! Got back to hotel at 9.40pm, door locked and although we had key no lights were on and had to fumble around in the dark. Had meal in a logis and seriously considered decamping as they had 1 room spare. would have had much better service and facilities from a good chambre d'hote. Overpriced even after a discount. Such a shame they dont make more of the hotel and actually realise that they cater for guests and not the other way round!!

Review 86:The location is stunning, that is the best thing I can say about this hotel!

Review 87:Not a place to visit with a disabled person due to narrow staircase.Menu not so easy if veggie

Review 88:Comfortable hotel with excellent menu.Easy parking and location forvisiting loches

Review 89:Unfortunately we were in a room overlooking the main road opposite apartments which were noisy late into the night. Which was hot so windows had to be open. We did not rate the meal at the hotel rather more form than content.

Review 90:It is situated on the river overlooking park. Breakfasts were excellent catering for every taste. The town is really interesting and we will go back again to explore both it and the surrounding countryside. It also has many fine restaurants at reasonable prices. Like the people at the hotel all were approachable and helpful.

Review 91:Everything. The main member of staff (female) was extremely rude and offensive. We did not expect to be shouted at on our arrival and was refused a beer with a short sharp Non! Our friend who speaks very good french was ignored by said female when asked for milk for the coffee at breakfast on 3 attempts. The required milk was eventually slammed down on the table in jugs half full from used and deserted tables. The stairwell to the upper floors(stone spiral with rope handrail) was a major health hazard and downright dangerous. No shower curtain which turned the bathroom into a wetroom. On leaving we noticed a star had been removed from the ratings. Our advice would be to get a new member of staff on the front desk before this "hotel" is made into a hostel. We will never return or recommend this establishment. This is our first ever review as we are generally easy going and have been using booking.com for years.

Review 92:On our last stay 2 years ago it was basic but the staff were friendly and we could at least buy a beer after a long journey on the road.

Review 93:No elevator, many stairs. Carpet gives an old look to room. Free wi-fi, but it's difficult to find signal and almost impossible to log in. The connection falls all the time, and you have to try to log in again.

Review 94:Very good location a few meters from the centre. Some rooms overlook the canal, which is nice. Triple room was spacious.

Review 95:The room was on the second floor up a stone winding staircase. The room was small and the decor tired

Review 96:A great location close to the centre of Loches and licated beside a river. Reception staff very helpful giving us a garage to park our motorcycle.

Review 97:We liked everything except one member of staff who made our visit very unpleasant. Don't have her name, seemed to be maitre d', but I expect she will be pretty nasty to other guests. The simplest thing was a problem for her - checking in on arrival, booking a table for dinner that evening. Very unfriendly. Dinner, when we eventually were allowed a table by the chef, was good, but whole experience left a bad taste. We had stayed at this hotel a few years earlier and had enjoyed our stay. But definitely won't be back to the Georg Sand and wouldn't recommend it.

Review 98:See minus comment.

Review 99:The stairs with heavy bags!

Review 100:Excellent location for preparing a school visit to the region. Very good breakfast with a great deal of choice. Staff very helpful.

Review 101:It is an old building and thus suffers wafer thin walls, esp in attic rooms, which are shared with the water supply system. Sound insulation should be a priority installation. Or, specify a room with a waterside view!

Review 102:Dinner was nicely served in the restaurant, overlooking the water (great setting). The food was imaginatively presented and tasty.

Review 103:No alternative to circular stairs with support offered by a ropebannister only made access difficult for us as older customers. We weredirected to l'escalier' on arrival and offered no help with thebags on a very difficult climb to the second floor. Not disabledfriendly. No alternative emergency evacuation route than the circularstairs. In the room very poor storage facility for clothes andbelongings: no drawers, only one shelf. Poorly maintained shower andhairdryer, dirty toiletries drawer. Noisy workmen hammering and bangingin the early evening a few rooms away, and strong smell of new paint attimes. Restaurant closed on arrival? No dinner available on evening ofarrival- after travelling all day (hotel advertises itself as arestaurant) and no recommendations or directions as an alternativeconsidering we were strangers to the town. Covered terrace, stronglypromoted as a hotel amenity, was unavailable for breakfasts and reservedfor restaurant paying guests only.Lastly: we booked on the internet where the George Sand is advertised showing 4 1/2 stars on one location and 2 stars on the Inter website, yet in the inter hotel brochure it has no star rating becase it does not reach international standards for stars. This is misleading and persuades people to purchase falsley on the internet. The services given did not merit any star ratings in our view- albeit superficial supply of TV and inter net are upgraded facilities which may be valued by some.

