Reviews for Best Western Le Grand Hôtel Le Touquet-Paris-Plage
Review 1:Some staff very pleasant but unfortunately others were at best indifferent and at worst rude. We stayed on New Years Eve and whilst there was a party going on till the early hours we were unable to get a drink after midnight as we were not at the function. It would have been nice for guests who chose not to attend the function to be able to have a drink in the bar on this special evening. Especially as we had the noise from the function till the early hours. The staff member we asked was quite rude and just said "no". On check out we had to wait for 25 minutes whilst the one member of staff on the desk dealt with another customer's complaints.
Review 2:staff very pleasant on check in and our room was ready early.
Review 3:The last 3/4 times the jacuzzi in the spa hasnt been working and as the pool is having a refurbishment in January 2016 it would be great to have this fixed too.
Review 4:Everything, location and the staff are superb, nothing seems to be any trouble for them. We always look forward to returning here, we have stayed at The Bristol and Westminster - both twice BUT have stayed at The Best Western Grand ( formerly The Mercure Grand ) many times ? And all just 15 mins walk to town centre
Review 5:We were told the restaurant was fully booked Saturday night but there wasn't a soul in the dining room. Why not just say it's closed? It was a disappointment as it was a filthy night to go out.
Review 6:The hotel and its staff were very welcoming, kind and polite. Our rooms were quiet clean and, like the rest of the hotel, quirky in design and style making for an original ambiance.
Review 7:The lighting in the bedrooms was very dim. That's OK if you just want to chill and sleep, but it was almost impossible to do my make-up at either the dressing table or in the bathroom. They also appeared to be saving electricity outside, as the driveway was very dark if you wanted to walk into town at night, as we did
Review 8:The hotel had been refurbished since our last visit, and - although quirky - the décor was nice, and certainly a change from the normal, bland corporate look of some hotels. The bathroom was lovely - a really nice powerful overhead shower.
Review 9:Drain in the shower blocked and flooded the bathroom. Reception promised to "send a technician, but after returning to the room in the afternoon of the next day, found that nothing had been done, Then changed to upgraded room, (moved ourselves), although even here, the door lock did not function properly, and housekeeping had failed to renew towels or tea/coffee supplies. Restaurant only offered a limited evening menu choice, and 4 out of 6 people dining together sent their main course back as being served cold.
Review 10:A beautiful hotel in a quiet and scenic area of Le Touquet, yet only a short walk from the town centre.
Review 11:Downstairs breakfast restaurant looked shabby , the back of the hotel which our room looked out into wasn't particularly nice
Review 12:The room , the bed, the front of house of the hotel, and the approach to the hotel is attractive, and the staff were all very pleasant.
Review 13:They had a lovely Bar, but noone at it we waited 10 mins, there was a conference and they arrived so we left, later on we came back bar tender did not even say hello.
Review 14:Good location large hotel.
Review 15:The darkness of the bedrooms. Weird decor . Bedroom furniture seemed to made of painted pallets . Their was no carpet in the room which made it colder and noisier The young man on reception was useless, gave us the wrong key on one occasion and stated that he couldn't find the key on another causing us to strip the car down and search all our belongings. After being let into our room by another receptionist Marie who was very helpful, they found our key in a disorganised box . A total wasted hour and effort in wet conditions with no apology!
Review 16:Not enough parking on-site, though we did manage to find a space. The overflow parking across the road was shunned by many who preferred to obstruct the driveway with their overpriced bourgemobiles instead. A 20-minute walk to the centre, even using the short-cut round the back, past the breakfast room. Luckily it wasn't raining. I'm not sure any breakfast is worth 17 euros. The fruit salad was mostly apple as usual, and the bacon and sausages were lukewarm-to-cold due to insufficient warming. The lifts were quirky and seemed reluctant to arrive.
Review 17:We like a spot of luxury on the last night of our French trips, and this place provided it. The hotel's restaurant had limited choice, but we found a good restaurant in town - plenty to choose from in Le Touquet.
Review 18:Breakfast is not really very good value for money
Review 19:Hotel always the same quality and easy to walk into town. Also hire out cycles which are a good way to have a look around
Review 20:Lack of proper restaurant with good a la carte menu. Decor was weird and very dated. Our toilet cistern had to be repaired every day, it really needed a professional to repair it rather than a member of staff
Review 21:Swimming pool was good and staff were helpful.
Review 22:The breakfast was not good, the staff were running about like headless chicken as there was no co-ordination. The food quality was very poor. We ate on the buffet Resturant one night, again we thought the food was poor and the staff were unco-ordinated and brought us the wrong drink even after we explained on the first time we were brought the wrong drink. The last night we tried to eat in the Loreli Resturant. We booked a table at 20.00 arrived at 20.10 as we were in the bar having a drink. We left the Resturant at 22.00without having out main course. It took 2 hours to get served with our starter. The Resturant that evening had a total of 11 people up until we left. The hotel even had the cheek to charge us for our starter after waiting 2 hours
Review 23:The reception staff and the room was good. The pool was also good. The Hotel location suited us. We liked the Resturant Loreli the first time we are there.
Review 24:No food on the bar is available during the afternoon (after 3), the overall room cleaning isn't that great. The bar seems to be under staff and organised, the cocktail list and drink choice is very poor.
Review 25:Only 20 minutes walk from the town center very handy, the reception staff are very helpful and lovely. The swimming pool is very good .
Review 26:A little way out of town, but a pleasant walk if the weather is fine.
Review 27:A somwhat quirky place decor wise, but very clean and comfortable, with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff.
Review 28:The air condition wouldn't produce cold air, we had to open the window.
Review 29:The room was excellent, the bathroom spacious, the indoor pool was great and make sure you get the breakfast.
Review 30:Drinks prices in bar. €26 for a beer and hlass of wine. No wonder bar was empty. Stayed at Westminster 6 months sho, drinks half price of The Grands. Didnt have another drink there which was a shame. Lower the prices!!
Review 31:Room and staff, hotel generally excellent
Review 32:Please read other side
Review 33:We ate dinner in the Bar and my wife ordered Coranation Chicken Club sandwich which had no Chicken in it ,which was sent back I Ordered Steak (pink) which came up Blue I sent it back it than came back so tuff that iI was unable to cut it with my knife So on that result I would not eat here again
Review 34:The hotel is a walk from town about 20 mins but it is a pleasant and safe one.
Review 35:Lovely hotel, fun art work, nice pool, great restaurant which was the same or cheaper than in the town centre.
Review 36:I think it would be better if there was something on the menus that catered to children. We did not take meals at the hotel because of this.
Review 37:Staff very helpful and swimming pool
Review 38:We really did not like to use the cardboard cups! We expected to have proper cups! Also someone had been smoking in the room We could smell it as soon as we entered and there was cigarette ash on the juliette balcony On both counts not a standard that we expected!
Review 39:Absolutely beautiful hotel. Will be coming back. Beautful area and views. Staff are so polite and helpful.
Review 40:Everything. Extremely pleasant stay. Lovely staff and hotel.
Review 41:Attempted to eat in brasserie, downstairs, we were seated but no-one offered us drinks or told us what we were supposed to do eg self serve etc, so we left and ate in the gourmet restaurant upstairs, which was fine except the veal escalope I requested Medium was overdone and tough. Didnt eat there again. A few minor repairs needed
Review 42:Great hotel, quirky art, fantastic pool, nice bar. Loved it - would go back
Review 43:We were in room 409. There was an annoying electrical buzzing noise every few minutes which kept us awake unless we wore ear-plugs.
Review 44:Room was very nice and bed very comfy.
Review 45:It's not far but the weather was very hot so our walk to and from the centre was a challenge with a young baby.