Review 104:The whole place seemed a little worn. Definitely in need of an up date and a bit of style/decor being added to the rooms. Ours was very very basic and dated. We didn't eat there so I can't give an opinion on the restaurant There were no tea/coffee facilities in the room which I find odd these days.

Review 105:Good position on the river which I'm sure we would have appreciated if it has been warm weather (the temperature was around freezing when we were there). The rooms were clean and beautifully warm.

Review 106:Being 74 years old and placed in a box on the second floor up a stone winding stair was not much fun.

Review 107:I like the area and location, we did stay here about 30 years ago.

Review 108:The bedroom was small, made more difficult by the sloping roof. Thehotel seemed to be fully booked and so the only room available to changeto was an even smaller room the size of a double bed I was informed! Weare not elderly but crouching each time you went that side of the roomto the window or bed just was not good. This type of room should behighlighted when the original booking was made. Breakfast were veryminimal considering you had to pay extra. We ate in the hotel restaurantthe first night as reviews were quite good. However the meal may havebeen ok, but by the time you had to wait one and a quarter hours for theentree good thoughts faded.Staffing is the big problem here, not the twogirls fault, but we were not impressed. And of course the bill was notadjusted in any way.

Review 109:The view from our bedroom window, the view from the restaurant andeasy parking.

Review 110:Was a little smelly - drains I think! We had requested river views but got street view. Couldn't have the bedroom windows open as street too noisy

Review 111:Central location. Quirky Outdoor area for food and wine overlooking the river. Colourful outdoor plants which attracted hummingbirds Lovely waitress who knew far more English than we knew French

Review 112:Great character, lovely restaurant with great view of the river, and situated right in the middle of town beneath the castle and close to shopping area.

Review 113:Breakfast on the weekend was very poor, we came down around 9.20 (breakfast finished at 10 am), there was very little left to eat, no croissants and nothing was replenished. Sunday was also poor. However on Monday the breakfast was excellent.

Review 114:The location and the view from our room

Review 115:I think for very elderly people the stone turret stair cases would perhaps be difficult, but there is always somebody to take your cases to your room.

Review 116:It is a friendly hotel with nice comfortable rooms, it is directly on the river at the back and overlooking the most amazing municpial gardens. We had a non smoking room and overlooked both of these. The most amazing was the evening dinner it was fantastic and our special requirements were to house a bike which was not a problem. We really enjoyed our stay.

Review 117:Breakfast was disappointing after the excellent dinner. The rooms were interesting and in need of some updating. Stairs were steep for infirm although not an issue for us

Review 118:Dinner was excellent in the restaurant overlooking the river Location excellent

Review 119:The dinning room was excellent and suitated overlooking the river as described in the literature. Our bedroomn was obviously suitated over the kitchen but was quiet once the kitchen had finished clearing up

Review 120:Under staffed ,reception unmanned at 4 pm........ We had to unlock thedoor for other guests!

Review 121:Beautiful location in interesting ancient town. Nice choice of dishes onmenu, well cooked and beautifully presented food.

Review 122:Overall decor was a little tired. No staff on early Sunday morning forearly check-out to get to ferry port.

Review 123:Ease of booking, helpful receptionist and good restaurant. Reasonableprice. Fine for an overnight stay en route between South of France andchannel ports.

Review 124:Room and bathroom unclean. Poor facilities, poor value for money breakfast and poor service for breakfast. TV in room was not working. Cleaning staff came into room without knocking on the door, while we were still in the room (at any hour of the morning)

Review 125:We were given a twin room on arrival which was changed on our request toa double. This was small ans we were charged less for it. We realisedlater that as it was very hot we would have to keep the window openovernight and the traffic noise was unbearable throughout the entirenight. Both rooms offered to us were at the front of the hotel. I wouldstrongly recommend requesting a room elsewhere in the hotel. Thebreakfast was very expensive for what we got - it was only as wefinished that a bowl of fresh fruit was brought out.

Review 126:The location was good and there was free public parking close to thehotel. Although the shower room was small, the shower was quitepowerful. The young woman on reception was helpful and pleasant.

Review 127:Attic room very small, hotel was closed when we arrived and we had tophone to open up. Never saw the same member of staff twice, very narrowsteep staircase, unsuitable for people with mobility problems. No offerof dinner or information even though there was a restaurant. Located onbusy main road.

Review 128:Nice location by river and park, cheap rooms.

Review 129:The position of the hotel was excellent and had an attractive restaurantalthough it was closed the day we were there(Sunday). Breakfast wassubstantial.

Review 130:The winding stone stairs up to bedrooms.

Review 131:Great location. Food was excellent and the staff very friendly.

The Fine Print

Please note that the reception is closed every day from 15:00 to 17:00.Please note that the restaurant is closed on Friday and Sunday all day and all year.