Review 46:Nice bay view and the rooms are better than the Westminster
Review 47:Staff dont seem to keen to make this hotel what it should be.....
Review 48:LOcation and atmosphere along with facilities make this an interesting hotel but it lcks alot in service and cleanliness.
Review 49:Breakfasts were a bit expensive, but you could eat as much as you wanted!
Review 50:Loved the hotel, a mixture of quirky boutique with a Parisian traditional thrown in! Modern design features in the breakfast room , swimming pool and sauna were a great 'extra' after a day on the golf course! Although a 15 min walk into town, this was actually rather good to walk off a good meal! I will certainly be booking this hotel again .
Review 51:Our room was next to the lift so was pretty noisy. Would be fab if they could put a jacuzzi in the pool area!
Review 52:The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The pool and sauna are lovely and relaxing. The location is just 2 mins drive from the centre and the actual location of the property is lovely for a walk with your dog.
Review 53:No bad experiences at all - a bit of a shame the jacuzzi wasn't working, but not a problem - a wonderful stay!
Review 54:Even though ours was a 'compact' room it was spacious and comfortable. Swimming pool superb, decor wonderful. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 55:But we are pretty unhappy as we had a room next the elevator and kept hearing all night long the lift going up and down, which is not up to the standard of a 4 stars hotel. When we said it was a nightmare, after paying the bill we were told 'oh next time let us know you don't want to be next to the elevator'. We wonder who would want to be paying 190 euros a night to be next to an elevator all night long.
Review 56:The hotel is stunning with great facilities, amazing location, friendly staff.
Review 57:Just returned from weekend in le Touquet. First time have stayed in Grand and will definitely will not be the last. Loved everything about this hotel.
Review 58:Tea/coffee making facilities in room were not sufficient - no spoon or stirrer for hot drink, limited selection of drinks and concentrated milk not a nice accompaniment for tea. Only one small cup in room designed as a triple. The bathroom lighting was not sufficient to assist shaving or putting on makeup. For breakfast, tables laid up after dining already commenced and long delay in replenishing selection of food.
Review 59:Decoration was very nice, staff very helpful. Complimentary water in room was thoughtful and appreciated. Accessibility for member of group with mobility issues was excellent. Artwork is eclectic and interesting. Really pleased there is a pool and sauna.
Review 60:The room smelled terrible and I only complained on the second day of my visit after if spoken to the chbermaid who was quite aware of a problem on the whole floor. What o don't understand is why we were given a room at £170 a night that smelled revolting when the staff knew of this problem?
Review 61:Nice location and basically interesting building.
Review 62:Slightly too far away from centre Menu in hotel restaurant quite dull, encouraging a visit to the centre
Review 63:Amazing art collection worth a stay in its own right Friendly staff Near interesting coastal trails
Review 64:Yappy dog in room next door, but didn't complain Only French wine on the wine list and also quite pricey (some were shocking!) would prefer New World Wines
Review 65:Very comfy rooms Free wifi Spa (although full of kids when we visited)
Review 66:Swimming pool is cold. Shower design means you have your own private swimming pool on the floor :-) Not enough choice for vegetarians / vegans. No lids for the teapots!
Review 67:The art is fantastic!
Review 68:Drinking coffee out of paper cups in our room! (And we had a premier room!) No cups and saucers? The hotel needs TLC and maintenance - loose bathroom fittings, missing tiles to name but a few. A non English speaking Receptionist made checking out interesting!
Review 69:A very comfortable and large bed. A nice sized swimming pool with good, clean facilities. It's a very pleasant 10 minute tree lined walk into town.
Review 70:breakfast was only average - scrambled egg was not topped up quick enough and not enough choice of hot food.
Review 71:Unusual décor. Room described as "cosy" was really spacious. Large swimming pool.
Review 72:We didn't know there was free wifi! Robes in room were way too small even for an average person! Bit dark in hallway, difficult to see keyhole. 'City view' wasn't up to much.
Review 73:Location, fridge in room, big bed, tea/coffee making facilities in room.goodchoice of TV channels in different languages.
Review 74:was advertised as having a swimming pool and restaurant. neither was available when we stayed. No signing in hotel and very few staff so was not clear where both of the above were,
Review 75:room was excellent
Review 76:Stained tiles in bath/shower. One light not working and one light switch hanging off wall fixing. Pool, sauna and changing rooms need renovation.
Review 77:Plenty of parking space, comfy bed, warm hotel. Quirky art in lobby. Easy walk into town.
Review 78:Cost of a rubbish continental breakfast €17 each is a total rip off, €8 a pint of beer and €12 a sandwich is Paris prices but what you expect in Le Touquet i guess, but it still isnt Paris.
Review 79:Style of hotel, clean, trendy, locaction was ok 15min walk to centre.
Review 80:Very small things, no wardrobe to hang clothes in and no gowns in the room
Review 81:Good location, we were able to walk into town which had a huge number of restaurants. Hotel was good with nice staff and great food.
Review 82:We had drinks in bar the main barman was unhelpful Wasn't told main restaurant was closed we had travelled from England for birthday only offered snack bar type meal downstairs decided we would rather have bar meal told we would have to have it in room ,left there and went to restaurant down road which was lovely which was suggested by the receptionist we had travelled for birthday celebrations not to be subjected to 2. Star treatment Not the nicest of hotels for ambience plus people had dogs in there not hygienic
Review 83:Very helpful receptionist Paid for upgraded room that was ok wouldn't have wanted basic room
Review 84:the swimming pool is nice, but the changing rooms / area with the shower and sauna is a huge disappointment. Not what you'd expect in a 4 star hotel. hotel bar very expensive hotel feels like it has a bit of an identity crisis - very grand, old style lobby area, bar/restaurant full of weird, modern/postmodern art, room very standard hotel room style, but then very dated bathroom interior. was just a bit weird, felt very disconnected
Review 85:staff were very nice and friendly
Review 86:dark decorations in room and inadequate lighting. Car park muddy in places. After dark lighting from car park to hotel was inadequate.
Review 87:bathroom, kettle for tea making, cleanliness
Review 88:No concierge or porterage to help with luggage, one staff on reception at anytime, had to queue for information, staff generally unhelpful Will be reluctant to book Hotel in future
Review 89:17 euros was a rip off for an average breakfast. My wife's massage was cancelled on the day with no reason and no alternative suggestions for the day. Having paid through booking.com, we were charged again for the room at checkout (we did get it sorted)
Review 90:Nice décor and spacious room
Review 91:There was a rather large stain on the carpet in my room, which could have easily been covered up by a small rug. Also I would have preferred a proper cup to make my tea or coffee in rather than the cardboard one.
Review 92:The objects of art all around the hotel and the outlook.
Review 93:Bedroom decor a bit too darkand bed a bit firm. Some noise from above in night but none from outside in hall or grounds. A bit out from centre and sea but not too much of a problem for us but might be for others.
Review 94:Interesting style and furnishing which made a pleasant change. Spa pool super and lounges and bedroom very clean. Pleasant staff. Lighting a bit depressing in hallways. Very nice shower en suite. Bikes looked a good idea
Review 95:The first room we stayed in the window was taped up and wouldn't shut properly so was blowing open constantly in the wind. In the first room the shower was in the rafters and therefore too low for both my wife and I. Room was very cold on entry as ac on too high. Changed to another room which has a strange smell but the shower was better so we decided to take it. Turned out the ac didn't work in this one, shower water was changing hot/cold during shower. In the morning we realised the kettle didn't work and had to ask for another. The window in this room also broke. Dated decor in room Bath moldy We also chose this hotel for the pool and sauna but sadly the sauna was out of order during our stay. We are fast walkers and this hotel is a good trek (25mins+) into town. Very disappointed as other places nearer to town were cheaper and looked clean and smart enough to top this place. We complained about the first room but didn't complain about the second as this was our first stop on a multistop wedding anniversary trip and didn't want to put a bad feeling on the rest of the trip.
Review 96:While the pool set up is really good, the cleanliness of the changing/shower room facility needs improvement.
Review 97:Staff are helpful, professional and pleasent. The room was what we expected with a very comfortable bed and the pool facilities are good. Access to bike rentals is a nice addition. The location provides the best of both worlds, close enough to town but away from the hustle and bustle.
Review 98:Dreadful smell of drains in our room on arrival which we complained about straight away. Although they sent someone that evening to try and get rid of it the smell was worse in the morning. Again they sent someone who cleaned the shower but to no avail so we insisted on another room which we got. No apology from hotel staff. Having read some recent reviews it seems others have had similar experiences with the smell of drains. Hotel has obviously been refurbished recently but basin surrounds (made of what looks to be painted mdf) are already chipping. In the city view room our teenage children had there wasn't anywhere to hang clothes up and drawers didn't have any handles and were hard to open. The brasserie in the basement which is also the breakfast room has no view and lacks atmosphere. The restaurant on the ground floor has a limited menu and as far as we could see, few customers. We went into town to eat. Bar area looked great with interesting seating areas but again lacked customers and hence ambience. Outside needs some work...chipped floor tiles outside entrance, paintwork needs attention and dead geraniums in all the planters at the front of the property. Wouldn't return.
Review 99:View from bay view room Easy parking
Review 100:Set menu evening meal, Great choice of shellfish, saucisson and salad buffet stater, plus choice of main and again help yourself desert. Hotel room good size and comfortable and clean. Breakfast choice good too.
Review 101:The location was not so good. Breakfast was poor. Hotel and room generally are old and needs a upgrade. Not value for money.
Review 102:Room size was fair. Room service was good.
Review 103:Great location, nice room, lovely pool
Review 104:Room, pool and main restaurant
Review 105:Milk curdled in the coffee when made in the room
Review 106:Nothing was too much trouble.
Review 107:Christmas decorations could havr been up in the hotel to match the rest of the towns wonderful atmosphere
Review 108:just what we needed and good wifi
Review 109:No mini bar Sauna in need of a full refurbishement (roof falling apart)
Review 110:Large swimming pool
Review 111:not enough cups for tea/coffee making facility.
Review 112:Friendly staff and parking on site.
Review 113:loved the overall feel of the hotel. Plenty of space, airy, interesting art & sculptures, feeling of opulence...
Review 114:No wardrobe or hanging space. Insufficient room lighting
Review 115:Funky room
Review 116:The breakfast was far to expensive at 17 euros each
Review 117:Lovely room great hotel helpful saff
Review 118:The interior is too dark and dismal.........desperately needs brighter lighting throughout the hotel
Review 119:staff very pleasant
Review 120:Nirhing
Review 121:Everything about the hotel, we were treated well, and found the experience a great one.
Review 122:Excellent staff. Very friendly. Enjoyed our stay thank you.
Review 123:Not so impressed with the breakfast . No decaf coffee available.
Review 124:The decor is amazing
Review 125:Air conditioning not very efficient.
Review 126:Although we arrived early we received a warm welcome from staff on reception. Easy to park
Review 127:Friendly helpful staff and facilities. As a wet Sunday was happy in the sauna and pool
Review 128:Was expensive compared to other hotels on our trip Room quite smelly Noise from nearby nightclub
Review 129:Pet friendly
Review 130:good food. nice walk into centre. art displays on ground floor very interesting.
Review 131:The room was nice and spacey. Restaurant is a little pricey however the food was excellent.
Review 132:Window did not stay open, so hot and stuffy. Socket came off wall exposing wires. Room Door was difficult to lock.
Review 133:Location
Review 134:Staff really friendly and welcoming , pool facilities really good.
